well yeah, apples ipad. ok? - Off-topic

I have seen a lot of posts on other threads saying bad things about the ipad.
I dont really like it either, but the videos of it on youtube look good!
I dont own any apple stuff and dont plan to buy any because its over priced.
But check the spec:
About 0.5 inch thick,
9 inch screen.
Book viewer
Movies!
multi touch.
Pretty good init?
I still can not see many being sold. it might sell more if it had mac os on it.
Then it could be used like a tablet pc. Which would make sense them bringing out a portable version of there desktop.
Seriously, check the vids

I have an idea for this Forum...! What do you think?

Hi guys,
Like many of you, I come here to get the latest and greatest firmware updates for my Wizard (8125 for me).
>>> Summiter is king! <<<
One thing I noticed about our Wizard firmware threads, though, is that they are such a mess, and the threads are almost unbearable to sort through.
It's a wonderful community, and friendly posts are fun, but please.. let us try not to 'pollute' serious threads that pertain to new Firmware releases.
When someone like Summiter posts a new firmware, it's wonderful to read the threads to see if other users are experiencing problems, errors, or bizarre behaviour.
By reading other people's experiences, I knew (for example) not to install the previous firmware.
However, did I really have to read through TWELVE pages of things like:
"I've installed it 5 minutes ago!!! So far, so good!!"
or
"I have been using it for 8 minutes. I like it!!"
or
"I think it's stable! But I am not sure... it's still installing!!"
and maybe we should make a thread devoted to "Who thinks Summiter is God!?"
I will post there, for sure! Set it up!
But let's all please try to pitch in and keep his new firmware threads as clean as we can.
If you are excited because your Wizard booted up in 45 seconds and not 3 minutes the first time... that is WONDERFUL! Share it with your wife!!
...but please at least test/try the thing before posting.
The cleaner these threads are, the more useful they will be.
And not only that, 20% of the threads are from users complaining about other users who don't read the posts! I love the, "Hey N00B! You have to read all 16 pages! The answer is in this thread!" posts....
....I hope you guys agree with me. I'm not a mod; not an admin; not even a frequent poster... but like you, I am a PocketPC enthusiast and power user. Like all of you, I am also pressed for time.
I am all for "chit chat", and like to meet new people, but when a new ROM gets released, PLEASE let's try to be a little mature, and at least let us use our devices for... a day(?!) before we post up the:
"I'm downloading it now!!"
type of posts...?
I know it's exciting. I love new ROMs as much as you. But if we all exhibit a little bit of self-restraint, I think we would all benefit from leaner and meaner threads, full of USEFUL info.
I'd love to hear your thoughts. I sure don't mean to insult anyone!
Thanks,
Mike
Michael - Your idea is spot on however I have never seen an open forum anywhere that is as disciplined as we would both like it. All the same it is worth raising the point so that maybe a few contibuters will think twice before making the post. My pet hate is when the thread changes mid way and there is no way of knowing about the change unless you have the time to plough through 18 pages.
Hey there,
Thanks for the words of encouragement!
I agree with you... most open forums end up going off on tangents, and so forth.
I'm only a member of about a dozen forums, and I really think that of all the threads in all the forums, the most 'crowded' threads are Summiter's ROMS.
....and the worst part of that, is that of alllll the threads I read on all my forums, I think his is the most important of all to me!
The best Forum for 'lack of noise' is VBA Express. Wow, it's increadle. Questions - Answers - Clarifications - Thank yous... then you mark the thread as solved.
Unbelieveable. New topic midway? You open a new thread. Sweet.
All the off-topic fun stuff goes into the Misc/Bar & Grill/Lounge type of threads.
Well, at least a few people have viewed this thread.
I am just trying to do my part to give us all - N00bs and pros alike -- a more efficient and enjoyable experience here.
I LOVE to hear about other user's experiences (good and bad!) with new ROMS and so forth... but like you and everyone else, it's tough to sort through 18 pages of some silliness and topic-changes to get to the "meat"!
Well, hopefully a few others will agree with us, and we'll have some nice, clean, and enjoyable threads...
Now I am off to read about the latest ROM... I hope it's as stable as 2.17!
Adios!
Mike
Great! Amazing!
I just started reading your 1st post 20 seconds ago, and I think it's great! I'll let you know what I think when I'm done reading it! Then I'll let you know what I think when I look at the replies! Oh, and do you know where I can get a stylus that writes in invisible ink!?
I think this is a good concept in principle, however you're missing out on one important aspect. When a new ROM is released, I'll admit I'm not usually an early adopter. I look for problem reports from others to know if I should jump in. But its also important to know that a few folks are trying it. No news is good news usually, so if a bunch of folks end up saying "yeah I tried it" then no negative follow-ups, maybe the ROM is OK. If there's only a few problem reports, how do I know those weren't the only ones who tried the ROM...see what I mean? Oh yeah, and there may be 18 pages of crap, but at least the crap is short and sweet...

