3.5mm plug issue: Auto starting Music Player - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to disable the music player from starting up automatically when I plug a speaker/head phone into the 3.5mm plug? I don't know what the phone is doing, but I don't always want to play music when I plug in a speaker to the phone.
jchap2k

im also having that issue and also the slightest movement of the headphone jack makes the music player constantly skip songs and its very annoying. We need to find a fix for this.

This also happen on bluetooth as well. When i get in the car and phone connects to radio the media player starts as well. Sucks, i haven't figured out how to stop this media player from auto starting.

? What, your guys music players starts automatically when you plug in the headphones?
Mine doesnt, and I wish it did. lol

Had this problem as well. Was more noticable when JIT was enabled on CM5.0b2. Haven't noticed it on 5.0b3 with JIT off, but that doesn't mean it's fixed... very annoying. As a work around (which might be why I'm no longer noticing it) I created a playlist with a single, short sound effect as the only 'song' in the playlist. I never use the default music player, or any player for music on my phone for that matter, so this was a pretty simple one-time work around. I remember when we had a very similar, if not the same problem, on Cyanogen's G1 rom, and I had used this same workaround.

Mine did this on the stock ROM. Now I'm on CM5B3+highmem, and haven't noticed it yet.

I first noticed this problem on CM5B3. Happens any time I connect the phone to my speakers.

Weird, my Nexus doesn't do this. In fact I just added a feature (not released yet) to have it as an option! So, WTF?

I can't recall for sure, but I believe my phone did this when I had the stock rom on it. But since I started using Cyanogen's rom, I have yet to experience this.

I wonder why some experience this and some don't. Did you try twisting the plug around once plugged in? Plug movement seems to trigger it for me, but once it starts I can't get it to stop until I just unplug the phone from the speakers.

Mine is completely random, and to make things worse, it's doing it to Pandora as well. I'll run through my '6 skips' an hour in mere minutes, and on accident. Very, very annoying... It happens not only randomly, but sometimes when I pick up the phone, or touch the 3.5mm jack in any way, but not 'every time' I touch it... it's incredibly odd... I really hope it's not a hardware fault

Ive actually been wishing for that option on my Droid lol. Lucky!

Are you guys using the stock headset? i think it only does it when you do. If you use others, it doesnt?

Mine skips with a similar setup. Sometimes twisting the cable around in the jack helps. Still annoying.

I have seen this 'issue' reported on 3 other phones so far, the Tmobile Pulse (UK), Hero, G1, and now the Nexus One.
However the main thread i can think of was over at the MoDaCo forums, for the pulse.
http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile-pulse-pulse-modaco-com/301335/the-headphone-bug/

I have the same problem too. Gets real annoying when listing to an audiobook that's 10hrs long and it all of a sudden skips to the beginning. I think it has to do with how the headphone controls are implemented in hardware - shorting out the channels together or to ground - I lost my original headphones - and haven't wired up a pair to test. I think that "cheaper" headphone cables have less insulation between the channels which then shorts. I noticed this with a cheaper 1/8" to 1/8" adapter.. vs a sony gold plated one. (the channels were in separate insulation on the sony one). If there was only a way to turn off the headphone controls in the default media player, then it wouldn't happen... maybe i'll just remove it from the phone all together.

G1 Music Player Motion Activated?

OK, I'm guessing its not just me, but when my G1 is in my pocket, and I have the headphones connected(this only happens with the headphones in), it will randomly jump to different tracks, pause, stop, and pretty much be useless. I didn't have a clue my G1 could even do this, so how do I stop it? I genuinely had no idea what was happening until I started flicking my phone and realised it was controlled by the a motion sensor. It makes my music player pretty much useless though!
Thanks.
I am having the same problem. first Tmo rep replaced the phone thinking that the usb connection was compromised, but the same thing is happening with the replacement phone. tried several pair of headphones, and I have two adapters that both do it. Its the adapter. the wires must be cheap... its under HTC warranty, so the tmo rep is sending me another.
Yeah is a problem with your headphones if you got the phone before tmo started to include the adapters or the adapter if you just recently bought th ephone. I had it happen with the original headset I had and an adapter that i was using for a while. havent' had any trouble wth the new adapter that i have. My brother bought the phone and doesn't use the wired headset so he gave me his new headphones and now it works great.
I have the same problem both with my headphones and when using the 3 in 1 connector in my car, really frustrating, no issues with Tune Wiki but can't use that as the player will just randomly start anyway, tried 2 hard resets. Phone didn't do this for the 1st month or so, I don't see how it can be the connector.
Does it work?
I am new to this phone, however i tried turning the phone in all direction, plus shaking it, my music player would not change song. May i know is there a option to activate the motion sensor?

no. not untill someone develops an app that can handle using the motion sensor to change track, which i'm sure is very possible. It is not an option in the standard player, or any player available atm. (as far as i know)

[APP]Audio Out for Docks

NOTE: Samsung's Car Home and Desk Home apps are now officially available from the Market. These versions work with the audio out and should likely be used instead of the apps I posted below.

