I have an xda atom, is it worth it to upgrade to an xperia x1? - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an xda atom, is it worth it to upgrade to an xperia x1? why? please help me

If you can get it cheap, why not? But for it's original $700 price, better get one of the newer phones.

@ OP - YES.

only if you can get the x1 cheap. otherwise get something newer like the omnia pro with its 800mhz
ive used many cooked roms on an atom exec and x1 you will not be impressed with the performance of the xperia considering what you are having now. 520MHZ on a qvga device like yours does wonders in the perceived performance. i wish my x1 is as snappy as the ATOM EXEC

i only have the original atom not the exec one. just the atom one. will it be worth the upgrade?

Xperia is for us who already brought it last time, better advise is tp2 or omnia 2
But i tell you here, you can't find any screen better than xperia, imagine 800*480 fit into 2.8 inchs screen XD

Rumor has it that the X2 will be announced next week- probably hold out for another month or two and get that. It's got a marginally larger screen.

Where did you read it? i did't read anywhere that it sayd x2 comes out. normaly you here it months before it comes. and if you look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=522807 it lookes really awfull i hope the final x2 wouldn't look like this one.

i got mine secondhand x1 2 months ago at price of $350, its pretty good deal. now i think it should drop to below $300

Hi there,
As a fellow xda atom (original) owner who upgraded to xperia x1 in January this year. I say the experience is definitely worth it and will be a massive upgrade from WM5.
However, on the cost wise side, I don't think it is worth it at the current retail prices unless you have a special offer. There are other models around now as others have mentioned.
If you do press ahead though, do take note of the particular quirks of the X1. The battery casing paint peeling problem for black xperias, the case cracks and especially the keyboard insensitivity over time.

the diference between the atom and the exec are not that big. ive seen vanilla ATOMs with cooked 6.1/6.5 roms that run really fast. noticably snappier than my x1
the x1 is a major upgrade of what you have but i would get it only if you pay ~$300-$350 for it

i understand.. i think i can find it at around $300 here in my location, thanks

i use to have an atom until it broke so i got this phone because it seemed nice. i don't really think the x1 is worth getting if your atom is still in good condition. if it was around $300, maybe it'd would be worth it. the x1's buttons are much stiffer compared to the atom's and the x1 doesn't support some programs because of its resolution. if my atom still worked, i would not have gotten the x1.

Thank you, thank you, that's far too kind .

I highly consider the Touch Pro2.
I just got my hands on T-Mobile's Touch Pro2
And here is my verdict:
Keyboard is way better, larger, and easier to press like 10 times better.
Arrow keys is extremely useful.
I can finally use my finger (not fingertips) to accurately press a puny button
The screen is larger and therefore more pleasant.
The speaker is louder and better quality for sure.
Less laggy than my X1.
Think of it as an X1 without the exterior D-Pad, headphone jack, and flash LED.

with the D-pad its easiyer to scroll espacilly with the one of X1
Headphone jack lets you use youre own headphones i like this
Flash led lets you take pictures at darker places.
And the laggy isn't the phone but the OS.
The x1 has better battery life than tp2

Are you going to upgrade to Sony XPERIA X1?

A simple enough poll.
Are you going to upgrade from your Kaiser to the Sony X1?
Personally I love my Kaiser, it is by far the best phone I've ever had. My only problem is the screen resolution.... Now bring along the Sony Xperia X1 and have it pretty much functionally the same as the kaiser and the larger screen resolution and you have an awesome phone.
What right now could beat the X1, the TyTN III, but it's not anounced and unlikley to be this year.
So personally I can't wait for the X1.
Definitely not, though my kaiser is not perfect, i dont think a X1 would be. i've been using Sony's laptop, cell phones, mp3,etc in the past, but everytime there are some unacceptable designs fault like easily broken buttons and leakage on machine body. They just put their efforts on design, without testing carefully the components!
it would be better to ask this question when the device is in the wild and people have had a change to review it,
it could be a lemon for all we know