Iphone Beer and iwash apps for Diamond?

Hey all,
This is my first post on here so be gentle please!
I just got a touch Diamond and i love it, My boss got the new iphone and he has all those apps where u press a button and it fills with beer or a chick comes out and washes the inside of the screen. What i am wondering is, Is there any like those for the Diamond? Or could any of you very kind developers hack one or make one that would work?
I mainly want the one where the chick comes out an cleans my screen coz im a perv!!
Thanks in advance!
I have seen pretty much everything else from the iphone come over to our phones so I'm sure it is out there somewhere (cannot say that I have seen it yet though)
i know its early days at the mo, so i dont mind waiting for this stuff but if anyone has or does see anything like these two apps for the Diamond then id really be interested !

Thats no app. Thats a video in fullscreen. Even the Today-Screen is faked.
You start the video, then 7 seconds it shows the Today-Screen, then it fills in the Beer. Same with the naked girl...
sorry guy
.... and pls move this thread!
There is a post in the this topic about a lightsaber app that uses the acceleromitor (SP?), and i noticed none of you guys had gone in there to flame the guy who made that post!
Surely these are the same kind of things, The beer app isnt a video. As i said in my fist post my boss has the iphone an that app an it's no video, it moves as you move you're phone around.
If you have a problem with where a post is put then all you had to do was alert a mod or ask for it to be moved not go an Epeen mission. I signed up to these forums because ive been reading through them for about 2 years lookin for advice or cool apps for my older PDA's that ive had an this didnt seem like the kind of place where people were arse's for no reason!

no, the post is in the "diamond" section not "diamond rom development"
the guy posted where this kind of things should be posted and he posted an application not questions about some hypothetical, nonexistent applications.
the space in this forum and in the first page specialy is "expensive".
ppl are watching posts regarding ROMs and important stuff related to diamond. each time a noob start a thread like yrs he pushes the really important stuff to the next pages.
what's so difficult to understand and to accept? why argue?!
nobody asked from you explanations or apologies. all we are asking you is to stop. come and check the forum from time to time and if there will be such an application you'll see it posted exactly like the saber....got it?
one thing more...stop asking here stuff that you see on iPhone...this is a diamond forum and we don't really love the "i" word.
now, are we OK? should i explain it to you again? with simpler words? should i bring here a few more members to ask you nicely to "let it go"????
Thank you for helping us keep this forum clean and please don't slam the door!
P.S.
congrats to your boss for his fine taste and choice of PDA!

Well, that's cool. The first time...
So you got flamed, so what?! the point of that is you have to learn from it. and if you have read these forums for two years you should know by now to post in the correct thread and the correct forum for your questions or needed advice. Everyone here is willing to point you in the right direction but some people react different to wrong posts etc.. but hey, eveybody is different and also you can have a bad day or be cranky,so dont be sad about it, just go to the right forum and thread and someone will help u if they can. keep the peace. greetings
I want the one where a girl actually apears out of nothing Cleans the drewl from my chin, then from my phone and then magicly makes a thread move to different forums.
That would be kewl.
I've taken a look at some of the apps.
They got one mayor Plus.
They look good.
But most of them aren' t that functional. (from what i've seen)
But that might also change.
Chapeau Steve Jobs, for bringing out this SDk that will allow for all these great apps that most consumers seem to want.
Is there a Remote Desktop app for the Iphone BTW?
I like general ChitChat.
As long as it stays just that Chit Chat.

