I MEANT THAT WHEN DATA PACKETS IN PROCESS (EDGE). ANY CALL SHOULD TAKE PRIORITY OVER THE GPRS BUT INSTEAD THE CALL IS NOT ACCEPTED (GOES STRAIGHT TO VOICE MAIL)
in MY N95 THE GPRS STOPS WHEN I RECEIVE A VOICE CALL (VOICE CALL TAKES PRIORITY OVER THE GPRS)
BUT ON XPERIA THE GPRS TAKES PRIORITY OVER THE VOICE CALL
ANY SOLUTIONS PLS

Missed Calls

Hi,
I have a Dopod 595. I cannot make calls whenever the phone is synchronizing or downloading email (Push Mail) or even when I have IE running loading pages. I am on Maxis 3G network. The phone has the ā€˜Uā€™ sign. I thought if I am on 3G network, I can still make calls or receive calls when the data line is being used? Currently, if data is being downloaded, incoming calls will become miss calls automatically. At least when I am on EDGE or GPRS, it will disconnect the data line.
Why is this so? Please enlightened me.

Incoming call while on internet

I was wondering is there a setting on the TyTN II that I can set to make calls my first priority. When I'm using the internet on my phone, no calls can come through. My service provider said the calls should come through while going onto and said it's probably something I set on my phone that isn't letting the calls get through.
So.. is there a setting I can set to be able to receive calls while using the internet? By the way I'm using EDGE network, not 3G
i believe you have to be using 3g to be able to receive incoming calls while using the internet

hmm.. I thought so, but the representative said the calls should come through, so I was just asking to see if it really is possible.
Surf the internet on EGDE mode. Dissable 3G then you will be fine. That's another side (dark or bright, you grade it) of 3G beside of drainning battery.
FYI, you can place a call while surfing internet on 3G mode.

I know I'll be able to make calls through 3G while surfing the net. But T-mobile USA currently only has the EDGE network. So I was wondering is there anyway to make calls able to get through while I'm surfing the net. Because a lot of people has been complaining that they can get a hold on me.
I have a similar question.
Can one use wifi internet while on the phone?

yup, you can
Actually I got a question that's somewhat related.. Calls do come through when I use 3G/HSDPA connection.. however, if I pick up - connection terminates... isn't HSDPA supposed to let you talk and use internet at the same time?
when im using gprs i can reeive calls but it kicks off my gprs connection - very annoying - so i guess this isnt a fully fledged device capable of both at the same time - there are three types right, 1 2 and 3?
if your phone is locked to wcdma in the network settings then yes, you can browse the internet and recieve pictures,.
I have found that when the phone is set to Auto selection, it always drops back to gsm to carry the phone calls (maybe this is network dependent), which while on gsm calls, the data connection is suspended.
Not all ROMS offer this functionality, I can confirm the the original HTC ROM for the kaiser does!
One thing you can do, and I know its kind of a round about way, but.... I use callwave.com for my voicemail, and have messages and missed call notifications send to my phone via email. With direct push set up. Now if I and downloading something or loading a web page and a call comes in, it goes to voicemail immediately and even if the caller just hangs up without leaving a message I will get the notification while online. Also if they DO leave a message I get a email with the content of the voicemail roughly typed out so I can see what the call is about and who called without ever having to disconnect the internet unless I need to call them back.
I know this isn't really what you are talking about, but its better then not even getting a missed call notification because you are online, or not getting voicemails until you disconnect.

Since no one is answering your question directly the answer is no.
If you are on the net, edge will send you to voicemail. The only way around it would be to roam on AT&T in 3G.
Edge was never really "designed" for what we are doing now with phones.

I'm already using callwave, but the thing is that my emails aren't coming through to my phone sometimes, push email doesn't work at all.
i use mail2web for my exchange email, i did have a problem for a bit while i was using wap.cingular, i am on at&t and i have pda connect unlimited (lowered to $30 per month now BTW, you have to call to get the lower price) and i switched to isp.cingular and have no problems anymore, emails come in about 5 sec after the caller hangs up

But AT&T has their 3G network, I'm using t-mobile which doesn't

Aren't phone calls supposed to interrupt Edge?

