Downgrade SPL and to Stock to return to Orange - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

Hi, I'm due to return my Touch HD back to Orange for a swap for a replacement handset, but I would like to make sure I return it back with the original Stock ROM and SPL.
If I switch on my phone with the vol key pressed, it shows that I have:
SPL-1.56.OliNex
And I am currently using the latest MaryOne ROM.
I have downloaded: RUU_BlackStone_Orange_UK_1.14.405.3_Radio_52.49a.25.26_1.09.25.14_Ship which I believe was the original Stock ROM for my phone. It appears that this ROM is the older 1.14 version.
Before flashing my device with this ROM, do I need to downgrade my SPL first? Or is there a way to make the phone use the Stock SPL? (The reason I ask this is because I remember reading the "dummies guide" and it said that in order to use the newer 1.56+ ROM's I had to upgrade the SPL, so my guess is I may need to downgrade now to install a 1.14 ROM?)
Could anyone clarify for me?
Thanks,
WizzKidd

You are correct, if you are using a rom based on 1.14 you need to match the SPL or you'll get screen issues etc. You can either use HSPL 1.14 or return stock 1.14 SPL. All info can be found in this thread including how to return to stock rom & SPL (bottom of first post - section called 'How to reflash Stock/Shipped SPL - STEP BY STEP - FOR WARRANTY REASONS ONLY!')

Weird graphic / color issue

I recently upgraded to the official HTC 1.56 ROM.
Flashed it as I normally do via the microSD card. Everything seemed to be fine but once I got the boot screen the colors went from white to teal colored. Even the boot up image is teal colored.
Once the ROM boots up the color issue is still there.
If I turn off the backlight and then turn it back on the colors go back to normal with no issues. If I soft reset it will go back to the weird color issue again. I have tried flashing 3 other ROMs....the official shipped ROM that came with my device and other ROMs as well.
Anybody else ever heard of something like this or have a problem such as this before.
Any advice help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
I assume this is a hardware related issue or maybe SPL?
Here we go. I Just have had the same issue. I was in HSPL before. I changed to USPL and flashed 1.56 based ROM by Laurentius, in beta testing. Everything was fine. I decided to try Davidhuck 6.5 v7 ROM, and after flashing in USPL mode I had the same problem. Now I'm trying tp flash another ROM.
I have had the same since upgrading to new official HTC rom.
you need to remove hspl by restoring your original stock spl before flashing rom 1.56 so your spl can upgrade to 1.54. see the rom 1.56 thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501583

Wow thank you for this. Does anybody happen to have the SPL 1.54 as a standalone. I will be unable to flash the ROM without hardSPL.
Invalid vendor ID 294.
I used uspl 2.5 after I restored stock spl, has worked ok for me several times but its a risky flash according to the uspl thread, use at your own risk
It's not a metter of reverting back to 1.14 or 1.54 stock...
I did this operation the very first time to get Original Stock SPL 1.14:
Instruction one more time to flash to my latest rom.
1) Flash stock rom to get stock spl:
http://rapidshare.com/files/17797607...25.14_Ship.exe
2) Flash USPL and then flash to latest HTC 1.56:
Uspl:

Latest HTC shipped:

3) Flash another time USPL and then flash custom ROM

The moment I tried to flash a different rom, a wm 6.5 based, I had the problem.
try going back to spl 1.14 / hspl for the wm6.5 roms. need to match the roms to the corresponding spl's now
@pw120
The miri WM6.5 v.7.2 is based on 1.56 rom...it should match new SPL...but I still have the same issue...
Now I flashed the stock 1.56 and the weird color issue has gone. Uhm...it should be related to WM 6.5 ROM. Now I will flash once again a 6.1 coocked rom based on 1.56 and see what happens...
Problem fixed.
thanks guys.
1.) Revert to original SPL
2.) Flash USPL 2.5
3.) Flash 1.56 ROM
4.) Complete.
if anybody else has problems with this just hit me up on MSN at [email protected] or via PM.
@AllTheWay
The problem is not fixed for me. I did that procedure 3 days ago and then I installed last Laurentius Beta ROM which is 1.56 one. The problem occured when I decided to flash some WM 6.5 ROM and also last 6.1 Davidhuck. Now I'm flashing back Laurentius beta to see what happen...
some cooked roms based on 1.56 have changed one of the .dll files so they work with old spl and hspl
@ PW 120
U r veru right! This is the problem! So to all coockers please
SPECIFY IF YOUR ROM ARE FULL 1.56 BASED OR NOT...

