not sure what to do please help - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So a few weeks ago i installed fresh 1.1 and loved it. then the kernel came out and i installed that over fresh and couldn't believe how fast my phone was. unfortunately after having the kernel and setcpu my battery life was suffering too much so i got rid of the kernel and setcpu. I didnt have a nandroid backup so i just reflashed fresh over. Now i only have fresh 1.1 and the 2.1 icons and my battery is suffering tremendously still. I have the mugen 1800 battery and i lose 20% of batter life in 2 hours with only minor texting. I figured maybe i just needed to reflash fresh to fix this but the problem still exists. after reflahsing 4 times. What should i do? should i wipe the phone and reflash or what. Also what is the process to do this if it is the recommended solution?

well first I would go in and check your awake time vs up time menu>settinmgs>about phone>status. if your awake time is the same or close to the same as the up time then you have something keeping the phone awake, either an application or something else. if your awake time is high go into spare parts and choose battery history and then choose the "partial wake useage" and since last boot option and see what program is keeping the phone awake.
if your awake time is normal then I would try booting to recovery and wiping data and delvik and then reflash fresh1.1
another leasson learned about making a backup before you change anyhting.

do i sitll need to do the OTA update to fix the sms issues or is that included in fresh?

Also remember that setCPU (fixed in the later versions) was initially resetting it to "performance" mode each time you restart. The newer versions fix this, but it's still worth a shot.
Are you running lots of widgets? Sometimes those can suck battery. for instance, the weather channel widgets are terrible at keeping your phone awake at all times. Weatherbug is better.

[Q] Battery Drain while Droid is powered off.

I am having trouble with the OG Droid draining battery while it is off. I power if off, just like usual, with 100 percent battery life. Turn it on in the morning and it is at 50 percent. I remember this happened a LONG time ago, on Froyo when VZW dropped the first Froyo release. I can't remember what I did to fix it.
Currently Running:
Liquid GB 2.3 (soon to be 2.4)
Wiped batterystats, still to no avail. Is there a particular way or method I should use to re-calibrate the battery?
Recently cleared the Davlik-Cache, which seems to have resolved a slew of other issues, but it is when this battery crap started.
Titanium backing up everything here now, nandroid backup, then wipe and reload to the latest version to see if that fixes any issues. I didn't know if anyone had any insight into what maybe causing this? I think I read it is when a process gets stuck and never fully shutsdown.

Battery life poor all the sudden?

Any tips for tracking down the culprit? The battery and data manager in the settings just says "Android OS 61%". "Android System" is only 2% and that seems to include all the things I'd guess would use power. My battery life has been ok, not amazing, but I'd get through most days with minimal charging. Now it seems that if I get 4 or 6 hours from a charge I'm lucky.
Is there any way to get finer grained analysis on what exact process, daemon or service is using up my electrons?!
I can't recall what I've installed recently, but something must have changed.
Also I see "Phone Idle" and "Cell Standby", both used 4%. What's the difference, or is this the same thing listed twice?
My wife is having the same problem. Have you been able to track anything down? The OS shouldn't been draining the phone while its sitting in your pocket. We had the battery replaced once thinking that was the problem and after about a week its happening again.
This happened to me too guys. Battery was dying quick and the phone was running hot. Got watchdog lite free from the market and it ended up being a Android media process... Had to take battery out, take out SD card and Sim card...put em back in, reboot, and all was well...I think my Google music was trying to make songs available offline so I cleared google music data and everything has been fine since.

+1 on this - it worked wonders for me. ICS has also had some great battery life as well.
Happening to my wife too. So random?
Mine has been worse the last week and a half... Running eclipse 2.2, but I had to install ADW Launcher EX to keep the phone from crashing upon "unlocking" it... So I figured the launcher drained more battery, but it seems to be more than I expected.
(disclaimer: I've re installed after full phone wipes a couple times and have not been able to rid the eclipse launcher crash upon unlocking...)

