Changed theme but some icons didn't change. Help! - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here's the background:
I was on Cyan 4.2.3.1 with Little Big Planet theme. Everything was perfect. Then I updated to Cyan 4.2.4 and no theme (theme wasn't updated yet), still everything worked OK, except some of the icons - the google apps ones - didn't change back to the standard icon. It retained the Little Big Planet icon. This was the gmail, youtube, maps, market, and gtalk icons.
Then I went to Cyan 4.2.5 and applied Buuf theme. I thought all the icons would change to Buuf's icons, but the google app icons still stayed at the standard icons.
How can I get Buuf's icons for these apps back? Thanks

I find that you always want to flash the original rom before applying the update to avoid these types of issues. In other words, don't go from a theme to a base rom and then to another theme. Just like you should not go from one theme to another theme before going back to base rom.

Yeah, the only thing is the google apps come from the HTC image rather than Cyanogen's ROM.
So my advice would be to reflash the HTC image, then Cyanogens ROM then your theme of choice, and do that every time you change theme.

Since I also have the maps with navigation, will I need to run those steps too before updating the theme?
One more question, should I wipe or go straight to reflashing the HTC image and cyanogen rom?

I would wipe first and flash the rom before doing the whole htc image deal.

Hmm... wiping and flashing just the base rom didn't work. I'm going to go try to wipe, flash htc image, and then flash rom again.

NOOO YOU CAN FLASH MY THEME TEMPLATE!!

I ended up wiping, flashing the. HTC image, and then flaahing cyan. After that the icons went back to standard icons. No more Little Big Planet icons. So then I applied the Buuf theme and the icons stayed the standard icons, it didn't change to the Buuf look.
I've never had problems with any theme before this.
Is there a way to manually change these icons, or will the theme template do that?

If you want the icons for this theme, you must flash

That did it. Thank you - everything looks good now!

Cyan Theme Template

may somebody make a theme template of cyans latest 4.2.11.1 for me cant seem to find it on his post nor website since he doesnt make them anymore :/
greatly aprreciated thanks
just download any theme that is for CM-4.2.11.1 and start replacing the images with the ones you want for your theme. I dont really know if Cyan is still putting out theme templates, i havent seen one in a while.
-BMFC
yeah i just did that...now to take out the google apps from the htc rom :/
making a little Gnome-ish theme
Make sure to post it up id like to see it =)
I have a default cm theme template I do for each rom updates. Mostly for my own themes use and to get back to stock when things break by flashing themes. It only has like open source apps though, so it doesn't come with stuff like gmail and market and youtube and such. You can always add the apk you theme of it inside the /app folder and sign it again if you want to do that.
I could upload it and post it if anyone wants.

it would un-theme every .apk that is in that .zip. I think there is a stock metamorph somewhere, you could take every image out of the folders except for the app icon image and do it that way.
oh ok...thanks man

It'll only get you back to default cyan rom if the sirmez theme didn't touch any of the google apps. Otherwise you'll see most things back to default and things like gmail/youtube/market may stay themed.

lol. Yezzir! They're the application icons that you made for Darkstar. I edited some of 'em to white to match the background I had on there(not the one in the screenshots). A thank you to you.
Edited images, new colors, and new designs! Check it out and let me know what you think!
Your on a roll here, seemslike your evolving them into your own style launcher.
This is just a suggestion but maybe try playing around with the background a little trying different gradients&some transpacency.

Cool. So, this will work on xROM? Can you offer the regular Grey color as well? Unless somenone already has a Metamorph for 2.01/2.1. Also, I suggest a way to revert back to original Eclair launcher if possible..
Thanks.

This DOES work on xROM. Just looked at the xROM drawables, and they are also the same files. Really it should work with any ROM. Whether 2.01, 2.1 OR 1.6 so have at it. more colors and designs coming soon.

how do i apply this?
This really should not work on xROM. Can anyone confirm otherwise? The res folders in 1.6 and 2.0 all have different names. Thus you probably need to open up the morph and change some folder names (i.e. drawable-land to drawable-land-mdpi).

