HELP NEEDED! Flashing my X1 - XPERIA X1 ROM Development

HeY Guys...
I've been reading through nearly every single help file which is dealing with debranding/flashing the X1 but I can't get on the right path...
I've downloaded X1_HardSPL and tried to flash my cell phone, but it doesn't work: Always the same: Lost connection to X1... (after my phone started in boot/update mode
X1 shows after the RGB monitor a gray window with "Loanding..." in it...after a few seconds, HardSPL stops the process...
System: Windows 7 RC1
every program and firewall turned off - even via TaskManager
no SIM card inserted
USB cradle directly connected to my laptop (no HUB)
Have you got any idea? I'm sure you have one... Thanks in advance!

I have exactly the same problem. I hope some one have an idea to fix this.

tray to use another computer. it will work with you

Windows 7
Hello,i got win 7 and dont have any problems with flashing x1,make sure you got phone connected with mobile device center, minimize the mobile device center, than start the hardspl.
My phone is connected with cable not via cradle i think the best and safest way is to connect directly.
Mobile device center is important because of drivers for X1.

uninstall active sync...reinstall active sync.

Win 7
Windows vista and win 7 use windows mobile device center not activesync.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-synch.mspx

when the phones about to go into the bootloader a notification comes up (did on mine anyway) i said yes to the notifiication and mine worked!

Please post in the existing Hard SPL thread.

USB Device Not Recognized

I've been using my AT&T Tilt for nearly a month without any problems, but yesterday for reasons I cannot determine, my phone suddenly stopped being recognized by any version of Windows XP or Windows Vista. I tired Windows XP SP2 in a virtual machine on my Mac, I tried it on my wife's Windows Vista machine, and I tried it on my children's Windows Vista machine and I received the same error each and every time.
No matter what machine I plugged it into, I would immediately get a "USB Device Not Recognized" error and neither ActiveSync on Windows XP nor WMDC on Windows Vista would initiate a sync.
I've hard reset my phone multiple times, I've uninstalled and reinstalled both ActiveSync and WMDC, I've even flashed to a different OS on my phone (using my MicroSD card) and nothing has worked.
I'm beginning to wonder if maybe the USB connection on the phone may have failed. I've been contemplating sending it back to AT&T since I had a malfunctioning pixel in the middle of the screen, but with the recent problems I'm starting to lean more towards returning it and less towards living with the pixel issue.
Anyone have any ideas on what might be causing the USB problem?
Just a quick update, when I arrived at work today, I attempted to sync with my work computer (Windows Vista Business) and I had no trouble at all. I'm going to take home the cable that I have here (which came with the BlackBerry I use for work) and see if that makes any difference with my home computers.
wow
I can confirm this as well. I have the Tilt and I used a blackberry cable from my job and it synced up flawlessly. before i was getting that usb not recognized as well.
I'm having the exact same problem now.. it worked fine for 4 months and now.. it just says usb not recognized. Please post the results if your blackberry cable. thanks
I just tried a brand new usb cable and it still didn't work for me
I have the same problem but i've got a solution for this and it's very simple.
For someother reason ActiveSync will boot on the background of your device even when you close it, it will boot up within 10 min or less.
This is the thing you need to do:
Before you plugin your usb cable to sync......
Run taskmanager and close activesync. When you are sure that this application is not running then plugin your USB cable.
It worked for me!

I had this exact same problem happen to me at the end of November - I was using WMDC 6.1 for months then all of a sudden I could not connect (same error message you described). I went back and looked through the MS Windows updates and identified a NVIDEA driver update had caused my problem. Used system restore to roll it back and then everything worked fine.