10 hours of battery life, and you are happy? Is this really how Bionic folks are? I am being serious, as I have no clue.
I have a friend that is getting 5hrs on a battery at most, his Bionic is 6mo old. He is 100% stock. He is on 2.3.4, and I am investigating what I should flash his phone to....

[Q] Stock ROM battery drain after playing with Maclaw ROMS

After playing around with some Maclaw ROMS (cm10.2 and cm11) I went back to stock ROM. However I had big battery drains after that.
I did a complete wipe of user and cache and dalvik. I installed stock firmware with Odin. Did it over again with KIES. But still a big battery drain. Like 15% an hour. No apps installed other than the bloatware the in the firmware.
I've read somewhere about someone else who had the same issue, but I cannot find it anymore.
Anyone an idea?
Maybe you should try to format all partitions in recovery (except your internal and external SD card of course) and reflash the stock firmware.
By the way, 15% an hour is quite normaal for me.

Custom Roms battery drain, can be the 1ghz bug .
when you did alot off playing ( such as flashing from rom to rom an formatting again in a few hours. it cost you battery .
And now back on stock rom. Try to load your battery again to 100 % and see what will happen after it .
Stock rom = 100 % - 0% battery --> +- 20 hours
Custom roms= can do it longer.
but if you are a heavy caller, gamer. the battery will be down faster .

I've had the same problem. I updated the working 10.1 october version to the december version. After switching back to october version the failure was still there. Only way to solve it was a new battery - but it costs only about 10 € ...
i think that it is true that rom by itself is still buggy with cpu governer bug that causes to be stuck on 1ghz without dropping to 200mhz on the other side...when i try another version i shall make my jugdement more clearly
i got this problem on 02.13 release when i update to 02.16 problem was solved. didnt update 02.18 yet

Perhaps you should also consider the lifetime and usage of your battery. After months of charging and discharging once or twice a day, it´s not so unnormal that a battery goes weak...which has imho directly nothing to do with the used software...

Thanks for the reply.
I charged again to 100 % en let it go to 0%. It took about 9 hours, AIRPLANE MODE!!!
Checked CPU with CPU spy: it goes to deep sleep.
No apps installed except the bloatware the Samsung firmware comes with (and CPU spy).
Maybe it's just my battery gone bad/dead at the same time I tested the Maclaw roms. I already ordered a new one (2450 mAh!), but it takes about a month to get here (if it arrives all together; I live on a tiny little island).
However... I also noticed I do not have network coverage some times. Just no network. Could it be that if you flash it with Odin/Kies not everything is wiped and reinstalled? Like modem drivers (although it's strange the drain also occurs in airplane mode). To make it more complicated: I just moved to another place, so maybe the coverage is worse around here.
I just hate it if I can't pinpoint the problem

Hi,
I think you are on 1ghz bug if you have custom rom.
When you are on stock. This is not normale, your battery is going bad

I bought a 2450 mAh battery here (only $5, but have to see if it really arrives first):

Hi!, I'm having the same issue here:
-Super-battery drain, specially when restarting the phone, huge 20% drops.
-Phone looses signal inexplicably,5 bars and suddenly dead, restarting solves the problem, but when signal drops, the battery starts getting HOT, even on IDLE.
-Im using Carbon 4.4.2 KitKat ROM on S3Mini I8190L.
Battery was working quite well with Cyano 11 about 3 months ago, switched to MIUI ROM because a friend recommended it, ROM started to be unstable, laggy and battery life wasn't great, had the same "signal lost" issues. Then downloaded the Carbon ROM and everything went worse.
-I always do full wipe, (davlik, data, interal storage, everything).
Any ideas?

Stock Marshmallow Battery Life: What gives?

