TaskBar Icon Fix! - eXpo GW820, GW825 IQ Themes and Apps

Well i found a fix for our problems with network icons! Hope Everyone enjoys it!.
Code:
Taskbar icons for our phones can have interesting effects. A few work, but most ether 1/2 work or fail miserably.
Currently i have only found 1 set of icons that work 100%
[url=http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624874] Dusk Taskbar [/url].
Currently i am using this taskbar
[url=http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=626188] Dark Ninja's Android Taskbar[/url]
This one is working like 3/4% with only the only the signal bars not working(tho it doesn't look bad)
Has anyone determined why some work and others dont? I have very little experience with taskbar icons tho i plan to jump in soon...

Another taskbar now works 100% (minus bluetooth)
8/3/10 [Released] HTC Hero/Desire/Legend Taskbar For WM6.5/WM6.5.X W|VGA
idk how/why it works but i plan to find out .

Good job, it looks very clean. The only issue is that my BattClock doesnt match the multi-shade toolbar anymore

Change your theme then change it again and it will change the taskbar color.

I finally found a fix for our taskbar issues, cab in first post.

Sweet!
Great Job Jug6ernaut,
Mind if I add this one to Expo/IQ Tweaker?

fix for icons
finally a fix for the signal bars that would not change from stock white, one thing though, the signal strength will never show more than two bars, yet can open up the manager where you can turn bt, wifi etc on or off, and the signal strength is stronger than what the taskbar icon shows. example icon shows 1 or 2 bars where it should be showing 4 or 5 bars. do i need to change a registry value or what? any help much appreciated. thanks a lot.

3g sig
actually its just when the phone is showing 3g that the signal bars act wierd. it will show 2 bars when the signal should be 4 bars. when the strength actually is 5 bars it will show 4bars, never just 3bars. during a call the signal strength showing will be correct. any help?

Strange, mine seems about the same as the LG bars (IQ) but I’m almost always showing as being on “H” (HSPA+) and not “3G” (HSPA) so I’m not sure. With the taskbar I’m using, I did have to change one reg. setting for the battery as it was off by 1% (big deal) but that was it.
I'll play around with mine and see if I can replicate the problem.

signal
maybe im using the wrong fix, i have tried several taskbars, always no change to the stock white signal icon. then i used the fix above and the icons were all there, just the signal bars did not show the actual sig strength that say the comm manager showed. it was one and two bars like it should then the signal at 3 actual would still show only 2 and only 2 for an actual signal of 4 then when the signal hits 5 the bars will jump and show 4? while im on a call the signal strength is accurate. i do not know. it was hard to get the signal icon to change from stock and now the signal strength is not right. my phone is att pure wm6.5 stock rom etc.

Ahhhh…. This fix is specific to the LG Expo and IQ (I Think), that be part of your problem.

no it should work on all phones. All this fix does is take away a reg key that tells the system to use an alternate dll. His pure should be in same as our expo.
When i ahve time ill make up another cab 4 u to try.

I stand corrected
I have compared my signal strength bar to the one that shows on S2U2 and they both show the same signal strength (even on 3G).. so mine seems to confirm it's working correctly.

well this fix has nothing to do with the how many signal bars actually get shown, only which dll is being used to show them.
when i have time(i know same old story xD) ill go have a look at the stock dll and compare to the ones we are using. it is possible that the entries are different which would cause it to show the wrong ones. but i dont think so.

signal bars
fellows i cannot tell you how much i appreciate the effort, i figured the fix would be ok to use on my pure, just dont know why the correct bars will not show on taskbar icon. as i said when on a call the correct number of bars show on icon and comm manager, again thanks for any help. i will be glad to try whatever you can figure out.

I am looking for a quick and easy way to switch from 3G to Edge (Yes I have a Tilt on AT&T) from the today screen so that I can conserve battery life most of the time but get to 3G quickly.
I thought that phoneAlarm could do it by profile but it doesn't.
Freeware would be great since I am not looking for anything profile, time or location based but at the point I am open to whatever.

