Tried and True Emulator Apps (NES, GBA, ETC.) - G1 Apps and Games

Hello All,
I was hoping if anyone can post their experiences using thier emulator apps.
Been using 'Gameboid' for a few days now. Im pretty impressed it runs the games it does. Sound syncing is not 100 percent but doable or you can even turn off your sound. I can confirm Advance Wars works VERY well and is a must have if you use the program. I am overall satisfied with it and hopefully will continue to see more compatibility with more updates.
**PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY GAME DOWNLOAD SITES AS THIS THREAD MAY BE SUBJECT TO CLOSE IF YOU DO SO... Thank you.

I use Snesoid religiously. Love it.

i use gameboid and snes emulator regulary buyed.
snes go well, you can play but without sound because it eat more resources.
gameboid go, but it's a little bit slow, and it's a problem when you play games like micro machines, mario etc because you have to take an immediately responce, and you don't have it
i use a dream with cyanogen mod 4.2.5

What Gba games would you guys recc?

I turn off the sound since it is a bit laggy/buggy on my device. Overall I can recommend all of yonghzh emulators. I really like em...

i'm looking for a emu that runs classic-gameboy games like super mario land or solar striker
any recommendations?

Theres a Genesis emulator out there too but I havent used it yet..
Hoping theres a few more people out there that can offer us more reviews on these apps.
There will NEVER be a game that will be an Android game as elaborate as a SNES, GBA and or NES one.. never.......

nes, genesis, snes, and gameboid emulators all work great, i've played quite a few games on all of them. scummvm is another great emulator (of sorts) and i've been playing return to zork, discworld series, 7th guest and beneath a steel sky with them.
still excited about gaming on this platform and it will only become better in the future.

If you like point & click games and missed out on many oldschool classic (or, wth, even want to play them again) i would recomend scumm. It works great on android device, especially if you have a trackball (kinda slugish it is, but for precise aming - priceless)
I've read about Android Arcade Emulator (capcom, neo-geo arcade games) but I'm not using it (those games where made for playing with mates - kinda hard on small device ), apparently it runs the more famous games without lag.

I also use gameboid. works great.

I just got gameboid, got the bios and everything, but when I go to play any game, it takes a second then force quits.
Im running Cyanogenmod 4.2.7.1,, or whichever is the newest one. Any help?

It depends on which game it is, its not 100 percent compatible yet. Also make sure the bios file is not compressed by any programs (ex. winrar, winzip and or power archiver)
Ive downloaded some games that force closes it as well. What I did was simply delete the game and threw another one into the SD card.
Report back and let me know your results and we can both figure out another solution if you cant play another game..

The best emulator out right now is ggNES. It runs NES games at full speed with sound on. No slow down, no errors, just perfect.
I like the xxxoid emulators, but the app author isn't making them run more efficiently, he's adding other stuff. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's even updating, but full speed emulation can be done, and ggNES had a free version to boot.

ggNES is a definite download and is running great on my G1.
Time to play Bionic Commando and kill me some Hitler:

Issue is, While RPGs and Tactic based games. (Yes I love advance wars) Are great on the emulators. Games like Star Sigma etc are harder.. even mario is hard. Seems action games are just harder to manage that fast paced stuff on the emulators. Anyone else notice that?
Or have they got better? Curious about the snes one tho if that runs smooth.
Edit: Just read others.. I agree I use gbaroid and nesroid and while the dev makes updates.. the speed seems to be the complaint.. but I really dont wanna buy ggnes just for speed after I paid for one.. heh..

ggNES is currently the best at playing Nes roms. Try the ggNES lite and see how it works out for you, if you like it why not buy it?
Snesoid runs good at least on my phone. Its also dependent on how many apps are using up your memory. Get Advanced Task Manager to fix that problem prior to using any emulator.

