Desktop Cradle? - HD2 Accessories

Hi All - Early days yet, but has anyone spotted any 'desktop cradles' that also act as a charger for the Leo. I'd like mine to sit on my desk at work - so that everyone gets a good view of it!
What would be even better would be if it had the facility to hold a second battery on charge. I've got one for my Kaiser, but it's unbranded and I can't recall where I bought it.

I guess you could use the car kit (here) though that seems a little expensive. Haven't seen any dedicated stands, but I guess they will come when it's actually released...

According to one of the bigger mobile webshops in Sweden the HTC CR G300 cradle will fit the HD2? Can anyone confirm this?

i don`t think it is a good idea, because you must replace battery cover if you want to use this kit...

I don't think so because of the mini / micro usb connector.

I second that - saw that katshing had it as a "accessory" so I mailed them and got an answer that its a misstake.
as GotBoost states, they're not compatible with each other

Here's hoping HTC will release a HTC CR G300 style cradle that IS compatible with HD2.
Eventually they will I think, since probably all new phones will use Micro-USB since it becomes the defacto standard charger connector.

The HTC CR G300 is perfectly functional, but that is its problem. With the latest HTC to covet and show off, I would like something a bit more stylish and the car kit is just that. If someone can come up with a cheaper version of the car for deskmounting, it would make changing the cover on a permanent basis a more attractive option.

Cradle HD2
I have a HD2 on order and am looking forward to it next week !
But, the cradle remains unclear. I have the HTC CR G300 with a HD and I doubt very very much that this will fit the HD2 as the photos I have seen show the USB connector as slightly offset to the right.
In my humble view the HTC CR G300 will not fit.
Now, the car kit - this looks great and I'm tempted. But, until now I have not been able to discover if this has a data channel or only power. I suspect due to its intended function in the car that there is no data channel. So, use on the desk with PC is out.
I remain open on the car kit ...

you guys are forgetting about one big difference.... hd2 has MICRO usb, not MINI usb like all other HTC phones.... so forget about cradle from hd

This.
I'm sure HTC will announce something when the phone is released around the whole of Europe.

For even greater confusing... I also got an answer from Katshing on the same topic but in that reply they say it will work (?). I doubt it really will but I still think someone should try to verify it once and for all.

it won't work, because its micro-usb (hd2) vs. the old mini-usb (older HTC devices)
micro is not the same as mini... try googling micro-usb compatibility with mini-usb

Have patience. They will surely make a desktop cradle for it. But as the HD2 uses MicroUSB, it will need to be a new one. Patience is a virtue (so they say)!

The S400 car kit is power only. Leave it to HTC to introduce their flagship phone without a desktop dock. Just stupid ...

Thanks broadview - I thought that might be the case with the car kit.
So, power only on the car kit.
And, the CR300 original HD cradle is no good as mini-USB and not micro-USB.
So, NO CRADLE yet from HTC - common chaps how about a slick cradle to go with this flagship device ?

This was exactly the same when the Touch HD was released this time last year.
As others have mentioned... just sit back and wait... it'll come.

Actually there were third-party cradles and a CR300 adapter available when the HD was introduced. I know, I bought an HD and a cradle as soon as the HD was available. That's why I call HTC the 99% percent company; they always make at least one goof with every product introduction.

Anybody have pictures of what the back of the official car cradle looks like? Always been curious as to how it "floats" and charges (does it?) without any sort of visible connection (on the pictures anyway). Either the dock has a lid which fits into the battery compartment to hold it (which means you would have to take off the battery lid to use the dock), or I'm being fooled and its a suction cup.
I would imagine the car power plug is actually just a 12v socket with a standard USB port, with an extension chord to connect to the dock. If that were the case you could just exchange the car charger for a USB charger for desktop use.
Here is another dock I found using 2 seconds of Googling.
Though it looks like one good flick and it'll fall over.

In your initial post you were talking of cradles from HTC, not 'third-party' items.
My reply was in reflect of that.

Also, (although my pair were admittedly cheaper, off-eBay), I find that these detiorate after a few weeks and can break/make for a flimsy connection.
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.45252
I bought an alternate version of this keyboard (white, not silver).
It works very well. It's pretty much the same size as an apple wireless keyboard, except made in plastic (doesn't feel super cheap though). Also contains all the windows keys -- so pgup, pgdn, home, end, and del keys are all there. And since it's not a foldable keyboard, it's a bit more reliable.
I actually like how it's plastic and can be disassembled easily. In addition, the back area (where the circuitry is) actually contains a lot of space so if the LiON battery runs out, you can easily mod it to take 2-3 AAA batteries (the internal batteries output at 3.7-4V) inside, leaving you with a bluetooth keyboard that you can operate on replaceable batteries alone.
Oh, as for the charging...you can charge and use the keyboard simultaneously. AND if you lose the charging cable, just open it up, and replace the charging recepticle with a USB port (unsolder the 2 leads, and just rip the recepticle right out, and replace with a USB port).
Easy to mod, and cheap. Good buy!