Thank you sir.. I have been on the board for too long trying to figure out some flashing things and got lazy.
I have working this issue from the phoneAlarm end as well since it seems to have decided to stop working on me for some reason

Have a great weekend!
I did some more testing and the plot thickens (or at least becomes more complicated) I read here that the Tilt changes bands differently than other WM6 phones (although I have not yet figured out how) so I think that may be part of the problem.
I flashed _Alex_ ' s ultra clean ROM and the only thing I installed was phoneAlarm. The phone was connected to MEdia Net in 3G. When I switched to a profile that did not have 3G (selected as GSM in the options) the connection disconnected and reconnected, but it remained 3G.
The same was true in reverse if I selected a GSM profile and reset it would start is EDGE. If I changed it to 3G profile it would disconnect, reconnect and stay EDGE.
I started checking the comm manager (I am using a 10 button comm manager) and the 3G selector would change with the profile although the band switch would not occur.
What is funny is that if I used the 3G selector on the comm manager the band switched with no problem, following the same behavior patter of disconnecting and reconnecting.
I don't know enough to really dig in any further but I will keep googling how the Tilt changes bands and hopefully one of the more technically adept folks will have something figured out or can give me an assist.

3G and edge use the exact transmitted power! (Always on connection is the main problem!) An Ipod uses Edge which is slow. But what the hey, you have a question and it will be answered here...

That is interesting, because I get significant improvements in battery life if I spend the day on EDGE vs 3G. In fact, my battery rarely lasts more than 3/4 of a day with light phone usage if I am on 3G! This experience would see to be pretty common and I have even seen something that says 3G uses up to 4 times as much power as EDGE. This was supposedly the reason why Apple made the iPhone EDGE not 3G.
I am not bashing you and there may some electrical engineering reason why they use the same transmitted power but real life this translates into something different.

That does it!!! I'm finished...
One of the 10 key Comm Managers works. I don't recall what thread I got it in but it works fine for me.
HTC changed the old way to change the band in tilt. Now It isnt enought to change a registry key and reset the radio device. Now are needed dark and undocumented api calls to htc libraries. Bandswitch and commmgrpro(bandswitch + profiles) do it correctly.

Thanks - I will pass this along to Bruce, who is the phonealarm creator, and is trying to fix this in his next release. Another reason I love the product!!!
Shameless plug for them but it really is an awesome product and the support is great! Worth every freakin' penny!

Uh, you wanna cite your source for that one?
I think HTC have been changing things again as my new Touch Dual, with latest bandswitch does not swap, it will allow the change and it even shows it in the system settings, but remains on 3G

If Apple could have made it 3G they would have. Steve Jobs was quoted in an interview that the reason the iPhone was not released with 3G originally was that the hardware to make it 3G was not out long enough to be tested thoroughly at the time the phone was being built and tested, not the time it was released. Once the decision was made to go Edge, Apple couldn't release a much better phone within a quarter or two so the incentive to get it out sooner went away. I have it on good authority (rumors in the media also confirm this) that the 3G iPhone will be released Q2/Q3 in 2008. Also, given the popularity of the iPhone and Cingular's small but growing 3G network at the time of release, Cingular was concerned that not everyone that bought an iPhone would have been in 3G areas and would have complained about performance. This is why Cingular has seemingly accelerated the roll-out of 3G-ready areas faster over the last few quarters. This comes from a few friends at Cingular.
If a new 3G iPhone will have battery life as long as the current Edge iPhone (removable battery would be the bomb to carry an extra one or extra capacity, it will be a very compelling unit, despite the inability to add 3rd party apps. And to bring this full circle to the thread, if a 3G iPhone allows 3G to be turned on/off, look out Windows mobile....oh, and removable storage capacity, too, and GPS..., and a good IM program...
Try these Comm Managers. They both work perfectly fine on my tilt.
None of these work on the Dual as it moans about permissions when installing.

Go to Settings>System> Memory>Running Programs and Stop the Comm Manager application. Then install the Comm Manager.
That should do the trick.

