Manila 2.5 BETA with standard WinMo messaging? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile ROM Development

I LOVE the new Manila 2.5 i think its a step in the right direction but theres a problem.
The messaging application with it is riddled with bugs i am persistently having to soft-reset in order to sort it out. At the moment im working around problems by always creating a new SMS when i need to send them but its extremely awkward.
So heres the question, is it possible to cook a ROM with the standard WinMo messaging application instead of the new Manila 2.5 one?
Can i get a show of support and if its possible maybe we can see some/a Manila 2.5 ROM with standard WinMo messaging app.
P.S. If im cluttering up this forum and this should be somewhere else move it/lock it and tell me

I never tried it. But I think they might be dependent on each other.

I am by no means a chef and dont know much about that side of things but i would think it was possible.

If they are dependent on each other, then no. Unless we use a patched version of 2.5, but then the functionality wont be the same.

I do not think they need each other to work. HTC Message works well with no TF3D or TF3D2.1 so I am guessing arcsoft will work with 2.5
I have not had a chance to try it yet but it is on my list so I will soon.

There is already a solution for this ...
I use the Energy Rom Genesis with 2.5 Manila WM 6.5
After that I followed this little tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556614&page=1
I SMS trough the WM SMS function, without using the HTC software for it...

A little confused, will 6.5 overwrite TouchFlo?

Had a quick search and couldn't see any obvious answer to this...
Aware of the ability to disable Touchflo 3D and have the WM6.1 interface on the frontend, I'm wondering whether the same will work with 6.5. Will TouchFlo 3D2 be compatiable with 6.5?
I understand that 6.5 may negate the need for Touchflo3D itself, but I'd quite like the flexibility to switch back to the interface I partly chose the Diamond2 for.
Thanks!
yes u can switch back and forth
I beleive we will have to see what HTC will do. Maybe an all new interface. Till the phones start shipping with 6.5 u really cant say. In the end though its up to the cooks to add TF3D to a 6.5 coocked Rom. Somebody correct me if im wrong.

HTC must be holding back on something since they provided no config options in the initial Topaz 6.1 TF3D release. Maybe they thought it was a waste of time because people will give up on TF3D once 6.5 is out?
Maybe they wanted to focus on the 6.5 integrated TF3D solution?

What's with the manila rotation?

Why did it suddenly disappear from all the ROMs?
Even Rota's has only photo and music rotation, AFAIK
Landscape on LEO manila 2.5 is not fully implemented by HTC, the cooks are unable to fix that. Only the photo and music tab supports it at the moment.
If you need landscape, there's a CAB for landscape SMS in Leo or go for a manila 2.1.
I'm sorry, but how many times have people been over this? HTC didn't implement landscape mode into Manila 2.5, except for Music and Photos tab. And even then, it ONLY works with phones that have a G-Sensor, so not the X1.

So it's an issue that came with the 2.5? I know I'm looking dumb but I want to fully understand this and I suppose there are others like me that are confused.
It was in 2.1 but not in 2.5? We should wait for HTC to do that?

As for G-Sensor, G-Spot should cover that but there still remain all the other tabs.
In the end, is patience the answer of my problems?
HTC ONLY does Manilla rotation for its keyboarded devices.... so until there is a release of Manilla for a Leo Pro, they'll be no oem rotation in the latest Leo builds of Manilla.
IMO, just another reason to ditch inefficient Manilla for either PointUI, or SPB

It's not an issue. It simply isn't supported. There isn't any need for it yet, as the HTC HD2 (Leo) doesn't have a slide out keyboard. So there is no need for a landscape home screen really. There is landscape support on the music and photo tabs, as some people may like to browse their photos and music that way.
When/if HTC decide to put Manila 2.5 on a Pro device with a keyboard, then we might see landscape mode for the other tabs. As of yet, there is nothing, and there will be nothing until HTC make it so.
It is not a bug, it is not an issue. HTC didn't make it yet, as the HD2 doesn't need it.
the interesting point is that I still can not find a ROM with manila 2.1 which has no bug .... because it's very important for me to be able to rotate the screen in manila ....
energy ROM has some bug with sms botton ... I've got really confused ....