That's true, but and a real but, if it is pretty much the same as the Kaiser, with the higher resolution, slighly faster processor and graphics drivers (which I doubt really HTC want to fix for the kaiser) then this will be a killer phone.
Can we have another option please? Something along the lines of:
No, I'm not touching another device made by HTC, no matter who they're working with.
I like to try new gadget. So, for me, definitely I'm going to upgrade to Sony Xperia X1. If it's not going to be that good, I'll be back to my Tytn II.
It's really too soon to say, it looks good from this distance, but until there are real world reports on performance etc it's not possible to judge. I'd like it to be a killer device that I could upgrade to with confidence, but my previous experience of both SE and HTC tells me to wait.
It's still possible that this phone will only be a minor improvement on the Kaiser, and the Kaiser itself may still be improved in the meantime (through the work going on here, if not at HTC).
If I didn't have the Kaiser I would buy the X1 no doubt about that - but for my use there just isn't enough new stuff under the cover to make me go away from the Kaiser...
Oh yes please!!!!!
I will definitely check it out closer to launching but from what I have seen up to now I don't see any reason that I would not take it. I use to be a SE fan before I got into ppc's. I was looking for OS freedom, that is why I started with WM devices. I liked my Wizard and after almost 2 weeks can't find fault with my new Kaiser. Deep down I'm still a SE fan though.
Can't wait for launch date :
Not sure...I really like the larger screen and the buttons on the X1 as they are spaced out.
It also seems to be lighter/thinner which would be a plus.
But hopefully when the release WM7.0, it will make the Kaiser UI much more friendly and interactive.
None of this is confirmed and this is just a mockup, but it looks really sharp: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Microsoft-Windows-Mobile-7-0-Preview-or-Simple-Mockup-75751.shtml
For the most part though I really like my Kaiser

SE have confirmed that was just a mistake on their website, the release date stands at H2 - meaning anytime between July and December this year.
i just went on the sony website and watched their commercial. Its the crappiest commercial to advertise the phone. Its 6 seconds of the phone in action, and the rest is flying paper airplane.
I cant decide whether I want it or not. if it has all the things kaiser does, then yeah, but otherwise most likely not.
In theory it has all that the Kaiser has, plus a higher resolution screen. The really killer difference though is the size and weight - it really is a LOT smaller, and a lot more pocketable, while still retaining that full qwerty etc.

The most important feature is the keyboard. Sure that's why we all have the Kaiser right...
Size is important, but too small and you can't type. You'd end up with a Treo/ Blackberry/ Samsung type keypad and I can't stand those buttons, way too small.
In saying that though, the thickness is really important, it would be great if it was a lot thinner, but again if you go too thin you get into that area that samsung have been pushing. Have you tried out their D900 phone, just way too thin, pain in the a*s to press those keys.
Also weight. Kaiser is definatly the heaviest phone i've used, but I don't find it that bad. I thought it was going to be way to heavy, my old eTen m600 a lot lighter, but really I don't mind it at all.
A bit lighter, a bit smaller, a lot thinner, with the bigger screen, the better keyboard layout and we have a winner.
I can't wait to see the phones out in 2010!
As a long standing HTC user I have been happy with the MDA Vario III overall but the display problems and poor quality camera (slow screen refresh etc) have been a BIG disapointment. The poor response from HTC has been even worse and what appears to be a complete lack of customer service has really
put me off them!
I am certainly looking forward to checking out the XPERIA X1 in the flesh..
Sony have generally delivered a good solid handset in the past and the battery life and camera are often excellent too. As long as they get the whole package to come together and the initial feedback is good I will consider letting my Vario III go.
The only issue for me will be that I am currently only 5 months into a contract with T-Mobile so I will need to get a SIM free or go for a second contract. Oh the price we pay for technological advances!
Zippyioa
Rather than listen to the hype, I'd need to see it and test drive it.
It's gotta be head and shoulders above what the Kaiser has to offer, because I'm not the type of guy to upgrade just to have the latest.
Good thing my last HTC device was a Blue Angel and not a Wizard or Hermes, or I'd still be using it
personally i dont really care HOW much of an upgrade it is from TytnII to X1...of course it'd be nice if all the problems of the tytnii be fixed in the x1 but i just like to try new phones...so i will try out the x1...if i dont like it..worst case is go back to the tytnii...so no lost