Ok Ill give it a shot. I use Taskiller pro personally. Works well I think. Unless you know something works better? Advanced Task Manager I have as well.
Maybe its decent enough to play River City Ransom. =)

There are alot of programs similar to Advanced Task Manager, yours is one of them. As long as they close unused programs it should be fine.
Hopefully you see improvement running River City with the Emulator change. Let us know how it went..

i have it. Runs pretty smooth, not quite as smooth as nesoid. I've got shinobi 3, all the sonic games, splatterhouse 3, and earthworm jim working good.
I can't figure how to get the keys to map correctly so I can play Mortal Kombat 2!!! if someone can figure this out, please post your method
I freakin love it. Was playing NBA Jam and MK2 today instead of working. Killed my battery so fast lol. Speed and sound could be increased a little bit but not bad for first release. Updates should be able to fix it. Def worth the price.
Edit: Earthworm Jim and Earthworm Jim 2 runs great, love those games!!
NBA Hangtime was Perfect!!!
The NBA Live 95 ROM that i vaved get freezed out on the main menu, maybe is the rom...
I've tried Shining Force 2 (runs great), Sonic Spinball (layering issue, some of the items that are normally background are foreground and layer over Sonic?), Robotnick's Mean Bean Machine (layering issue again, different though: The shadows for the beans are white and off to the right of the actual sprite, rather than behind it, same with the glowing outline for the clear beans). All other games I tried (all Sonics, Phantasy Star series, Fatal Labrynth) run fine. The only issue all games have right now is sound, the sound is a very low and slow bitrate, and also some games lag here and there but for the most part run perfect (again, aside from sound) either way..I've been waiting ages to play Shining Force 2 on my phone...and I am dominating right now!
All in all, I paid the 2.99 for the full version, and I love it, no regrets.
I think it is a Genesis emu and not Sega- at least none of the verified Sega 8 bit roms I have that work with other emus worked. I tried a bunch and all result in black screen, but play fine on my PC and Smartgear on my Dash.
I tried about a hundred roms. About 75% work and play very well with sound . A samples of the 25 or so that did not work either played a while in first level and kicked out to the Android screen, or kicked out when trying to advance from the game's menu.
Did not work (DNW) or corrupt graphics (CG):
1) Alien Soldier DNW
2) Ronald Mcdonald Land (do not laugh- Treasure made it and it rocks) DNW
3) Afterburner 2 CG + DNW
4) 12 & 1 collection DNW
5) Burning Force CG
6) Bimini Run CG but playable
7) Battle Mania 2 CG
8) Fatal Rewind DNW
9) Gunstar Heroes DNW
10) Castlevania Bloodlines DNW
11) Duke Nukem CG
12) Raiden CG but playable
Small sample of games tried that rocked:
NBA JAM
Coach K College B-ball
Side Pocket
Tetris
Dragon Fury
Cannon Fodder
Championship Bowling
Championship RC
Fun Car Rally
Caliber 50
Contra Hardcorps
Rainbow Islands
Dashin Desperados
Columns 3
Devil Crash
Desert Strike
Ghouls n Ghosts
College Slam
Darius 2
This emu already plays games better than the other options out there for other phones and OS's. It is worth a lot more than $3 and is a few tweaks from greatness.
Considering the hundreds of good games it can play well already- this app gets an A and will be A+ when compatibility improves.
Android already has three amazing emus that perform better than the competition: Gensoid, Nesoid and the Android Arcade emu. More the reason to NOT get a phone without a keyboard
i wish these ran on the magic....
alas without a hard keyboard it renders them pretty much useless ahhhhwell
What type of files are these suppose to be? I have a ton of them on my pc that are MD files but, They don't work on my G1!
What file type do I need?
game genie support?
Turning the sound off makes every game I tried run at 100% awesome. Granted, there is no sound, but if you need full-speed, it is a solution for now.
A+ worth the $$

For all those having the same problem I was having just rename the file example
gamename.MD to gamename.bin
and the game will work fine.
Thanks 4 all the help I didn't get lol
I hope the dev does an update so more roms are supported. None of the Treasure games work:
Alien Soldier
Gunstar Heroes
Dynamite Headdy
McDonald Land (great Rainbow Island type game)
This sample is odd for a group that does not work, considering about 80% of the games do work and work very well. Much better than Picodrive- especially with sound on.
In regards to the Treasure games, perhaps the operations the game uses are from the same "engine" and as a reult, all crash as soon as the first level starts.
edit** found my answer **
it also works with .smd files.

