Android 2.0 Preparedness Questions - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When (and I suppose if) HTC releases an update for the Hero, will those with rooted phones be okay? Speculation has that HTC will release Android 2.0 in the near future; will our phones be compatible?
Will the device remain 'rooted'? Will the update work at all from a modified rom? Will backups created with Nandroid still work? Is the update going to be a 'flashable' image like the Nandroid backup and MoDaCo rom?

The Question that "I" Have never seen answered anywhere I have looked, is can the Hero be "Un-Rooted"

matthenry87 said:
The custom roms are made to not accept the OTA updates. Us root users will receive a modified update very shortly after the update is released that has been modified to allow root.

That's what I assumed would happen but I'm glad someone asked the question.

Yes, you just flash the Stock Sprint RUU and you will be "unrooted"

Please Help!

One quick question… if i root and install the 2.1 ROM will i still be able to update the firmware regularly through the phone’s update firmware feature under settings/about phone/system updates/firmware update?
Nope.
If you want to go to official 2.1 when its released, you'll have to go back to your stock 1.5, and then update in the settings>about>...etc. menu..
FYI. When the official update is released, the exploit used to gain root will most likely be patched, and you'll be stuck on that firmware until somebody finds another exploit.
Keyboard lags?
I'm an idiot and can't tell the difference between reply to post and new topic.

I've noticed this in other roms, too. I think it's the modified keyboard..Anyway, any ideas on what to do, or where to get the default one?

okay, TOTALLY the wrong thread radxcoresteven. if you need help, post that in the pancake 2.1 thread, please.
and secondly, please please STOP posting these threads that are titled "please help!", "i need help", "HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!", "OMG WHAT HAPPENED". they provide no information at all. for your issue, why not make the thread title "does using 'update firmware' work on rooted 2.1 roms?". it makes much more sense.
and no, the update firmware option won't work on the rooted roms. like it was said before, you'll probably have to go back to 1.5. or use an official RUU.

If you go with official releases you can forget using any root apps.. I use adfree, autokiller, drocap, etc. Upgrade now and then you can upgrade to a pre-rooted version of 2.1 from XDA Devs when the final release 2.1 comes out...that is if Sprint ever wraps up their final release.
I feel like an idiot..I thought it hit new topic..lol
Sorry.

this is why ill wait until the final comes out and we get a rooted / custom rom made of it.
Your answer...
Type
2.1 official upgrade into the search bar in the top right corner of this page, under the search tab...
Read a little bit, and there you have it...
You people answering these questions are just feeding an endless chain, look at how many "IF I CAN UPDATE TO 2.1" threads there are....
Ignore them, and force people to stop being lazy.. And then the threads die away...
Well thank you all for your help. i have rooted and installed 2.1 but plan on going back to 1.5 when the actual update comes out.

Unrooting Questions!!!

Hey i am asking these questions on beahalf of fellow rooters
1)By rooting the phone, we are still using Stock rom except that we have SUPERUSER PERMISSIONS already, is that true?
2)To unroot our phone, run RUU roms:
RUU_Legend_HTC_WWE_2.03.405.3_Radio_47.39.35.09_7.08.35.21_release_130330_signed.exe
or...
RUU_Legend_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.31.707.2_Radio_47.26.35.04_7.05.35.26L_release_121965_signed.exe
depending on ur location, asia or other countries.
3)Before i rooted my phone, my firmware is 1.31.707.3
but the RUU rom as stated above is "..WWE_1.31.707.2_Ra.."
is it the same? if not, how do i get my default rom back?
4)After i have rooted my HTC legend, there would be a Stock OTA update by HTC to Android 2.2 froyo. Will the OTA update still take place, or do i have to unroot the phone first?
5)Is there a way to backup my current stock rom: 1.31.707.3 ? if yes, how?
Thank You
Knnhzx

well on those i can answer now:
No1: if u use the stock ruu rom u will NOT have superuser permissions, however there is an "Almost stock" Rom based on this RUU that i currently run and it's really smooth and fast and i have alot more RAM free however i have a problem with facebook contacts so my contact pictures wont sync and i can't link fb contacts to my google contacts. (But i can't really say it is because of the rom or if it is fb that has made some changes)
No4: when u use the "almost stock" Rom the OTA updates are disabled, if they are disabled on the non-root RUU i can't really say, but i don't think they are disabled on that one
Ok thank you for answers
If I understand well, If I want use app2sd I must use a rooted stock ROM, I can not use the HTC stock ROM.
I will search more informations about future OTA update from HTC (in particulary Froyo update) and may be I will try root for my legend.
Regards
BTW, any new information on the release date for Froyo from HTC w/Sense?

not any official news, HTC said "in the beginning of Q3"
many speculations have been posted regarding what they mean but many people say that it will come in september or october.. we can't do anything but wait for info from HTC or for the update itself.
Ok thanks. I'm very happy with the Legend, so no rush updating it to Froyo.