What I will be eventually doing is switching over regardless of contracts. I will going to Florida in the summer and picking one up there. When I return, I will just simply selling my old Diamond. This will all happen by August of this year. I never wait for contracts to expire. That would make me go crazy having a phone for 2 or 3 years straight. This is my 4th phone in the last 6 months....lol
Phones I had in the last 6mths:
1) HP 6955
2) Cruise
3) Trinity
4) Diamond
i think i will be getting the touch pro 2 instead of the diamond 2
Touch Pro 2 here too... played with the Diamond 2 at MWC, I don't like it's look and feel.
Touch Pro 2 is the poison I choose this time.
Will keep my Beloved Diamond 1 for when I need Sleeeknesssss.
Greetz to all.
lucky you... wish i had the chance to visit the mwc
i dont like the look of the diamond 2 it feel cheap
and the pro 2 is very biig its even bigger than TyTN II its better if they name it TyTN III
i will wait for a new phone from htc (diamond 3)
Don't like the Diamond 2
Diamond 2 doesn't look as nice as my original diamond. Touch Pro 2 looks better than the diamond 2, but I'm not liking it either. I might just totally skip on the latest HTC phones and try out the Palm Pre 'till HTC comes up with something else.
Didn't HTC hire a designer or something for their new devices??
I think the oncoming HTC devices are ugly... I really liked the touch phones, they were the first phones that just looked good (except the cruise) and especially the diamand/pro
I wish i never got that touch dual i have now im stuck with it until december;(
But i guess it'll be the iphone for then, I already have a decent winmo phone

Chainfire, can you elaborate a little on what you didn't like about the Diamond 2's look and feel? Is it bricky, cheap, squarish? I have a D1 and am considering the 'upgrade'. Thanks.
well, as i compared the dimensions of the new diamond2 to the old it seems it got a bit larger. it now has the size of the iphone, which in my opinion is too large.
i really like the size of the diamond1, it is a phone-size all-in wonder, and not a tablet-pc with a phone function.
the only real advantage i see is the bigger screen for better working but this is also the reason for the bigger dimensions...
the rest of the new features?
better camera? well get a digicam if you want good pictures, 5mp but no flashlight, forget good pics at evening or at indoor places with bad light...
the other updates: memory,sd slot and better battery, well nice but its no world-wonder...
and the diamond pro 2? brick with phone function? come on...
i will stay with my diamond1 and keep waiting.
so my opionion is: size DOES matter
everyone have a nice day!
i like the no2 think i mgit go there if three get there act together and get a stylish phone made by HTC rather than the current junk
but like most ive got 12 months left on the contract so lets hope the 3 is out and ready and stable by then