Flashing stock ROM won't give you stock SPL if you had already flashed new ROM with 1.54 SPL. You have to flash stock SPL separately to get back to it. Had colour screen problem with stock ROM and realised I still had 1.54 SPL from upgrading newer ROM. Flashing 1.14 SPL the risky way with USPL solved the problem for me.
Same problem after NEW WWE 1.56.401.1 ROM
I just Reflash with OLD Europe 1.14.401.2 ROM from WIKI
All is OK now,
no colour screen problem and the 1.14 SPL is back to my HD

Well, I falshed stock ROM when I was HSPL in order to get original 1.14. Now I'm with 1.54. I suppose that if I would go back to 1.14 and than HSPL, I should follow a different procedure that, as are you telling me, couldn't be the simply flashing 1.14 original stock.
The problem of wired color under 1.56, is that the most of the ROM avaible are designed for lower SPL, and also the one which are based on 1.56, were modified by replacing a dll file which allow all people with 1.14 HSPL device to flash every rom. ATM I'm running a beta ROM by Laurentius which is "full" 1.56 and I have no problem. So, once you upgrade to 1.56 and flash with USPL (since HSPL for 1.54 is still not avaible), if yuu want to flash all the rest of the rom you have to downgrade to 1.14 spl:
* Download an older stock ROM for your CID (region/operator)
* Flash ROM (to downgrade SPL)
* Install HardSPL
The problem is that for a period we will have this double way in ROM coocking, one with full 1.56 base and another one with a 1.56 modified dll. All coockers should point out when a new rom will be released, if it is for HSPL 1.14 or USPL 1.56.
...at least I think this is the problem...

Hmm...
Here's what I did:
Had HardSPL, flashed to original rom with original SPL.
Then upgraded to original 1.56 without problems.
When I now use USPL to flash cooked ROMs based on 1.56 (like Miri's 7.2), I get the green screen until I turn the screen off and back on again.
Is this fixed by flashing the original 1.56 from USPL? Sounds a bit weird to me.

You sure that 7.2 is based on 1.56 ?
"* [ROM][WWE][11.04.2009] Miri WM 6.5 21500 :: V 7.2 [ONLINE]
This ROM is based on Windows Mobile 6.5 build 21500." first post of his thread
The way I see it is once you have 1.56 you can't flash cooked roms with out getting the color issue.
I think the exeptions are roms based on 1.56 as they have the correct version and combination of disptools.dll.
Now you dont want a stock rom so why would you still need SPL 1.54 on your decvice were you can run the risk of the color issue.
Would not a down grade of the SPL to 1.14 be enough for you to flash any rom as you did in the past (HSPL, USPL).
Now what I am not sure about is if you downgrade SPL 1.54 to 1.14 and still have a 1.56 rom installed will you get color issues ???
As allways info taken out of this wiki page
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone_Rom156
@fjevel
Miri's 7.2 is not a full 1.56 based rom. He should have modifed a dll in order to make it run under 1.14 HSPL device. To have it to work correctly you should flash a full 1.56 ROM, like stock one or Leo Beta I'm currently testing.

Trying not to void Warranty

I gotta return my touch hd for repair (Wifi and camera are not working). I do not want any surprises when it comes to the warranty, so could someone please tell me what spl should be on my device if I have flashed the latest official rom from HTC. I currently have 1.54 that I manually added when I flashed the 1.56+ roms from this site. Can HTC tell that I manually put it on my touch hd versus their software flashing utility? Thanks

As long as you have official HTC rom on device (no matter when released) and don't have HSPL or cooked rom, you are fine to return device and not void warranty
I am facing the same problem also, the thing is after the spl, for some rom the start up screen will looked lees color, or funny.
I there any way to revert to the original spl?
yes sounds like you need to revert to stock spl 1.14.0000

Flashing Back to Stock ROM

can anyone give me a step by step on how to flash my ROM back to STOCK?
if you want it for warranty reasons then you will need to flash the SPL also to stock. you can just download the latest ROM from HTC website and flash it. it will give you the stock ROM on the existing SPL.
End of the post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2710548&postcount=1.
Remember you will also need to go back to stock spl if for warranty purposes.

