Can anyone help me? - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi i have had an x1 since august but within a month its been dropped and then it was unable to show the screen, i opened my device to try and fix my problem but messed with nothing whatsoever, when i put everything back together it wouldnt even turn on anymore! all it did was charge and when it was fully charged there was a red light. can anyone help me? please im desperate to fix my phone. My first paycheck was spent on this and i loved it despite the numerous flaws! also i havent charged it in over 2 - 3 months. Also when i opened it the tape that connect the rear and the front is kind of messed up, would that effect anything?

The tape that connects the front and the rear is the cable for the screen, so if it's messed up, you might need to get a replacement.

here is a pic, the red part where its circled is where i think the problem is, it looks ripped off, i did have a hard time opening and putting it back together the first time also.

Sounds like (Or rather, looks like) you're screwed, as far as I can tell, if it's really ripped. Otherwise attempt to clean the contact points with some cleaning alcohol and Q-Tips - something might have made it's way in when you disassembled the unit and blocked the electrical signals.

ill try it, but if that doesnt work, would i be able to replace the flex ribbon? would acteone work?

got this checked out by my friend, he told me its the flex ribbon cable, thanks for the help btw. Does anyone know the cheapest place to get a flex ribbon cable from?

Still would like confirmation if its my flex ribbon cable before i spend 40 bucks on a new one. thanks!

Hi, I am new to this forum. Sorry for posting here but I think I have similar or same problem with my xperia. Few days ago I drooped my xperia and then I could not turn it ON. I opened unit, the flex cable was detached.
After attaching the flex cable. I could turn the unit and it booted normal but no response on touching screen I even tried to align it but it did not respond. I turned off the unit. After trying turning it back ON only back light of the screen turned on (no sony logo, no xperia logo no winmo).
I tried to turn it on few times but same result. Even tried to soft reset and hard reset it but no difference only back light. Is it because of flex cable or because some thing else? I can`t even go in to 3 color screen. Please help. Sorry for my bad eng. Thanks.

So you think that the phone is working, just that the screen isn't? Maybe the ribbon between the two halves of the phone, is loose? Do any buttons on the top half work e.g. Call, End Call, Up, Down, Left or Right?
Sounds like you got a flex ribbon issue. My phone first started acting strange as it went black when in landscape mode and then eventually the screen went black altogether. Volume worked and everything but the screen was messed. I had it happen to me twice in 15 months, with the first time happening when I still had warranty on my phone. I sent it off to SE to get it fixed and it took them over 5 weeks to get my phone back to me. If you phone is still in warranty you might want to send it them to get it fixed. If not, SE can fix your phone for a fee. Not sure what the price is though because they told me that they couldn't attempt to fix it because I told them my phone had water damage marks on it. If you are brave and bold, you could open it up yourself and try to fix it. I ordered a flex ribbon from Cnn.cn and am awaiting delivery. You can find instructions on how to disassemble your X1 via this forum or search it on youtube. There is also another thread around the forum that has a flex ribbon fix and the author's guide to having his flex ribbon last longer. I'm at this stage now, I have my X1 disassembled and awaiting the ribbon and a new housing to replace my old cracked one. If you do want to attempt to open it up, you'll need a torx t6 screwdriver and a small flathead (the screws on the X1 are phillips but my experience is that it strips it more than unscrew it).
Good Luck and hope this helps.

thx for helping me, but the buttons on te front still work and i've got a black screen from booting up, when i slide nothing happens because the screen was already black. so is this still a ribbon problem?? or should i just hard reset and see what happens.
thx everyone
Definitely Flex ribbon issue. I replaced mine and it worked for a bit and now it's gone and done the same thing again. Black screen at start up just like you, sounds and buttons working and everything. I went ahead and replaced the newer flex ribbon with my older one (trying to see if taping up the ribbon would fix the issue) and it worked...until I slid up the keyboard and it went black again. So from my conclusion, yes it's a flex ribbon issue. Thinking about giving up on the X1 altogether now.

