I have an idea for this Forum...! What do you think?

Hi guys,
Like many of you, I come here to get the latest and greatest firmware updates for my Wizard (8125 for me).
>>> Summiter is king! <<<
One thing I noticed about our Wizard firmware threads, though, is that they are such a mess, and the threads are almost unbearable to sort through.
It's a wonderful community, and friendly posts are fun, but please.. let us try not to 'pollute' serious threads that pertain to new Firmware releases.
When someone like Summiter posts a new firmware, it's wonderful to read the threads to see if other users are experiencing problems, errors, or bizarre behaviour.
By reading other people's experiences, I knew (for example) not to install the previous firmware.
However, did I really have to read through TWELVE pages of things like:
"I've installed it 5 minutes ago!!! So far, so good!!"
or
"I have been using it for 8 minutes. I like it!!"
or
"I think it's stable! But I am not sure... it's still installing!!"
and maybe we should make a thread devoted to "Who thinks Summiter is God!?"
I will post there, for sure! Set it up!
But let's all please try to pitch in and keep his new firmware threads as clean as we can.
If you are excited because your Wizard booted up in 45 seconds and not 3 minutes the first time... that is WONDERFUL! Share it with your wife!!
...but please at least test/try the thing before posting.
The cleaner these threads are, the more useful they will be.
And not only that, 20% of the threads are from users complaining about other users who don't read the posts! I love the, "Hey N00B! You have to read all 16 pages! The answer is in this thread!" posts....
....I hope you guys agree with me. I'm not a mod; not an admin; not even a frequent poster... but like you, I am a PocketPC enthusiast and power user. Like all of you, I am also pressed for time.
I am all for "chit chat", and like to meet new people, but when a new ROM gets released, PLEASE let's try to be a little mature, and at least let us use our devices for... a day(?!) before we post up the:
"I'm downloading it now!!"
type of posts...?
I know it's exciting. I love new ROMs as much as you. But if we all exhibit a little bit of self-restraint, I think we would all benefit from leaner and meaner threads, full of USEFUL info.
I'd love to hear your thoughts. I sure don't mean to insult anyone!
Thanks,
Mike
Michael - Your idea is spot on however I have never seen an open forum anywhere that is as disciplined as we would both like it. All the same it is worth raising the point so that maybe a few contibuters will think twice before making the post. My pet hate is when the thread changes mid way and there is no way of knowing about the change unless you have the time to plough through 18 pages.
Hey there,
Thanks for the words of encouragement!
I agree with you... most open forums end up going off on tangents, and so forth.
I'm only a member of about a dozen forums, and I really think that of all the threads in all the forums, the most 'crowded' threads are Summiter's ROMS.
....and the worst part of that, is that of alllll the threads I read on all my forums, I think his is the most important of all to me!
The best Forum for 'lack of noise' is VBA Express. Wow, it's increadle. Questions - Answers - Clarifications - Thank yous... then you mark the thread as solved.
Unbelieveable. New topic midway? You open a new thread. Sweet.
All the off-topic fun stuff goes into the Misc/Bar & Grill/Lounge type of threads.
Well, at least a few people have viewed this thread.
I am just trying to do my part to give us all - N00bs and pros alike -- a more efficient and enjoyable experience here.
I LOVE to hear about other user's experiences (good and bad!) with new ROMS and so forth... but like you and everyone else, it's tough to sort through 18 pages of some silliness and topic-changes to get to the "meat"!
Well, hopefully a few others will agree with us, and we'll have some nice, clean, and enjoyable threads...
Now I am off to read about the latest ROM... I hope it's as stable as 2.17!
Adios!
Mike
Great! Amazing!
I just started reading your 1st post 20 seconds ago, and I think it's great! I'll let you know what I think when I'm done reading it! Then I'll let you know what I think when I look at the replies! Oh, and do you know where I can get a stylus that writes in invisible ink!?
I think this is a good concept in principle, however you're missing out on one important aspect. When a new ROM is released, I'll admit I'm not usually an early adopter. I look for problem reports from others to know if I should jump in. But its also important to know that a few folks are trying it. No news is good news usually, so if a bunch of folks end up saying "yeah I tried it" then no negative follow-ups, maybe the ROM is OK. If there's only a few problem reports, how do I know those weren't the only ones who tried the ROM...see what I mean? Oh yeah, and there may be 18 pages of crap, but at least the crap is short and sweet...

Hosting ROM files

Hi everyone. I have created a website with alot of the latest ROMS from developers of xda-developers.com . I have done it in appreciaton of the developers out there who give us the opportunity to make a good device into a great device. I don't want any donations from anyone because this is just my little contribution to xda-developers.
The site is http://www.diamond-dazz.com and it accepts multiple connections from download managers and seems to be a faster alternative to RapidShare.
If any developers wish me to host some of there files please feel free to contact at [email protected] and I will endevour to upload them to my website.
Cheers
Darren
Nice initiative!
If you develop this into a ROM Encyclopedia, I'll sticky it!
This should serve as an example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1951469&postcount=3

I wish I knew how to create a web encyclopedia. I would do it in a flash but because of my extremely poor HTML skills I don't think I will be able to do it. I will try and learn anyway. But in the mean time I will try and retreive all the Cooked Roms out there so people can download it fast.
Cheers

If you want to make a web based reference, good idea!
But I was more likereferring to having the reference here, in your first post, as the one I gave you as example!