I've kinda got thesame question. I flashed a stock rom (latest EU rom from HTC site), then stock SPL (1.14) and then the stock rom again. Is this enough to be able to claim warranty without HTC finding out about custom roms/boatloaders?
Thanks

That depends. What was your original rom and spl? Are you entitled (via location) to use the new EU rom, eg if you live in America then this may not be acceptable to HTC.
When you boot up the new rom, are the screen colours ok as this will tell you if you have the right spl for your rom? If you have the latest EU rom, I doubt that 1.14 spl would be the right one, but it could be I guess. With the stock rom, you should also get the stock radio. So provided you have the stock rom available to your area, with the correct matching spl and the radio, there is no way to tell of your exploits
Thanks for your reply
The problem is that the screen of my device won't turn on anymore (Device powers on, I can connect with activesync, digitizer works fine) so i have no way of checking if I have the right SPL or not...
I also have no idea what my stock rom/spl/radio version was.. I live in the Netherlands, and through the official HTC site i flashed the latest rom, which included a radio (a radio version was part of the filename). What I'm trying to find out is:
Could 1.14 have been my stock SPL, or was that version never used on any Dutch Blackstone?
If the spl doesn't match the rom (wrong colours) that isn't much of a problem; I can tell them I tried to update my rom because I thought maybe my screen would work again after I installed the latest ROM... But if I have a SPL that was never even used I don't think they will buy that
According to the wiki there are 2 Dutch roms - one would require a 1.14.0000 spl and the other a 1.54.0000 spl. So I guess either of those would do.
When you flashed the rom from the website, where you still using hspl or uspl? Depending on the rom you flashed you will need to flash the matching spl. Do you have the full notation/naming of the rom you flashed. This should give an indication of which spl you will need.
As much as I appreciate ClydeB1 for assisting you, I fail to see a reason for this thread. A thread already exists for flashing advice, i.e. the dummies guide. Also the HardSPL thread exists and has advice on how to flash back to stock. So depending on your query post in either of these.
The initial query and reason this thread was created has been answered, so no need for this thread to remain open. Thread closed

Stock Tilt 2 SPL

I can't seem to find which SPL comes with the tilt 2. I semi-bricked my phone and I need to flash the stock one back before going to ATT. Right now I flashed back the .87 SPL. Can anyone help?
It doesn't really matter. All Stock SPLs are the same as far as manufacturers are concerned, so long as it doesn't say OliNex I don't think anyone will check.
You could always flash the Shipped Exe from your supplier over the current .87 stock SPL.
Any more problems, please ask in the Hard SPL or ROM flashing thread.

first of all let's check what spl you have right now!!!
with phone off hold volume down key while powering on the phone this should bring you to the bootloader screen (tri-color screen) check to see what spl you have & post it here then we will go from there
or you could try this instead
how to reflash Stock/Shipped SPL - STEP BY STEP - FOR WARRANTY REASONS ONLY!
0. please make sure you already flashed stock ROM and radio, because stock SPL flash is *always* the last step before sending the device in.
1. download the Relocker attachment, extract the zip and run the EXE on your PC
2. if you wish to replace RUU_Signed.NBH that got extracted, feel free to do so, but not necessary (this Hard-SPL will only allow overwrite with a SPL signed by our custom cert). the included one is the 0.79.0000 stock SPL. you also have the option for 0.84.0000 and 0.87.0000, see the attachments.
3. flash
4. verify if it flashed by checking version in tricolour screen, it should say 0.79.0000 (or 0.84.0000 or 0.87.0000), not 0.85.OliNex.
