Is there anyway to increase WIFI via external antenna or micro usb ports? - Mogul, XV6800 Accessories

Im just curious if theres any possibility of increasing your WIFI signal on your Titan using either ports. I dont use the data plan so im trying to find ways of increasing WIFI signal.
Any help is good help, leave your suggestions and comments..

thanks but..
I was looking for something that physically fits right into your phone to boost wifi signal whether it be throught the external jack, micro usb port or even sd slot.. There are two things I did find, I dunno if they would work for what I want but I'll post anyways

MoGo USB 'Port' Boosts Wireless Signal On The Go...Portable signal booster!

Since i'm a gadget freak, I thought I would share my obsession with everyone and post new things as I find them. This one seems to be a pretty good idea. Especially if you run around and experience low signal quality in certain areas. I haven't bought it yet...not sure if I will but wanted to share in case someone else was looking for something like this.

Dont get too excited, they claim a 50 db gain, which is impossible. At most an antenna that size might get a 2 or 4 db gain, and the largest gain Ive seen from a real antenna that I own is 12. You cant go higher with planar and yagi antennas, but not a multidirectional dipole. Im also curious how they plan to make a connection via usb - only phones with external ports like the Athena can utilize external antennas. To go through the usb port the phone would need a special driver and firmware designed to allow it.
Did you pick up one of these devices yet? It looks like they essentially set up a VOIP type relay and allow for the cell phone signal to be re-routed over another stable internet connection. There are several different ways of making this happen, but for us as athena users, it might generate some-type of feedback loop or not work at all if we are expected to see our internet signal improve our phone signal, with the full understanding and realization that if we have weak phone signal that we will also have weak data connections as well. The place where a solution like this could work is when we are in airports, close by hotspots that might not have good cellular reception or other ground based internet connection. IF you find out that the solution works with the Athena as a stand alone, let me know. For now, I use the adapter from Radio shack and it helps out for a bar or two normally and provides coverage when I travel to the country. I have also bought other car adapters and the like but can't see the difference in realized performance over the $39 dollar solution from Rat Shack...
Hope this helps and please keep me posted on your findings...

Antenna??

The Titan has the antenna port...
Does anyone sell an external antenna for the Titan/Mogul?
I use mine for data sometimes and the edge coverage here is spotty. If I could get the antenna outside thats all that would needed. A magmount (car), or even just the adapter wire would be fine.
Titan Antenna
Try places like Radio Shack at least maybe the might be able to point out who carries them. Here, in NW Arkansas Alltel carries the Antenna and the required adapters but I got mine at a local place called Wireless hook-up They Carry "Wilson Cellular" Accessories, not sure of exact name but Wilson something. I has a strong magnetic mount for the Antenna. Be careful about getting Matching Antenna and Adapter cuz the connectors vary. Also Adapter for a Motorola fits as the don't always carry the HTC one, I think it was V7 but can't remember. Good luck
Thanks... yeah, I have plenty of antennas to use, or could cut one to length...
I wouldn't ask anyone from Radioshack anything!
Does anyone actually know what adapter works? I don't want to just keep trying until I find one that fits. Mess up that connector and you're fuxed....

Try that to see if they has a local vendor. I found my package its Part# 359909. It's not for 6800 specifically but it works. It lists a few LG's, Moto's V710 V262 V265 etc. And the HTC Apache and 6700; and the Dash etc...
the old antenna from my Moto e815 car kit fits into mine.
Funny thing though it really dosent seem to help at all. Some times i think it drops a bar when i plug it in.
Any idea ?
Does adding an antenna increase speed of EVDO? i'm getting pretty crappy wireless speeds here in Albuquerque, NM (87123) like 200 down, 50 up, and I'm hoping for some improvement. if i have 3 bars, can i expect an antenna that may help me to get 4 or 5 bars to give me better speeds?
one more question: do I need to "enable" Rev-A in my EPST, under Data Parameters? right now, it says disabled, but i've never seen anyone recommending enabling it. i didn't notice any change on speed tests when i enabled it anyway, so i switched it back not wanting to mess anything up.
thx
A word of warning: I tried an external antenna just this weekend (June 14th) and now my phone is having problems getting a signal without the ext antenna being plugged in. I think the external antenna port disables the internal antenna and now my phone is stuck with the internal antenna disabled. I'm taking it to a Sprint store tomorrow to see if there's anything they can do. Does anyone know of a way to force it to use the internal antenna through software?