Tell me about getting confused, there are several roms with 2.1 manila that has full support on landscape, if it didnt have, then the cook hsa done a error (unlikely) or its disabled by the cook (rather unlikely too)
But a bugfree rom will only be a reality in your dreams im afraid, cause there is no such thing. Not from us, or HTC nor SE..
I have not tested other chefs roms in here with manila 2.1, but mine sure do have landscape

Which ROM did you try?
I´ve had at least 3 which are stable - and if there is something you might perceive as a bug, it is often related to another application and/or setting I did or had to do myself.
There are quite a few Manila 2.1 based ROM´s today which you can try, with WinMo 6.1 or even 6.5 "underneath".
BTW, the worst ROM I ever had was the stock ROM. Shame on SE.

thanks for your answer ... yes I just found several ROMs with manila 2.1 and there is no problem with rotation ... but for example one of them use a lot of RAM (60%) , one of them has some problem with sms ...
for this reason I overlook manila 2.5 ... and I think energy ROM up to now is the best choice ...

Stable ROM with Win 6.5.1 and Manila 2.5

So....
I have a TP2 ( RHO100 ) and I have the stock WWE rom from HTC with WM6.5 installed but now the the HD2 is out I've seen videos of it with the new Manila 2.5.
And I have fallen in love with the wdiget home screen and new fully screen weather animations. I am also very interested in the ability to have threaded SMS.
I have tried doing some searches for ROMs that contain the new manila 2.5 but I am not sure which one would be best. A lot of them seem to make their own preferential upgrades, or they removed parts to make them faster, but I am a little wary they may cut out things that I want.
Can anyone recommend a ROM that is as close to the stock as possible, whilst just upgrading to WM6.5.1 and Manila 2.5, with all the original stuff. I'd like to customise my taskbar etc myself rather than have it chosen for me...
What can you guys recommend?
That's a good question. I don't know if a total stock ROM exist with 6.5.1/3 and Manila 2.5.
Give it a try

Can I also back this question, that is exactly what I am looking for.
Hi,
My experience...
I have tried many roms (energy, athineos, josh's, fusion...) and first, I think, you have to decide if you want:
- windows mobile 6.1(very old), 6.5, 6.5.1 or 6.5.3. There are separates into 2 categories (6.1 and 6.5 / 6.5.1 and 6.5.3). The most difference I have noticed is that the button "Start" is on the top left corner or at the bottom of the screen.
- manila 2.1 or 2.5. The version 2.5 is most recent but there are many bugs for the landscape mode. It doesn't work for many tabs. But it is the best of both version. The version 2.1 is working fine.
After, for all roms I have tried, every times I have some bugs. Often there are very very minor problems (example: bugs with the lock screen, freeze, slow performance...) and to solve them I just have to soft reset the phone. I think it depend of your provider, rom radio, utilization of your phone: bluetooth with headset, software you use...
You must also choose the design you prefer.
Testing is the best way to find your best rom.
Very big thinks to all chief who work hardto create these roms.
I hope it can help you and you can read my bad english;-).
Bye.

Vinsyl, thanks very much yes, elab is right, you make some good points.
However, may I digress...
I have already done a lot of investigating into the differences between the builds....
- I mentioned that I want to see 6.5.1 because it's more stable and more importantly has threaded SMS, which is what I'm after more than anything.
- It's only 6.5.3 from what I can tell which has moved the start menu to those silly blobs at the bottom.
- After research I also came to the conclusion that it Manila 2.5 was heavily buggy in pre-release, especially in landscape mode..... however, having now seen a full release on the HD2 and I'm guessing working in full landscape mode with all it's own apps, I was guessing that one of the CHEF's will have had a chance to rip Manila 2.5 out of the HD2 and whack it in a TP2 rom.
So Remember, I'm not looking for a STOCK rom, that comes from HTC. I'm looking for a Stock ROM base, cooked up to WM 6.5.1 with a seasoning of Manila 2.5 and no further additives. Is there a chef willing to try something so CRAZY?!