You can immediately see it is not as small or as cute as the original Diamond ( <3 !! )
It feels a bit 'stretched' in your hand when you are playing with it, don't have a better word to say it.
But the absolute worst part is the 'bottom of the front' as you can see in the picture. They gray/silvery part looks incredibly cheap/ugly IRL, and its just a waste of space with no function (they should have just made the thing a centimeter shorter).
Furthermore, between the small buttons above the silvery part and the touchscreen soft-buttons is a so called zoom-slider. It's hard to see in the picture on that page, but again this is a waste of space - and it looks really awkward too. While I imagine it could be handy while web-browsing (if it actually works, it didn't do anything on the demo models I played with), at least for me that isn't that important and I would have much preferred an on-screen zoom slider in the browser instead. Again, they could have made the thing another centimeter shorter.
It's just one hell of a butt-ugly phone (well ok it isn't as ugly as say, the G1, but it's nowhere near as sleek as the original Diamond and Touch Pro) and wastes space all over the place. It doesn't feel 'right' in your hand either.
Hope that explains it a bit.
Note that I just noticed the Rhodium has this frecking zoom slider as well... bah!
the only characteristic worth mentioning in case you make the transition is the card slot... But really! Features like the enlarged screen (800x480), a wee better camera and a flashy new metallic design won't make me change my diamond... I mean, they aren't features which make a big diff... let alone define a TRUE SEQUEL.
+ they ditched the D-pad and replaced it with a silly horizontal zoom panel... Why!?!?! it pretty much looks like a DOWNGRADE to me.
No thx!
Not me, that's for sure!
I like my Diamond, despite its poor speed and short battery life... but I'm hoping that something else good comes out in the 9 months or so that are left on my 18 month contract!
My preference would be another WinMo phone but faster, better battery, TV out and possibly even proper headphone jack. Doesn't have to be HTC because HTC software is so poor.

I only played with the Diamond2 a little bit today and yesterday but the one thing I noticed is that performance did seem to be noticeably improved. As I whipped around TF3D it seemed quite a bit snappier than my Diamond. Some of the hardware changes do make you wonder but the TF3D software seems significantly better (that being said - I did get WM to freeze rather easily when playing with the onscreen keyboard - oops!) I didn't think the phone was butt ugly but, in all fairness, I was drooling a little.
Just like most people, the HTC people said that the Pro2 seems to be the one exciting people more but while the features are cool it is kind of a brick IMHO. Of course, I also looked at the P6500 and that made the Pro2 look not *quite* so big!
certainly not me, the device as it is is pretty close to perfect in terms of size/weight.
with the diamond2 getting bigger and heavier, it's a big turnoff to me.
i had a choice of buying a north american diamond but did not as it's thicker and heavier.

Thanks for the insight. I'm really on the fence about 'upgrading'. I'm intrigued by the widescreen for maps/pictures/videos and the 5MP camera has also sparked my attention. The cam on the current Diamond is very good IMO and so I'm just figuring it will get even better on the D2. I use my phone a lot for pictures. I have the NAM version of the D1 so the D2 will actually be the same weight and a little thinner. But I do know what you mean about it being 'stretched'. I had an Imate 8502 and it was a narrow phone that was long. It felt very stretched in hand so that's going to be a factor for me. Loosing the dpad (even if the D1's is crappy) is another big downer.
I've actually been toying with buying a Samsung Omnia instead. $200 cheaper, same camera specs but with a flash, widescreen (although not VGA) and a mouse pointer to 'replace' the dpad. Who knows...
My provider gave me a Samsung Omnia for free and after using a widescreen device (yes, I know, WQVGA, not WVGA), the screen on the Diamond seems too small to use. I will personally be going with the Touch Pro2, not the Diamond2. This is mainly because of the bigger screen size as well as the keyboard, not to mention the decent speaker on it and flashlight.

!!! Was the Xperia worth it? What about the Touch Diamond/Pro 2?? Help me... decide

i'd still buy my xperia again at 750 or whatever I spent today even though I could get a touch diamond 2 or touch pro 2.

I'd rather have the Verizon Touch Pro2 than the Xperia X1a.
But......for 500 dollars and above vs a 270 Xperia X1a....I'd pick Xperia anyday.
There is no better than Xperia in my opinion.

Agreed 100%.
Man, Xperia simply rules. You'll find details as the alarms and sounds that can be fixed. But i'm so happy with my phone. It's the best.
and of course you can make fun of iphone users with a simple xperia skin.
Xperia's Design Make Me Feel Like Heaven
The Phone Built & Design Is So Sexy ...
Yeah the design should have won an award. It set a new level for phone and design. Make it slightly bigger in scale and it would have been a ****ing amazing phone.
Not sure! It is lush but the TP2 has a better keyboard, no doubt! Better hardware (other than lack of 3.5mm jack) but the xperia has extensive rom community which TP2 doesnt!