People requesting ROM advice

As a member for some time, I have seen many people post looking for advice on which ROM might best suit their needs.
Typically the response is anything from a small flame to a raging inferno. The most common response from the learned people here is for the OP to "try them all."
Well, I am finally fed up with those lame and rude responses. You see, there is absolutely nothing wrong with soliciting advice from those who have tried things and ergo have more knowledge and experience. That is why "user reviews" are so important. Think about it, have you ever asked a salesman about a product or do you just try them all? Do you eat everything on a menu, or do you ask the waiter what's good... what would best meet your needs? If you are a normal person, you ask if you have questions!
Also, there is much made about creating different threads asking for the proper advice. Well, the very nature of the request requires a new thread. Each OP might have a different set of preferences that are unique. To use the waiter example: "I don't like salty and greasy foods. I do however like light foods. What would you recommend?" You see how asking for advice has a certain individual and unique set of components?
Some people have told the OP to search and read up on all the ROMs. Well, unless your Einstein or have made ROMS your passion, no sane human can even begin to digest all the information. Some ROMS have hundreds of pages in their thread. One ROM might be a novel to itself. Some people simply don't have 40 hours to read up. Worse yet, those who do have the time, won't have a clue as to which ones to invest it in. Seriously, there are a LOT of ROMs.... with new ones being released almost daily. Unless you live here, you cannot learn about them all.
I think a fair solution would be for the fine people here to focus a bit more on creating a sticky thread of User reviews. However, it has be quite organized and kept current. There is nothing worse than sifting through a couple dozen pages in one ROM thread just to find out the bugs never were addressed in that release, rather the author issued a new separate release.
In conclusion, I think that until ROMs have a better system for Peer Review, which can be easily understood by visitors, people should lay off those seeking advice. Actually, people should be more than willing to be of help and not be so quick to blow the OP off. As for the ROM reviews, I suggest a new sub-forum for just that. It would go a long way to servicing all parties; those who seek advice, those who don't want to see it in these sub-forums, and those who want to help by giving reviews.
Well that is that.
Nice words and I partly applaud, however, you also have to see the other side. Let me reply by copying a user complain and the mod's reply out of his guest comment:

Ashley,
Thank you for your opinion. The Guidelines for the Kaiser Section were not invented by me solely and for no reason.
The reasons most Kaiser Mods discourage this type of thread, is these threads not only can create hard feelings between chefs but has been known to lead to all out flame wars
If you want to know peoples personal opinions on ROM, you are more than welcome to ask these questions in the ROM thread.
Also, the Kaiser forum is very active and placing peoples opinions of ROMs in the ROM Thread, where the chef can see and respond to such opinions, is more helpful to the community at large.
This guideline was not created to stop person opinions and speech. But to lead to a better organized Forum Section.
Thanks,
Jimmy McGee

As you see, it is not always easy to justify a thread, especially not if you're talking about a forum with the size of XDA Developers. If people think they want a review of the particular ROM, why not asking directly in the THREAD of that ROM?
"If people think they want a review of the particular ROM, why not asking directly in the THREAD of that ROM"
That only works if you want a review from a SINGLE ROM.