ya..i bought my girlfriend the HTC Touchdual and has the same problem as well. She can't seem to sync with her Win XP and is only her 2nd time trying to sync and it failed already. In between, I don't think there was any internet connection to update anything.
Please help!
(Sorry to borrow this thread to solve the same problem but on another device btw, I own a Kaiser myself but currently didn't face any problem yet..touch wood!!)
Dwimmerlaik, did you have any luck fixing the problem?
Solved my USB Connection issue in Vista
After trying everything I could find on the net to solve my inability for Vista to stay connected with my HTC Kaiser (ATT TILT), I found the problem exists with the MicroSD card. No matter what, Vista would connect then disconnect my phone after a few seconds. After weeks of searching I finally just decided to take out my 2Gb MicroSD card.....and now Vista maintain connections and I am finally able to sync via WMDC.
Spread the Word!!!! Take out the MicroSD.

too bad I'm not using Vista..
Anyone else have this problem and solved it?
-Try to use the USBs at the back of your PC(not on the front of the case).
-Try to buy another cable(That SHOULD BE an USB2.0 HighSpeed certified shielded cable. That costs something about $6 ).

Didn't work for me either
I've tried doing that multiple times..
Go to phone, menu, options, time zones tab, uncheck the Auto change time zone & clock.
This is a known bug in the firmware that causes A/S to automatically start & then sometimes it tries to start a second sessions of A/S when you plug in to your PC. Give it a try, have you ever noticed that A/S is running in task manager even though you're not connected or just reset? Just one thought.

My computer dont detect my HTC TyTn II

After a hard reset on the TyTn my computer is no longer detecting it when I connect the phone to USB cable. The computer makes a sound when I connect it, but Windows Mobile Device Centrer say that TyTn II is not connected, and it does not show up in My Computer eather.
I've tryed to delete the partnership and reconnect the phone, but nothing happens.
Can anyone help me please! Now I cant install any of my programs og transfer files between the computer and the pocket pc/phone.
Try this:
tap Start > Settings > Connections.
tap USB to computer.
Uncheck the Enable advanced network functionality box
Try this:
tap Start > Settings > Connections.

I uninstalled Windows Mobile Device Centrer and then tryed the tip you described here. At first it looked ok, my computer detected the device and installed the drivers and reinstalled Windows Mobile Device Centrer.
But my device is still not showing up in Windows Mobile Device Centrer or My Computer
Check your personal firewall settings and open the ports MS asks you to at the Windows Mobile home/support page...
Go into task manager & see if Activesync is running. I have the same problem with my tilt & if I kill activesync then reattach it takes a moment the first time, but then it works.
Make sure you are running the latest version of WMDC. I absolutely could not get WMDC to work with my HTC Wizard for months. After MS came out with an updated version of WMDC (around June, I think) it started working fine.
If you absolutely can't get it to work, consider using emoze for over the air syncing of cal, contacts, mail, etc. (or an on-line exchange account.) I had to do that for a few months until I got it to work. Emoze has the advantage of being free. Unfortunately, neither will allow file syncronization, tho.
There is no activesync running.
And everything was working just fine before my device went "mental" and I had to hard reset. So before the hard reset I could use WMDC on this computer, transfer files and run active sync. But now I cant.
I also got an online exchange account so I can sync calender and contacts. But I want to be albe to transfer files to my computer and install new software.
My WMDC version is: 6.1.6965
Some more info about the computer may help. For instance, I take it from your usage fo Windows Mobile Device Center that you are running Vista. In any case, since the problem is with the computer and not the Kaiser, I would see if the manufacturer would provide some support.
Yes, im running Vista and I buildt the PC my self.
But Im not sure its realy the PC that is the problem, because I made the changes (Hard Reset) to the device and thats what caused the problem.
Anyway, I was hoping for some way to debug/troubleshoot this problem.
I am having the same problem. I sync to any one of 8 computers at work and one at home. Work runs XP PRO and Home VISTA Ultimate x64 all worked fine untill this week. I have not made any changes since the last sync, the computers know it's hooked up due to activesync opening and trying to connect when I plug in via USB. But it never connects. I want to flash to Dutty's newest ROM but can't connect. I sync all contacts and e-mail wirelessly but need the computer to flash (I do not have a sd card yet) Any idead would be great! I have tried the ideas listed above but no joy. I have not hard reset the device as of yet ( I need some things off of it first)

I really need help with this!!! I'm pulling my hair out!
Did any of you that had this problem find a solution? I have the exact same issue except a hard reset will fix it for a while, and then the problem will reoccur a few months later. No software has been added during the time frame. Very annoying.