I am currently using the dutty black 3G and that works perfectly. What I have done is link comm manager to a button so I can access it quickly and switch as needed. Changing comm managers does not address the phoneAlarm issue since phoneAlarm changes reg keys (according to Bruce) and with the Tilt (and maybe the Kaiser) it takes "api calls" or something else I don't fully understand.
If there is anyone who knows how this works and would be willing to share with Bruce over at pocketMax so he can build this into a update release that would be awesome!

Display Signal Strength in db

Hi. New here. I'm wondering if there is an application that will make my Touch Pro display the actual signal strength at the top rather than the bars.
I've done a fair amount of searching and haven't seen anything much but maybe I'm not looking in the right place.
Thanks!

Actually, it's not quite that simple. The display of 'bars' is actually the result of a fairly complicated algorithm, that takes into account signal strength, quality, and transmission diagnostics. And it isn't the same for all providers either. Each cell provider installs their own application/algorithm to determine and display bars. There was an article about this on the Wired site a few months (or so) ago. And here's one that's similar...

Messed up signal strenth icons and such.

I dont know what I did to my captivate, but for some reason the signal strenth icon says "EV" next to it.. I know this is not right since I have a GSM phone with AT&T.. also the Wifi icon now looks like this " | " a pipe. and I also get a weird triangle and some other icons.
i think the GST Galaxy S Tweaker messed with it, but i do not know how to get it bacl.. anyone .. ideas?
thank you?!
Did you make a nandroid backup? If not, you need the original framework-res.apk for the rom you are on.

[Q] 2.42.02.10.29 radio -- bars constantly disappear

using the new radio, my bars constantly disappear and then-theyll reappear until they disappear again.. its super annoying to see(to me anyway). i flashed the prior version 2.42.01.04.27, and it does not happen.
i noticed it happening when i would initiate a data connection, for example with facebook. i open fb, says loading, the bars disappear..then reappear in about three seconds...
anyone notice this on the NEW sw version? im using nfinites stock odex rom the .7 sw version. maybe the new radio doesnt agree with the old sw version? i dont know, im just spit ballin here...
any insight is appreciated.
thank you

There are a lot of people reporting problems with the new radio, but there are
also a lot who have had no issues with it. I have access to two cdma hero
phones where I'm at, and flashed them both with identical roms, kernels, and
radio basebands. The only difference between the two phones is the installed
apps. That being said, the phone I use loses signal constantly, even on the old
baseband, where the other phone does not, even when sitting next to eachother
. The new radio definitely has issues, but some of these phones act different
than the rest, too.

Our phones really have 2 signal strengths. One for the network and one for data. When you're using data, I believe the bars switch to show the signal strength for data, which is usually worse for me too. I'm using CM6.1
If you're curious, this app Real Signal can show you both of these signal strengths in real time.

That is exactly right. 3g and 2g (data and network) signal shows up differently, hence the fluctuation when you send a text, make a call, etc.
i understand the evdo/1x.
i hate it.
when i receive a text or call it blasts to 1x real quick.
in the case of my original post, i start in 3g(evdo), bars get gray while displaying the 3g icon, then in a couple seconds they bocome colored and show some sort of signal...
couple older cdma phones i used to have i was able to increase the tx power, the power given to the antenna. is there any way to increase the poser given to the antenna?
thank you
p.s i hope i am being clear...maybe ill take some vid of it actually happening

Carrier, signal icon disappeared from Android 12

Hello. I updated the Android Beta and it seems I don't have that one mega-useful icon on the top screen that tells me if the signal is strong enough to make a call. Anyone had this very thing? Seems no one in the world noticed and it seems so weird to me.
If anyone knows how to make it appear again... well, very appreciated :')

Looks like a conscious design decision to only show your current internet connection whether it be wifi or carrier.
Dropping down the shade reveals your carrier connection strength if currently on wifi.
I can't get it to appear with the standard System UI tweaker either. In a way it makes sense, in another way it is annoying.