Many of us have been upset that the audio-out doesn't work on the docks as promised, but it seems that the answer is as easy as needing the right app! These are not my apps and not am I hosting them (I can if needed to, but I expect this to be a short term need once the real apps are available). I'm just passing on the information that a forum member, Vivified, pointed out to us in a different thread. The Samsung dock apps enable the functionality we desire, however they are currently not available in the Market to the Epic, likely due to our build.prop version not yet being updated for protected apps downloadable. The links below have been verified to enable the audio-out on both docks. There is a speaker icon on each app that needs to be tapped if the audio is coming from the phone still, that will mute the phone speaker and only give the audio-out from the dock.
I have only personally verified the output from the car dock app, though others have tried the desk dock. All other functionality, at the surface level, seems normal with these apps, but I present no guarantees.

Just tried both apps with the desktop dock and navigation mount, they both work as advertised.
Only caveat I've noticed is that if you switch from one dock to the other, you have to kill the music player otherwise it won't output to the lineout.
Any chance of ever getting Pandora to work with this?

Awesome, thanks!
I had to hold down the "Home" button to switch over to Pandora, since while docked the car/dock application takes over the device (even takes Pandora out of the Notifications).
Now I'm happy! I can finally use my car and desktop docks the way I wanted to from the beginning!
It would be nice to have a customisable set of programs for the screen... I'm sure we can pull the app apart and put whatever we want in there, but truly customisable through a menu would be ideal.
I didn't get a chance to try the car speakers yesterday, I realised my aux cable isn't long enough so I need to get an extension.
I think now that the initial buzz of a feature being fixed has worn off, I realize something very disturbing...
The audio out sounds terrible. It's all scratchy, like you're watching an old RealPlayer movie on an old-school Sound Blaster.
There's definitely some kind of downsampling going on and it sucks.

Mine didn't sound perfect, but was pretty good. I could only notice a little static during the silence between songs when I had it cranked. I will compare the amount of static between the dock and the aux cable plugged straight into the phone. I will let you know what I find.

thanks alot i can finally use my dock works flawlessly i don't get why this wasn't mentioned in the docks manual.
I noticed that too. Part of the problem is the charging causing some kind of distortion. Take out the usb cable if you don't need to charge your phone. It will make sound better.

I have had my htc for over 2 weeks now and iv realised that from time to time when using headphones or aux then music player either skips the song when playing/jitters and also just pauses it self so i have to press play then it stops again!
This is with the stock android music, htc music player, poweramp also deezer so its not just one app.
Anyone else with this problem? or solution? thanks

I listen to music every day with stock player and other players. No such problems with my unit. Did you try different headphones? Inserted all the way in?
Seems like a headphone jack issue. The jitters, random pauses & song skips I experienced all of them when I used a cheap headphone on my old HTC device. replaced it with the official one and it worked flawlessly.

I'm having the exact same problem with my new HTC one. The HTC does have headphone jack issues because my jawbone up does not work with it. However, I'm using a very good set of cans so it's not a headphone quality problem. If they do only work with stock or beats then the phone is going back.

having this issue with skullcandy 50/50s. Wizdroid, headset blocker, poweramp headset controls off. Nothing fixes it.
Same here, Using an Parrot Zik.... over bluetooth with beyondpotcast, poweramp etc.. Got the impression it's caused by other processes going on im the background.
Update, Just tested it with airplane mode on, no jitters then.
Okay, I think I have this issue. At first I thought it was the custom rom, then I thought Pandora was buggy, cuz it would skip six songs and cause me to hit my limit. Also, volume rockers didn't work right, sometimes pressing the volume would open the voice search or make a phone call, or more likely the phone thought I was holding down a headset button. I'll give Headset Blocker a shot.
Other than this, my phone is perfect.
I have this problem intermittently. I was on a plane recently and the songs would play for a minute or something and skip or stop. However right now it doesn't do it. I am using stock headphones. It also does it with other media players, not just stock. I thought I had found some feature on the phone to change the songs but no, it does this and I have no idea why.
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem with my HTC One. When I'm using the stock headset it fast forwards, skips the music in all audio players but when I plug in standard headphones without a mic, sennheiser cx300ii, all those issues disappear. Right now I can't say if its the faulty socket on the phone or the headset problem since I don't have any other headsets with a mic to test it with.

Yea, the few calls I made had the same result. Everyone who I spoke with using the headphones said that they can't hear me clearly and there is a lot of noise.

Hi all,
I discovered I have this problem while I was at the gym. I tried downloading the Wizdroid app but that did nothing for me. I then tried to use a different set of headphones with and without a mic and that solved the problem.
Seems like the control button and mic on my HTC headphones has broken, which is a shame 'cus they were good headphones
Hope this helps.

[Q] audio port dying?

