You have so many posts on XDA, and you are still not sure how to HSPL your device???
In the HSPL sticky thread, the directions and instructions are crystal clear. I am not sure what else you want. It would be difficult for any one of us to re-install HSPL on our devices just for the sake of the video.
Please go through the instructions and then ask us specific questions if you have any doubts about it. If you are not clear on a word or a process (not the entire one), then ppl can guide you through it.
Once you HSPL your device, even my 2yr old can flash a ROM
Its that simple.

LOL
Some people are not very good with reading instructions, and they are more of a visual type. I guess he is having a hard time following the instructions, and he was hoping a video of "How To.." would aid him better.

Yes, It's not that i cant read, like you've said and im sure other's will agree with me that it is a lot easier for them to watch a How-To Video rather then read as you go along. i used to know how to HardSPL/Flash Rom's with my T-Mobile Dash. But I've been with Android for about a year now and forgot how to go about flashing and HardSPL'in my phone. So yes a video would be nice. i mean is it really that hard for someone to put a video camera on a trolley and record a video? lol. i would create a how-to video if i knew how to flash the TP2. lol. im here to learn just like everyone else is. Also i bought this phone without a contract so it cost me $600 bucks for the nifty gadget. it would suck to brick such a pricey phone. know what i mean?

Me too
Oh, don't get me wrong. I too bought this phone unbrand, unlocked for $650, so I am afraid to brick the damn thing. I have Elfin, and I did a hard HSPL on that and it is currently running WM65. But with this new toy, and because the cooked rom is too buggy. I decided to wait until the official ROM from HTC.

"This video has been removed by the user. ".......

I don't have my touch pro 2 yet, nor have I looked at anything to do with HSPL until I get it....which is in a day or 2, But is it the same as HSPL on TYTN 2/Kaiser? If so go to you tube... there are a bunch of how to HSPL's for it.

hahahaahhaha, you need a video for 3 steps?
-Hookup phone to computer via USB and make sure activesync is running.
-install the CAB they give you to enable the automatic install
-run the hard-spl

http://thewingster.com/howflashtp2rom.aspx this is the how to flash a rom. but it's a pic guide. if it says images are missing just click the pause button and play again.

I can see how one could be confused... Just cause we may know it, doesn't mean someone else does. I train people on a CMS every day. and sure enough I get calls for the rest of the week going over everything they were taught. ...and we have an online manual. Just cause it makes perfect sense to many people... doesn't mean it will for everyone. Take a look at the average web user....

Do you know what a browser is? perfect example
I will record a video over the weekend if I get my phone by tomorrrow, but post if you figure it out.

New guys with a lot of questions.

Hello everyone. As you can probably tell I am new to this forum. I recently bought my first PPC (Tilt) and I am thoroughly happy with my device (thus far). Seeing how I am new to this genre of phones. I decided to surf the internet to see what kind of info was available for my new toy. To make a long story short, after I surfing the internet and visiting many different forums. I noticed the XDA or XDA developers being used frequently. So I decided to do a Google search which directed me here. I must admit I am thoroughly impressed by this forum (website) and plan to be a contributing member. I have learned so much about the capabilities of my phone. You guys are really amazing. Which leads me to my problem? I am having a difficult time understanding the verbiage being used to describe the various different upgrade features being discuss on this board. All That being said I have some question I would like to ask. But first I have decided to condense my questions on one thread as to make it easier for other interested parties as well as for me to find. However feel free to direct my question or to add a link that can answer my question at your convenience as I know many (if not all) these question have been answered in other threads (sorry remember I am unfamiliar with all these new words).
1)Is there some sort of getting started manual that I can used to better understand the various different words being used on this forum?
What does flash, cooking, roms, etc mean?
2) I would like to get rid of all the ATT stuff (for a lack of a better word) that on my phone and upload all the high speed HTC stuff.
I would like to do this in hopes of increasing performance as well as to have all the programs and features that where meant for the TYTN 2. If one could list the steps or refer me to the link that could do this it would be greatly appreciated.
3)How does a person find out about the various different applications or program that are available for my phone?
This would be of great interest to me. In particularly when it comes to music and radio stations. What is the best music/media player available? What is the best program to listen to various radio stations? And what site can I use to research this stuff?
4) Lastly I am really interested in all this voip stuff (Skyp, Google talk, etc). It would be pretty cool to use the internet to make phone calls instead of paying for daytime minutes. How would one go about doing this? Am I to understand that I can used my phone exactly the same way but through the internet?
I wanted to take the time to thank those who answered my question (and those that didn’t) as well as to developer of this board.
Thank you
Bulldog1
i think if you spend some time looking through these forums you'll be able to extrapolate many of these answers.
i'm not trying to be a jerk but your questions are kind of extensive and mostly answered with a bit of digging.
sorry.

