How do i install twidroid? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone...I've been using twidroid for a while, but recently, I've wiped to install a new rom openeclair, and when trying to update the basic/free twidroid or installing twidroid pro (various versions) from my SD card, I keep getting application not installed...I tried going back to super d and I still kept getting the same error..I've tried fix_permissions, repair ext filesystems, and fix apk uid mismatches...I really like this app, and I want to use it. If some one could help, that'd be great. Thanks.

Might be a problem with the app that your trying to install.Instead of updating the app keep the version you have.

Try another eclair and see if you can install it.

Sorry to tell you, but Twidroid has been having with ALL eclair roms (other than stock).

Did you wipe and repair your ext partition after flashing? maybe you have a lingering remnant of your super D rom or another one.

Is the app copy-protected? Doesn't explain why it'd work before, but just making sure.
And give Seesmic a try if you can't get this resolved.

Nope, it isn't. Not the biggest fan of seesmic. I like twidroid since I don't have a Data plan, when I'm on wifi it can load up to 250 tweets, and when I'm bored w.o wifi, I can open up twidroid and read the previously loaded tweets. On other twitter apps, everytime you usually open the application, it refreshes, and that's useless wehn I'm with out wifi..
Also, ON TOPIC, I went back to a donut build, specifically Super D 1.7. Twidroid and Twidroid Pro used to work well on these I could install and update. However, now it just says, "Twidroid Pro could not be installed on this phone."
I DID wipe, repair EXT, fix permissions, and all other nonsense.

If you still can't get it working you can always try repartitioning the entire sd card.
Backup files, Nandroid, etc. I'd then try a fresh flash before you restore nandroid just to see if there was something else interfering with your current backups.

Without making things too complicated, and to simply get you back up and running. just flash another ROM....
That way you will have your phone back in working order and you can do some more research regarding ROMs. Keep in mind that many of the Hero ROMs are still somewhat buggy but are coming along nicely. The good news is there are many Hero ROMs to choose from so picking another will likely fix your acore process force close.
im seriously ready to shoot this phone I wiped, cleared the ext 3 times and if i ever get to the OS cuz most of the time Im stuck at HTC and the little hero keep looping. I will wipe ext and alt wipe and try to load up a different rom

Yeah..i think that would be a good idea. You can try cyanogen's rom. Probably the 3.9.10 version, which is a pretty fast and stable rom, and then just get Ted417's Hero theme(which I think is the best Hero theme out there) flashed on there to give you that Hero look minus the widgets of course, if that's the look you're going for.

Hi there, I'm having the same problem.
Hero was fine until I did a factory reset (I'd cleverly managed to lock myself out of it via the security swipe).
Anyway, did the factory reset and now I get the android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly problem.
I'm not that keen on installing other ROMs at this point, just hoping you can share your solution.
I'm guessing but it seems to be connected to my contact card within contacts. (If i wipe the info in that and log out of facebook the issue stops).

What I did was load a different rom non hero first, than updated to a hero rom and it worked. Because I couldn't figure out how to get rid of it lol. But personally I stopped using the hero rom, there to slow, and missing to much stuff such as bluetooth and etc.

for what its worth. hero itself is not a theme. and neither is cyanogens roms. when you said that "this theme is garbage" you may have been talking about the wrong item.
also to get rid of a rom, just wipe, plain and simple.

Fastest way to get apps reinstalled after flashing new rom?

I've been flashing the cyanogen roms but only once every couple versions because it takes so long to get my apps reinstalled. I'm curious about how you guys manage this.
Thanks
U can create a folder with all ur apks in it and adb push them to ur sd if u use apps2sd
I haven't been able to partition my card properly so I'm not using Apps2SD at the moment. I spent a long time tonight wrestling with this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=500387
I gave up after 2 tries. I think I'll be trying this one later:

UPDATED 05/17/09 Easy Restore Apps from your pc using bat file
I believe "AppManager Pro" from the market has the ability to batch reinstall .apk's. That sounds like a better solution because if you get a bootloop, wipe ext and then push apk's back you'll probably have a few issues, but this reinstsalls them completely, so it should work 100%.

Why do you need to reinstall apps after flashing new CM version? I've been flashing every single version that came out since 3.6.1 and did not have to wipe a single time.

Market Not Working on Any ROM

My market stopped working while running enomther's AOSP-1.6_r1.4 + ADP DRD20 w/ v2.5.1 - Expansion-Pack.
Then I install CyanogenMod v4.2.14.1 ... still no market.
Next manup456's Eclair_2.1-v1.5... no market
then eViL_nano_SenSe_v2.0.1... no go
So, I try going back to stock... now running T-Mobile 1.5 and the market is working fine... any thoughts anyone?

Can you actually open it and it crashes or does it say it's not installed? I've been through a similar process of going through roms trying to get my market (mine says its not installed) back without success.
I think it had something to do with using apps2sd and then having my card get messed up, but I'm not really sure.

The market opens fine but anything I try to downloads never starts.... just hangs... Saying "Starting Download" but never starts.
I tried reformatting my SDCard... Removed all partitions in GPart, reformatted the whole SDcard in window (not quick), repartitioned in GPart... same.
Then tried a different SDCard... same.
Well... just flashed RA-sapphire-v1.5.2 and install CyanogenMod v4.2.14.1
and the market is working fine.... odd.... thanks.
next time that happens if it does an easy fix:
go to settings - manage apps - and clear the data and any updates if there are any...
happens when you apply some themes...