My diamond fell and gives no image

Hi all ... I have my HTC Diamond for about a year. I love this phone, and I don't want another, but today, unfortunately he has a very strong fall. I always had very, very careful with it. But today was the time, the phone crashed, broke away from the back cover and battery, and I thought to myself, if not damaged by this fall, he would never break down. I put the battery, put the cover, turn it on, he vibrate on startup, but nothing else, the phone went blank, I was waiting, and then there gave the sound of that presentation of HTC, but no picture, no lights on the keys, nothing ... I'm really sad, I have no idea what it is. Already dismantled a bit cuz I thought it was some form of contact to the screen that is hung up, but no, it's all good inside. Does anyone know what could be?
Sorry for the bad english (google translator)
Please... can anyone help me?
could be flex connecting Display to motherboard damage. Send to HTC center to check
My diamond did the same thing, just open it up and connect the flat plastic display cable back into it's little plastic connector on the motherboard. Takes all of 15min to do and there is no way you can screw it up

Thx... but since then, I already repair it, not me, and the guy make me pay 20€ for that... and now my GPS doesn't work. By what I searched, may be it's the coaxial antenna that is not connect, or I heard that after deconnected, it can't be re-used.
But I don't know where to buy a new one...
Well at least try opening it up and seeing if anything is broken. The guy who fixed it probably disconnected it on purpose so you have to pay him more to fix it again
I have also gone through the same problem last month. As my small cousin came from abroad, he threw the phone like wrapper of the chocolate but I send the phone to the repairing center and it is well now.

[Q] [HELP] Black Screen but Functional Device. Galaxy Note N7000

Hello Everyone!
So i'm really stuck over here. I have an international Samsung Galaxy Note N-7000 that is working but with a black screen!
First of all i want to discuss exactly what i have done:
1.i had a problem with the charging port where it works sometimes and most of the times doesn't. So i decided to order a new charging port to replace the existing one.
2. When i received the new charging port i instantly started to dissemble the device (The device was working perfectly before starting replacement)
3. After i removed the old one and installed the new, i turned on the device and it showed only a black screen, then after some time i saw the touch buttons light, but still the screen is black:crying:
4. so i decided to return back the old charging port and this time when i turned on the device it sounded like it's booting and working but still with a black screen. The phone even received call and the touch screen is working but with black screen.
What do you guys think has just happened to my phone? could the new charging port cause any problems with the motherboard?
i'm really stuck and don't wanna go to a service center
I have recorded a video of the problem. Please see it below
since i'm new over here, i'm not allowed to post youtube link.
please head to youtube and type my username and watch the video : nadeaa0a
thank you very much
My younger brother always liked to disassemble things with a hammer wondering after why it wasn't possible to assemble it the other way around.
It took him a few years to understand that real knowledge of things is a clear advantage.
Go to a service center and get help from a professional instead of making it ...

maybe you disconnected the wire you were changing ports ! don't worry and don't freak out just take to any shop and they will check it i don't think the screen is burnt because if it was it would be more expensive ! go to any shop and ask them to change ports and check the screen
for what you described, my best guess would be either you unplugged the lcd and didnt plug it back in properly.... or you damaged the flex for the lcd... the charging flex wouldnt cause the problem... just inspect the lcd flex and plug for damage... if no visible damage plug it in again and try it again... lets hope its just not plugged in right...
I have the same problem
Hi,
I have the same problem. I had never disassembled my phone and the screen slowly turned purple and started blackening out. It was fully functional. This I knew because I connected it to my Windows 7 computer and used Android Commander. I ordered a new screen complete with bezel etc. I have two batteries, the first didn't even charge after I put it in the phone (it had drained totally during the wait for the new screen), the second was partially charged and allowed the screen to boot. It is however behaving like the first screen did before it went black, that is purple. I am sure I have not done anything wrong with the connections. Could it be the batteries? or the adapter flex? I just hope it is not the mainboard. It is not on warranty and we don't have that many honest phone specialists around where I live. I am almost sure others have experienced the same problem and someone on xda knows what the problem is. If you do I would be indebted.

it shows as color black, or nothing (like locked device)? I used to face this problem too with my infuse 4G, but it was because of installing custom rom. Had problem with few rom i installed but nothing happen on my stock one. If your device is just not lighting up(like locked device), then i guess because of ROM, but i'm not sure yet. But if it shows "color black", then i don't know.
THIS IS NOT A SOFTWARE BUG. Its the Screen flex or the ribbon. Disassemble the back part, and take a look at the flex or the ribbon connector of the screen, clean the conector with a tooth cleaner with alcohol and let it dry for a few minutes. Put it back on and mount the back part again. Test it, it should work.
Same thing here: changed the usb port, booted fine, had issues with the sim, turned off took it apart again to check, put it back on and black screen.
Yea having the same issue here, dismantling the usb module and put in new one, power up black screen!! The menu and back button did lights up, and the phone is working too, can hear the booting tone, anyone got any solution for that yet?

