Quick noob question - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I just rooted and installed the recovery image. Which ROM is a good place to start? Preferably usable for every day use, but I think I'd like a vanilla-ish ROM if there's a good one. I hear a lot of people are using fresh?

Fresh is the one it seems most people use. It is my day-to-day ROM and I love it.
It is not Vanilla - it has all of the HTC apps and Sense, as well as the dev's (flipz) custom tweaks. The dev has a "kitchen" so that you can customize it pretty much anyway you like.
If you want pure Vanilla - the 1.6 ROMS seem to have everything working great with the exception of Bluetooth.
Have fun!

Yea i would start with Fresh or TTG's Rom

Gumb1.5b is nice too!

Alright, thanks guys. I'm gonna flash fresh so that I have a phone for when I go to class here in 40 minutes, and maybe play with AOSP 1.6 later today

Fresh 1.1 here. It has been very stable and suits my daily use.

Fresh 1.1 allll day,no complaints....soon to try the 1.6 donut though.

+1 vote for Fresh 1.1
It's my favourite for daily use so far. I'm also planning to try the AOSP 1.6 ROM(s) soon but if you like the functions of Sense and are not as comfortable with hacking together what you want on your phone (flashing bits and pieces of software to customize it) then I'd go for Fresh 1.1.

[Q.] What's your next ROM?

I have only ran Cyan from day 1 after rooting. It's all I know. I have high expectations in his next stable and will probably be complacent with that build.
However, with that said:
Anyone recently leave a Cyan build?
What did you go?
What did you think of it?
I might flash it, create a nandroid in case I want to mix it up a bit after cyans newest stable comes out.
I'd give one of the Hero roms a go. Some are almost as fast as Cyanogen's buils.
For real? Which ROM? Did you have a 96 partition?
Hey,
I have always had a nandroid backup to Cyans latest ROM, but have lately been trying Mlign or Kings latest hero's. For me they both work very, very well.
Im running a Class 6 4GB SD with 96mb swap.
Im always updating to the latest release, and there always seems to be something better on the horizon, im very interested in the Pulse if that gets some love I will be switching again.
Best thing you can do is keep your stable release as a backup and then flash away, try a few different builds and see what suits you best. Bare in mind that different settings seem to give varying results, but as a rule if a dev gives you reccomended swap size then you should not ignore that, it might seem a pain to re-partition your SD, but moving from a 32mb to 96mb swap made a huge difference for me.
hope this helps you.
i'm kinda in the same boat. I've been using cyan builds since I first rooted my phone and have been thinkin about tryin something diffrent. One of the things that has really detered me from tryin builds based on other devices is some of the basic functions not working in the past like bt or wifi, especially wifi! However after reading this I'm gonna give Kings rom a try while I wait to see what "tricks" cyan has in store for his stable release.
are there any recommedations for the HardSPL
cause i dont want to switch to the DangerSPL
im still at cm 4.0.4 and its a bit buggy at the moment, so i have to wipe and want to try another rom
Now I'm on cyanogen 4.1.9999 waiting for 4.2..... for me il the best rom...

Idk

Noob, kinda

I was considering re-rooting my G-1, and am fully capable of doing it without help, as i had it set up before cupcake's official release, on JF's cupcake rom. Mainly, i would like a 2.x Rom, that EVERYTHING WORKS ON!
I see a lot of different roms to flash, and basically want all the functionality of 1.6 stock plus the added perks of 2.x......
I see tons of roms with either camera not working, unstable, needs a different radio flash etc. Is there a 2.x rom, all inclusive of stock 2.x?? If there was a promise of an ota to eclair, i would just wait for it,but the only talk for the g1 and eclair are rumours....
reading through all the change logs to try and find one that everything works on is making my brain numb, and its all starting to sound like jibberish. I don't care about themes, as i like to set up my own homescreens, wallpa[er, widgets, etc...
any help would be appreciated, as i am not a develper and some of what the change logs show does not make sense to me, so if something in the rom says unstable/not working, i really don't want it to avoid functionality issues...
thanks in advance
JD
There is not a rom that everything works because we are missing the drivers, thats why Camcorder and Video playback dosnt work on any Eclair rom. There are stable roms, like Manup v1.5 and KingxOver (not sure, but KingKlick + Herver = Good rom.) But you wont find a complete Eclair rom on the whole internet, so stop looking for it...want a fast and stable complete Donut rom, i suggest you to try CSDI v1, wich is totally amazing.
Stick with 1.6 custom roms for now until the development of 2.x is fully compatible and problem free. Unless you can provide technical data and good feedback to those developers just play it safe and content.
See my signature, tried and true its one of the fastest 1.6 Roms there is. Try it and you will see with your own eyes.

mytouch 1.6 good clean rom?

i want to know what is a good clean rom to use on my mytouch android 1.6 with out messing it up thanks?
I think you would like Dwang (the one I use now). Pretty fast and really really stable. You don't need to make partitions and care about other stuff.
But, if you like to have some Eclair stuff then, SuperD is a good choice too.