Well, that's just the market being itself....
Some versions of the market totally suck
The only version I liked was the green one with the curvy stuff
Never has failed any downloads
Seriously,, works every single time!
It comes with a few roms but you gotta make sure you disable market updating so that you stay on it

As writes in the general thread nothing regarding the external sound works. You tried to play a music file right? For now we have problems enabling sound and there is no fix for this yet.
Nope, wasn't trying to play music. I know that sound does not work.. It was doing this on startup without me opening anything...
I updated everythin to all latest, and now it quit..
Oddly enough, when I installed the latest everything, I let it try to make it's own data img, anf it was successful.... No more data img from 2.1 needed for me..

Does this happened with 2.1 data.img? Very strange i havent had any FC since early 2.1 builds. :S Anyway, does this FC interupts/crash something crucial that you use? If no then leave it as it is.

but HTC diamond (P3700)can!
I get this error when trying to view images with the latest Android installed. Thought it was normal.
I get this error (android.process.media) on a regular basis (once or twice a minute whilst I'm using the phone, lots lots more in marketplace).
I'm using DIAM100 with 2.1 and all the latest builds
Is this normal? It seems to be stopping marketplace from downloading anything?
Any hints on how to stop it?
Thanks!

If I delete this off the root of my SD card, should it fix the FC issue? I can run CM6 with no FCs, yet when I switch to a different ROM I get them. Advice?
I had the same issue with the android.media.process FC, but once i deleted the mediaprovider.apk its been running so smooth. Thanks man

Android Market Unstable?

Hello all,
After flashing CyanogenMod the other day, I decided I didn't like it too much. ( Mind you, I just use my phone for basic phone stuff, so please don't flame me for it. xD ) So I used a nandroid to go back to my original (rooted) stuff.
However, in doing this, it seems that it messed up my Market app somehow.
Whenever I try to search, open, or do anything involving the Market App, it'll say: Attention. A network error has occurred. Retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen.
It's been like this for a while now. I can use internet, voice-to-text, and anything else that requires data ( not even WiFi works with Market ), but not Market.
What can I do to fix this?
Full wipe. Fresh install of rom+gapps.
Yea its Me Again With The
Modified Hero
@laie - he said he nanded back to rooted stock
@OP - try the nand restore again? Otherwise you could try adb shell fix_permissions?

It tells me that "fix_permissions: not found"
Edit: I've got it fixing now, will edit with update.
Edit(2): It didn't help, sadly.
I don't even remember, but does rooted stock 1.5 allow you to install non-market apps? If so, go find a market 2.3.6 apk on xda or google. Delete the one you have, boot into recovery wipe cache and then reboot, install the app - see if that'll work.
Nope, that didn't work sadly... Ironically, my Market worked perfectly without the updates installed. Is it possible just to block all updates for the Market apk?
this might work for you. a friend was having similar problem. this is what i did (note, i really really think that it was pure coincidence but...) go to SETTINGS -> APPLICATIONS -> MANAGE APPS. locate Market, if Force Stop is not greyed out. then click it, then click Clear Data.
like i said, his was having the same problem, i really think that it may have been a coincidence, but maybe not.

Yes, you need to delete the system app "marketupdater.apk". Also, if you go into settings/manage apps/all/market - can you click the button "uninstall updates"? If not, do you know what market version you had that worked? If so try to find and install that one using the same steps as I mentioned before. If that doesn't work, I'm at a loss.
Also what ngholson just posted is a good idea along with clear cache from the same menu.
I hope you get it figured out, good luck.

Laie I was just telling you, don't get all frisky. If you read the OP again, you'll see he WANTS to be on stock 1.5. I couldn't tell you why lol. Maybe you forgot (it's been forever) but stock and sense based ROMs already contain gapps. You only flash those on AOSP based ROMs, so he can't reflash gapps. If he wiped and then nand restored it would've restored /system which is where the market would live in a stock ROM. His issue was likely a market auto-update which did not agree with old ass donut stock. Who knows. I wasn't bashing you, and I'm not now, calm down. Hopefully this info helps you help someone later. Peace.
OP- I have ONE MORE idea. Go grab a themed market zip from xda member "pendo" - he has green, blue, and red. They should flash from recovery. Delete your current market app FIRST, and clear cache and dalvik cache in recovery, flash and reboot. Good luck.
EDIT: 2 ideas I guess, copy the nand backup to your computer, find the "marketupdater.apk" in /system/app and delete it out of the nand. Copy that new nand to the same place as the current one you have and try to wipe all then restore that newish one.... I actally have NO idea if you can alter a nand or the system.img it contains, but it may be worth a shot. You could also just give up, and get gingerbread, because it's AWESOME.

Again, I'm sorry for not mentioning that.
I redid everything on it, the only thing I haven't touched is the radio file.
When I tried CyanogenMod 6 at the start of this thread, it had me flash 2.42.01.04.27. Could that be the problem?
And I'm terribly sorry for the delay in replying. Other issues are stealing my time.

That's about it. I think it's all worked flawlessly until the radio, but I'm not sure. If I'm missing any info, please let me know.
maybe consider starting completely over. download a new rom, i recommend aospcmod. download the latest version of gapps at the same time. if you don't already have it install ROMManager from errr. damnit your market doesn't work... hopefully you already have it. Open rom manager and install a custom recovery (i recommend clockworkmod) once that is done copy both the new rom and gapps zips to your sdcard, reboot to recovery (either manually or using rommanager) wipe everything. then select 'choose zip from sdcard' (or similar, can't remember exact verbiage) and install your ROM, then before you let it reboot, then use the same option and install gapps as well, then reboot. follow setup and it should work fine.