New Xperia will not connect with Vista

Hi,
I am getting a bit frustrated over this.
When I connect my X1 to my Vista x86 nothing happens (well the USB task tray icon show for about a second and vanishes again).
When I disable the "advanced option" in the USB/PC connection settings in the X1 I at least get a USB connection with something identified as "PocketPC USB Sync".
Any idea why this is happening and how I can get a real connection with the win mobile device center?
Thanks for helping me out!
Cheers,
Tillman
maybe give this a try:
http://modernnomads.info/wiki/index.php?page=Windows+Mobile+Device+Center+Troubleshooting
I've once had the issues of not able to connect my Windows Mobile device with vista too, and it can get very annoying.. good luck with it.
You might want to try and disable the firewall and then connect the device. I had this problem with Sygate Personal Firewall (sygate was bought by symantec and personal firewall is now terminated and no longer available)
Thanks for the quick response guys!
I already tried disabling the firewall (nod32) but that did not help.
Also checked all services - everything is peachy in that department.
But still - no connection.
When I switch back to "legacy mode" (disabling the advanced option in usb/pc settings on the device) then the device will tell me that I need to install active sync 4.5 or higher and wmdc still does not connect.
This is really strange...and annoying and the same time.
Any more ideas or any way for me to debug what's going on?
Thanks for you help!
Have you intalled "Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1" on your Vista-PC?
The MobileDeviceCenter should be standard without the need to install...
At my Vista Home the X1 had no problems to connect.
Open the Mobile Device Center and delete all old connections of other PPC. Then start your PC again, Softreset your X1 and try again. This should help. I had the problems too, when first connecting, because he didn't liked my G900-connection which was first
After this I too could install my G900 again and no problems since yet (2 weeks).

Well sometimes the Mobile Device center could stuff up or not work due to some issues such as installation of Mobile Device Center 6.1 went wrong. I have experienced that I think I didn't follow the procedures correctly and things just wouldn't work. Eventually I had to do some uninstall and reinstall many times to finally get it working.
When I first plugged mine it it installed some drivers but didn't show up in the Mobile Device Center; unplugging and replugging in caused it to work...did you change settings in between plugging in for the second time?
What I have tried so far (and nothing worked):
Uninstall / reinstall WMDC
Uninstall / reinstall Win Mobile Remote Adapter (yes, this does show up once I am connected with "advanced" USB mode)
Uninstall / reinstall "PocketPC USB Sync" (shows when X1 is set to legacy USB mode)
When in "advanced" mode I can also see a new LAN connection showing up in network overview.
The same X1 on a different Vista 32bit right next to this one will connect just fine. So it's definitely about a driver or config thing with this Vista.
This is driving me...well you know what.
btw, you did try restarting your comp when performing some of those steps, and you did try different USB ports right?
I know that you had to ask.
Yes I did. I have rebooted the system several times in between all those reinstallation tasks.
By the way. When I am in USB legacy mode and reconnect the USB cable then the X1 will show a messagebox telling me that it's connecting with the host and that the user credentials / user account (having to translate here) are correct.
But still NO connection visible in WMDC.
I had the same problem with my X1. I assumed that because my HTC Diamond worked the X1 would as well.
I finally installed WMDC from the SE install cd, and bingo!! al good. Hope it works for you...
Wow!
Even though it does not work (yet) it's showing some new signs.
Installing WMDC from SE disc fails at 99% progress and then rolls back.
There's gotta be some installation error log this, right?
Thanks for coming up with that suggestion. Really, I should try installing from vendor CDs more often instead of hunting down the latest version on the net.

