Windows update from phone?
It NEVER worked.

Windows update from phone -appears to work for me ...but has ALWAYS come back with "no updates available" (so totally useless)
For iPlayer just use Opera to access http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer
and click from there -works flawlessly (you have to be in the UK ...it opens in Streaming Media)
No longer need any tweaks -BBC is supporting Xperia directly now

Live Messenger Problem

I've been using Dutty's DualTouch Version 2 ROM for the pass month and have been very happy with it. Lately i'm facing a connection problem with the Live Messenger. After i click on sign in, it just remains busy and eventually after about 2 minutes, it says "There is a connectivity problem....". When i fire up Internet Explorer, it works fine and pretty fast to. I'm getting either the "3G" or "H" icon with full signal.
I've called and scream at my telco but am thinking that's it actually not the fault on their side. I've hard reset my device and still face this problem. The problem is....sometime i get to log on, sometimes i don't. Out of 10 tries, probably i get to log on once. I've also tried different timing of the day but still same problem
Anybody else facing this problem? Is this normal? I'm using Version 10.6.0033.0600 of the Windows Live. Hope to get some help. Thanx.
Just tried windows live on the Dutty v3 rom and it signs in ok here.
Does any other internet app have any problems??
Nup....all the other application like QuickGPS, I-Calc & IE works fine. That's why i'm still puzzled. Anybody else has any ideas? Any tweaks?
If you install something like vxutil, can you sucessfully ping messenger.hotmail.com ???
vxutil download - ftp://ftp.cam.com/cambridge/win/vxUtil.zip
I'm having the same issue with my HTC TYTN II, running Windows Live Messenger 10.6.0031.2600. Everything else works just fine, but when I try to logon to Messenger it says there's some connectivity problem. I seem to get it to work like one time out of 30 tries, but mostly I just give up.

[Q] "New Connection Setup database found. Do you want to install it"

About once every minute I receive a message on my screen saying “ New Connection Setup database found. Do you want to install it?”
I push yes and it downloads about 14% stops and says server error.
My question is what to do with this? How do I disable?
Thanks for the help!!!

I have exactly the same problem. Been driving me nuts Whatever I do, whether I am on HSDPA or WIFI connection, it never gets further than 66% (that's the max I ever obtained) - I've tried at least 20 times and would really like to know if there's a way to get rid of this thing. I tried disabling the auto configuration, but I can confirm (as per above) that this does not work on the Touch HD.
Naturally, HTC refers you to Microsoft. I haven't contacted Microsoft because I thought I'd first find out where this comes from.
Any ideas/tips/solutions!???????????
Thanks!
This thing also bugging me alot...disabling the auto configuration doesn't work...May be some know any tweak for that...
I happened to me. I managed to download the database connecting the phone to a desktop with DSL connection. It installed something (I don't know what) and since then I don't have the messages anymore.

This is being discussed there, maybe some posts can help you.

So far there's no working solution for this. Some people have managed to download the database, the phone rebooted itself (keep this in mind, because you'll lose any open and unsaved data) and a new connection rom version now shows up, without any visible impact.
But most of the people just cant download the whole database (me included). Seems to be related to the fact that many people are trying to download at the same time. Maybe try doing it at some wicked hours when the load is lower.

yes, that's true.... I got also the same problem, but fortunately I was wide awake at 5 a.m. and my HD manage to finish complete database download, after which phone auto rebooted and now there is no more message “ New Connection Setup database found. Do you want to install it?”.
after this update I didn't notice any significantly changes ....
Everyone connect the phone to activesync using a pc that has internet connection and then press update on the phone. It will use your pcs internet to download it and it will go successfull.
I tried to download with my HSDPA and my WIFI but no luck. As soon as connected on activesync it started to download and finished 100%

[Q] Android Market stuck on Starting Download

I have tried several different 2.2 builds on my (AT&T) HTC Pure. Most of what is supposed to work does, and it's fun to play with. However, what's really holding me back is an inability to download anything from the Android Maket. I can sign-in and browse just fine, but when I "Install" something and go to the downloads tab, all I find are apps that say "Starting Download" with a perpetually cycling progress bar. I've let it run for 15 minutes and never got anything to actually download. I do not have a data-plan, so I use wifi. I have verified that wifi works.
I have also noticed that I cannot sign into gTalk. I've seen several posts suggesting that once you sign into gTalk, that I'd be able to download apps (and vice-versa), but so far, neither of these applications/features is working for me.
The latest install I've tried is XDANDROID.2.2.AOSP.FRX01.17.09.10.UPDATE_PACKAGE.7z and it still has this problem.
Has anybody else gotten around this problem and have some advice???
I tried using my phone to create a new google account, and that worked, but I still couldn't download.
Happened to me as well. I just forgot about it, and after a while I got an alert that one of the apps is now installed (and indeed working). The other apps on the list hanged as well, and took a lot of time to start downloading.
Seems like a nasty bug to me.
it's a small comfort to know I'm not alone, but I still haven't seen anything download successfully, and as long as I can't install new apps (from the market), there's really no point in using [XD]Android.
Try settings/applications/manage applications/market 'all tab' and force stop. Clear cache. Clear data. So next time you use market it is like new and downloads and installs without hanging etc. Your downloads tab should still have a record of apps you downloaded.

thanks anunna, but that didn't work. I tried downloading the apks for App Brain and the associated "Fast Web Installer" and copying to my device (storage card), but that doesn't seem to work any better. I guess those apps still depend on Android Market to download.
aarrrrrghh. so frustrating... I have now installed Rhod.2.2BLAZN.092610 with the new builds from 9/25 (hw 3d included), and still have this problem. Does anybody have any ideas?? I dont' see how this could be device-specific. ?? I've tried different gmail accounts, different builds, and different wifi networks. The only thing I haven't tried (and can't really) is accessing market over 3G. I say "can't" because I actually have a data-block on my phone to prevent unintentional use and associated charges.
Does anybody have any advice for troubleshooting ?
thanks.
BTW, this is what worries me about WP7: one source for all your apps = single point of failure.
I'll just keep updating my own thread here...
Installed the latest build from 9/28, and nothing's changed.
This time, I went straight into Google Talk and got stuck on the "signing in" screen. Eventually it came back with a message stating, "Could not connect to server. Will retry shortly." This is bogus though, since I can do nearly everything else on the internet, via my wifi connection.
I have the same problem. Android Market doesn't download any software, "Starting Download..." stage never ends...
ashway, have you tried opening Google Talk? Also, do you have a data plan on your phone (3G)?