So got my father a S6 and its running stock Marshmallow, Long story short his battery life dies extremely fast. He has wifi turned off and bluetooth on most of the time. He has the phone on his pocket or on a desk not being used and the phone goes from full to 20% in a few hours. Should I flash a rom to help the battery performance or do you think its a faulty battery?
I Would provide screenshots but I dont have the phone on my at the moment.

try wiping cache or factory reset in stock recovery. my phone had minor bugs after I installed 6.0 using Odin. factory reset fixed them.

ill try doing that thanks!
My battery life has actually improved since the update.
Make sure NFC is turned off as well (unless you use it often)
My battery life on MM isn't all that bad.. It gave me my first report on the apps that use the most juice, and gave me the option not to have it run in the background.. Not a bad feature.. Mine is rooted with a ton of Apps Frozen or Removed via Titanium Backup.. Battery life isn't better, but over time the device will get to know your habits and battery life should get better over time..
I'm stock MM and rooted running DS Battery Saver with the slumber profile. I'm just settling into it (a day or so) as well but out of the gate it's not too bad (12+ hours per charge). I've got most of the Tmobile and Samsung apps frozen but run a good dose of others.
I'm inclined to think this will improve over the next couple/few days and even more so with a custom kernel.
Update:
So I flashed the phone with samsung smart switch and battery is much better
Not as good as other phones ive used but its much better than what it used to be.

Root it an install deep sleep battery saver if that is an option.
If not, you can install an app like Greenify or Macrodroid and use them to disable sync or data/wifi when the screen is off.
That will help conserve battery quite a bit.
yes thats my next step. Its my fathers phone not mines. Just got my G5 today

Nougat Causes Random Reboots

Ever since I flashed the OTA my N6 has been having random reboots and battery life issues. The reboots happened three times today and all three times happened when the phone was just sitting next to me.
I originally had the WiFi problem where it wouldn't connect to anything until I reset the network settings. A factory reset didn't work for the WiFi issue. I am not rooted and just running stock with encryption.
Android OS is using a lot of the battery as well. You can see the three times today where it rebooted from the attached screenshot.
Any idea what is going on and how to stop it? So far Nougat has been horrible for me when I didn't have problems like this with the marshmallow upgrade.
as a rule of thumb avoid otas, always go for flashing the factory image via fastboot when available , in my experience otas=trouble

I've had the same battery issue. I think it has to do with the data partition. I did not a full wipe when upgrading to Nougat.
Settings - Battery - 3dots -> Battery optimization, and manually optimize all apps for battery use.
When you upgraded without a full wipe -> consider a clean reinstall with a full wipe.

All of the apps are setup for Doze. I did a factory reset after installing the OTA, which didn't seem to help. Also, I hooked up the charger last night at 1 am. It's now 6:50am and it only charged from 10% to 82% in that time. I never had issues like this before.
I did a clean install, I had to because it was from a custom rom, but it's been working perfectly for almost a week. If it had some problems they would have shown by now. No wifi trouble, no battery draining.

I noticed that your screen consumed 38% of the battery. That's very much in 15 hours.
Is it possible that there is something magnetic in the neighborhood that is constantly switching the screen on and off. This may happen with cases with magnetic closer.

It was that high because I was trying to figure out what was going on. I ended up this morning doing a complete wipe and reflash of the factory images instead of the OTA. So far it seems to be stable, except the WiFi constantly is dropping strength and jumping back. Not sure what's causing that one.
what most people dont ever consider.. it can be your personal setup thats causing reboots on nougat.

I use minimal apps, on a fully stock setup. I haven't tweaked anything, so how would that cause the reboots?
After reflashing the full factory images yesterday morning I did not have any random reboots. However, when I plugged in to charge last night, using the original cable and charger, it took over 3 hours to go from 55% to full. This was happening before the full flash, but only after Nougat. The other night it went from 10% to 68% in 6 hours. Quick charge doesn't seem to work in Nougat anymore.
Still getting this? Put stock nougat image on mine and experiencing random reboots. Going to try pure tomorrow, hopefully that resolves it.
Mine quick charges fine on a clean factory image install of Nougat. Battery life doesn't seem great but I'm still letting it settle and not sure how old this device is I picked it up off Craigslist the other day
