Anyone know of a case that doesn't hold the keyboard? And, hence no magnets? Just want to carry the main device by itself in the smallest possible volume.

i search for something similar (didn't wanna start a new thread).
i'm looking for a case that can hold the device itself and the keyboard in two different pockets within the same case (can be a totalyl closed case, where you have to pull out the athena like the universal pda case from pielframa, but with two pockets). plus it has to have a very solid belt clip and should be as small as possible.

Well im looking for a Skin similar to whats available for Ipods and various other phones out there.
Just want it for the Screen and not the keyboard. So at least the screens protected whilst in my pocket.
Any help would be appreciated as this is the only niggle i have at the moment!

If I understand you right tomchap, I'm looking for the same thing...a silicon skin for the main unit (preferably with a hard clear plastic cover for the screen). That would make the Athena slim enough to fit in most of my pockets and stop and serious scratches or damage to the device.
Have been looking too....something like this but in better quality in various colours.

Ive looked everywhere, even the usually most reliable eBay and theres hardly anything available for the Ameo.
Loads of screen protectors but thats about it.

Rucksack case for Athena without keyboard
Am also looking for a case, but a reasonably weatherproof one that I can attach to my rucksack shoulder strap to hold the Athena when I am outdoors using it for digital mapping. I have the perfect one for my Hermes but am going to test the Athena to try the larger screen.

Both excellent suggestions, thanks very much. I ended up with the Pouch 20 because I like the fit better and it is thinner, therefore easier to carry on my rucksack. Took it out for a test ride yesterday. Both case and Athena digital mapping worked great.

If its the case I've got then the 'pouch 20' is an all in one case designed for digital cameras and similar size units. I bought mine online from jessops here in the United Kingdom.
If I am wrong and this is NOT the case 20 talked about then forgive & sorry.

How did you managed to put the U1000 inside ?

BTW, i saw something similar, but since it is 'zipper', it is quite hard to take out/in without scratching the unit.

Nice! Thanks for the post. I can't wait to see if it will be designed to allow you to continue to connect the keyboard to it. An option of sorts. The only negative I can think of is that it'll stick to your pocket when you try to put it in there and take it out. Same thing happens to my iAudio MP3 player with its silicone case. Maybe they'll have a belt clip for it!!!

I have now found the Lowepro MX 20 case to be the best solution for hooking to a rucksack while riding (see http://www.parkcameras.com/ProductD...roogle/productID/827/groupID/5/categoryID/20) and available in many shops on Tottenham Court Rd. I have added some waterproofing but not yet tested it in very wet weather since the weather has been pretty good these past weeks. I used the Pouch 20 in serious wet weather without waterproofing and found that it did not stay dry inside. I have decided that in very wet weather I will transfer the Athena to a small WXtex waterproof bag I found in an outdoor store.
So did anyone locate some sort of casing just for the device.Out of curiousity

for the large dimensions of athena I found this case:

hours do outdoor compegpsland with the program and is wonderful to see the map raster in the large screen!
or mountain trekking i'll use a simple air tight sealed bag, that sells cheaply, those works better than the hard cases
and bring a log a Solar power charger, or any manual crank torch with charging capability.
for skiiing.... i'll never bring it, don't want to break it, for those ocasions, i usually fall back to my cheap Sony phones.

I had contacted Nutshell regarding a customized Horizontal Case (black) that will fully enclosed the HTC Advantage X7510 with the leather pouch included about 2 months ago. I was able to get intouch with Ian Miller and was basically received with open arms. I was asked to submit my design and the dimensions.
The dimensions are: 5.8 inches (lenght) x 4.4 inches (height) x 1.30 inches (depth).
It is closed by a velcro flap that fully covers the top of the case preventing any accidental exposure to the elements.
The back of the case has the D ring and metal belt clip lined with leather. But in all honesty, I think it would have looked better if the metal clip was left without the leather strip cover. It would looked nicer if the silver finish of the metal clip was shown rather than hidden.
But all in all, the case is very well made. The stitches and cuttings were done right and very clean. The case will protect the X7510 and it's leather pouch while having the ability to clip it to your belt or trousers on the go.
I paid $95.00 for the case, but it may become cheaper if it will be popular.
I have attached pictures for you guys and gals to check. I believe NUTSHELL will mass produce them if the demand is high enough.