If it's Droid then it's for CDMA. I don't think it's a good idea to try it on Milestone.
This has been repackaged as a ROM. It will not work on the milestone, under any circumstances.
Could a moderator or the OP perhaps re-title this thread in light of the fact that the update in question will not work on a Milestone?

Question is pertaining specifically with the title. It specifically states "DROID" and the question addresses if this will somehow work due to it being signed by motorola.
Perhaps, it will be helpful if there is a developer who can torn the package not to include the radio which is the only difference of milestone to a droid.

The title of this post seems to suggest that we, the Milestone owners, can accomplish this installation and it would somehow invite us to do so.
Motorola signed the Droid firmware to run on a Droid, not a Milestone. There are additional internal hardware differences beyond the radio, and there are software differences that permeate several components of the OS.

If it were so cut and dried, we'd have custom roms by the butt load.
It isn't
I really wish people would stop assuming that life is simple because almost every other android device has custom roms...
The milestone could have custom roms right now and it wouldn't make a difference, because we couldn't load them.
Here is how to update your motorola droid to android 2.2 froyo FRF84B.

Per your request, title has now been changed.
Moved to general since it isn't related to development.
This will not work on Milestone, it is built for Droid which is CDMA. Droid and Milestone are two different devices, they require completely different ROMs. There is no Froyo ROM for Milestone out there yet, neither official nor leaked.
Please be patient.
Thanks

Latest Firmware WildFire released OTA_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.25.405.1-1.14.405

I just received the latest Wildfire OTA firmware update. Apparently should fix some Friendstream issues and the device is reported to more responsive on the whole.
Am too much of a NOOB to do anything with it (it won't even install on my rooted device with the Wild Puzzle ROM).
Weird that I get an OTA update after rooting and flashing though.
Anyway, attaching the OTA file here for all those ROM cookers to disect and to update their latest custom ROMS.
EDIT
Ok, the update is about 13MB,which exceeds the allowed upload size.
If you're interested in this update, PM and I can get it to you via YouSendIt or maybe someone can upload in on Megauploads or the the like.
are you serious?
there are many topics about it already

Yeah... Sorry. I saw the latest Wild Puzzle ROM already has a later version.
Do you know if I can delete this thread so I don't look too much like a dufus. ;-)
Weird though that I got the OTA update even though I'm rooted and I'm running a custom ROM.

[Q] New to rooting and flashing roms

Hi everyone sorry if this question has already been answered,
So I have a HTC One M7 and I want to install stock android or sense 6 (to remove my carrier boot and pre-loaded crapware), I still haven't decided because I'm unsure of some things. First of all if I do install stock android or sense 6 will I still be able to update to the latest version of android or sense 6 from the rom or do i need to periodically flash my rom to the latest version?
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for One M7.
For more questions about you must register an account on XDA

If you choose a custom rom that have ota update support then its possible to use OTA to update your custom rom. Some other custom rom will require to flash the new version from a custom recovery to update it.
i.e Cyanogenmod can be update from ota updates.
you wont be able to use official ota update from HTC unless you revert everything back to stock which isnt really important if you want to use custom roms.

ota = over the air. ota update is when the update is pushed directly to your phone and you get a notification that there is a new update to install (like on official HTC roms or on custom roms that support that feature)
WHen there is no ota update capability, you won't be notified of new versions automatically and you'll need to flash the updated rom using a custom recovery.

Hello everyone, im using a htc one m7 (wls) sprint. I upgraded the device via usb from android version 4.2.2 to 5.1 and since then my imei, baseband, UICC profile, PRL, and profile has been unknwon. The phone doesnt detect SIM. I'm in Nigeria where i cant find the sprint carrier network shop or oulet. Can anyone please help me out? i've tried using sim unlock helper by viper boy, still it doesnt work, maybe because there's no imei/baseband. I've also tried other OS including custom roms none works, the phone bricks (showing a white screen with htc written and then reboots on its own). The phone has been down since october 2017 till date still working on it but nothing positive comes out.

You probably flashed a GSM rom to the device.
You should mostly be looking in the Sprint m7 forum for appropriate roms and specific help with that model of the m7.
