Cellular south htc touch diamond - Touch Diamond CDMA

I have a htc touch diamond from cellular south and i was wondering what type of custom roms would work on my device also i know for a fact the phone has gps but all things i try to use it on google maps etc just non stop search for the satelites. also i was wondering what type of free gps app i could use. thank you.

according to this wiki, they are on CDMA, so you are in the right place, but you might want to double check with a CellSth rep. So, any CDMA roms might work on your phone, but these are do-it-at-your-own-risk.
As far as GPS? I use and love Google Maps. I'm pretty sure others can say the same, but I have no idea what else is out there (besides the awful Sprint Navigation program) let alone what else is better than google maps.
hope that helps.

i have two cellular south diamonds both unlocked and running Energy Rom from the ppcgeeks site. It is an immense improvement over the stock rom. Make sure to read up and follow the unlock instructions before trying to upgrade.
To turn on your gps go to settings-phone-location services and enable it. Wait about 2 minutes and soft reset. It will take 2-5 minutes to lock the first time and lock in about 30 seconds after that.
With the Energy ROM it locks in about 7 seconds.
Enjoy!
Jack

Quick gps
Dont forget to use quick gps...allows you to locate sattelites in a split second

Enabling GPS in Telus Diamond (CDMA)

Hey guys,
I've been trying to get Googlemaps GPS to work on my shiny new Diamond, but Telus seems to have locked GPS to only work through Telus Navigator.
Googlemaps just searches for satellites forever, even outside.
Anyone know if there's a way around this?
Thanks,
-Michael

Surely not, I can't believe an operator would do something so crass (even if they could do it at all).
Try getting a fix in your Navigator program, and when it has done so, and while it's still running, hit the home key (as in hard home key) and run up google maps. You will still have your navigator app running in the background, still holding its fix, so hit Use GPS in google maps and you should get a fix instantly. If you still don't, get back to us, as a setting or two will have gone awry.
Yeah, but then I have to pay for Navigator, which kinda defeats the purpose =)
Sorry, the way I understood your first post, I thought you had Navigator, and so far you could only get your GPS to worked with it.
You need to make sure your GPS settings are in order... there are loads of tips around this forum on how to best set it up for a number of different scenarios, and I'm not going to add to them again, but if you search around, you will find the settings you need and I'm sure you'll be up and running in no time.
Hello and welcome to the world of telus diamond.
I have a Diamond from Telus, and I've gotten the GPS to work without even considering thinking about paying for Navigator. I use a little application called Efficasoft GPS utilities, and it can usually get me a fix in under 2 minutes. Then if i need to use google maps, I just open it up, and WHAM-O - instant location.
for the record - GPS is NOT DISABLED by default in Telus Diamonds. It just doesn't work very well.
That sucks a lot.
Stupid Telus.
Well hopefully we'll get some great chefs working on the radio, ROM etc, and the GPS won't be so bad in the future. But as of yet, the Multitudes of ROMs out there aren't for our CDMA Diamonds. As far as I know, we're all stuck with the default ROM for now.
I have a Telus Diamond working just fine with Google Maps & Google Navigator!
Didn't even have to change any settings...
Leave the GPS set to "Using system GPS setting".
Go outside and give it a minute to locate.
It doesn't work too well indoors
That's really strange.
I've decided that Telus is retarded. I can't even download Navigator to my phone ("navigator coming soon...") leading me to believe that maybe Telus just doesn't want to supply Ottawa with GPS at all. Even running the HTC GPS Tool I can't detect any satellites.
Lame.
try GPStest. its floating around here somewhere.

Don't use Telus Navigator. It sux huge and you can get better software for free.
Well, it seems to be working now.
On a whim, I tried running the HTC GPS Tool again and it found a bunch of satellites, and now Googlemaps GPS works beautifully.
No idea what happened.
my google maps works great now too!
woot!

GPS icon/menu not visible, fix with ROM?

