Total RAM only 200MB? - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've noticed that when i install a 6.5 rom I seem to loose RAM. With the first X2 rom port it showed as 183MB, then I went to the Pure 6.5 Barebones from gtrab and on that i only get 200.5MB, right not it has 74.8MB in use, and 125.7 free.
Currently the 6.5BB rom has the X2 stuff installed, dialer, panel manager, panels, comm manager and task manager. I installed the X2 video drivers too, but the RAM was already at 200MB before that.
Where has my other 56MB gone? I'm starting to get out of memory errors that I've never had before!

the os itself use both storage and application ram
much like when you start up your pc you don't have 2gb (or how much mem you got)
free memory

Yeah, I know that, but if you check on your PC, you'll still ahve 2GB total, and say 1GB free.
My total is only 200MB when it should be 256MB, as that's the physical amount there. I'm sure it always reported as 256MB before...hmmm

aahhh ok the rest is not showed because it's not available because it's dedicated to the "video card"
not sure if you seen 256 before
personally I always had 200.48MB right now 87.85 free

Yeah I also get 200.48MB but I always wondered how come some ROMs have 200.48MB and other ROMs show less such as 183/188MB (I think Unoff showed 188MB)...I don't think it has anything to do with the PagePool because even after changing pagepool, Total RAM remains the same

Allocate more memory

Got the Tmobile wing, or HTC Herald. I'm trying to put preferably a 32bit EMU (e.g. PocketGBA) or at least a 16 bit EMU (Pocket SNES) on it. Used MemMaid to kill a bunch of programs but I'm still stuck without enough memory (RAM). Anyway anyone knows how to squeeze some more memory out of the Wing?
The best method IMHO is to allocate more to programs...since I have a 2GB Micro SD card I don't need storage, but can't seem to do it. And I don't know enough to find and change the memory allocation in the registry (if that's where it is)
Anyhelp?? I just want more memory, nothing fancy?? Suggestions? Looked through several forums and haven't found what I need.: p

The problem is the pagepool.
All cooked rom for wizard have 4 or 8MB pagepool because that´s enough. I guess on wing it is the normal 12MB - too much.
We have to cook smaler ones and we will get back the big RAM like 30MB.
Let´s wait for official update and start cooking without the possibility of bricking.
lol
Dang-it
I was hoping I didn't have to cook the rom, I've bricked things before and once burned....
Oh well I just want it to play GBA, (wanted to wait for PSP2 to come out to decide on getting a portable) I'll hang back and wait for a popular Aserg cooked OS or something. Something using the original windows mobile WWE edition.
Oh damn I've deleted stuff from my extrom, crap should have backed it up... I think it was only the tzone thing, still just in case. well I'll get around to it whenever..
Now to look up how to make sure I use 802.11g and not 802.11b
Thanks man.

I also have a wing and experiencing the same memory problems.. your saying that if i lower the "pagepool," a term I'm unfamiliar with, more program memory will be allocated after a soft reset; right now only 27% of the program memory is free after a soft reset. Is this pagepool thing a simple registry hack, or do u need to flash a custom rom to lower it? either way, can someone please explain to me how to lower the pagepool, or easier, a recommendation for a custom rom that allocates more program memory.. before I switched to the wing, my mda would always have atleast 50+% free program memory.. please help. thanks.

Just a thought. Have you deleted your emails and cleared the temp files in your Internet Explorer?
In any case you should set it up so that these get saved on the storage card.
yes.. doing that on a regular bases does help but pagepool makes a big difference

i thought it was a better idea to set it to 6mb instead of 4mb??
im not sure whats better but i have the 4mb and it works great plenty of memory on a fresh reboot...about 25-27mb
With all applications closed, using the 4mb pagepool setting, I get 21mb.
Apparently each device is slightly different? Wouldn't it be nice if HTC had supplied more memory in the first place...and if Windows wasn't always sucking mem. for no reason