No manual - you learn from osmosis.
I am pretty new around here as well... but a long time lurker...
So - to help as much as possible - here is a quick answer to your questions:
Flashing is when you overwrite / rewrite the firmware. It is the method used to put different ROMs on your device.
Cooking is where you create a custom ROM image - so it comes customized with whatever the chef puts on it.
ROM - think of it as an operating system image that is transfered from your computer to your device.

This site is chalk full of information about these kinds of things: Kaiser is pretty new - so hit one of the other forums under XDA. Software sitting on top of the OS should be pretty standard... ;-)

Kinda. But not as well. Data connections are more prone to dropping than voice calls.
It is cheaper to call internationally though... ;-)
So if you have a good connection and you aren't moving... it is a great alternative.

yeah, a glossary of terms would be great. as I read more it makes more sense and I find myself searching some of the terms online. be nice to have somewhere with meanings of WWE, SPL etc mean.
Welcome to the board. I would recomend reading all the wiki's that are stuck in each section and also the search button will bring many many threads on all the questions you have asked. Try this one to get you started. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser Good luck

I'm in the same boat as you. I read through the posts here and found them really helpful, especially the stickied ones about flashing ROMs.
The best way to get rid of the AT&T stuff is to flash your ROM. Flashing your rom to the HTC-rom will wipe the AT&T bundled software and replace it with the set that comes with the TyTn II (although no TomTom).
I've been trying to find answers to some of your questions too (especially where to find good software and media players), so I'm looking forward to replies from the older members.

Welcome to the forum, i am also new. As to your question of what is the best media player, it is TCMP, it plays almost everything (even .flv files!) but support has been discontinued because the ppl made it a commercial product...mind you very tech savy ppl are still continuing support for it and adding codecs and stuff.
to download it and some codects, go to this website:
http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/ht...cial-hybrid-media-player-all-codecs-here.html
Hope that helped
Thank you. I can understand that some question may too broad to answer in this thread. I understand that alot of my question are answered in other threads and for this I appologies.
The the reason I ask those question is becuase I do not understand the language being used. I have read (reread) the stinky under the kaiser upgrades tabs but still do not understand what exactly it is saying (or what it is supposed to do).
While I agree most of my other questions can be answered in other threads it would be of great help to me if someone could explain in greater detail to me my question number 2 which I have reprinted below.

You guys are great, I can see a sprite of sharing and helping in this forum. Again, you guys are the best, especially thanks to Daniel.
I bought a Chinese unlocked version Kaiser in Hong Kong, and I found out that it is not that convenience to me even though I can read Chinese. With Chinese Windows, it runs very slow. I decided to flash the ROM with HTC standard English ROM.
However, because of warranty issue, I need to backup the Chinese OS ROM, and restore it to its original setting if in case I have to take it back to HTC for repairing.
I am totally new to PPC or WM devices (I used to be a Palm lover), I wonder if anyone of you can tell me how to "Backup" and "Restore" the ROM. Detail instructions will be highly appreciated.
Sorry for my stupid questions, but I really don't know how. Whether I get the instructions or not, YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!

