for all developpers - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys,
you surely mentioned that there's a software named htc sync which you can use to sync outlook directly - without having to sync with google over the internet - with your phone.
but this software supports only the htc magic and htc hero - not the g1 (dream)
i think the software is very handy and surely a lot of people are interested in having the opportunity to use it on their g1.
my question:
can you modify the software a bit so that it can be used with the g1? or write an app which identifys the phone as a htc hero or htc magic whenit is connected with the pc over usb?
thanks

HTC sync comes with the rogers roms. You may want to try a rom based on rogers since most likely HTC sync relies on the HTC framework. It may be possible to port it though, not sure on that part

mhhh i use the cyanogenmods and i'm pretty satisfied with them - damn fast!
any other suggestions?

no ideas? really?

MSN on rogers branded HTC Dream

Hey all, I just got my HTC dream on june 2nd and am switching from a sidekick lx. Note that I'm in Canada. Love this phone, but one deal breaker is the lack of an msn client. I tried some of the client available on the market, but connectivity sucked. I read somewhere on this forum that after the 1.5 (cupcake) update that an msn client was added. Our canadian htc dream came with a different version of 1.5 and does not have the msn client. My questions are this:
1. Is there anyway to get .apk for this application that you lucky americans got with the 1.5 update? If so can someone direct me to it?
2. Is the connectivity better than hi msn and meebo? Both of those suck if I'm not wifi connected.
your wrong. cupcake is the first version with no defult clients other than Gtalk. The old ones has an app called IM and it had MSN. At least the 1.1 does.
Thanks for the clarification. Is there anyway to get a good msn client on the g1 without root?
The US (T-Mobile) Cupcake build has the IM app with AIM/MSN/Yahoo. It has been ported to various other cupcake builds as well, most based on JF 1.51 (cyanogen's seems most popular right now).
I have yet to see it working on a rogers or HTC build.
The built in IM app also uses SMS instead of data, which many people dislike. Connectivity is also questionable, and from my experience, similar to any other app since android automatically shuts off background apps when memory is needed.
From my understanding, you will probably need root to get the IM app. Unless you can adb remount and push on an unrooted build which I don't think is possible.
Thanks for the info. The text message usage is very undesireable. Geez... who thought that would be a good idea?? I suppose i'll just hope and pray that hi msn or some other market download gets better. Thanks so much for the clarification, i thought i was missing out.

HTC Sync Upgrade for HTC Hero Available

I have just seen news that the HTC Sync Upgrade for HTC Hero is available, I didnt know that the original was out there!! The link for the UK is as follows:
http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=631&news_id=222
My question is, most of the Hero ROM's for the G1 now have HTC Sync removed from the builds, does anyone know how I could get it back?
Is it a separate APK or is it part of the Rosie.apk... If anyone could help I would be grateful, would like to try it out at the very least, although GMail sync is the best...
Thanks!

[Q] HTC Hub on Samsung Focus!!!???

Guys do any of you know if it's possible to have the HTC Hub on other branded smartphones like on the Samsung Focus?
I'm sure it will be possible at some point, but it won't be like install a .CAB file. XDA is going to have to crack WP7 to allow sideloading of apps.
I guess it's also possible that HTC added some code to their sense hub so that it will only run on HTC devices. Highly unlikely, but possible.
There's a video out there showing side loading. Took like 10 minutes for one app.
So, yea, it's possible.
can you post a link to the video?
It can be done by reg edit your device to be hd7 we done this on hd2 and it is working

HTCSense.com ONLY for android??

I have an HTC HD7 and am very proud of it. But what do I do as I want to register my HD7 on the HTCSense.com...But I just realized its only for HTC Desire and Desire Z...WHY???
Isn't HD7 an HTC phone??
ANy help??
HTC Sense is a theme that was made only for WM 6.5 and Android. WP7 uses the same exact UI regardless of the phone you use. The closest you get to Sense is the HTC Hub which has the classic flip clock that you can look at.

WP7 has the remote locking, find on the map, ring your phone via windows live....
HTCSense.com has HTC Sense in its name, hasn't it? So that means, that HTCSense.com is only for HTC Phones with Sense (more precisely: those HTC phones with the new Sense-Version, atm: DHD and DZ, not even the original Desire has this function). And the WP7-phones from HTC don't have Sense on them, so they don't have any access to HTCSense.com. But, like some other people in this thread already said, you can get the exact same functions via Windows Live.
Hi HtcSence, com is only for Android Devices as Microsoft has implemented the same through its live serives
In both cases ( HTC Sense.com and Windows live)
You get Remote locking of your phone
Remote Ringing even when phone is silent
and Location of your phone
Cached Maps so Zero loading time
I think Htc has actually copied it from Microsoft
If you log in to your live account you will have all the options there
Click on the Windows Live Logo (top left of your page)
and click devices
Good Luck

I never tried transferring from a windows phone, but I believe HTC Transfer Tool moves bookmarks, calendar, text messages, contacts, music, photos/videos and settings from your old device. I used it with an old android and it worked seamlessly but it should work just fine with a windows phone. If all else fails, I suggest syncing all your important info with your google account.
yeah the HTC tool works great on an Android device but I dont think they have a windows market place app out.
Its really for txt messages, think I will have to move windows contacts by hand which is like hard work!! lol

If not then you should back up the data using Zune, and then use HTC Sync manager to restore all that data. I think there are much easier way to do this maybe saving all the data using a HTC account rather than manually copying the whole thing!