I have unplugged and replug back few times, same result. Guess most probably i have damaged the flex cable. Replacement part seems too pricy to change, rather buy a new phone.

LCD won't turn on - help

Hello, guys!
Recently I bought an HTC One with cracked digitizer, but functional. It had a lot of scratches etc, but this is not important right now. I wanted to do a complete make-over so I bought replacement parts from the internet, I bought the front housing with the LCD screen and the back cover. I dissasembled the phone from the old housing (the one with the broken digitizer), and I assembled it back on the new housing. After all of that, I powered on the phone and it worked like a charm (the LCD and the touch-screen worked perfectly), but then I saw that the glass was a little out, I mean it was upper than the speakers cover, so I decided to take out the whole screen and to change the adhesive, because it was too loose and the screen wasn't staying properly. I succesfully did that, i put the screen back and everything was good, but when I wanted to start the phone, the screen remains black. And this is the problem I have. I mention that I worked very carefully with the screen, so I don't think the problem is at the screen. I disconnected and reconnected all the cables and still doesn't work. When I press the power button it vibrates and then it's making that sound like the phone is booting, but no image on the LCD. If I keep the power button pressed, the back and home buttons are blinking and then the same story as before, vibrates and then the sound. I really don't know what could be the problem.
I really need some help with this and I'm open to all of your suggestions. If you want more informations feel free to ask.
Thanks in anticipation!
To me it looks like you damaged one the flat flex cable.
When you took the screen out did it come like suddenly and maybe some tension was applied to the flat flex?
If I were you I would take it apart and verify the connection in the socket, maybe the socket was damaged or something and it doesn't make a good connection
I hope it works out for you
Thank you for your answer!
When I took out the screen, I took it out very carefully and there wasn't any tension applied to the flex cable, so I don't think this is the problem. I think it's more likely a problem with the socket on the motherboard, like you said, and it's not making a good contact. But what can I do about that?

New display assembly won't work

HI guys,
I want to post on behalf of a friend who has a problem with his Xperia Z1. He originally bought it used with a broken display, he then changed it with success, the phone was working fine until it fell. At this point the display was still working but not the touchscreen, so he ordered a new assembly from the net (not genuine, like the first one which worked tho).
Upon receiving his new assembly, he immediately started the repair. However, when he turned on the phone, he only felt the vibration and nothing appeared on screen. No any light, he got a totally black display with no sign of life, while the phone was fully charged, and was recognized by Windows (he could even access his files on the memory).
He obviously thought that the seller tricked him and that the assembly was defective but when he tried with the old one (which had the display working but not the touchscreen), the same result showed up, no light, like the assembly wasn't plugged to the motherboard at all.
So far that's what I told him, check the connections to the motherboard, and make sure the flex ribbon is not damaged. He even bought a new ribbon and installed it, with no success.
He read that the problem can come from the display ribbon touching the chassis, thus making a short-circuit, but I doubt it. How if the display connector on the motherboard is broken? Is it fixable? Like buying a brand new connector and soldering it.
Thanks in advance for helping us
Try a hard reboot by Golding vol + and power until phone vibrates. Is the backlight working?

Thanks for reading this long problem
Sure, he tried the hard reboot thing, he even successfully flashed a stock ROM but nothing changed. I can only think of this as a hardware problem, but what part is defective?
The motherboard connector?
The ribbons on the chassis? But he changed to new ones already!
The LCD assembly? Same, the one he tried is a new one...
Still no one to solve the mystery?
I'd like to add that the phone turns off itself after approximately 30 minutes in idle state. That is, the explorer doesn't show the phone anymore and it has to be powered on again.
I know the best solution would be to buy a new motherboard or just forget about this broken phone, but it's a challenge to fix something that is apparently hopeless