"first things first" for newbies sticky, thread, etc.?

So my Tilt is practically brand new, & I have used it like three times so far. The only things I've done is order (most) of the accessories that I'll (at least initially) need for it. But as far as how it runs or operates, it's bone stock & brand new.
What should I do to it first?
What r.o.m. / firmware should I run?
What should I remove & what should I add?
Is there any sort of a "first things first" for newbies sticky, thread, etc.?
Would it help if I told you guys what I want it to do & how I want it run?
Or is this generic enough in nature so that's not necessary?
Thanks in advance for all your help, guys.

Why do so many first time posters ask what ROM to run? It strikes me as kinda like buying a new GM car, driving it out of the showroom, straight round to the service dept and asking them if the engine is good enough, or should you rip it out and chuck a Ford engine in.
Knowing what you need it to do/ run is helpful as I doubt my needs are the same as your, so any advice I, or anyone else gives, on mods, tweeks etc won't necesarily meet your needs. To give you an idea, my last phone was the HTC Universal, I changed from a WM5 to a WM6 ROM. I lost video call, and the device wasn't as stable, but I had to do that in order to get the device to do one particular thing (pair with my bluetooth carkit using RSAP). If it wasn't for this, I would have left the stock ROM in the thing.
You say you've used it 3 times so far. Personally, I would use it a while longer, see if there is anything you don't like then have a look around the forums to see if there is a fix. Whilst your doing that, have a look around the forums anyway to see if there is anything you like the look of. One of the mods I made to my Kaiser was installing the upgraded camera CAB. I hardly use the camera and this was a kind of 'just for the hell of it' mod. The rest of my Kaiser is stock, same ROM, same Radio as it was supplied with, its fine just the way it was designed. Give it a month of use, list what your not happy with, then see if there is something that will shorten that list.
I totally agree with Steve-C.
This is what you need to do, and in the order that you need to do it:
Play with your device to get to know it.
Read the manual
Play with your device to get to know it.
Read the wiki
Play with your device to get to know it.
Read the forums
Play with your device to get to know it.
After you have completed these steps, you will know the answer to everything you asked... and if not, then post specific questions.

you must be one of those people who dont know what google is. search engines were designed for this exact thing
There are instructions all over this Kaiser forums. But you'll find most here insist that you read on your own because changing bootloader and flashing ROM is not entirely risk free. You need to read through and through all the materials you can find and decide whether it is worth you time, effort, and most importantly risk.
I just flashed mine this past Thursday and it took a few hours to get everything just right. (Well, actually I'm still messing around with it.) You need to decide whether you "enjoy" spending your time tinkering with the phone. If not, you are better off staying with your current OS.
Put it this way, if you are not even willing to invest time to research, you will most likely brick your phone. I don't think you want that.

I have found after about a week of reading that everything is here, just have to have a some basics things, and learning skills
1) Patience (tweaking, Flashing, cooking burning is not a speed skill, but rather an mind skill..while not generally a patient person, i know that is the only way to learn and make the info i found work!)
2) Cab file installer type person does not = ROM flash type person ( I like my cab files though, they are like xmas morning when i was 8, anxious to see what i got )
3) I never learned any lasting skill from saying to others "how do I....." conversely, I have learned a lot by saying to myself, "this should work by doing this, ohh wait...that failed, hard reset...then how about this...."then searching out more info in the search icon in the upper right corner by your user name. Look at the other members "call for help" every now and then after the beloved Google cry, (which I equate to telling people at work to reboot ) you find what they did wrong so you don't have to.)
I have been on here a week, bookmarked a dozen noob threads, and saturday night said...enough reading, this Tilt is either gonna be a paperweight or on 6.5...(I had one good Tilt, and one that I mangled the KB ribbon cable changing the screen a second time, so I only use onscreen KB for it so I wasn't really that brave can you guess which one i flashed?? )
Now enough preachy stuff, try doing some searching on "Noob Flashing" or "Flashing for dummies" (I have done these searches myself here in XDA, while in life i am not stupid, on here I am both a "noob" and a dummy.... but not for long!
NOTE: if you cannot live with out a phone and this is your only cell phone you may want to think about just finding some cab files, search on "Skins" or manilla 2d was pretty cool....but I do not think you will find a cab file that will get you to WM6.5
Good Luck, hope to hear all about your successes!
Tilt 8925 on Anryls chill WM6.5 21725