No worries. I will give it a go tommorrow. I have got alot more researching to do and hopefully I will get a decent compliment of developers listed.
Thanks for the knudge in the right direction tnyynt. It gives me something to aim for.
Cheers
Darren
What about using the MediaWiki Software for your encyclopedia? Sounds like a viable way to do things - and all you need is a MySQL DB and a fairly recent PHP installation which pretty much any hosting service will offer?
Ok, untill thing start going smooth and building something, I'm moving this to Diamond general.
PM me if it's ready and you want it back here!

FTP-Mirror for sharing

.
If there is any questions PM me
wow, this is very, very kind of you!! I just want to thank you and I hope that we'll have in future then faster d/l than this f*****g rapidshare "speed" thanks a lot!! (one tip, perhaps you post just one post in each thread, so that the chefs really know that you are doing this, I can imagine that they dont have time to look around in the rom-section, rather than cooking on and on)
Greets and respect! cad^^
Hmm, I thinks that cross posting is not allowed. But if Mods dont mind I could do that.
ah, no! I didnt know thats not allowed! Sorry, then better dont do it, they will see it.... I hope. And when Davideuck wants to release a new ROM, I'll post this thread for him (he's my favourite chef). But thanks again for your help!!
Greets, cad^^
Thanks a lot for putting this up!
I've uploaded a few of Davideuck's latest roms since he's cool with it.
Due some problems that I had with my server config I was forced to update file locations. For this reason, all links to my files are failing at the moment so who ever has linked files directly need to update link to match new structure.
Sorry for the trouble this is causing to you.
Now setup should be stable and its not messing up anything and whole folder structure is under my part of that server.

[PROJECT] Android for Touch Pro 2 "Let's make this happen"

Cool stuff.....
I love Android
Props for starting the thread....
BUT....
I CANT STAND AMERICAN STREET SLANG!!!!
ITS DUMBING DOWN THE WORLD AS IT EATS IN EVERY TV SHOW AND RADIO BROADCAST!
Kids in London all walking around "word up pimpin'?"
Word UP PIMPING!!! PIM<PING!!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I mean - pimps are a BAD part of society. They are only there because of the stupid laws that mean there is no such thing as a SAFE LEGAL sex worker.
But Android WILL ROCK!!!
id like to help but i havent programed in 6 years... and i kind of fail at using linux on my laptop. (so i use windows) i havent yet used android but i assume its alot better a os then winmobile... wm6.5 ect makes me wish i has symbion on my phone at times... just because of how laggy it is.
This thread is great, but could someone post a quick status update? Ideally, the first post should indicate a few main points so people don't have to read all of the chatter to find the basic info.
A few things that would be nice to have on post #1:
Overview of project
Status
Blocking issues
Help needed from community
(dare I say) ETA?
Is this just a wishful thread or is something really happening ?
+ for the project.
i agree with paulbram!!
For a fully working Android port to TP2 I would definitely donate some cash!
And probably more than me would do the same.
I just got my TP2 last week. Must say that i am liking. Anyways wanna give out a shout out to all my peeps, chuck up the deuce and to all them chicken heads out there, keep flapping your gums!
p.s. ^ that was just a joke. But hopefully we do get some developing going on with this badboy.
Please keep in mind those of us on CDMA networks!
Thanks!

Here here. I'm brand new to this stuff for phones, but I have a ton of linux/windows experience and an HTC tp2 so if you need me to break (ok hopefully not) my (CDMA) phone testing something, I'm down.
Who is actually doing work on this? I mean, we can have a thread about this and talk all day, but if nobody works on it. Wish I had the knowledge to program this..
Not just a wishlist
this thread was started because the other 30 pages posted were on a poll thread...cr2 i think is to a point where he/she is now lab testing. i think the got dumps from both GSM & CDMA.anyway, i can't wait to get this port...

New online social community for gadgets and phones

Hey guys check this out. Social networking site for gadgets and phones we worked for years is now live. I'd love to hear any feedback so we can improve our site to give you a fun and better experience. Your feedback is very much appreciated either if it is positive or negative.
www.taketake.com
What do you guys think of the site?
Add a forum section for people who need help tips or have problems with their gadgets.. ohh wait, that's what xda is for also, add it to taptalk, I'll try it then
Another thing 'unlocking cool badges after gaining point'- for motivation to get the best one, to make it competetive? Don't think that older people would be intrested, and I am only 16. But you know, everyone has their own 2 pence to add there are more opinions out there.
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDApp. Pure Madness.

Sweet site desing man! Looks great! Honestly! I think I'll check it out a bit more now...
Edit: Ok I've had a good look around so I'm ready to offer feedback firstly, the site design if clean and simple! Great! Keep that UI consistent across the whole site and it will be a winner. I'm finding Facebook too cluttered, and this is simple and elegant!
This will really work well as a concept if it takes off, so you need as many users as possible. I'll help out by tipping some of those sites. Other readers here on XDA, if you like the idea, I suggest you do the same This could be really handy when buying new gadgets, and maybe even save all these experience threads on XDA.
It needs re organization and more information but congrats on your efforts

Thanks for the feedback! We did everything to make the UI clean and simple so users will not be confused. Comparing us to Facebook is an honor since Facebook is very established and almost all people around the globe is using it.
Technology is a big trend all over the web. People now a days choose to shop their gadgets online, they can share their experience and reviews through our site.
Thanks for helping us out in spreading the word to promote our site. We really appreciate it. I love the idea and will do the same as you suggested
We'll keep you posted for any development we have based on the feedbacks we are getting. Looking forward on meeting you our site.

Thank you and we really appreciate it. Can you elaborate on the re-organization so we can improve the site. Once the site is on beta you can view more information but for the meantime we are getting feedbacks to improve before we officially launch it. We also have a video you can watch for the overview of the site. We'll keep you posted once the site is on beta.