No problem. I have ported enough graphics from donut to eclair to know this issue all to well.
Here is an idea, write a short script that renames all of your folders for you. Search on using the "for all" command in linux, and you could make a short script that will port these to eclair, which could be run from the phone terminal.

download metamorph from the market, and if you download the free version, you also have to download 'AndExplorer' from the market to be able to use this, but i don't think you do if you download the 'donate' version. You will use AndExplorer when you're selecting the .zip folders. And then just download this unto the root of your sdcard and pick it after you select 'Pick Theme' on metamorph, and navigate to the .zip you downloaded from here and then click on 'apply all!', and it should do it's thing, then you should be done! Hope that helps!
Hi,
Very nice work, thanks. I'm searching an advanced launcher in eclair design only in black, can you help?

do you know how the battery life on a stock deodexed di18 is compared to a custom deodexed rom. I really want to flash your theme. Also, does crake001 for the battery percentage mod work with stock deodexed and your theme?
i'm new to the android world but was successful with changing themes on my iphone. please help me by giving me step by step on how to apply this theme. i already downloaded to my samsung epic but is stuck there.
g.salas
I haven't played around with too many roms to compare battery life. I carry two batteries and don't really worry about it. I didn't do the battery in percentages on this one. It is on the list for the future. Right this second I'm using a blue battery widget. Flashing my theme over crake's battery percentage will erase his mod, but it might be possible to copy my framework-res.apk and twframework.apk. I'm not sure though. Keep checking back and the percentage mod will end up on here.

Alright, first you need to download the one click root method and one click clockworkmod recovery if you haven't done that yet. The next step is you need to choose a rom that is deodexed, or download the stock di18 deodexed rom and flash the zip in clockworkmod recovery. You cannot theme the stock rom that comes on your phone, it must be deodexed so you don't run into force closed issues. Once your rom is booted and running, just boot back into recovery and apply blackhole.zip. That isn't the basic as the instructions get if you need more help, pm me and I'll go into further detail, as well as provide you with links to everything you need. Everything you need is available here at xda. Don't hesitate to ask more questions.

having some trouble with this theme i have tried it on the galaxy rom by noobnl and the epic experience and on both right after i flash it the browser, contacts, and messaging icons disappear.
Sorry to hear that! I haven't tested either of these roms with the theme. The only rom I ever themed besides stock di18 deodexed was andromeda. I'll contact a few people and find out if there is something I can change in the theme to fix this. I'll pm you with anything I find out and update the OP to let others know. Once again, sorry about that! I believe when apps dissappear like that it has something to do with noticing a change in the md5sum. So I'm guessing that I'll have to sign those apps individually to fix but I'll wait for some confirmation before having you flash a mistake again.

I found the root of the problem dealing with the theme erasing half the system apps out of the phone on flash. I re-worked the apps and just successfully flashed over Frontier GS 3.0 rom, but I know it will work finally because I had the aosp magic rom and my theme deleted all the apps on there as well. It was because I was still theming apps from the dg07 build instead of using the ones from di18. Since I was using stock di18 deodexed, for some reason the apps still took but when I flashed any rom at XDA, the results were bad. I will update the OP and post as soon as I post the fix. Sorry for any inconvenience anyone has suffered.
Theme is fixed, link is updated enjoy!
Theme update! I have been real busy but haven't stopped working on the theme. The dialer colors will be adjust next!
Included now is a fix for the power control widget where you can actually see the buttons. Also the camera is themed now, here are some pics:
**Notice in the pictures the button to switch from camera to camcorder is lighter than the rest, that was fixed before upload, they should all be the same.
Also I themed Tapatalk pro on my phone. Since so many people use it, I'll help anyone who wants their version to match. I'll supply the drawable-hdpi folder and show you how to copy it in.
wow awesome work! Where is that power control widget? does it live in another apk?
edit: I think I just found it in the settings.apk (?)
Yeah settings.apk, just pull out the pngs for the widget or you'll get the other colors as well

Stock DI18 Theme Template For Themeing Stock/Non-Deodexed Rom

Stock DI18 Theme Template for the Samsung Epic 4g
This is for the themers to work from as a base and for those who wish to theme the stock DI18 rom on the Epic without having to install a deodexed rom.
Credit goes out to Raiderep and Crake for getting the ball rolling, and DearmasFamily for altering the code to make it work correctly. Thanks D, hope you guys enjoy.
This file deletes all the *.odex in system and framework, while installing stock files that have been deodexed and zipaligned. Should run very efficient! Hope you guys enjoy!
Flash in clockworkmod recovery right over the stock rom.
Download:

Should be updating tomorrow with even more optimized stock files.
Just updated link, found 2 media hubs on my phone.