I just got my Wing a couple of weeks ago, installed a new ROM and did the page pool and am very upset with the lack of storage memory. With my MDA I had both vanilla ROM's and full ROM's installed with lots of memory left any where from 24MB to 30MG free storage ram. With the Wing I had installed only a few programs like Intellisync for work, PocketCM all emails and IE cache are on the card, with this I have just 13 mg of storage space. I do not have the newest updated Office...when I tried to intstall it the old was not deleted but this just installed over it and took away precious memory.
I do miss the days of a full stocked cooked ROM with lots of storage memory. Am considering getting rid of this phone and getting something else.
I'm running about 20lb on average. I did have about 23mb before, but had to hard reset (for other reasons) and reconfigure everything. I think I need to see what else I can put on my storage card. Only using about 81mb right now, but was running about 250mb before. Going to reinstall a few programs onto the card today and see how much more I can free up.
Wow i am an idiot. I did figure this out. Thought I set it up to storage card but... anyway thanks,
try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324594
much easier to do. I have 6mb pagepool set and when i boot up fresh i get just under 20mb of free ram with a total program memory of 49.89mb. I'd suggest the 6mb pagepool as many people have said the 4mb pagepool is too small and the device will suffer performance issues.

How much free RAM without Manilla?

Hi, i have now EtenX650 which has 64Mb RAM and i have about 27Mb free all time on some roms. So it seems very strange to me, that Diamond have 192Mb RAM and only 60MB free!!! It's possible to delete manilla? Does anybody make this, how much free RAM then it have?
I wanna run Opera, Pigeon, Toonel and Russa together same time )))))
i think you can just go to Today Settings and take TouchFlow 3d off the today screen. do a soft reset just to make sure and check how much memory you get..
wait lemme do that now..
i got 60.68MB free w/o TF3d and soft resetting..

Same here running the 1.37 rom on my uk diamond.
Thanx, but as i see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401828
60Mb of free RAM you have with enabled Manilla too? If Diamond use same WM6.1 it must use only ~40Mb RAM, so here must be about 150Mb free!!!
Can you open process manager and summarize RAM eaten by running programs?
Well at the moment i have 50mb free, in use i have 64mb in use...now i cant see where its being used...ive looked through my task manager and memory settings but nothing is coming up.

Is it possible to upgrade Diamond's RAM?

Just like what someone did to HTC D900, upgraded its RAM from 64MB to 128MB.
If Diamond gets 288MB RAM just like Touch Pro, it would be perfect because Touch Pro is too thick to me.
Any idea?
Thanks!
I think no, Diamond with its size is so small, I really doubt that there is place for another RAM module. But, I have Diamond, and I must say that these 55 MB RAM which you will get with TouchFlo 3D are enough.
Yeah even with the phone skin and TF3D on, and with all the RAM eating speed increase tweaks you get more than 50MB available.
Why do you need more? Even a huge huge program like IGO 8 doesn't need more than 30MB.
Even if you need more RAM, you can turn off the phone skin and TF3D to gain around +15MB RAM easily.
I only have 35mb free...
Im running SwiftBL v6.0 Lite with 16mb cache. Is it normal?

Something's wrong there. I'm also using SwiftBL 6 and I have 65MB free. You're either confusing used ram with free ram, or you have somthing huge running in the background.
I want more ram because when you run 2~3 apps in Diamond, it's free ram will drop to 10~20 MB, and then the phone is quite slow. If you watch the Touch Pro videos(just search Youtube), it runs much faster than Diamond, even it's now without very good roms.

How much free device memory

Bit of a noob question - how much free device storage is generally considered to be enough to get the Diamond running smoothly?
I've had a browse of the wiki and a search but it appears my search terms are too general so if somebody could point me in the right direction that would be great!
I'm currently running Duttys ROM v1.8 (full) and I've installed a few programs including TTN7, all to device storage. After a soft reset my figures are as follows:
Storage - Total 116.67 MB, In use 51.88 MB, Free 64.79 MB
Program - Total 115.03 MB, In use 59.77 MB, Free 55.26 MB
Do those look reasonable?
Thanks
Dave
Yup, about the same here .
Thanks for the reply!
To be honest I was a bit concerned about performance, particularly when trying to launch Notes when HTC Audio Player had been used.
Problem solved, I've just stopped using TF3D altogether! Now to find some nice today plugins!