maybe give event viewer a try and check under Windows Logs (not sure if it will be application or system tho)
just in case you aren't sure, in vista either type in "Event Viewer" in the start menu search bar, or type in "eventvwr"
Don't you just like vista?
That helped (to install SE's WMDC). The issue was that my HTC Universal was still connected to one USB port (for testing purposes since that device is not recognized either).
As soon as I unplugged the HTC I was able to complete the WMDC installation.
Unfortunately though it still won't connect to my X1.
Any more ideas?
what is your settings in Windows Mobile Device Center connection Settings?
Well here is my settings that is working with my x1:
Allow USB connections checked
Allow connections to "DMA"
This computer is connected to "Automatic" (this shouldn't matter)
Allow automatic device authentication checked
Allow data connection on device when connected to PC (this shouldn't matter either)
also, while this link was in the first link that I have posted for trouble shooting, just want to make sure you actually tried The offical Windows Mobile Device Center troubleshooting guide?
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-troubleshooting.mspx
namely these steps:
Quote"
If Windows Live OneCare is installed on your machine, it may be blocking the device connectivity. Please click here for the steps to configure Windows Live OneCare to allow the device to connect.
My device wasn’t connected during this installation.
While it is not a strict requirement that you have a device connected during the installation process of Windows Mobile Device Center, we highly recommend that you do.
"
I didn't have the DMA set (changed that now). Everything else already was like you described and it does not work.
This really freaks me out. I always hated my iTunes/iPhone connectivity but that honestly works much smoother. Of course I do understand that this behavior is non standard as I have experienced myself that the phone works with my other Vista machine but that does not really help me here.
Any update on this? I am having the same problem.
I'm having the _exact_ same problem too, but in Vista x64. I don't know why WMDC can be such a c**t sometimes, as I have never been able to 'sync' with my Media Center PC.
My only saving grace is that my laptop has Bluetooth, and syncing works great on it. I have never had success connecting the USB cable (with many options changed around of course) to either of these computers. Only Bluetooth syncing works for me...
Hopefully we can find the answer!
What USB cable are you using??? the one that came with Xperia??? Cos the one that came with my Xperia never worked out of the box, it could only charge...
I also got another extra cord which came in another box, that worked fine for both syncing and transferring data until today, now it says USB device not recognized, maybe I was trying the flash X1 with new ROM through SEUS, did the whole lower volume key and power button to get the 3 strips.
Now I am using the USB cable that came with my external HDD, that's currently working, hopefully it won't fail me.
so any ideas??? I don't want to keep changing cables...

T-Mobile MDA Vario III won't sync

Recently I'm unable to sync my Vario III with my Vista x64 or Windows XP Pro desktop PC's. I don't sync often - last time was in March which worked fine.
At first I thought the problem was with WMDC on my Vista PC. I uninstalled WMDC re-installed, but it's made no difference.
The symptoms i'm getting are that when I start WMDC with the phone connected sing USB, I get the splash screen, then it sticks and goes no further. WMDC will start only if the phone is not connected.
If I plug it into the XP Pro PC, Activesync 4.5 starts, the animated ball spins in Activesync, but doesn't complete.
I think the problem is with the phone rather than either WMDC or Activesync, as I can start Pocket Controller on Vista and see the phone, and I can connect to the phone using Co-Pilot Central to download speed camera updates.
The last thing I did was to the phone was install Google apps like Youtube mobile and Search. Can these interfere with Activesync and WMDC? I've removed them but it still won't connect.
I've tried changing the USB connection type from advanced to normal, but that didn't fix it.
I get the usual windows sounds upon connection and disconnection, but WMDC doesn't work.
One clue here. If I set a password to protect the phone, upon connection, the phone locks and the PC says to unlock the phone. I type the password on the phone to unlock it, but the PC sits there with the same message to unlock the phone. So WMDC sees the phone up to a point.
I've also removed the partnerships from both the phone and the PC's, but neither WMDC or Activesync detect the phone as a new device. Activesync on the phone shows no errors.
I've tried everything I can think of and am still convinced it's a phone problem. I've searched for similar problems on XDA but haven't found anything similar.
Sorry for the long post!
Any ideas?
Thanks
Mike

Yes. Made no difference. Didn't see how it could really - since apps like Pocket Controller and CoPilot Central can see the phone.
I've had many activesync/WMDC problems over the years but never one quite like this. It wouldn't be so bad if it gave an error message or something, but it doesn't. There's nothing related in the event log either.