I haven't try Google Talk yet, will try later. I do have a data plan, do you mean that Market works via 3G and doesn't through WiFi?
I have a data-block on my phone (so I don't accidentally rack up per Kb charges), so I access everything via WiFi. I've seen people suggesting that toggling between wifi or cellular can get it to work, but that's not an option fo me.

I have tested 3G data connection and Market works just fine, but still no success via WiFi.

BOO! so, I'm out of luck??
(thanks for your update though)
Has anybody been able to download from A.M. over WiFi without ever using 3g?
It just happened to me while i'm updating a few apps. I did some research and found an article and follow that way. what you need to do is to un-install the app that you're updating. after that, forced close the Market app and clear the cache. then try again to install it from market. well, it works for me.
by the way, there's also another bug that make Market FC every time when u download an app. if it happen to you, just open Setting>Applications>Manage Application> Market and click "Uninstall Updates".
I am in Malaysia and I have this problem too. It is either "Starting Download...", "Download Unsuccessful" or "Download Paused" message.
I'd tried both 3G (3 different telcos; Vodafone while in NZ, Optus while in AU and Maxis in MY)and WiFi (different AP; at least 10). While connected, I can do everything except for download apps from Market. Also tried signing in different Gmail account.
Being desperate, I tried to install Apps via "adb install" command. Guess what, I couldn't uninstall my apps (both using "adb uninstall" and "Settings > Application > AppName > Uninstall"). It force close everytime I tried.
I got OTA updates for FRG83 twice hoping it will fix my Market problem, but it did not install because it can't. When I tried sdcard:update.zip, I got status 7 error. Some livewallpaperspicker.odex error. Tried searching for the odex but couldn't find one specifically for Nexus One.
Also tried rooting my phone and install ROM Manager. Performed a Fix Permission issue (which it claims often fix Force Close message; one friend recommended this too) and all I got is "An error occurred while attempting to run privellege...". I am sure it is rooted with Superuser Permissions showing "Allow" status. To confirm, I had Move2SD installed and able to port most apps to SD without the developer setting the option.
Just want to share this with all of you that have this problem. Is there anyone can help? The only thing that makes me keep this phone is because its a gift from my wife. Or else I would just get something else.
guys I have the same problem as you do! something I noticed though is that the phone doesnot recognise my SD card and market is downloading the apps on the card . can you pls check your sd card if they are mounted and recognized propperly!
restarting the phone and letting the card mount propperly fixed the adnroid market download freeze issue

brafun, are you using XDAndroid on a TD2/Pure? Were you experiencing problems only when using wifi? do you have a cellular data plan/connection? Does wifi download work now? I'm a bit confused, since XDAndroid is installed on my SD, I don't see how you can have Android running without recognizing it.
thanks

Your guess is as good as mine but the fact is that when I was trying to download an app the behaviour was exactly the same as you described it! It said Starting Download and froze at that point. Cleaning the Cache of market didnt help at all. THen I just started looking for reasons why is this happening, and in "SD card and phone storage" I saw that the SD card was marked as not mounted... check yours and see what it says

[Q] Zune Marketplace issue

I bought some free products from the Zune marketplace through my pc, but they've never appeared.
I connected the phone through wifi to try to install these products but useless.
Three updates appeared, when i try to update them, this message appears:"The Windows Live ID Service is unavailable right now.....".
When you try to install an application through the phone, this message appears:"can't get this info right now check back in a little while."
I have read a lot about this issue and tried to do many steps and things but useless and didnt find a solution that solves this issue.
hint: it was working well before.

[Q] Need Help, Connection Problem.

I have some problems with my Xperia Sp recently.
At the beginning, my phone failed to load the news-feed (in facebook app) and then I can't play any video posted on that app. The other apps still works well. Several weeks later, I noticed that when I started to browse (in chrome), Google frequently ask me to enter captcha. The next week it getting worse, when I try to search via google image, it never load completely. It look like the pict in attachment_1. Next, the other problem comes, I can't install or update apps from play store. It says "downloading" but no progress (attachment_2). Now, I can't access youtube at all and "some" sites that contain videos. It doesn't even load. I've restored my phone to factory default setting but nothing change.
I try to connect to a WiFi network and suddenly everything works well. So I thought the problem is with my network. Then I try to set my phone as portable WiFi hotspot and tell my friends to connect. All above problems come back again to my phone but everybody who connect to my WiFi hotspot can surf the internet very well.
Please tell me what I should do.....

Ok, I'm not sure, but I have an idea.
You got a Windows PC an the default Sony Android?
Go to PC Companion and search for the option "repair phone".
Then, Companion will download the rom from Sony servers and install it newly. This will erase absolutely everything on the phone. After this, any software error in the phone should be gone. Even if you catched a virus. If you catched one, it could survive a factory reset...
Try this before you try anything with flashtool (in case you read about it). Let's first try the easy options