If you check the RSSI in your debug screen (##33284# for sprint...shows up as Rx Power) it's a better indication of signal strength than the number of bars. You want to be around -50 to -60 for the best speeds. It is possible that there isn't a Rev A enabled tower in your area yet, too, so signal strength might not matter at all...
200 kiloBYTES or kiloBITS? 200 kiloBYTES is really good.
Don't change the "disabled" in your EPST...it needs to stay as it is...
Can anyone tell me what the antenna is used for and why didn't we get one when we got the phone?

[Q] Purpose of the antenna port on the back?

Hello there,
I'm just wondering what the antenna port (or at least it looks like one) is on the back of the SGS and more specifically what it's connected to, I don't particularly want to start hooking up random length wires until I know what length would be optimal (requires knowing what it's being used for and the bands for that use) and whether there's any particular practice that'd kill something important.

If this is linked to any radio system/s apart from bluetooth it could be darned handy!
Apologies if this has been answered somewhere else, searching for "antenna port" just gave complaints about the GPS system or requests for ports of things.
Many thanks!
gsm antenna for sure.
for external antenna for better reception.
no link with gps or bluetooth...

Have you tested it?
It's apparently a MCX connector..

But I'm not sure if anyone ever managed to confirm for sure..
So, from what I can gather from those threads you linked (thanks btw) it's not any sort of uniform port as the sizes don't quite match anything in use, they are however probably right in that this should be a GSM antenna port. I've got another phone on hand here with another antenna port and the two are not the same size.
Well, I'm always up for a bit of hackery so I think I'll carefully shove a wire in and use sticky tape or something else that's not hard to remove to keep it in, see what improves.
addition from about an hour later: Managed to pry open my SGS and according to the few teardowns I can find all of the antennas should be in the plastic that makes up the bit you see below the back cover, removed that and tried the phone, still works and picks up wifi, GSM and GPS signals fine so idk what's going on with respect to other antennas, all I can do is jam a wire in that connector and hope for the best.
oops !
Hey well i tried to jam a wire in it didn't do anything but after a few minutes i realized that now i have no signal reception the only way to get some signal is if i am close to an cellular antenna .I am not sure if it has to do with the wire i jammed or that it's just a coincidence because i am not even sure that it really when in the small hole and touched anything ...
So does any one have any idea what to do now ?
sent the phone to get fixed and got it back working !!! but i still wonder what it was....

[Q] NC CM7 (Tab Tweaks) + GPS + Apps

I'm going to be going on a trip in about a month and I would like to be able to use GPS from my NC. I don't have an android smartphone so i cant just use my phone. (I have an ENV3) haha.
I would just like to know what type of hardware I need in order to get GPS to be received on the NC. Also what apps would go best with this setup?
Try to be cheap please! Thanks for all input.

Thanks. Should have looked!
why is gps so important
Of all the possibilitys of the NC can anyone speak to why it dominates the disscussios?
I am more interested in battery up-dates/grades, signal boosting, and ironing out whether or not we will be using them as cell phones(so tiered of having useless phone "options in the rims and inthe markets)

I do not think that the nook has a microphone. With skype and a bluetooth headset however, there may be a shot.
won't work even with BT mic - not equipped to handle incoming sound

[Q]N7000 wifi problems after replacing micro usb part

Hi all
I bought a note 1 from friend last week and I ve got problem with it. He was replacing micro usb part because the micro usb was not working so he get it fixed. Phone shop charge him around 50 pounds dont know why, and from that time there is a problem with the phone.
Wifi is only working when you are in the same room where the router is and when you go somewhere else in the house the wifi is discconected from network. I bought new antenna cable because I thought it will help but it didnt. So I dont know now how to fix it, and also the signal is very poor after replace that part.
Can anyone help me please ?
Thanks
Search for "usb port wifi" and you'll find a lot of threads related to this, like:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2421145
As far as I remember only the use of original parts from Samsung might solve this.
Okay, Thanks. I contact samsung service center and I am just waiting for them to call me back to give me a quote how much it will cost to fix the problem with signal so in other words replacing usb board for the original one.
But Does anyone had similar problems as me with wifi. I was checking wifi at my girlfriend house and it seems to work perfet I had wifi signal everywhere but when I am at my house the wifi signal is poor and its only work few metres from the router and also sometimes is working slow, but when I go somewhere in the house the wifi is disconnecting with the network.
I heard that Kernel is responsible for the wifi I changed kernel to Philz one and its same problem. I replace the antenna cable but that doesnt help me.
Any ideas what could I do about it ?
Thanks