Woops. How did I miss it. There is something in the event log.
'Windows Mobile-based device failed to connect due to communication (0x80072745) failure (see data for failure code).'
I tried looking up the code using the Event Log Online Help but it has '...no additional information at this time'.
Oh well. At least I've got something to Google.
I figured it out. It was the device - the MDA Vario III.
My girlfriends phone - Palm Treo Pro - connects ok to the Vista PC on her account. WMDC worked fine with it. I plugged in my Vario III whilst still logged into her account, and WMDC wouldn't work.
I tried it on my account one more time, still wouldn't work. Reset the phone to factory defaults, re-configured it, connected it to the Vista PC, and WMDC worked fine.
I have no idea why it wouldn't work right before. In all other respects the phone was fine.

Active sync in windows 7 ??

Hi, I have install windows 7 rc , and i cant have my contacts in diamond to sync with outlook. It seems active sync is not compatible with win7 . Is there a solution ? Thanks ,
in win 7 is no active sync... you have to use mobile device center
hi
this works for me on windows 7 you can download it from here
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-download.mspx
When you connect your diamond to win7, it will automatically download drivers and mobile device center . To get Outlook is your own responsibility. You probably have a 30 day trial version on one of the disks that followed your phone, but it will still sync after those 30 days.
EDIT: I have no clue wether the trial version works in win7 or not.

I also have internet to diamond throw the pc. The phone is recognized by the pc as Touch Diamond P3700, and i have the icon of sync sender in taskbar. What I dont have? The one i am interested more.. My contacts to outlook to pc.. I have installed office 2003 to the pc , and i have outlook 2003. There , contacts are empty.
I dint see to Windows Mobile Device Center to have any option to transfer contacts from phone to outlook.. Any help ?
edit... Ok I just solve it. I went mobile device settings-change content sync settings. In contact there a press sync settings ,and there it writes synconize from Pc1 Pc2. Only one was "ticked" I tick and the other , and contacts went to my pc... Very complicated i think..
Hi, I'm on Windows 7 64 bit build 7100. Trying to get my phone to sync, have installed WMDC 6.1 64 bit version, plug my Diamond in and Windows Update fails on trying to install the driver, just get PocketPC USB Sync in Device Manager with a status of "This device cannot start (Code 10)."
Any ideas where I am going wrong on this? Had no issues on Vista 64bit getting it to work, have repeated all the same steps so am scratching my head somewhat.
Edit: Solved it, turns out it was my USB extension lead, tried plugging directly into the computer and it worked perfectly lol

I think I have researched all the treads on this pretty well now & I've tried all the above including rolling back to before I 1st allowed the WDM to install to no avail. I still can't get my Diamond talking to W7 WDM still talks to my old Vista Ult machine though.
Everything looks good the updater downloads drivers then the WDM then the installs happen the device gets found and it sort of knows its a HTC device plugged into a USB port but WDM and Sync Center both don't believe its there.
I've tried resetting the Diamond complete reboots of the computer, I've changed all settings in the PC to USB menu on the Diamond (another thread) and this only changes the Device from Generic Serial to Generic NDIS but still WDM won't connect.
So has anyone got any further suggestions I can't believe its this hard every one else has no probs what might I be doing wrong (I think the fact the device is a Generic Serial not a Diamond might be a hint but I can't prove it)

You can use Microsoft Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1. It's free to download by MS.

Thanx alot people! This thread saved my day!
WMDC does not recognize my G1. He detect that there is a unidentified device and searching the driver to web but after a minute it was NOT successfully installed. How come? LOL.