Today I plugged in my phone to my speakers to listen to music and its playing mostly on the speakers just fine. But every so often the sound comes out of the phone for a second instead of the speakers then goes back to the speakers. Is this just my phone dying after (almost) two years or is this some kind of bug? Anyone seen this before? I recently install AOIP with the whitescreen kernel.

OK, thanks! Good to know.
I had the same thoughts about my audio port crapping out on me. I bought an fm transmitter/ charger dock for my car so I can stream music over the web to my car stereo when i drive. however the music player stops randomly. this seems to be an issue for a number of people after looking through the webs about it.
not trying to hijack the thread (but i am) is this similar to what you experince? i dont think it is becuase my music -pauses-, it does not continue to play through the regular speaker.
It seems according to a few posts ive read, that a change in the data connection is what causes the music to stop. going from 4g -> 3g or what have you. and since i only have this issue when im trying to listen in the car, riding down the road, i can see a correlation. and its not just when playing streamed media, it will pause when playing stored files from the memory card too.
fyi - AOIP -6/30 i think it is.

Galaxy Note 5- Audio Glitches When Listening To Music

Audio issue - please help
I just bought the note 5 from tmobile 4 days ago. It's an amazing phone, however I am having an issue with the audio. I'm not sure if it's something internal or if my earphones are broken. Basically when I play music through my earphones, the song plays normally. But at random moments I can hear random noises. The noises come in at random moments in the song.
I noticed this pretty soon, but didn't make much of it at first. Now, on my bus ride to school it's finally gotten to a point where I can't take it. The music gets warped for like a millisecond, but that happening multiple times in a song just got a bit too much.
I have not checked if this happens when using the speakers or using another pair of earphones. I'm using the pair that came in the box. As I said I'm on the bus, so I can't blast music through my speakers. However I was playing music yesterday through speakers in my room and now that I think about it I didn't notice any warping. When I get to school I'll borrow someone's earphones to see if my pair is just broken.
But yeah are any of you having this problem? It's a big deal cause I listen to music a lot through my earphones.
Love your thread, man. This happened to me too but I wasn't 100% sure and I couldn't reproduce it. Now I know it's a problem. I just hope it's on everyone's Note5 too because then it would be a software problem that'll disappear soon. Otherwise we may have to go for exchanges. What ROM are you on? I'm 100% stock N920CXXU1AOH2.

Really hoping this is a software issue..
I just registered to say I'm having the same exact issue when listening to music through the headphone jack no matter if I use headphones or the Aux input in my car. I hope this is a software issue and gets fixed soon.
I haven't seen this issue yet but I havent been listening to much music lately anyway. Will check it and get back. I am more concerned about the S-Pen sensitivity issue. Also started a thread for it here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/help/samsung-galaxy-note-5-s-pen-sensitivity-t3205683
It was happening to me on stock not rooted with Bluetooth and pandora. It was only happening with WiFi on but I haven't noticed it since I'm rooted on custom kernel and rom
I think it happens only on certain frequencies because when I listen to podcasts I never have the issue.
Yes I'm having the same problem when playing music through the auxiliary port or the phone's speaker it's self. Randomly sounds like someone has the hiccups in the background. Have you found a fix?

From what I've come across, it seems like an issue with VBR MP3 files. I was able to fix it using Poweramp as my music player, as it uses a different audio processor than the stock Samsung one.
Also, the update released a few weeks ago also seems to have fixed the issue.
I had the same issue in the older firmware of my Note 5 920I. The latest update OJD fixes the problem. Not facing anymore glitches now. It's definitely a software bug and has been solved by Samsung. Please update your device normally. No root required.
Use Don't Pause
There's an app called don't pause. What it does is when youre listening to streaming music that when you get a notification that you wont get the gap in space (pause) in the music. The paid version removes ads. Ive been using it since the KitKat days with my Note 3 and it works well.

can I add radio app to not 5 ?
I face audio prob too. Note5 no root, stock 5.1.1.
When I feed digital signal to ext. dac, if use Scale up 385khz then pop and click happen (i use Neutronmp).
When scale up 88khz this phenomenon reduce and when no scale up used, sound is smooth.
Also hf player upscale to 192khz is ok.
Note2 and Lenovo A7-30 and S4 is okay when do the same thing with same neutronmp version.
No solution till now
Depending on if the issue is with your actual audio or if its coming from the music player will be two different things. I always recommend doing a quick restart on your phone or trying to leave it off for a little bit if its having any issues. Usually this will work if there is an overheating issue. You should also try doing an update which can fix problems in the software. If its with your actual music player then these are some of the best music players for the galaxy note 5 hands down https://fliptroniks.com/best-music-app-for-galaxy-note-5/

Hey Guys,
I am also experiencing the same issue when listening to music via the headphone jack. Something that I noticed was, when the screen is switched on, it works perfectly. As the screen is switched off, the music gets warped and scratched.
Anyone found a solution for this problem?