Hi all,
First off i'm a newb.
Second... I just got my phone though my GPS doesnt work (got tomtom). I then realized there is no GPS icon/menu to tamper with to change settings (all this talk about comm 4 and stuff like that).
Im going to "Hard SPL" the device, then "Flash" it with the Dutty 6.1 ROM.
I've checked all over this site, but i've not found a simple solution to my problem.
Is this a fix? (sorry for having no idea what im doing)
Thanks for reading.
navigate to start>programs and you'll find an icon called QuickGPS. Click on this icon and download GPS data, this is needed to get a faster fix with TOMTOM.
Next, navigate to start>settings>system>external GPS choose com 4, in the hardware tab choose GPS hardware port 7, and baud rate 9600, in the access tab, tick the manage gps box automatically.
Start tomtom and configure it accordingly...
still no luck
Thank you for your advice though still doesnt work. I have GPS test, ad when i run it it just stays on "GPS starting up" and on teh botting some numbers appear and dissapear.... and a tiny red line above it...
Do radios have anything to do with the GPS? If so could you recommend one?
thanks again.
yes radios can worsen or make the gps fix faster. and it all depends on where you like and what rom u install. I am currently using radio niki KAIS_Radinly_1.65.24.36_ CustomRUU with ROM 3.29.DK.10 and i get a gps fix under a min. I am in Rhode Island usa. East Coast.
Go here to read some more on it

First thing, DO NOT mess with External GPS settings. It is well known to hose the GPS.
Download QuickGPS (google for it) and let it run for a few minutes outside. Maybe as long as 5 minutes, but it should never take that long (although it's widely reported to take a long time for the GPS in the Tilt to warm up).
If QuickGPS still does not get a lock on satelites, then TomTom won't. But it sounds like you're probably not waiting long enough, particularly the whole "there's no GPS icon" thing in TomTom.... I suppose it's possible you've gotten a version of TomTom which doesn't work with the Tilt.
There's no need to install other ROMs or Radios to use your GPS.

Thinking about upgrading to a tilt, but questions

Im sure this will be easy for you guys. I have a 8125 now with live search on it. My question is if I upgrade to the tilt, is there a way I can use the gps without being charged? I would really appreciate the help. Thanks in advance
a gps don't use the phone it get signals from satellites
so it don't cost anything
but of cause if you use gmaps for navigation it will cost
but if you use tomtom or garmin program and maps you
don't even need a sim card in the phone
The Wizard is cool, but the Tilt...
Hi there,
I use Google Maps...if you pay your provider for internet access (like PDA Connect or MediaNet Unlimited...search on those if you don't know the truth!) then it won't cost you anything more.
There is a clause in the Google Maps program that says not to use it while moving, and I'm still unclear myself as to the exact reasons why, so at least be aware when you are doing something you're 'not supposed to' do...but it works just fine, is EASY to use, has broad general search capabilities, incorporates their Satellite View and practically real-time Traffic info.
If you do NOT pay for internet access (although I strongly suggest taking advantage of the 3G on the Tilt) you can use a 3rd party app like TomTom, Garmin and many others.
I also have DeLorme's Street Atlas 2007, but it does not support the GPS built into the Tilt, I have an external BT GPS for that.
The latest version of Street Atlas has...I believe...addressed that issue and should work fine.
And there are a TON of other GPS programs out there that have many subtle differences to suit whatever your needs are...search the Kaiser > Software Forum and you'll find people who love and hate almost every one of them available. Installing most of them on the SD is more efficient, but some are small enough to put in without one.
The Tilt also has Quick GPS that, when updated regularly, speeds up the satellite acquisition time for the GPS effectively...I usually get a lock within 10-15 seconds, but it does take longer on occasion. Quick GPS downloads info from the Net, so you would need access to utilize that function.
I too had a Wizard before the Tilt...and I liked it alot...but the 3G, the GPS, the 3MP Camera...and THIS FORUM!...have taken me to a point where I LOVE my Tilt, and...although I can 'upgrade' now to a Fuze...I don't think I can get a better phone without going outside my Provider Dealer (AT&T thru Hawk Electronics).
Search the Kaiser Forum for GPS, look specifically in the Software section and I think you'll find more than enough info to help you make your decision.
If you do make the switch, I'd keep the Wizard and start playing with Cooked ROMs and Software so you can get acquainted with the process. What you can do with the Tilt on this Forum is only limited by the time these guys have to tweak.
For what it may or may not be worth, my opinion is...get the Tilt!
Thanks guys, I plan on getting it and I have spb 3 so ill throw it on there right away

Absolute noob.....be gentle....please!

