Filesys.exe taking almost 95% of CPU, help! - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

filesys.exe remains at 16.4mb.. and wondering if this is normal or how to reduce it to normal? Or any fix to this?

I think its normal, it uses 16.3mb in my xperia...

Huh?? Not for me. It takes 2129kb.
Cool eh?

That's defniately not taking up 95% of its ram though, considering it has like 200.48 MB of program memory. Check your programs running, make sure you dont have alot of stuff running, and restart your phone. If it starts up and stays at 95%, youve got a problem. Either alot of apps are opening at the start for some strange reason, or youve got a very screwed up ROM.

im using gttrab's barebone r3.6. very stable.
one thing i noticed was: when i take out storage card, filesys.exe: 7mb.
doesnt ANYBODY have this problem too?
im just running normal stuff, spb shell, voice command, s2u2. thats it....

Massive memory leakage

Right another thing ive noticed tonight...and i would have thought HTC would have solved this but seems like they couldnt care less.
Left my phone on charge at 6pm and went downstairs to watch some TV...anyways i came upstairs at about 12 and turned the phone on....it was in sleep mode like it normally does. Anyways looked at my screen and saw that the internet connection was still alive even though i specified that it should disconn after 1 min of idling. I also found the phone to be extremely sluggish....touchflow slowed right to a crawl. I opened up the the status and looked at the memory and it was down to 23mb!!!...no bloody wonder it wasnt snappy lol. Now this is where it gets interesting because really i had nothing running on the phone...always make sure all tasks are killed off. The only thing that was running was my gmail polling which takes place every hr or so...so dont know if that was causing a massive memory leak.
Im running it with the 1.37 uk stock rom as its a uk spec diamond...i looked through the task manager and couldnt see anything running.
So has anyone found this with the 1.37 rom??..i was going to flash to the new TLR 1.37 rom but just havent had time...has that rom fixed the memory loss.
Dont get me wrong, i still love the device...i restarted the phoen and all was well but over the past few hrs ive been watching the status of the memory and its slowly getting lower and lower. To be honest ive never come across a phone with such a bad case of memory leakage...ive owned most of the SE smartphones...P800, P900, P910i and P990c and i never found them to be as bad as the Diamond. But the good thing about those phones is that SE usually put out a new firmware to sort the memory leakage problems.
So i was just wondereing if anyone found their devices suffering from massive memory leakage....i know its WM thats causing it...
Just to give you an example....i re-started my phone about an hr ago and it was at 50 odd free mb...less than an hr later its at 40.85 mb free...and 72mb are being used...
Hi Spawn,
I've tried every ROM available and none of them fix the memory leak. After some time, a soft reset is necessary to get the TouchFLO 3D 'performance' back. My biggest gripe, is that when returning to the home screen, and watching the hour and minutes 'flop over' the hour part stutters a little bit. The only ROM I've had no stutter with is the Middle East ROM, and even then after some time the memory leak gets worse and it starts stuttering again. *Really* annoys me. Surely it cant be that hard to make that little animation look smooth and fluid.
HTC really need to get off their collective asses and fix this.
In the meantime, thank god for xda-developers.com!
You could try something: turn off Flow and see if you still get a leak.
I loved the look of the interface, but was forever actioning wrong items/ringing wrong people/whatever. I dropped it and went beck to SPB Mobile Shell (which I had been using on my 'good old' P3600i). I have never seen any leak.
I've noticed this too.
If I click on the little task manager icon in the top right corner as soon as the phone is rebooted it displays about 50% roughly. As the day goes on, its up at about 75% - and I have no programs running at all. The only thing I've used through the day is Texting and a bit of Opera.
It seems the phone needs rebooted every day or 2...
I'm also running the UK 1.37 ROM
Hi,
Does Hibernate help reclaim the lost RAM?
Regards
Hello,
You know, the memory leak problem exists since Windows Mobile 6.0. I had it with my previous Eten X500+. Unfortunately, it has not been fixed with WM 6.1. This is a microsoft problem, not HTC...

Yep thats what my diamond was doing...it was having a hard time with the clock.
Anyways seems like we are stuck with this memory leak till HTC release a rom which rectifies or wait for someone to cook up a rom which will rectify the memory leak. Only other gripe i have other than the memory leak is the battery but thats not too bad.
Guess ill just have to re-start the phone every so often. I disabled emailing polling as that seemed to cause it to hang a bit ie the connection stays on even though ive told it to disconn after a min of idling.
Hibernate as far as i know doesnt help the situation as my phone last night was in sleep mode.
I have this issue also, and I have to restart the phone once every two days to free up the memory. I think I know where this comes from : TouchFlo3D records every action you make to optimize the use the next time you boot
or not...