*.bin and *.smd files work for me, I didn't have to redownload any roms or rename anything from the load I have on my pc.. I do wonder, however, if the save states are the same format at Gens or other genesis emulators for pc, seeing as how the game formats are the same...I will test this.
**EDIT: saves are in .ss0 format...which isn't the same as most emulators (.gs* format.., gs0 gs1 gs2 and so on for which save state you used) and since there isn't a multiple state option, going to try renaming the states on my pc, seeing if it will port over. I love Shining Force 2, and restarting is no big deal....but not having to would be great!!
**EDIT 2: nay to the simply changing the extension... works between other emulators (it's what I have been doing for years between different OS's emulators for each system) hmm. Darn.
gensis emulator wont load on hero (rosie) rom
i have tried several wipes and different roms but i still cant get the paid version to download and install ( installation unsuccessful) any ideas on this

New update posted yesterday. Over 90% of games now work and this includes Treasure games like Gunstar, Alien SOldier and Dynamite Headdy.
This is easily the best Genesis emu on any portable OS or device for phones.
Works great with sound on or off. I am killing time like crazy at work playing NBA Jam lol

SNesoid (SNES Emulator)

Anyone try it yet? Is it as good as Nesoid? I didn't find a free/trial version.

Oh snap its from the same guy who did the nes and genesis emulators. They are pretty good and well worth the $2.99. Gonna go download it now and see how it is.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV - Turtles in Time
Tetris 2
Tetris Attack
X-Men - Mutant Apocalypse
Yea im downloading it now. these emulator have been great. they run 100% with sound off. sound on it still runs pretty good. worth the money.
Okay I kinda want to download an emulator, but I'm not sure of where to get the Rom's. Or do they come with the emulator? If not, then where do I get the Rom's from?

My G1 is currently being replaced, however there is another snes emulator that is said to be out by end of June... supergnes (www.supergnes.com) so I might wait for that to compare..but nesoid and gensoid are both solid emulators, so I have no doubt this one is just as good ^-^ Will have to give it a real review tomorrow when I get my phone in the mail...
BUT...can some one post the games that don't work too well? That'd be pretty helpful!!

The only game so far that I've tried that had a little trouble was Killer Instinct. I was suprised it ran at all but it didn't run well at all. So far though Link to the past, super mario cart, and a few others ran great.
One thing I have noticed is the key bindings don't stay and I have to reset them everytime I play. There was an update for it recently and haven't played it since then. Anyone else get this?

i DL yesterday but Mario World 2: Yoshi's island lagged so much and could get Mario RPG to work so i refunded. I'm waiting for that other SNES Emulator to come out in late June. If anyone was able to find a Mario RPG to work on the snesoid app plz let me know...its a deal breaker for me.

If you are a gamer, there are hundreds of worthy games that play great on Snesoid, so worrying about $3 in relation to this seems superfluous. I have tested over 150 roms and this emu plays 95% very well- and I am a picky SOB.
Cannon Fodder
Sensible Soccer
all FIFA's
NBA Live
Mario Allstars
Metroid
Contra 3
Space Megaforce
Tetris 1,2, Flash etc (and all are way better than the market Tetris)
NBA Jam
Mortal Kombat 3
Raiden (Not as good as Sega or Turbgrafx version, but plays great on Snesoid)
Rock N Roll Racing
Kirby's Avalanche
Every baseball game I tried (about 12)
Supernova
Gradius 3
Parodius
Side Pocket
Mr. Do
Etc, etc
This emu is amazing and well worth $3.
hey nice signature picture maxdamage2122, mind if i use it? Ill totally give u full credit lol
also, this emu is freakin sweet!