The TP2 has a 3.6" display vs a 3.0", an accelerometer and slightly more RAM at 288MB. TP2 is missing the flash and the 3.5mm headphone jack the X1 does have. Other than that and the design differences, the hardware is the same, so it's up to each person to decide which hardware setup they prefer.
x1 is betterer
X1 metal finish made me unable to sleep
the 2.8 inchs fits the 800x480 resolution.. It is much neat than desktop monitor!
Now the sound volumn can be hacked, no missed call anymore.
and the battery, 1500ma stored in a thin flim, incredible!
I have the X1. the 3" screen is rather small. I'd appreciate the extra .6" of the TP2. Accelerometer is a better benefit, IMO, compared to the LED flash.
I am coming from E90. Screen of E90 is larger - 4", about the same resolution (352 vs 480 vertical). Nokia's screen is also much more readable especially at direct sunlight. Haven't seen TP2's though.
So, the Xperia is a better choice... but
which one is better out of these two?
Touch Diamond 2, or Touch Pro 2?
To me, the Touch Diamond 2 looks a lot sleeker/cooler, and the diamond finish on the back is to kill for... but what about hardware?
what about the screen ? 3 inch is enough ? dont you prefer a bigger screen ?

Close to buy a new phone, Help!

Hi guys!
I'm from the Elfin forum and I'm decided to buy a new phone, so I'm confused to choose between XPERIA and Omnia.
After search about both phone specs I was surprised to know that XPERIA is HW 3D capable and that it's almost or fully capable to run M2D 3D, so I'm almost sure to buy a XPERIA phone instead of Omnia.
I would like to know from you (people that really use this phone ) how is the phone on day by day use, with games and emulators, etc in overall aspects.
Sure about your help, thanks a lot!
Are you serious gonna buy a phone because it has manilla 3d?
Ok manilla 3d runs same as on the htc phones.. but this qualcomm cpu aint So good for other 3d purposses like games
If you can get a cheap xperia x1 sure go ahead but dont pay top price for it..
Since most of the xperia's will eventually get cracks or other problems..
you could also look at touch pro 2 it has bigger screen, tv out, g-sensor and 1 row more keys. (altho that one has the same cpu and tp2 is way more expansive)
you could also wait for other phones with the qualcomm snapdragon or nvidia tegra cpu's those 2 should come out soon i guess.
I'm in Brazil guy, on the local providers the most advanced phones are iPhone (isn't a smatphone), HTC Diamond, Omnia and now XPERIA.
I thinked on XPERIA cause the HW 3D and physical qwerty, and after for M2D 3D that's pretty cool interface.
The price for these phones on the Brazil providers it's about $700, are you think it expensive?
You sure, there are phones most capable, with g-sensor, tv-out, larger screen..., but about these I did mention, in your opinion, how is the best?
About the games, how it was?

No, most will NOT get them.
OP get the Xperia and be happy with your life afterwards (or happier).

Yes, that is very expansive. Check ebay. I got mine for $270 in fairly mint condition.

Well ok mine didnt get cracks but the screen is going blue when sliding out (after repairs..) (before repairs it went out when sliding open)
So yes .. the phone has weird problems altho not every one will experience these
(yes i know a cable is loose and giving wrong colors but hey.. its a stupid problem because i didnt drop it ..)
Hi guys,
I had checked the ebay and the offers are about $500 for new phones, and $350 for used ones. In fact it's not so different of the prices in Brazil's operators
I readed something about cracks in some devices, but maybe it's a fault in some of first manufactured lot or else bad quality material that was used, that certainly already was changed on new manufactures.
But I want to know about the overall performance, if the device is really fast as the Diamond or Omnia (that are my other options of buy).
In truth, I'm discarding the Diamond because it has no SD slot, so I can't expand its memory.
Considereing the Omnia x XPERIA, I'm loosing a 5 megapixel camera, g-sensor, a little more speed processor and a little more large screen? But on XPERIA I'm getting a physical qwerty that maybe more useful that g-sensor, the 3.2 mp camera that is already more efficient than the 2 megapixel from my Elfin, double RAM and ROM, and the rest I think are equivalent.