Yea so dell was super lame with not including hdmi/usb on the device itself, there's PLENTY of room to fit the connectors comfortably.
If it wasnt for the fact that the s10 uses a higher voltage to charge, everything done on the new connector could be accomplished on the s5/s7 pdmi-like connector. Even then the charging part is unnesscerry, as all other 10.1" tabs can charge fine though high-capacity usb chargers.
It features a HDMI connector, a USB-A female port, and a dock connector pass though to charge. It costs ¥299, which is approx $47 USD, which is really expensive for something that coulda been built into the device. But I assume most buyers knew this beforehand before buying.
Honeycomb should fully support HDMI/USB out of the box, so there shouldnt be anything to configure. Hopefully it will operate without requiring external power, which is almost forgivable since if you're going to attach it to a tv one extra box wont be a huge deal.
I am considering buying one myself since I'm in it for the long haul, but it's hard to overlook how lame dell was with this. I cant offer much advice to anyone else interested in importing, I'm going to go though my friend same as when my s10 was imported.
I do not believe there are any other accessories planned, the only thing missing vs the pdmi-like connector on the s5/7 is line out, which the s10 may not even support.
A lot of this criticism is also valid for the s7 though, it requires the hdmi dock to do anything, even though it could have been fitted with a microhdmi connector or usb host connector. The multimedia dock's launch MSRP was about $50 also, so they're both on par with pricing of additional connectivity.

I think that the S7 also provides a higher charge than normal USB. EDIT: That is why one cannot use it and charge from a computer. I think the S7 charger is 2mA.
The s7 can charge from [email protected] 500mA-2000mA, though only meaningfully at 1000-2000mA, or 2.5-10W.
the s10 charges at 19v @ 1580mA or 30W.
I've seen the s7 'charge' from 500mA while the screen is off, it just takes 10 or so hours to do so

Sorry I'm getting a friend to have one brought back on carry-on, they'll be leaving china in a couple days and it simply wouldnt be possible to order an extra before they depart.
Just as much, bringing multiples might look suspicious, but a single can easily be explained away.

Ok. Thanks. I will try to find some other way. Only wish Dell could have designed the adapter without the short cable like this...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Ge...?pt=US_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item4cfbbe3269
The dell one has 2 ports and a passthough, it would really work out unless you wanted to get 2 seperate ones.
Personally it seems about right the way it is since it makes a good docking station setup if you get a good stand. If it was vertically down it'd be pretty difficult to have it mounted upright unless you got a very tall stand

Good point. Hope you will do a review once yours arrived. Cheers
Just recieved mine today, it's pretty great (if you ignore the fact it should have been built into the s10.
It's smaller then the picture implies, it's only slightly wider then the dock connector itself. It adds very little bulk to your kit if you carry it (in a bag or so) with your s10
W1orks exactly like you'd expect, the s10 supports usb hubs too.
Currently typing this on my tv with my s10 hooked up to it, have a usb keyboard and mouse and am currently charging my s5 off the s10 which itself is also charging off the wall.
Dell could easily make a transformer type dock for the s10 if they were inclined to. The fact that all the ports are on the bottom middle makes it extremely easy to hack together.
Only issue is that the charger is 19V which is a lot to ask from a battery.
Mini Review
As previously stated, the available ports on it are:
HDMI out
USB in
Power passthrough
HDMI Out
Works just as expected on any tegra2 device(?). It mirrors everything you see on the screen and shows it on the tv. You cant turn the tab screen off without losing your picture, but this is a limitation of the t2 itself and not the s10. (exact same thing happens on the s7)
Unfortunately some apps are not single touch friendly, such as the maps app on HC devices, you must use the screen to zoom in and out, but this is a limitation of apps and not related.
USB in
Works pretty great, plugged in a usb hub and a usb keyboard and mouse and they all worked fine. Even plugged in my S5 to charge and it works, though it's very slow as it's very underpowered. (not really surprising)
I put my s5 in usb mode and the s10 wouldnt mount. Afterwards it apparently completely corrupted my card[!]. Fortunately it had nothing irreplacable, but I dont know yet if this was a one off thing or consistant.
Power passthrough
Does exactly what it looks like it does, lets you also charge it while in use.
Overall
The box itself is pretty small, it's only slightly wider then the dock connector. The press shots dont really do it justice to how small it feels. The thing is also very light as it seems to not actually contain anything, it's merely a pass though connector.
Conclusion:
Pros:
Small
Light
Supports usb hubs
Easy way to organize cables/acts as a docking station
Cons:
Bit pricy for just a dumb passthough box
Corrupted my memory card[!](?)
Should be bundled with all new s10s and not seperate
Random trivia: PEGATRON (the manufacturer of the S10 for dell) was spun off from asustek along with asus. The Transformer was made by asus. The S10 essentially has capability of it's own version of a transformer dock. The dock connector is in the right location and exposes the needed pins for a transformer type dock to be made, were it not for the way the s10 charges. Unfortunately it is unlikely for a transformer type dock to ever be made.