As you now can see for yourself, this is where flaming begins - exactly the reason why threads like that are mostly not welcome!
I definitely think there's room for a single, stickied "ROM discussion" thread. People always have opinions, and it'd give people a place to vent them. The reason there's so many clutter-y "WHAT ROM?!" threads is because there's nowhere to ask that question, and new users have no real reason to understand how repetitive that question IS because all the threads get closed and deleted.
Simply telling them "you can't ask that!" makes it awfully tricky for new users, since they often don't even know WHAT they're looking for. By keeping a "ROM discussion" thread around, they might be able to at least get an idea of what people like about different ROMs. Heck, even if the place turns in to a pit of snarky vipers, it'll at least serve as an example of why people don't like ROM comparison threads!
The problems with just directing people to the ROM threads are thus:
1. Most ROM threads consist largely of bug reports or feature requests from long outdated versions of the ROM, so the information isn't really relevant.
2. Some (not all!) chefs are better at creating their ROMs than they are at describing them -- making it awfully hard to get an idea of what the author was "going for."
3. This makes it even LESS likely that some of the small, less popular ROMs will get noticed because the most popular, most updated threads are the ones that get bumped onto the first few pages.
4. ROM threads generally do not (and should not) contain information comparing different ROMs. This is, however, useful information -- if there's two ROMs claiming to be the "fastest and lightest," for example, users should be able to make their observations about those claims.
There's ALWAYS going to be a chance of getting people's hackles up and of some folks getting defensive of upset. At the same time, there's MORE chance for some chefs to get appreciation for what they've done, there will be a better starting point for folks new to this whole ROM business, and I think there's even a chance that the ROMs themselves will be improved because chefs might be able to keep their eyes on the rest of the "scene" better.
My 5 cents as a veteran noob.
First of all: This site is free to use. Lets keep it that way, by accepting the rules.
I think we have to realize, that this is not a service organization. This site is created by developers for developers.
Yes, it would be nice, if we could get answers quickly, but that is not the purpose of this site. Help - About: XDA
If you want to make this site a better place, Go Here!
A review-thread might be a great idea, but nothing is keeping you from creating another site for this!
So, you want a brand new ROM doing this, and this and that!
Well, so did I. And by trying different ROMs, I now realize, there are no shortcuts.
No matter how cool a ROM looks, there is always one thing about it you don't like.
One example: The new Manilla 3D looks incredible cool. Even if it is slow, I might still be using it, if it wasn't for one little thing that I just can't live with; The 3D "People" tab is very cool, but it is a pain to scroll through one contact at a time. I find the 2D version so much better.
You just have to try for yourself, what works for you and what don't.
Bottom line: To get the ROM that makes you most happy, you've got to make flashing your phone a hobby.
Read the stickies. Start flashing. Stay cool.
Happy hunting
I know this thread is closed, But I wanted to add to the statement of mine that was quoted earlier in this thread.
If you are going to get an objective Comparison or "Reviewed ROMs Thread" That would mean the reviewer would need to be unbiased. In order to do so they would have to flash EVERY version of EVERY ROM that was released. A difficult proposition at best.
I, like most people, will try a few and then Stick with one I find I like. There might be a better one that I haven't tried yet. But that's the fun of this Forum.
There was at one point a ROM Reviews thread. That thread was never closed. As it gave unbiased comparisons between ROMs. Something Impossible to get from just creating a thread saying "What's the Best?" Well ultimatly, "BEST" depends on your tastes.
The ROM review thread gave The features and bugs of a ROM and gave you a pretty clear pictures of the difference between the ROMs, All with the same "spin" from the same guy. By having the same "spin" from the same guy, you can grasp better which ROM is right for you. The effect of Me telling you what I like best and Junner Telling you their favorite is it has different "spin." Also, I may not have tried the ROM Junner recommended.
In the END the ROM Reviews thread died, because it was alot of work. And I believe we have even more ROMs available now!
So you can see why Best of ROM threads serve no purpose then to take up space. With the vast size of XDA's membership, you're not going to get a lot of worth out of a few vocal Fans of a certain chef's offerings.

[Q] Want Windows 7 on Touch HD ------^

Hi all,
Can anyone please help me out with windows 7 rom for my touch hd, i really want to get it, cause it looks cool. please it would be nice if you could give me the link.
Great idea! Except for the part where it is a looooot of work (if it even can be done), and the part where it will lagg like **** on our HD's because we've got about 35% of the speed needed to run WP7 smoothly.
summary: if you want WP7 you should buy a new phone

Question Dedicated S21 Ultra Forum?