I know I can not recieve Data while on a phone call with Edge. But shouldn't an incoming call interrupt an Edge connection?
I have a stock AT&T Tilt rom (latest WM 6.0 not 6.1) I have KaiserTweak with most settings in it set to advised. Is there anything in KaiserTweak that will cause this to happen?
I am trying to run IM+ on the phone and when it is online and connected all calls go straight to voicemail. Also when I tether and a phone call comes in it goes straight to voicemail and doesn't ring my phone. I WANT it to interrupt my Data service so I can get the phone call. (it is a phone after all)
This seems to be more of a function of the specific phone rather than the phone network. For instance, if you call a 1st gen iphone (2g/edge) while it is on an active data connection, it will disconnect the data session and the phone will ring. However, the same is not true of a Kaiser/Tilt.
My best guess is that phones w/ 3g pay less attention to edge performance and features because 3g can coexist simultaneously with a phone call.
RK
On the tilt, when you're connected to EDGE, calls will interrupt the connection IF it is idle and no data is being transferred. If data is being transmitted then the call is rejected. I've never seen anything about changing that behavior.
2.5G vs 3G
First of all excuse me for my English.
I know that EDGE is an evolution of GPRS, commonly knowed as 2nd generation. For this reason is called 2.5 generation. In GPRS and EDGE, data connection is stopped during a voice call. EDGE inherit the behaviuor of GPRS. Only 3g standards like UMTS HSDPA or HSUPA allows data connection during a voice call.
Ciao, from Italy
Francesco
It turns out that if you have the "Disconnect After" setting enabled in KaiserTweak phone calls will not stop Edge. If I turn this off then I receive calls while on an Edge connection. Seems kinda silly to me. Now I have to pretty much have data on at all times. Goodbye battery life.

Missed Calls when connected to GPRS Internet

Hello all,
Have any of you guys come across this problem with your X1...I was connected to the internet via GPRS earlier this afternoon doing a little browsing and have now received 3 missed call notifications which were made during my browsing.
Does the phone not receive calls when connected to GPRS...very annoying.
I'm using the Touch X 10.1 rom by Smaberg but don't think that is the problem...any ideas!!!
some phone operators with older hardware in their end don't support call and gprs at the same time
not really a phone thing
Thanks for the reply...I'm on the Orange network so I thought they would have been up to speed with technology incorporating call and data at the same time...
Same issue here.
I'm pretty sure that GPRS and voice calls can't work at the same time because of the 2G network, but thought at least the voice call would interrupt the data session.

That's my understanding. 3 & 3.5G allows voice and data at the same time.
but on 2G it's either GPRS or voice... that used to drive me crazy with my Prophet too
Ah, that makes sense...I usually turn off the 3G to extend battery life so that would be the reason I missed calls...may turn it back to 3G if I'm doing a session of browsing in future...
Cheers
even with my 2g himalaya I didn't have any problems with both calling and gprs
it was why gprs was interduced to replace the slower and older gsm dataconnection
which worked the same way as an analog modem which blocked of cause
of cause only class A gprs devices support that
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Packet_Radio_Service#Hardware
but all these phones today are that
problem is that class A is required in both the phone and the operators network hardware
Try with RADIO ROM 1.16.
Problem with this rom is apparently solved.

Surfing the internet when in call

why when I'm calling someone and talking with them I dont have 3G network, and I can't surf the internet? but only when I talk after I close the call I can surft the internet... Its the same at you also ?
For me while I'm on wcdma I can use the Internet but while on Gsm I can't
in my city is like H+/H everywhere..but when I call someone I can't do notjing
in 2G or 3G network, you can't use network-based internet while a call is in progress.but you can use wi-fi connection during a call.