Yeh after doing a few more tests, it seems like tfl3d is right resource hog...it just wants to take over everything. Im hoping future rom releases optimises the tfl3d but like you im resorting to restart the phone every other day or else it just becomes unuseable.
Its shocking how bad HTC are with their QC control...surely they could see this being a problem ie tfl3d eating up memory like a rabid wolverine.
Thank god for XDA though, at least ill be happy in the knowledge that someone here will be able to figure out this mem leakage and sort it out fingers crossed.

LOL...well i run vista ultimate on my laptop and its not that bad...M$ and HTC really dont have a clue when it comes to mem leakage...even in WM6 and before it was apparent that memory leakage is a problem..they really need to address the memory leakage problem....i just wish they would do so rather than ignore the problem altogether.
I've changed the clock to the non-flipping one... it seems to make the TouchFlo a bit smoother as it has less 3D to cope with. You certainly notice it after a day when pressing the Home key - its much quicker!

[Q]GPS running in background, even when closed?

I've noticed something strange. When I start up my phone the process mem is about 50%. (using hardSpl 1.40 unsigned and SwiftBL 1.55)
After I start the gps up (tomtom 7) and then close it the memory goes up and stays at about 60%.
If I reboot the phone its back to 50%.
It seems that the gps is active somewhere in the background.
Is this an issue anyone else seems to have? And is there any way to terminate gps so it wont suck memory?
I wouldn't say it's the GPS still active, it could just be bad memory management by WM.
Does using Oxios Hibernate help?
I read an article about WMs memory management that stated that the OS doesn't claim back RAM until it's needed by other things.
I did try with oxios hibernate and it doesn't really seem to help. Seems that all programs used makes the memory amount used before starting it, bigger after closing it. Any solution for this? A soft reset (eg. rebooting) will make the memory normal but isn't there any better way?

Memory Leak issue

Hi, My Diamond seems to have memory leak issue.
I soft reset my device, the memory is 55% but after a activesyn the memory become 60%. If i open any program, the memory go up and will not release after the program is closed.
Any solutions?
Same solution as with any PC? Reboot.
My Diamond has been up to 70% memory, without any programs running.
This is why i think the RAM of Touch Diamond is not enough.
didn't run anything, but still got 65% or higher RAM usage. even with a Lite rom.
it sucks.

Make sure the application is closed, rather than minimized. Minimize an application has the benefit of being able to re-start quicker the next time. Closing (quiting) the application has the benefit of releasing the memory, if not all.
this is a WM6.1 issue not your diamond.
Guys, are there any tools which can let us check which applications or processes are occupying memory?

How can I get the list of processes running in the background, just like what we usually do with Ctrl+Alt+Del in Windows?

What programs do you have that wont run on 35% free ram?
even with 72% usage you still have over 30 megs free!
I have never had a problem running an app on my Diamond due to lack of ram.
How often are you seeing the "Not enough available ram" message?
Jules
Yeah I get the same sort of problem to,
Throughout the day, connecting my Diamond to my laptop at work, use activesync, update the weather, sending texts and also looking at pictures on my phone, and playing the occasional game, my memory will get to about 65% free.
Yes I can continue to use my phone, and its not a major problem but its a niggle that could do with being sorted.
When the memory usage gets to 70% I then Soft Reset the Device as this always speeds it up.
It is the best Windows Mobile phone ive owned, and I use the Soft Reset function alot less on my Diamond than I have before.
However it would be nice to own a Diamond without having to Soft Reset it so often. The memory leak issue needs to be fixed Microsoft!!!!!!! Take note!

When your diamond is with 70% or higher ram usage, try to play a song and then open the opera or IE, they will lag your music. You still think 30MB ram is that much?

Yip just did that
Memory was on 79% with Icontacts and Second Today Phone Alarm and Pocket Breez running
Started a song in Manila Music (Korn YAY!!!) listening on A2DP via my Plantronics 855 then opened a web site in Opera. as Opera was opening the song jumped twice for a split second and then played fine. I surfed a few sites and skipped songs using the headset controls all without problems Then I took a call and had one on hold all without a hitch, after I ended the second call the music started up again and I opened a new website
By now the memory was at 88% and it still worked fine.
Don't know if its the Rom I'm using (Shine On 1.5) but my device seems to cope with its ram with no problems. Even with only 13megs free ram Manila was as responsive as with 40megs free.