6.5 does threaded SMS. (it's the first thing I turn off though, I hate it) You will need a tweak program to enable / disable, sometimes the cook will provide something built in. (sometimes in Start -> Settings -> System menu there is a "Threaded SMS" icon, otherwise use Rhodium Tweak Tool or HD Tweak one of those will do it)
And 6.5.1 has the "silly blobs at the bottom" same as 6.5.3
If you want start menu at the top you want 6.5 (or 6.1 I suppose). Also if you are looking for STABLE you want 6.5.
6.5.1 / 6.5.3 are from leaked Microsoft BETA code and therefore aren't really designed to be stable, of course you may find they are stable for you, I used to run a 23064 (one of last 23xxx builds with start menu at top) EnergyROM and it was awesome. Also with the build numbers, a general rule is 21xxx is 6.5, 23xxx is 6.5.1 and 28xxx is 6.5.3. But there is a better post you may want to search for regarding this, goes into more detail if you are interested.
Good luck in your quest

otherwise, as mentioned it could be worth trying some of the established 6.1 touchflo roms and just disable touchflo. 'pctech4u' and 'touch x' come to mind. check out the rom library, ther might be more
I am on an own-cooked ROM which I can upload for you, or anybody else.
WM6.1 build 21051, no manila, no panels, some little apps that are useful for me and some selected HTC staff like enlarge start menu, volume control, FM-radio etc
I am using it for the last 2 months and it's very fast and stable. Perfect for SPB MS users.
I cannot provide any support though. No much time. Normally you won't need any.

2 problems with custom ROM's worked-around: SMS intercept and Exchange certificate

I'm not sure how much this may or may not apply to others but I thought I'd share my experience.
Prior the Pure, I had a Treo 850/Pro, which worked great out of the box with my exchange server and PhoneFusion's visual voicemail app.
Well, neither worked with either the Pure ROM nor a few cooked ROM's.
After some hunting, I've got both satisfactorily licked.
The problem, as has been otherwise identified, with SMS interception interfering with programs that need to intercept them is Manilla. By using TiGER's 28011 clean, I am able to have all the new style with the programs that I like to use. No matter how pretty it is, sucks if I can't use the things that I need to.
Regarding exchange, for some reason I didn't have any intermediate certificates when using custom ROM's. I was able to export a similar certificate as the intermediate one on my Treo from IE 7 on my PC and then was able to successfully connect with Exchange. So for anyone that tried a custom ROM and lost the ability to sync to Exchange, it might be worth looking into..
So, I'm pretty thrilled. not perfect but good enough for now
more plain English, please.... especially the 'sms interception interfering with programs that need to intercept them is Manila' part. in short, any solution you'd be willing to share?
yup, not using Manilla at all. I tried several ROM's with HTC messaging. The original Pure ROM with 2.1, Dutty's with 2.1 & 2.5, Shadowline's 28011 with 2.5, PDAViet's with 2.1. The only one that works is TiGER's clean with no HTC messaging installed at all.
Maybe SMS's could be successfully intercepted by other programs if one disabled HTC Messaging and still chose to use Manilla, but then, its like WTF...Manilla is cool because its all there, when one starts removing its parts, it loses some luster, IMHO

cool, thanks.
now why what's working (sms-wise) in manila 2.1 cannot anymore in 2.5?
do you mean that TiGER's clean version removing ONLY the HTC messaging, or the Sense/Manila altogether?
TiGER's clean ROM's are freaking clean. Absolutely minimal and only basic MS services and apps. Nothing custom, clean slate, tablua rasa if you will
the sms intercept didn't work for me in either 2.1 or 2.5. The authors of phonefusion visual voicemail also noted that it didn't work with the stock Pure ROM.
And really I'd be reticent to try the HTC messaging disbaling because it seems to be complicated and frought with issues. until HTC can make their skin plan nicer with other proggys, then I have to pass.