Very well taken pictures indeed. Looks like real good quality pouch. Is it made to custom sizes? I normally carry my device without the keyboard, so it is quite a bit thinner and smaller. What would be the total cost shipped to Australia?
Also, a question for cktlcmd. Currently, I have a soft pouch, and taking it out is easy, as I can squeeze the soft pouch to push out the device. With a hard leather one, I imagine it is not easy to squeeze the bottom to force the device upward, so one would have to lift it up. Would that be easy? Or would the device be too slippery for that, even that I carry it naked?

In my case, since it also houses the X7510 with keyboard and the leather case, it is not slippery at all. It is easy to grab it on top and just pull it out. The case itself is not made of really hard leather plus it is lined inside with felt like skin to protect the device from being scratched by the case itself. The technique I use to get it out fast is to pull on top and press each sides of the case because that is where I notice the greatest hold on the device occurs.
In your case, since you will probably want Nutshell to adjust the measurements to accommodate just the device, it won't even be a problem because of the soft felt lining, it will just slid easily in and out.
It trully is a nice case. I wish they had designed it like this from the start.

This is a bit off-topic, but personally I find the HW keyboard to be the ultimate screen-protector and would not dream of leaving home without it (even though I use my Advantage in portrait-mode 95% of the time).
On-topic again I would guess that one could use any case made for the 7510 WITH keyboard as this unit is just a bit thinner than the original 7500/7501.

No. The keyboard is the most effective way to ruin your device with scratches. Take it away if you want your unit to look new all the time. If you really must have the keybaord, put a piece of cloth between the unit and the keyboard to prevent them from rubbing against each other.
We have different experiences then eaglesteve. I have used my HTC X7500 for well more than a year with the original book cover (with the 3 clips) and have only miniscule scratches on the keyboard itself, not on the main unit.
I now also have the Piel Frama Case (since a month ago) and with this case it would be even more difficult to scratch the unit with the keyboard.
And even if this was NOT the case I would much rather have endured a scratch or two than having my screen broken due to a fall or pointed item pressing against it (even in the pouch). The solid steel of the keyboard over the screen gives me an ease of mind I will not trade for the sake of a marginally smaller "package" to carry around.
And now, with the vertical Nutshell-Pouch I hope to enjoy my Advantage X7500 for a long time since no better device (for my needs) seems forthcoming from HTC or any other manufacturer.

Keeping the keyboard as a screen protector is a non-issue, just make sure the screen faces towards your body when its in a pouch, or in a pocket. On the weekends I leave my Nutshell and the keyboard at home, and just face the screen towards my leg in my pocket.

This case is nice! But I always wanted a case that would allow me to hold my X7500 without the keyboard,so it would look like a slim and supersized-screen IPOD! That I can put into my pocket easily..like an IPOD.

Hey Guys, just like to share my experience with buying a nice flipcover which meets my needs. First I bought the original Samsung Flipcover. It looked really cool and flat, but there were no magnets built in. So the cover just opend up when turned over. Also both of the flip-stand functions were very unstable. They were hard to etablish and you can't really use the touchscreen because the whole construction just collapsed when I touched the Screen. So the value for money ratio was plain unworthy of discussion.
So I ended up buying the IVSO Cover: amazon.de/gp/product/B00CWPILDE/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers
I chose it because of the good reviews and the mention of magnets. The first shipment got lost, but after a short email contact with the vendor I recieved the second within 2 days.
The first impression is very good. It's a very good quality and the color was as expected. I chose the blue one, because it is the only one with white backcover. Any other color seems to have a black backcover, but I don't know this for sure. The Flipcover needs some bending in the first place because it is kinda stiff out of the box and the stand-functions needs a flexible flipcover. But after some usage the stand function works really fine. There is a magnet for closing the cover and one for the stand-function. Once put in the stand it is very stable. I even use the high angular stand in bed and still can use the touchscreen and it does not collapse.

Guys, has anyone used a 3rd party stylus on an android phone. Need to buy one for my OP3. Primary use is to mark edits on photos, write comments and hopefully to make simple designs.
I'd like it to be under $10. Or is that too low?
OP3 doesn't have hardware stylus support, so you'll have to use something that "simulates" finger - meaning big tip. Either a rubber ball point or a plastic plate. Rubber ones are cheaper (you gen get those for as low as 1$), but they're really not any better than your finger. Styluses with plastic tip are slightly better because the tip is translucent so you see exactly where you're pointing at. But they're also more expensive. I got myself a DAGI Stylus (forgot model name) a few years ago. Works with any and all touchscreens, costs about 20$ (actually there were 2 styluses in the box - normal pen sized and a tiny narrow one + some spare tips).
Keep in mind that it still won't be much more accurate than a finger, you simply need special hardware for that (like Galaxy Note series and some tablets have).
