If so, can anyone link me to a proper guide?
I searched and found contradictions, some say yes, some say no....

There is no current method available to truly gain S-OFF status with HBOOT 1.16. However, that being said, you can use the HTCDEV site to unlock HBOOT 1.16 so that you can flash a custom recovery such as ClockworkMod and then flash a custom ROM. The thing to keep in mind with this solution is after you flash the custom ROM you will probably have to manually flash the boot.img file from the custom ROM using 'fastboot flash boot [path to image file]\boot.img'
There is also some thread posts about downgrading HBOOT 1.16 to HBOOT 1.13 and then you can use Revolutionary to get a true S-OFF HBOOT.

Unzip the EXT4.zip file and extract the recovery.img file to your PC. Then with your phone connect to the PC in FASTBOOT mode, type the following command:
fastboot flash recovery [path to your image file]\recovery.img
The command window on your PC should have the working directory set to where you have installed the Android SDK tools with adb.exe and fastboot.exe.

With hboot 1.54 and upwards you can no longer boot recovery before flashing the recovery.... HTC stopped this.
The correct command to flash recovery is "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"... recovery.img can be replaced by the actual recovery image filename

The Signed firmware is all you need not a whole RUU
TWRP 2.8.4.0 will work on your phone now you just have to flash it correctly
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.8.4.0-m7.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader

no .. you can flash the signed firmware for your current version or newer
easy way is to get the firmware.zip from the last OTA you installed.

stuck trying to go back to stock

Hi all,
i was s-off and unlocked and need to go back to stock.
I flashed RUU Zip M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.20.401.1_Radio_4A.13.3227.06_10.27.1127.01_release_308001_signed_2_4.zip from fastboot,
then installed TWRP and rooted, then used revone to lock boot loader, and then i did
fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
to s-on.
at this point i expected to be able to use an RUU exe to clear up the recovery and then do OTA updates.
But, the RUU fails each time with an unknown error.
So i have rooted again and attempted to s-off again with revone, but revone fails with error -1.
My boot loader screen now shows TAMPERED and UNLOCKED, and i have boot 1.43
Im not sure how to proceed. I've now got an old rom, s-on and am unable to update to anything newer.
Anyone have any ideas please?
thanks

yes 1.28.401.7 is hboot 1.44
I;ve managed to flash that RUU ok, but:-
revone still didn't work (-1 error), so I want to try to follow the instructions i was linked to above (flashing android revolution).
However, my boot loader is now RELOCKED. I've tried to unlock it again with fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_codebin and it appears to work, i.e. i get the warning screen and choose "YES" but when i reboot back into HBOOT, it's still RELOCKED>
any ideas?