Hi all,
completely new to the ofrum although i've visited a few threads in the past.
I'm now in need of help so am appealing to the knowledgeable demi-gods on here for help.
I've had a TD since July 2008 (launch day in UK) on vodafone UK.
After having some issues with it being slow/sluggish etc, I did a rom update to 1.93.161.2 WWE (Aug 08).
Now, the vodafone sat nav hasn't worked properly since about May this year (don't use it very often), its always stuck at "acquiring satellites". So after speaking to VF they advise me to flash the newer rom 1.96 (iirc).
But, i've spoken to a few people who recommend going an alternative route, i.e. back to HTC 2.03 rom?
Basically what i want from my TD apart from the usual phone/sms funtions is:
pop3 mail setup (like i have now)
exchange sync'ing (like i have now)
sat nav (like i have now)
Before wiping i need to take my contacts off the phone, copying to the sim isn't an option as there are too many and it trunkates the names.
I've been advised about THIS for taking contacts off (activesync doesn't seem to want to do it).
I've also been told that using HTC rom will render my vodafone satnav (which is free with my tarrif) useless, but that igo8 and tomtom are better. But are they free?
I'd really appreciate a gentle approach to doing this please. I've done a search but there's so many topics on roms etc that i felt it needed a new thread.
I'm actually an I.T. manage by day, so i'm not new to technology.....just flashing mobiles i guess.
Thanks for any help offered. You WILL have a place reserved in paradise.
Before you do anything i suggest you try the htc gps tool, you can use it to erase old gps data maybe you will get a fix then, also try quick gps if you dont have it, it uses gprs/3g to download that latest sat data so its easyer to get a sat lock quicker
Thanks for the reply mancsoulja. My TD does have quickgps installed, but it makes no difference to helping get the satnav working sadly.
I will however try the other app to clear the data and give it another go, thanks.
Will let you know about that.
Actually, what i forgot to mention in my op is that if i get a sms during the day; i click on it, read it, then try and hit 'men > reply' it can take well over a minute to actually respond. The same happens when i want to make a call. I use the TouchFlow to browse to my favourite contacts, but trying to scroll down the list of only 10 contacts it simply does nothing. Then about a minute or so later it catches up with itself and goes all over the place trying to catch up with every key press since.
This was the original reason i had for upgrading the rom.
Its as if waking it up after doing nothing for ages makes it all sluggish (bit like a pc when waking from hibernate i guess) Its very laggy.
Ok, the htc gps tool? Lol i have nooooo idea what i'm supposed to do with that.
Google maps works fine, in that it knows my location and i can plan a route using it, so GPS is working. Its just that vf satnav won't work.
Any ideas on this please?

I've had this problem too. While my dad was using Google Maps and getting great and accurate GPS location that picked up our signal inside Heathrow airport, mine was telling me we were over 3000 km away. I too would like to know.
download the latest satellite map and let it get a good lock, first time takes forever.
the GPS is only supposed to work if the phone has a clear view of the sky.
sometimes it will work with small interference (a car's roof for example) but inside a building you wont have any luck
make sure to enable "Use GPS" and not triangulate by signal
Never had any issues with GPS. If you have downloaded quickGPS data, it takes in matter of seconds (about 20) coldstart, hotstart is pretty much immediate. Without quickgps it is in terms of minutes, usually about 5 mins tops for coldstart. Hotstart is, depending on how far are you since you last time used GPS and how long is it, matter of seconds.
Hi there,
I used to have the same problem and I tried almost everything. I used different GPS tweaks which can be found in this forum like "turboGPS" but these would never work that well for me.
I found a great solution yesterday right here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=571266
Install the "GpsModDriver_320.CAB", follow the instructions, softreset, start the program you just installed and watch your device find the sattelites within seconds.
Just read the instructions in the link attached above.
have fun!
This should really be in the General forum, it's not a ROM development issue (or you could check in the specific thread for your ROM if it's a custom one, in case anyone else has GPS issues).
it works! i love you guys!