Touch Diamond 192MB RAM LIE!!!

On the official HTC website it lists the Touch Diamond as having both:
ROM: 256 MB
RAM: 192 MB DDR SDRAM
So why when I go System Information on my Diamond, it lists Program Memory as 111.1Mb and Storage Memory as 92.2Mb.
I repeat that's:
ROM: 92.2 MB
RAM: 111.1 MB DDR SDRAM
111.1Mb to run Windows Mobile 6.53, Touch-Flo3D2 and then actually do something is pitiful. I'm booting with 10% available RAM only now. So any talk about how memory works on the Diamond would be nice. I dont see how adding apps (if they don't run processes or services) should add to RAM use but it must be as when I install something I notice its eating away at my RAM on a next boot, when the app I installed isn't even running. Problem seems to be this gwes.exe just getting enormous, currently its a 22Mb process... and I dont have the spare RAM for memory leaks or a process thats seems to increase in size over time on a phone sitting idle.
The other thing slightly off topic is "SKTools" listed the screen resolution as 320x240, which if it is and not 640x480 maybe this phone isn't as great as I was lead to believe. Any thoughts?
maybe its a china phone =)
Yea... This sounds like a bad clone to me.

Are u joking? Its official HTC branded casing front & back and lists as T-Mobile MDA Vario IV (GSM). Bought on Orange early 2009.
How much do u get listed in System Information/ %RAM free on boot , and any tricks I should be aware of? I'm on 95% used RAM so something is gonna have to happen. I currently use the SKTools Free RAM - that CleanRAM app although good and thorough took too long and kept shutting down Touchflo and I'd then have to soft reset, which kinda defeated the object... ^_^

One of my friends who also got his Orange branded diamond had the same issue. He has less RAM than i do on my unbranded diamond.
Also found this online:
"HTC have released the P3702 in Taiwan. At its core, it's HTC's Diamond handset, but with a few changes – one of which being cosmetic. By that, the back is plain, no diamond-esque lines this time around. Now, that could be a positive for some, but the second difference won't be to anyone. The Diamond has 192MB of RAM – whereas the P3702 has 128MB of RAM. On the Diamond, 64MB of the 192MB RAM is allotted to the dedicated video chip, so, for the P3702, that means less memory for the user, and possibly no video acceleration, but there is no confirmation on that. No word on whether or not it will be released outside of Taiwan."

Just a bit of an FYI, T-mobile MDA Compact IV lists:
Program: Total 115.03 MB
Storage: Total 83.56 MB
Device information though lists the RAM size as 192MB, and Flash size as 256MB.

I got it secondhand but it came in an Orange box and the back cover was Orange branded until I switched for plain one.
@vss1980
Good idea! Hardware Information in Settings lists:
RAM size: 128MB ---> must be the 111.1MB I keep filling up
Flash size: 256 MB ----> errr....??? I get 92.2Mb see below
Storage size: 92.18 MB (strange not rounded)
Screen res: 480x640 65K colors
Looks like I have a 128MB RAM model So I don't get it, where is the 256MB Flash?? Is that the 92.18MB Storage + windows? Or is the 256Mb flash actually 92.2Mb storage + ~160Mb for video acceleration and therefore hidden? OR is the 256MB Flash the RAM + ROM (what I call Flash) added with ~32Mb missing?
HTC website lies about my RAM then the phone lies about my Flash size ^_^
i have read this somewhere in the forum ...192 mb ram are just for marketing
in reality are 128 ram ( 113 actually ) for win mo and 64 mb for the system behind the radio (gsm, wifi, etc) , and rom 256 (wim mo 6.1 official 146 mb + 98 for storage)

AHHH thanks very much Logix I can now sleep at night. This explains it perfectly.
My CDMA Sprint Diamond says it has 203.59 Program and 91.05 Storage.
I have heard the CDMA Verizon has less. Maybe yours is the GSM gimped version like the gimped Verizon model.