That works. But idk what you're trying to do...
That ROM is a stock ROM for the HTC Hero....
It can't be flashed on other devices like our Raphaels.
Sorry,
dwizzy130
I saw somewhere on one of the many ppc news sites that they had a working hero port to touch pro.
I'm guessing it was either someone that redid touchflo as I saw something about someone completely redoing it,
otherwise it's an android port with hero interface.
I have no idea where its located, but it is in beta stages as they're trying to get a few more things working.
I don't have the bookmark anymore either unfortunately because my computer crashed not too long ago and I lost them all. :/
I'm sure the original poster had no intentions of bricking someone's phone, I would never load a random ROM on my device from a brand new poster, though. Also, honestly, this kind of thing belongs on the ROM board, not here in the SW board.
No offense is intended. You might be the greatest ROM developer of all time, Gaza-god, but until I can see some evidence of your work, I would NEVER load it to my expensive-as-hell phone and risk it on your recommendations alone. I recommend the same caution to any newbies here....and codybear, you should be exercising more caution, as well...

Thanks for your help. When ever time allows is fine. No rush.
I don't have enough posts to add an external link. If you go to youtube and search for Albert Wertz you will see his page. There are a number of videos there that show how to make a bootable SD card and root your nook tablet, etc. As I said it was great to watch the video and then refer to it as I went through the install. I was able to root my Nook Tablet with out issue and then return it to stock when I handed it down to a family member.
If you did this for the Nook Tablet then the procedure is practically the same. Plus, doing it this way makes it practically impossible to brick your device.

To help you become a functional member of the community. The things you are trying to do a fairly simple even for the none technical minded people. When you can help yourself you can then go on to help others and make XDA-Developers an even better place to be.
However, if you feel the need to just be a leech on the community then I will stop trying to point you in the right direction. I'm fine either way.

I think what he was trying to say is, sure there are visual people like you who want videos, but realize it is a lot of work to make those. Certainly more work than it would take you to read it for yourself. But I understand that it would help some and I applaud datas0ft for volunteering.
I think he is reacting to some folks, not necessarily you, that demand that kind of effort of others as if it were a right.

I appreciate what you are saying and can certainly see your point. That is why I asked if there was a video anyone knew of and did not ask anyone to make one for me. When someone said "I can do it" I said thanks and no hurry. I don't want to put anyone out. I fully understand folks like yourself create these packages because you like doing it. If people continually bother you without even trying to troubleshoot or do any research at all it can become no fun at all.
I do think that a simple video will head off a number of those requests for support. Especially for folks like me that are somewhat competent but not very confident.
I see your name on quite a number of things in the forums and many people have referenced your work. It is obvious that you put in a lot of time here and to your work. Thanks for your contributions and interest.
I'm not forgot that i promised make video. And i do it, but there is right now some reasons why this not done yet:
1. That i got very busy time at work (my 12 devices are not mine) and i dont bring any device to home
2. That making this type guide video is multipart action [capturing video on windows (need clean install win, installing drivers and etc soft), capturing video with external cam (attaching nook and how then win acts and etc) <- same with Linux, also maybe running on VM linux and installing adb and etc].
3. Some things are changed radically (just rooting, CM install on SD, Hybrid and etc etc)
Anyway. I started making first video and i hope soon it (very beginning step) will be available.

Thanks very much. There is no rush. When ever you have time is just fine. Everyone has things to do.