Concerning your post...wrong section, buddy. But it's okay, now you've learned. But go to these, and you should find some good ones. I personally recommend Cyanogen 4.2.14.1 on the g1 android development page(first link). Happy flashing!

Perfect ROM
The best rom that I have ever used, and I have used about 20 roms, is dwang 1.17.1. It is stock donut with some enhancements. Its fast as hell and it will stay fast. Super D is along the same lines as with different enhancements. Good look

Fastest, Most Stable Rom?

My wife's phone died today and I'm going to resurrect my old G1 and give it to her ... I was running CM-something on it and was not happy because it was very slow and crashed a lot ...
So ... what is the fastest and most stable G1 rom? She doesn't care about GPS or special features -- she just wants a phone that will work well.
"We are offering three kind of ROMs: fast, stable and full featured
you can choose any two characteristics:
- fast and stable will not be full featured
- fast and full featured will not be stable
- stable and full featured will not be fast"
It depends much on what you want. First you have to choose the base, i.e. Gingerbread, Froyo, Eclair, Donut, Cupcake?
Then you have to decide if you need apps2ext?
Then you need to decide about additional features / settings.
Some ROMs which are working well in my opinion are:
ezGingerbread/ADS_Magpie, CM 7.1 Magpie, FroyoByLazlo, Enomther's Original Donut, ... there are much more, but I do not know them well.
If she just wants a basic phone that you can text/call/email/browse web then use dwangs 1.6 rom. Never crashes or FC's
Then download opera mini browser
Sent from my T-Mobile G1 using XDA App
or use superD. I find it pretty fast with my ancient of days g1..
You can choose in value of what do you want:
1. Fast games and programmes - froyobylaszlo (or CyanogenMod6, or BiffMod)
2. Beauty graphic - LegSense.
3. Stable - donut 1.6
Choose =)
Hi, so could you tell me which rom you used. or is there some rom you recommend that is fast and stable for the g1, preferebly froyo or gb. eclair is ok too, Thanks

Check out any 1.5 or 1.6 from dev HTCCLAY. Very very smooth and stable.
Well if that's all, I then recommend u to use gingerbread, it's so stable with very very few crashes
Thank me later

I'm sorry, I have used a lot of gingerbread ROMs and Gingerbread is one of the unstable kind. I would prefer, if you're not into lots of apps and only for music, use a Donut ROM, where the phone is made for. Super D is an awesome ROM, good speed, but if you are into apps and want one of the latest firmwares, use FroyoByLazslo with a ICS theme, looks awesome, can't find the thread though. Sorry If you need help doing some installs, I have some useful Tutorials for you:

2.3.7 to 2.1?

Alright, so I've been searching around for a few hours now with no luck on this. I'm a bit new to all this and haven't really messed with my Hero in about a year except for updating Cyanogenmod every now and then.
I'm currently running CM7 and was trying to get my HTC Hero (CDMA) back to stock (or at least to a point where I can use HTC Sync). I've tried flashing a few ROMs, but I either get stuck in a boot loop or they fail to install. I'm not sure if I'm right in saying this, but is it because I'm running 2.3.7 and trying to install older ones from 2.1? I've looked for guides on how to downgrade, but I can't seem to find any; almost everything I find is really outdated.
I don't necessarily need to go to 2.1 if I can flash a ROM that allows me to access HTC Sync, but I haven't had much luck finding that either. If someone could point me in the right direction or tell me where I'm going wrong I would greatly appreciate it.
htc sync is just the software that installs all your drivers automatically but if your on an aosp rom you can still install them individually. If you really want to go to stock that badly id just use nfx stock its rooted but still completely stock.
The reason I was trying to get a ROM with HTC Sync was so I could use a method from theunlockr website (it won't allow me to post a link).
Anyway, I finally managed to flash Zero Hero Sense to it, but it runs so slow. I now have HTC Sync on it and I'm pretty sure I know how to unroot it from here, but I was wondering before I do if there is a stable 2.3 ROM that is really quick; I'm only searching for performance.
Kushdeck or jaybob are the fast, But using Aosp's 2.2 version 9.9.2 was the fastest compared to any other rom I've used.

Thanks! Trying them now.
with zero hero it seems to me you need to let it run for a little while, mine smoothed out after about a day of running it and is actually quite snappy for a rom that should max out our devices
or you can try cyanogenmod stable, its quite fast

Yeah, that's what I originally had on there, but I wanted some kind of change. I've got jaybob on there now and I enjoy it; very simple.
Maybe I should try leaving zero hero on there a bit longer, I really liked the look of it.
atm

this rom is superb. no force closes and runs snappy and beautiful
since it's gingerbread i'd suggest installing another keyboard.
froyo's keyboard was so much better

I've been using Kushdeck and loving it so far so it has my vote between deck and jaybob.
Zero Hero Sense gets my vote!