I noticed that the 6.2 inch S21 has it's own dedicated forum with the typical group of threads that XDA always offers - Questions, News, Development/Roms, Accessories. However, I have not been able to find a dedicated forum for the S21 Ultra? There is only this thread - which only allows us to combine our comments/requests/news or whatever into a single thread - which obviously does not offer any kind of organization of similar threads like XDA usually does.
Am I missing something ? Is there a forum like the S21 Forum for the S21 Ultra? If so - Link please? If there isn't one, why not? Why would the basic S21 get it's own group of 4 threads while the S21 Ultra only gets one? in case I am not making myself clear, here is a link to the S21 Thread - S21 Dedicated Threads let me know if you know of something similar for the S21 Ultra.

Agreed.
Be careful what you wish for. When the S20 first came out, the S20U had its own dedicated forum with sub-groups for reviews, etc. Then they decided to merge EVERYTHING, and a lot of the S21U specific posts from the previous month or two were just wiped away. Personally, I would think there should be one S21 main forum, with sub-groups that are either distinct or separate, as appropriate (e.g. apps could be combined for all S21, but real life reviews should be separate for each). I don't know why they can't get this right.
I, too, would like this.

Greeting guys. While I know that the new forum layout isn't what we're all used to, this is XDA going forward since the migration to the new platform. This new "Prefix" based system should help with speed, indexing and searching once a few of the kinks are worked out. I know we are all creatures of habit, but as the saying goes, "The only constant in life is change."
I hope you will all be patient and understanding going forward, and will grow to like the new platform as time marches on, and we appreciate members such as yourselves being the backbone of what makes XDA a great place to learn, share, and do what we love doing to our devices. Even if that means creating a very expensive paperweight from time to time.
Best regards to all: Badger50

I hope you will all be patient and understanding going forward, and will grow to like the new platform as time marches on, and we appreciate members such as yourselves being the backbone of what makes XDA a great place to learn, share, and do what we love doing to our devices. Even if that means creating a very expensive paperweight from time to time.

Thank you for your response.
It's good to see XDA progressing in that matter.
As a small feedback, please consider putting the filters as buttons on top of the list (of the threads), in order to select or de-select one or more categories. Should be much more user-friendly

Thanks for the suggestion t-shock. If you're interested, you can follow, and make recommendations here if you are so inclined to do so.

Greeting guys. While I know that the new forum layout isn't what we're all used to, this is XDA going forward since the migration to the new platform. Thanks for the follow up and detailed explanation. It all makes sense - and I hope XDA will remain open to listening to it's members for the occasional adjustment - if it is deemed appropriate.
One quick thought - assuming a group of phones like S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra, would we have a main thread that combines all the phones together - much like the S20 Note has done - then threads like this thread for the Ultra might be inside that "mother thread" ? Just a thought. In the meantime, I love XDA and will be around for a long time - "if the lord is wiling and the creek don't rise"..... Thanks again....

I just couldn't resist. Thanks for the tip my friend.

i like it this way, much easier to view new posts
instead of clicking multi sub group to find new posts.
Ive been trying to get used to the format but i dont like having all the topics in one thread.
I prefer to have the sub forums of old so i can read what i want to read in that specific forum and not have to sift through a bunch of stuff i dont care about .
Ive been spending much less time here because of this, its thats frustrating. Hopefully enough people will raise this same thing and things will change!
So many posts that are intermingled together that initially rely on the correct prefix to be relevant are causing me issues, I'll try to get used to it, but I don't see benefits .
I also thought that buying bitcoin at 3 dollars was stupid, just saying...
I mean how would prefix this, which I think is true BTW.?
Samsung money card won't run initial activation on Samsung pay unless you have chrome installed .
Samsung browser will not work, I've tried it and thought it was a bad firmware install but it isn't.
Does any body else have this issue?

That's a question... You're just prefacing it with some info.

I agree with that. And I want to add to it:
Once you filter a category (say with the proposed button which is a very good solution) and you want to MARK it READ, this action should solely mark read this category only, not the entire forum!
edit: I'll post it here too.