Well the phone has been out for only 2 months and also considering all other sony phones (made within 2 years) have docks I would say just wait and see. The Sony Xperia SP also has micro usb to hdmi capabilities.
Here is a link on google shopping with some docking stations that may be usable

I'd advise you to search for "dock m35h" on all the Chinese sites! Though I'm in no way affiliated too DX.com; you could hit up the next link (even cheaper)!

So as always, first check if our Chinese friends have made something for you!
I have bought this same dock for my SP, bought it from ebay for 10 dollars (free shipping), Overal quality is ok, dock is very light. Docking the phone is somewhat not that easy. My phone has a total body skin (skinomi). Because of the skin the phony is a little bit to thick for the dock. I removed the inner part of the dock for a better fit. But docking the phone can sometimes be a hassle the micro usb pin on the dock is a little bit wobbly.
For 10 dollar it is ok.

New guy here, just got my SP last week. I ordered one of those docks form Deal Extreme as well, will post some pics and review when it gets here.

Hi guys.
I'm from Poland and I want to look for a Dock for my SP or make it by myself.
But. I wonder how it really work. I have seen - dont know exactly that was on SP or other android device - that system can recognize if device is connected to charger or dock station. Is there any "special" signal to do it??
TBH, I don't see the value of having a docking station; after all, the microUSB is on top left side instead of on the bottom.
I myself use a mini tripod, connecting the USB using a standard MicroUSB cable.

I myself use a mini tripod, connecting the USB using a standard MicroUSB cable.

1. You can put it on the shelf. You don't have your device to lay down always near your PC.
2. Since microUSB is on top left side I have large problem with this. When you are left handed than ok. But now I have my phone on right side of my laptop with mouse and cup of coffe. Perfect combination
3. Look pretty well.
4. You can easily use it as Photo Frame (looks awesome)
5. You can easily use it as music player (with one more small cable)
6. You can easily use it as beautiful watch
7. And once again. It looks awesome on the TV shelf, not another lay-down-anywhere-phone
rgullyt and
For me is having it upright instead of laying flat on the desk, must better to see and use. I use my SP to listen to music all day at work and a dock would be a much better solution for me. Also, you can use one on your night table as an alarm clock/nighttime charger. I ordered two but maybe should have gotten at least one more. May order another one after they arrive and I see how they work out.

I guess it won't fit the phone with a case right?

That's the one I ordered from DX but after ordering they said that it was backordered, so I cancelled my order and picked one up on eBay. Haven't arrived yet but more than likely the same unit.
From my understanding there is a removable insert in them that you take out if you have a case on the phone, is this correct Steph?

Nexus 6 Car Charger?

Anyone have a good recommendation for a car charger for the Nexus 6? I drive a lot, and need to be able to give it a quick charge.
I'm open to cheap and expensive options, I just need a good quick charger.
Well, I used the Nexus wireless charger for my N5 in my car. (Some cars support USB natively. For those that don't, any 2A Auto-to-USB -- or even better, Auto with corded microUSB -- adapter will work.) The magnets keep the N5 locked in place, so it doesn't bounce off, and there were no cables to fiddle with when placing the phone on (or taking it off) the charger. True, you had to get a bit creative if you wanted it mounted, but that usually wasn't too difficult. Personally, the N5 with charger fit perfectly in my center console, so mounting issues weren't a concern.
We'll have to see whether or not the N6 will support the magnetic mount for wireless chargers at all, and if it does, how well does it stay in place? If it works as well as the N5, then the Nexus wireless charger would be my top recommendation for a car charger.
As is posted in another thread, there are Quick Charge 2.0 certified accessories available, or will be soon.
Here is the link:

More to come, and as soon people realize its a good thing more companies will make Quick Charge 2.0 compatible chargers, power banks, car chargers etc.

Very interested in this. Ironically I could care less about quick charge at home... I always plug my phone in when I'm driving, and I work out of town so it's a lot. I wonder if using quick charge daily for am hour or so each way would hurt the phone... my phone already gets pretty hot driving with streaming music and navigation/waze.

From what I hear it could mess with the battery. I only charge to full and only when I really need power I will charge it for a short time.

Not for $30 With this battery, I can likely work all day and make it to the gym afterwards where I listen to music while working out and watch play movies/netflix while I finish up with cardio. My normal car charger will likely be fine for this.