What are some good games Aria ppl are trying? I know its small screen will deter some from playing games but it can handle alot.
I've been playing the Sims 3 for a while but I think there are some better graphic ones that it could do as well. The emulators are retro but has anyone tried psx4droid? Id like some feedback on that. MT3GS ppl say some psx games are laggy!

Not true. I have hooked up my wiimote to play game boy advance games.
Things you will need:
1. Rooted phone.
2. CyanogenMod rom. Nothing with HTC Sense. Again if you are using Stock, Stock w/Root, or Liberated Stock it will not work.
3. Goto market, download "Wiimote Controller" by C.C.P. [email protected]
4. Follow Setup on the app. It will set up as another keyboard. Only useful for a handful of other apps, but like I said I use it for GBA
thanks for replying, i've been trying to find out if the cyanogen rom made changes to the bluetooth stack. Asked it twice and no resonce in that thread. Figures that I'd get an answer here lol.
This is good to know that it works when i make the switch from liberated to cyanogen

Thanks. It is awesome. I'm gonna try Gameboid later and see if I can get Advance Wars for it.
Guns 'n' Glory FREE is a great tower defense like game with a Western cowboys and indians twist. even the free version is hard enough to keep anyone entertained for a good while.
I like the games My Paper Plane 2, and Home run Battle 3D... The touch screen controls on the aria such too much for proper emulator gaming

Since not many people talked about the emulators, I guess I shall write a bit.
So I've been playing around with the emulators for the past week or so. I have the SNESoid, Gameboid, and PSX4droid emulators. Anyway first the SNES emulator. For the most part, games play pretty well. There is some occasional slowdown but not much. There is a bit lag though on games that use the SA-I processor (mario rpg and kirby super star). Sound on a few games are a little choppy but for the most part, it's decent. Just have to tinker with the settings. Games like super mario world (i have all stars) plays very well. Chrono trigger plays nicely too. I have close to 20 roms right now.
Next is the Gameboid emulator. I have a few roms for the gba emulator (FFI and FFII, and a gundam game, have tried a few others but decided to delete them lol..). I must say, the gba emulator runs the best. It's seems like the Aria hardware was made to play gba games lol. There's no lag whatsoever and the sound is great! I find it ironic because the gba had better hardware than the snes so you would think the snes roms would play better. I think later I'll try more roms like advanced wars or something.
Last is the PSX4droid emulator. Well let's just say it can play the games. First game I tried was chocobo racing. It was a little slow and the sound was bad. Then I tried digimon world 3. The game played well but a little slow and the sound was also bad lol. I'm going to try brave fencer musashi and warcraft II next. Both are currently being downloaded.
Oh btw...I suppose it would make a difference but during my gaming, I only had around 30-40mb of ram. Maybe I should've killed the other apps to gain more memory. I suppose it would run a bit better?
Angry birds beta is the funnest game i've played on the aria yet!

Good review, I've only tried snesoid thus far. Super mario rpg did see a bit of a speed up for me when I switched to cyanogen. I think I still had to set it to skip a 4 frame max though. The audio was fairly bearable then.

Free emulators (n64, snes, genesis, nes, gba, gbc, gg, and atari 2600) until ??

Hi all, I just noticed that slideME market has subject emulators for free until 2 weeks from 29 May, which places today as the last day? but is still showing up free. A few more days for N64oid which is absolutely awesome on gTablet!
https://slideme.org/user/yongzh
BTW, Snes9x EX is always free on the market place and the tiger emulators are also, but these are much better than tiger emulators and NINTENDO 64!!!
After playing around with Snesoid, Snes9x EX has better compatibility.
Got mine! Thanks for the heads up!
Have any of you got Zelda Ocarina of Time working? Mine loads plays for like 5 minutes then resets.
So far I haven't had luck with n64 roms. Conkers bad fur day stops before it gets to the title screen and forsaken didn't even load.
Snes emu works great and I have had the gba emu for about a year. Both work on 100% of roms and play great with my wiimote.
I can't get any of the emulators to work, am I doing something wrong?? I am on Illuminate 1.2.
Thanks for letting me know, I was about to hit the sack too