What you can say about the day by day use?
I'm using both the Omnia and Xperia at present, but am prefering the Xperia...
Even though the Omnia has a 5mp camera, the X1 3.2mp is more than sufficent for random pictures, obviously not something you'd take holiday snaps with.
The lack of G-sensor is a blessing, it really annoyed me on the Omnia and usually I turned it off as the screen would change orientation when least expected.
Even though the screen on the X1 looks quite a lot smaller compared to the Omina, the quality is far superior in both touch response, colour and resolution, you can really tell the difference after using the X1 and then going back to the Omnia.
As for speed of use, I'm using the PCTECH WM6.1 custom rom which is amazing. Very responsive, speedy and with NO bugs or crashes I've come across from using for the last 3 weeks. It really does make the Xperia a joy to use.
Using the hardware keyboard is a joy from using the onscreen Omnia keyboard, now I can write so much without typos. My friends now know what I'm trying to say when I text them.
...but there are downsides to the Xperia v Omnia...mainly the sound that comes from the X1's speaker. The speaker quality is awful, the sound is very tinny and quiet. Without tweaking the Xperia to increase the ring volume it's almost unhearable, as for listening to music from it don't even bother, where as the Omnia's speaker quality is very good. It's loud and of great quality.
There also seems to be an issue with video playback on the X1, in that unless you downsize the resolution of the video's it's very choppy, where as the Omina is spot on.
Internet browsing for the X1 is MUCH faster than on my Omnia for some reason too.
Also I like the Xperia as it's more substantial when in your pocket. It's heavier and thicker than the Omnia but at least you know it is in your pocket. A lot of the time I wasn't sure if I'd lost my Omnia from my pocket due to it's slim size and light weight.
It's really what you want out of your phone as to which one to get.
I at present am enjoying the Xperia as my phone of choice rather than the Omnia, it just depends whether the ring tone issue bothers you that much.
Both are great Win Mo phones so either way you're getting a good phone which is highly customizable
I am X1 owner for half a year. The phone is very good regarding functionality and design, however it is rather slow. I am using official R2A firmware, I have read it gets faster with the newest R3A or custom ROMs - haven't tested it. And I must say I cannot compare it to other WM phones since I've never had any. For me it is a very basic requirement to be able to listen to music, have my RSS Reader App open and load a page in Opera and switch between these apps rapidly - the X1 doesn't manage this very well, gets stuck and you have to wait for some time. But as I've said, I don't know about other WM phones and to be honest I don't believe they are so much faster. As for gaming, the X1 is definitely not a gamer's choice. You can play NFS and stuff very well but there aren't so many cool WVGA games. I had big trouble running emulators. PS1 emulator works but with about 2 FPS, GBC emulator is almost well-playable without sound. That's it. If you want a phone for playing games, the X1 is not the right device for you.
from my opinion, xperia is neaerly a year old. x2 is already coming really soon, well, within the next few months then, furthermore, HTC leo is more powerfull, but most probably lacks a hardware keyboard... so... if I were you, i'd wait a few more moments... look around on different websites to see new phone previews etc. etc. and for games... well, maybe you shouldconsider an iphone 3G, wich, is also a year old and may be much cheaper now, but it let's you play games for dayzzzzzzz
it is expensive from ebay, you can by cheap phone from us
Dear buyer,
the phone which in ebay is expensive ,as seller must pay ebay cost. we has a eshop, www.nowsupplier.com, you can find more mutil function unlock cell phone ,it is cheap and new. you can pay by credit or paypal.
the screen!
dude! dont forget the screen! i cant believe noone mentioned this before!
yea the omnia screen is slightly larger, but the xperia screen has MUCH higher resolution!
omnia is a measly 400x240 while xperia is a whopping 800x480!!
considering screen size/resolution,, the xperia has almost 5 times the res of omnia! pair that with coreplayer and xperia is a hel of alot better to watch movies on!
also the media panel is great, smooth flick scrolling and amazing sound quality add up to a great music device.
go for xperia dude, definitely
although 700 is too much, it goes for 450 now brand new in lebanon.
ehjoy!