That's actually the cheapest of the quick chargers I've found so far but yeah $30 is pushing it. I have found myself with a low charge on the OPO before where a quick charger would have been helpful. Instead I've had to use a NewTrent battery pack with it and the phone stuck in my man purse.
I use the Scosche USBC242M it's a dual port charger. Each port is 12 watts(2.4A). Its pretty fast, I believe the certified quick charge 2.0 ones are 15 watt ports.

Looks like it's a more flush fitment too, whereas the rest are much taller.
I've used some Pure-Gear cables before. They were not manufactured well at all. They were also mislabeled as to what type.
Remember everybody, if you use a 2A car charger, which now seem to be widely available, you also must use the proper cable or you won't get the full current.
This Mediabridge is my favorite charging cable:

For some reason when I tried to get the Incipio my order didn't go thru. I ended up getting the Powermod one for the same price after the Incipio coupon on Amazon.

I can vouch for the incipio car charger, acts very similarly to the turbo charger and definitely charges faster than any car charger I've personally used. Pricey, but the tradeoff is worth it
...
....
I ordered the neobits charger that was linked earlier. I like the idea of the new turbo style charger in the car. Price is deceptive because the cheapest shipping option is $14...

It works and everything but it isn't as flush mount as the design would seem to indicate. It sticks out a little which kind of annoys me. It is more minimal than any other car quick charger I have seen though so I guess it's ok.

Coming from a Nexus 4 I had gotten used to the wireless charging dock and I am looking for a similar solution. I think I might resort to some sort of DIY solution if no products are available by December. I was thinking about working with something like this as a base stand and then running another metal bar in the cradle with a permanently affixed usb type c cord. Alternatively if they have a type c cable thin enough maybe I would use something like this and just put it in the rubber part. Although I was hoping someone else here might have some better ideas
Lastly, I am also holding out hope that someone will find an easy mod for adding a wireless charging adapter to the phone that doesn't require us to sacrifice corded charging or use a case...I really just wish Project Ara would get here already...
Just got my LG Nexus 5X the other day and had the same problem locating a suitable dock with the USB Type C. After some digging, found this product on the American ebay. Go to ebay.com and paste in Search "KiDiGi Omni Charger Cradle Desktop Dock for Smartphone with Type-C Charging Port" - apologies as XDA won't allow me to post hyperlinks yet as still considered a noob.... I believe this dock is also sold in Australia.
This is luckily shipped from outside the USA, China actually, and for free which is mightily handy. I purchased the item as a Guest using my British home address and used my PayPal a/c to purchase for £16.82 GBP (there was no currency charge or commission fee as far as I can see). Hey presto!

You beat me to it. Here it is
Will that dock rapid charge being that is only 2.4A? It looks very nice, but I'd also like to retain the rapid charging. I know, I know, first world problems!
Does the model compatibility matter? I feel like they'll just ship a general one out for all models
Hopefully one of you who ordered it can do a review with pictures

It has a USB plug on the end to power it - so to me that says it doesnt have a charging unit and requires you to use one of your own. It is simply a USB-C connector in a stand.
Looks nice though. I might get one depending on other similar types I can find.

I received this dock recently, and tested it with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.mderezynski.checkr and it failed the test.
It draws too much energy from the PC, potentially damaging the USB interface (on the motherboard).

It's a passive device that doesn't draw power on it's own. The power draw you metered was what the phone was pulling based on it's supplied power. The USB ports on your machine will be fine and if any damage were to occur it would be to the phone (unlikely).

The dock is just a cable in essence, but it fails the usb-c specification, and according to Google engineer Benson Leung, cables like these should not be used at the risk of damaging the device it is plugged into, because it lacks the correct resistor.
The phone is safe as it regulates the current draw, but it's under the impression the source allows more draw than it's actually certified to produce.
As far as I know, the USB 2.0 ports on my computer weren't designed to allow 2.4 A of current draw. (The cable built into the dock however facilitates it.)
i just had my dock shipped, so I'll post a review with photos when I get it. Might be awhile, as it's shipping from China (and I'm looking forward to any reviews that you guys post).
I got a refund for this dock from Kidigi.

Why did you edit your post? S:
You said in your unedited post that it couldn't draw more than 0.5mA from a USB-A interface rated as such, yet I sit here and my dock is letting me draw 2.4A, yes it's quick charging, but it's drawing more than the PC wanted it to.

I decided not to go down that rabbit hole. You are incorrect in your post, but it's not my job to force knowledge down your throat.
For what it's worth, Everdock made me a custom adapter for a Cable Matters C-to-C cable, so I am using an Everdock with my Nexus 5X with the Google dual charger.
Remembered to snag a photo, pardon my messy desk and the dusty rubber part (the 5X camera is too good!):