Surprised no one's started this one yet. Just a thread for gamers to post what's working and what isn't. Also, to share about any titles that you particularly love. I'm always on the look out for new high quality games. I love FPS and RPG. Not a big fan of strategy which kinda sucks cuz there's SO many out there. Anyway, once I get mine (should be Monday), I'm loading up Deus Ex: The Fall, NOVA 3, Modern Combat 4 (and maybe 5), maybe a couple of Final Fantasy ones, the Bard's Tale, Iesabel, Dead Trigger 2, Temple Run, Super hexagon, Fluid SE, Playstation emu, GBA emu, and whatever else I'm not remembering right now. Anyone else have good ideas? Or other games I should try? Can't wait for Exiles to come out--that's the new massive single player RPG by the same people who gave us Ravesword Shadowlands.
Anyway, thanks for sharing!!
check out the Kingdom Rush series. their latest was just released last night and it's fun as hell.
I bought xcom enemy within last week on my Note 3. I intended to play it on a road trip this week, but they don't support Nexus 6. I copied it over from a titanium backup and restored it, and it runs, but the graphics in the gameplay are really messed up. So I bought Icewind Dale to play instead. It seems to work. Never played it back in the day so looking forward to it.
XModgames does not work at all for me, I am rooted. Anyone else have luck?
Soul Calibur runs great on this phone! Also, it is on sale for $4!

Try Modern Combat 5. It has some intensive graphics. It lagged on G3 a big time. So thinking about its performance on Nexus 6. I've pre-ordered my Nexus 6 but it's yet to come. Here it'll launch on the 2nd week of December
U know, it's weird. I played that game on the lg G3 and it ran GREAT. Thing is, I'm not to crazy about the changes they made from part 4. These super short missions, with specific goals u have to complete. It just seems too controlled. I like part 3 and 4--it's a bit more "open" to however u want to play. Just kill everyone and don't die...lol. Seems simpler. I think they tried to make it too much like dead trigger 2 and the execution wasn't as great. It could just be me--I don't know. You're right about the graphics tho, they are awesome.
EDIT: I meant to quote the post above mine about MC 5. Don't know why it didn't work.
Haven't gotten mine yet. Can someone check to see if Mass Effect Infiltrator is compatible? I liked that game but haven't been able to play it in a while because of incompatibilities.

U know, it's so ridiculous what EA has done (or more appropriately, hasn't done) with this game. I've had sooooo many devices that I don't remember the last one it worked on but I kno it hasn't worked for a LONG time for me on A LOT of devices. Really sucks cuz it was a good game. If u ask me EA is being really stupid. If they updated it, it would still be selling.

I know, same here. I don't remember the last device it worked on. I like console quality games like this. It's a shame they put something out there so good and just move on to something else and leave us hangin. It wouldn't be so bad but really good games are few and far between.
U mean any EA games will not run on our nexus 6 ??? Daam !!!!!! Thts unfair
Any soln for that ?

Not all EA games. I'm only talking about mass effect infiltrator.
Hey all. Just got crescent moons new RPG, exiles. Its a SciFi themed ravensword shadowlands. It's available through one of their humble bundle packages. Just Google it, if interested.
EDIT: been playing it and it's still buggy... It's an alpha tho.
Got my nexus today! So far......
Star wars commander
Injustice gods among us
Nova 3 - *edit* - played fine but come back later to play more and would not start.
Need for speed most wanted
Castle of illusions
All work fine.
Ah! The horror... Temple run doesn't work!
I downloaded Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and NBA Jam, both of which crash/fail to load on my Nexus 6. I thought it may have been due to my changing DPI, but reverting the DPI resulted in the games still failing to play.
Anyone have any luck playing these games on their N6s?
NFS MW works
Assassins Pirates no dice
Peggle booyah!!!!
NBC Live is giving me problems, freezes right before playing.
HBO, Netflix, ESPN, PS Tube downloader all work
Castle Clash works but it runs like crap!!
Bentley's Hackpack won't even start.