Its good, but had i been in ur place, i wud reconsider X1 for X2..X2 is better actually..but u take the pic..
The X2 does look good...but the X1 is a fantastic machine. Plus the price now is a lot cheaper than when first launched. The only problem I can foresee is trying to find a new one...I could be wrong of course

You can buy one here in Poland.
If I were in your shoes i wouldnt bother. Im on my 4th Xperia in 13 months!
I cannot comment on the X2 but personally would wait for the X10 or choose the new nokia.
My own opinion
To give advice i would suggest to stay away from SE until they get their act together.
If i'd buy a phone today, it'd be the HD2... sure no hardware QWERTY, but with that 4.3" screen you get one hell of a on screen keyboard.. =)
Other than that it's so much more powerful and has more features..
I've had my Xperia X1 since February, and the only problem I've had with it was the slight wearing out of most-used keys on the keyboard. And even that was replaced when I sent it in to SE Repair.
If you want an Xperia, and you'd rather go with a device that has a lot of support and is much, much cheaper, I'd say the X1 is a good idea for you. I plan on selling my black X1i (lightly used, I figure 300ish isn't bad) and getting the X2a when it comes out, for US 3G support, because I absolutely love the new keyboard and design. Plus I just like keeping up on mobile phones
well, since you've asked about build quality and durability - stay away! i own this phone 11 months and it's been in repair for 2 months and 1 week...
you can read in this forum about it:
- hw-keyb deteriorates over time (buttons either don't work or act like pressed 3 times)
- cracks in case
- battery cover (black) scratches very easy
- buttons under the screen lose their shiny finish through usage
- in my case a part of the touch-monitors most upper layer faded (no scratch!)
- monitor cable inside also seems prown to be faulty
also it doesn't get any software-updates anymore. "final" firmware dates from march 2009. and there are still bugs left, especially in performance (lag when playing it's own videos...) i've read somewhere that the new x2-panels don't work on x1 officially. x1-panels are too few to make good use of them.
and if you want to use custom roms (with manila) or the goodies from x2 be prepared for a neverending story of flashing, bug-fixing and waiting for new releases by the cooks. cooking yourself is even more time-consuming.
at the moment stay away from SE. and if you don't want to spend the money for something like a hd2, i'd recommend an htc touch pro 2. same hardware as x1, but a better software-foundation than the x1. plus manila and official update to winmo 6.5.
Well, buy it if you like it.
My Xperia works since Dec 2008 and it's the best SE phone I ever had.
The crack appeared when device hit the floor hard.
So for me build quality is good.
As for HTC TPro 2 - well, as for "software foundation" there's no difference between this and X1.
Some people love TF3D, some - like me - don't and I just love panels.
In reverse HTC has ****ty hardware buttons while SE gives you all the options.
So in the end it's all about subtle differences.
For me the whole X1 concept works.
caliban is saying everything you´ll need to know..
nice phone,crappy quality
some Plastic will kill your Fun ,believe me
-a lot of problems....
save a little bit more of money and buy a touch pro 2....
oh...and forget to buy some other SE Devices...big company, big quality problems at the moment, dood !
If I were in your shoes I'd get the LG Expo or HD2. Caliban is accurate above but I actually think the X1 is a very good device - after tweaking my only big complaint is the sluggishness - it just can't be fixed. Pretty soon all software will be designed for Snapdragon or faster processors, so I would jump on that bandwagon.

Do not get it. Just don't. It's a phone that comes to be luxurious and high-end. But it ages it quickly.