This isn't actually the same thing. For the average user to get their stock rom fully deodexed, you are correct. They can run your update zip, then place a theme on top of it. But for the themers, who are testing multiple themes, or the users who use more than one theme and switch back and forth, there is a huge difference. Let me give you an example. If I'm testing out my mayan theme and I want to flash the black hole. Lets say the mayan theme has the fonts changed and black hole doesn't (not true, just for sake of argument). I flash my theme template to reset the font and then I flash the black hole or have the font from the mayan theme bleed through to the black hole. At this point I'm not going to flash back to a entire stock theme and loose all my settings, I'm just going to flash the theme template to reset the framework files to stock. All settings, including your launcher, phone apps, etc will remain exactly as is when switching themes.
Updated. I was told by Zienzu that there is an issue with the Media Hub not recognizing file formats. I replaced the Media Hub and its services so they should be just fine now. If the problem persists, please notify me.
Looks like the first go round when I had 2 versions of the media hub in there, one was the fixed and one the broken. I deleted the fixed version out by mistake.

Not quite the theme template for SyndicateRom has been tweaked to work without carrierIQ plus there are a few other changes in it like reboot option, 3 images for the GPS rather than 2. Sorry for the delay on answering this question. I'm going to work on a stock EB13 theme template.
I dont know if you've started already or given up already on the EB13, but I was wonder if you were working on an EC05 stock theme yet?

[THEMES] Cognition 4.1+: Gingerbread, Honeycomb

Make sure you backup before flashing in case something goes wrong. I am not responsible in any way if you brick your phone. You accept all risk that comes with flashing your phone.
With this theme I decided to go for a more genuine GB look. Which is why there are more files to flash. Also after some trial and error and help from people around the forum I finished my bootanimation.
Here are some GB themed apps. These are not required for the theme to work but do make the theme look good as a whole. *note the Dialer were pulled from Serendipity and can be found on the Serendipity site.
All of the files are Clockwork Mod flashable except the "Icons and Dock.zip"
*NOTE*
This theme will not change the look of your launcher. There are Gingerbread styled icons and dock attached if you want to theme your launcher. This is not a CWM file. Download it, unzip it and pick what you want.

Guide to Themeing
The attached guide is information I use to theme the Cognition ROMs. If there is additional information that you would like to know you can ask me and I'll try to answer.
Honeycomb Theme
Attached is the Honeycomb theme that received of 70% of the vote in the poll. This Honeycomb theme has been ported from PuffinNugz's theme he created.
*UPDATE
The battery icons in PuffinNugz's theme didn't port over properly. I tried everything I could think of to get them to work but could not. So what I have done is recolor the GB battery icons to match the blues in the rest of the HC theme.
*Note
If you want your lock screen to look like the one in the screenshot you have to use the puzzle lock in the settings.
Hmmm, I'm using Cog. 3.03 and it seems that this theme only changed certain properties of the theme. For example the notification bar is from this theme, but when in settings or any other menu, the font color and type is still from my previous theme.
Otherwise great work, thanks

I observed this as well during testing. I had flashed one of the other themes available to Cog3 and found that after applying my theme that certain things were still unchanged. This is due to the apps such as settings, dialer, browser and so forth were also themed by the developer. My theme only changes the framework and twframework files in the rom itself. Not in each individial app...for now.
Ahhhh, I see. So I'm guessing that flashing a fresh copy of Cog. 3.03 and applying your theme should work?
Thanks.

You are correct. I will start working on themeing the apps later on in my free time to get the overall GB look with a little of my own customization.
Sounds great man. Keep up the good work

Cog2 uses JI6/JJ4 framework.
Cog3 is based of the Rogers 2.2 and uses JL1 framework. Other users tried to use my other GB theme on Cog3 and it didn't work. So I made one that would. Supply and demand is what will drive my themes mostly.

Sorry, I think l was unclear. I meant to ask why the theme on Cog3 looks different than on Cog2 (like I notice some icons are different)

Which one of the Cog2 themes are you referring to? I know there are differences in the extended power menu and the status bar pull down. I'm not aware at anything else blatantly different. The reason behind the icons being different is that I didn't have new icons when I made for first two themes. If there is a request to update the old themes with the newer icons I will update them. Like I said before supply and demand.

Gets stuck at Installing update for Icons and Dock. I've tried 3 times, re-downloaded the .zip twice
The GinCog3.xip installed fine.
Cog 3.04

I suppose I should have specified in the OP (will fix). The icon and dock zip file is just that, a zip file. download it and unzip the file to see the icons and dock. You will have to manually apply each one.

Must be too complex for me. My phone looks NOTHING like yours
Thanks a lot I've been wanting to change the toggle icons in the notification tray on my perception theme for a while. I loved yours (but I changed the unpressed ones a tiny bit) and now it looks amazing, thanks for sharing!
