Fresh ROM Question - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I flashed it back onto my phone and now it just sits at the HTC screen? is that normal???

since you rarely see the bootscreen id say just go with the default sprint/ hero one.

there should be a few bootscreens in the modaco hero forums http://android.modaco.com/category/409/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/

Restore flashed ROM to stock (WM6.5 to 6.1)

I flashed my HTC Touch diamond 2(Topaz) from the stock WM 6.1 w/touch flow 3D. I now have to send my phone back because the screen is fading on one side. Is there a way to put back the stock ROM and remove the Hard-SPL?

Hi Heffer,
I've just this very minute done this. Here's how I did it...
1. Restored the original radio from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=528040
I'm not sure if this is necessary, as I think the rom used in step 2 includes the older radio, but I did this anyway. Only necessary if you've updated the radio.
2. Restored the stock firmware from here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Topaz_ROMs_Shipped
I flashed this from the SD card. The phone reboots at least once during the flash, don't panic.
3. Ran TopazSPLRelocker_SPL133.zip from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520312
And that was it.
Now I'm back to the stock SPL, radio and OS, and the phone's ready to ship back to the retailer.
Phatmikey.
P.S. I find it works best if you remember to 'Run as Administrator' these programs in Windows.
Hi
You have probably checked this, but just in case, on a lot of Windows Mobile themes there is a graduation on white backgrounds that shades the screen. I've thought the screen was darker or discoloured on one side before now only to realise it was shading.

Phil

Rom booting help?

I'm using a Dream and 8gb card (no idea if its class c) I've downloaded 4 different Hero roms and every single one of them has gotten stuck at the htc logo on the first reboot and it just goes in a loop of the little hero man and the htc logo. The only one that didn't do it was the JacHero rom but it was terribly slow and every time I went home it reloaded. What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it?

[Bootscreen] Attempt to Remove the Orange bootscreen?

Hi, ive tryed using the stock bootscreen update.zip, and it installs but it still doesnt get rid of the orange logo..
ive had a look in the system/media/bootscreen folder and its not got the orange logo in it...but then i found in the system/media folder that there is bootscreen files :
boot_bg.gif
boot.gif
boot2.gif
Orange.gif
boot.mp3
boot_animation.xml
so im guessing my hero isnt using the system/media/bootscreen folder for the bootscreen..and orange has changed it to just system/media..
so anyways what im looking for is someone with the knowledge of signing update.gifs to create one for me using the system/media folder instead of the system/media/bootscreen folder
or even help on how to make it myself?
thanks
Andrew
Sounds like you'll need to flash the SPL as that's where that logo is stored IIRC.
See http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/296389/24-nov-unlocked-spl-for-gsm-hero/ for GSM HERO ONLY!!
Be careful, as this can brick your phone if not done correctly...
you're talking about the splashscreen, not the bootscreen. as stated the splashscreen can only be changed through the hacked spl.

ok so what your saying is that orange has disabled the bootscreen. and only the splashscreen is shown. so no matter what bootscreen updates i do they wont work untill the splashscreen is changed?
i just dont know why they would use the same files one folder above the correct location.
Not quite. They are 2 separate things.
I've got a T-Mobile G2 (Hero branded by T-Mobile). I get a T-Mobile splash screen, then an HTC bootscreen (with the little 'android guys' popping their heads up). I could remove the T-Mobile one by flashing the SPL, and I can change the HTC one using those bootscreen files you mentioned.
See http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/296389/24-nov-unlocked-spl-for-gsm-hero/ again for more info...

Well the orange branded one i have is different from your t-mobile one.. because as ive stated in the 1st post
i have tryed changing the bootscreen to something else just tryed ( Nexus One/ showthread.php?t=605188) and it doesnt change at all it just stays with the orange logo then hero then htc.
So on my Orange Hero they must have changed the bootscreen directory to just system/media/ and NOT system/media/bootscreen.
in my system/media/bootscreen/boot_animation.xml is
Code:
<BootConfiguration>
<BootAnimation
image="/system/media/bootscreen/boot1.gif"
image2="/system/media/bootscreen/boot2.gif"
loopimage="/system/media/bootscreen/boot2.gif"
image_bg="/system/media/bootscreen/boot_bg.gif"
audio="/system/media/bootscreen/boot.mp3"
screenX="0"
screenY="90"
useAudio="0"
/>
</BootConfiguration>
which is correct after installing the Nexus bootscreen update i also checked the images they are correct too.
but in the system/media/boot_animation.xml is
Code:
<BootConfiguration>
<BootAnimation
image="/system/media/Orange.gif"
image2="/system/media/boot_bg.gif"
image3="/system/media/boot.gif"
loopimage="/system/media/boot2.gif"
image_bg="/system/media/boot_bg.gif"
audio="/system/media/boot.mp3"
screenX="10"
screenY="180"
useAudio="1"
/>
</BootConfiguration>
as you can see this is the one thats still active because its still got the Orange.gif
... is there anyway that i could make the bootscreen update.zip use that folder instead.. so i can change that boot_animation.xml..
strange first orange hero to have a splashscreen, orange only implimented a bootscreen, this is the first I've heard of an orange splashscreen, when did you buy your phone?
I too have a UK Orange phone with the latest Orange ROM and I have never seen an Orange splashscreen - it is all HTC and android. Have you got the latest official Orange ROM from the HTC site?
i bought it ... last summer july or august i think.. its still got the original rom from its release 1.5 with build 1.76.61.3 146733 CL#46012 Release Keys.
it must be one of the 1st ones because i managed to unlock it with the code.. my friend has a hero from the same shop a month or two later and it wont unlock.
Try flashing the latest Orange Rom, which can be dowloaded from HTC's website here. It is version 2.73.61.5. HTC provide full instructions and it won't affect your warranty.
That is the ROM I have and, as I say, it has no Orange branding as far as i can see, other than a few bookmarks on the browser. But it is difficult to unlock - but that should not be a problem to you I guess as yours in now unlocked.
ok just an update.. i have managed to remove the orange bootscreen... Which WAS a bootscreen NOT a Splashscreen that someone with G2 said it was.. Orange must not be as smart with andriod unlike t-mobile.
and i never used the Hacked SPL
Heres how i did it.. using the system recovery (cyanogen mod v1.4+JF) i installed and update.zip version of the Stock HTC Generic 2.73.405.66 Rooted ROM from (android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/291942/22-jan-stock-roms-radios-in-update-zip-format-for-gsm-hero/)
after this finished ive got a HTC Hero from orange without the branding and also updated a bit...
hope this helps

Flash G1/Magic

Would it be possible to flash a G1/Magic ROM onto the Nexus One device without changing any stuff?
Just asking because i had a HTC Magic before the Nexus, and i could flash G1 roms on it - aswell as the G1 android development has more ROM's
Only problem i could think of would be key mappings.
Why would you want to go backward. Most people have been working to get the MTG & G1 updated to the 2.1
Basicly because that they have Desire ports to the G1 which has the dropping signals fixed