High memory use

From what I've read in other posts here I see that the average memory use is about 30-40%. Well mine is at 77%, with only Gyrator2 running in the background, and without 70%. I have the newest Aztor ROM, but even before, with the original ROM the memory use was the same as now.
Is there something wrong with my hardware and is there something I could do to lower the memory use?
try nataly rom. try kitchen tree too. around 70mb free!
Percentage memory use will depend on which ROM you have installed. Also some ROMs have a bigger page pool and so have less RAM available. These sytems will then show higher percentage used, even with the same number of MB free.
How much?

Where did you get this figure from? (30-40% memory usage!) - I've tried pretty much every ROM in this forum (and few stock ROM's too), and I've never had mine below 60% after soft-reset. You may be thinking about Touch Pro, which has twice as much RAM! If anyone can show me how to have 30-40% RAM usage, please spill the beans! (Not that I've ever needed anymore RAM. I leave alsorts running constantly on my device and I've never had a 'low memory' warning.

As above - load (just for test) Nataly Rom, and after start, with tf3d you'll have 47-49% EASY...
My memory use at startup is normally below 50% but I'm not using a ROM with TF3D... I'm running SPB Pocket Plus and TouchPal (which uses about 3MB but well worth it.)
Use can drop below 40% if I disable the HTC dialer and use the standard WM one instead.
So I guess as long as no warnings pop up, I don't have to worry?
My memory shows 52% after soft reset regardless of what I have installed onto it. After using RSS, Internet and Email it hits over 75% and becomes very slow. I can kill these apps and get down to about 60-65% so I generally just soft reset after this and I'm back to 52%. This is with stock Orange UK 1.93 ROM.
Just did a soft reset on my Diamond with the stock Sprint ROM and TF3D running. Only active task in the pull-down is Activesync and I'm at 31%
After a soft reset my memory is 47%.
I have a clean boot though but it runs various system programs like Touch Response, probably not much of a difference but I guess I could get that percentage lower.
I also deleted every shortcut in the startup folder in windows, it doesn't give any noticeable problems (yet).
The startup programs were:
AutoShortcut.ink
HTC StartUp.ink
poutlook.ink
After some usage the memory usage climbs to 50~60%. I don't use the Internet browser at all.
Something strange though, some games like Flux Challenge wont run smoothly (when using touch control of your race ship) after a soft reset. Even when my memory is at 50~52% it wont run too smooth anymore...
Does anybody knows what these startup programs do anyway???
Just did a soft reset and my memory is at 62% with WLAN turned off, not much difference when I have Gyrator2 on in the background. Though as soon as I start a application like the album, it jumps up to 80-88%.
When i startup i have about 45-50%. When doing alot of things, i never come higher than 75% or something....
Do you use the newest ROM?

After removing my Startup items I am still at 51% after soft reset so it hasn't made much difference (AnswerKeysDisabler, AsyncKiller, AutoShortcut, batti, HTCStartUp, poutlook). After this I disabled TF3D and soft reset gave me 44%. I find TF3D and some of those startup items are too useful to disable and if I did disable TF3D I would need to add today items which would probably bump it back up to about 48-50% anyway.
EDIT: Just found this option in Opera to clear disk cache on exit and it has helped a bit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3009554 or you can redirect the cache which may be better: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2791743
I've got arround 47 - 49 %. Sometimes around 55% but when i wait i few secs, it drops to 47 -49 % again. I used the Diamond Tweak to disable the Diamond Phone Pad. So right i have the default windows phonepad.
I also have Memmaid installed. And tweaked the system with this tool.
Also i configured memmaid to kill every unusable processes at 12:00 h.
So all day long i have a fast system.
I use the latest HTC NLD rom (2.03)

I heard about ClearTemp and was about to use it until I saw a thread on here saying it had cleared all files off the device including internal storage and the only recovery option was a backup (if one had been done before this happened) or a hard reset. I decided not to take the risk and try to find out where the files were located and delete them manually. (I have only looked for Opera so far but when I get time I'll search for the rest).

Phone slowdown after long call?

So i've noticed it a few times now - whenever I finish up a long call (say longer than an hour or so), my Dream becomes extremely sluggish. I've tried killing everything reasonable with Advanced Task Manager but nothing seems to help. I'm usually forced to reboot.
Does anyone know what the problem could be, or a way i could fix it? Is there a better task manager i could be using?

I'm reasonable sure that taskmanager doesn't kill the phone service (I think it runs in the background, check under processes) try killing it manually from there and see if that helps at all.

Yeah i tried killing both dialer and dialer storage. Didn't seem to help...
Try increasing the CPU frequency.
Cpu is already locked at 528 with setCPU...
Is it possible that this is a hardware issue?
I don't think so, if its still a problem, try reflashing the ROM but with a wipe and clean a2sd. Start fresh!
