[newbie] customize htc keyboard - Click Android Development

is it possible to customize the htc keyboard ?
I like it a lot but I keep pressing the "settings" button.
Maybe it would be better to activate it with a long-press.
Then it would be useful to activate word predictions in all form you want to, not just where it detects a text-form.
is it possible some way ?
thanks

it certnainly is possible and you don't even need root. i know because i downloaded a custom keyboard from the Market named SerbianIME (i needed ščž characters).

thanks for the reply, but since I don't know how to do it I was asking here
thanks

Auto Suggestions Pop-Up

I am sorry if this has been answered before, but I can't find the answer anywhere. How can I change the auto suggestions from the one that's in the screenshot to the older pop-up version?
Have you looked under start-->settings-->personal-->input? Once here select the input method you wish to use and customize it all the way. This should inlcude adding your own words to the dictionary/pop up suggestions etc.
I don't know the popup you mean but it sounds to me like it belongs to an older keyboard. You need to install that keyboard, if you can find a VGA version.
Failing that you could try another keyboard like Resco or TouchPal to see how you get on. I think the T9 system in TouchPal is great, a whole other level better than the HTC keyboards.
I was wondering how to get the word suggestions to the one in this screenshot.
Ths thread explains it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445959
short version: disable T9 and use a different keyboard...

You can't use that one with HTC's keyboards. That belongs to Microsofts' built-in SIP's. I find HTC's much better and quicker to use. If you've only just changed from the 'old' word suggestions from Microsoft, maybe you need a bit more time to get used to them. Other than that, you'll have to use Microsoft SIP's instead of HTC's.
I'm sure if there was a way to resolve your issue, some wiz-kid here would have already done it
I forgot to mention this, but I am not use HTC keyboards. I am using PocketCM Keyboard v0.20.
I figured it out thanks to Steve in this form post #21: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425405
Here is the suggestion which works!
found this in another thread
changes for auto complete
IMPORTANT: previously be sure that HKLM\Software\Tegic\eT9\XT9SupportMSSip has a value of 0.
Simply change these two registry keys under:
HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\control\layouts\e 0010409
Ime File : \windows\xt9ime.dll change to Ime File :\windows\compime.dll
and
Layout Text : XT9 IME change to Layout Text : COMP IME
And soft reset.
suggest words in a drop down list as in WM6

Keyboard and Navbar?

Hi all, i've been searching for months for an answer to my simple questions but unfortunately i cannot find the remedy anywhere!! Now what i have been wondering is, with the new 2.1 ROMS, where the exit keyboard button is, on the Desire there is a smiley face button instead, i believe this was installed on one ROM, however i preferred to use a stock based ROM as my daily phone, now what i am wondering is, does anyone know where i can get the keyboard with the smiley, possibly as an update ZIP? i am certain it exists somewhere, but i am unable to find it anywhere!
Now my second question is about the stock navbar, i have found a couple of update ZIP's to make it transparent, but what i am after is a complete change of it so it resembles the Froyo navbar or to be honest, anything but the standard one! any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!

Swiftkey has a smiley on the right side of the keyboard and is a very good keyboard as well. It tries to guess what your next word will be and offers a choice to you.
It is in the market so downloading and installing is a breeze.
does sound good however i have quite dubious about installing third party keyboards, i'm almost 99% that i have oreviously seen a HTC IME keyboard?? (sp) that was flashable to the hero, i just can't seem to find it anywhere!!
hmmm.... it seems like you want this keyboard?

Make sure you download the right one for your phone and follow the instruction on the page. I have pasted them here as well and added some addition notes.
Instructions:
* Download and unzip (not flashable update.zip!) This would be on your computer! After downloading extract or unzip the file. There will be 3 files in the folder after extracting counting the read me file.
* Install the two apks (HTC_IME & Clicker) using your favorite method (via a file manager or adb install -r). Sense users shouldn't (and needn't) install Clicker. (Put those two files on your SD card, and then using something like Astro file manager install them. You do this by opening your file manager, find the two files, click on them one at a time, and choose the option to install)
* There is no need to push anything to /system
* Go to Menu, Settings, Language & Keyboard. Activate "HTC_IME mod"
* To change keyboard, long press on lower left key on stock keyboard or any input field. Select input method in the menu.
* See note below if you have earlier versions than v22 installed already!
And as far as downloading 3rd party apps I wouldn't without reading some reviews as well. I have used the Swiftkey keyboard and like it very much. I have had zero issues with it and have tried it on several different roms.
Thanks a lot for your in depth reply, i got the keyboard working and i like it a lot! all i need now is another navbar, does anyone know of any replacements apart from the transparent standard ones?
thanks in advance!

You were probably using the HTC_IME MOD keyboard!
Anyway, I am unfamiliar with the term "Navbar". Do you mean the dock style area at the bottom of the screen? Many launchers seem to refer to this as the app drawer.
yes i think thats what it is, i've heard it called the Rosie too? its what separate launchers replace are there any replacements i can flash to the phone like the Expresso navbar? thanks

Changing the keyboard (workaround)

So, if you don't like the Swype keyboard for some reason, the settings menu on the Streak 7 does not give the "Input Method" option. I finally found a way to change the input method.
If you go to the AccuWeather app, which should be preinstalled, and go to enter a new location, you will be asked what input method to use. From there, you can choose the regular keyboard, Swtpe, and most likely, any installed keyboards. This setting should stick, even in other applications.
I know this isn't exactly the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I hope it helps someone out
Normally under android you can long press any text input box and it will give you the option of changing input method you can then select any available keyboards that way
If you download a new keyboard or something, you have to remember to turn it on in settings before you can use it

Damn...I thought I was onto something. I never noticed that before, except in AccuWeather

[Q] How to change keyboard HTC ONE ROOTED?

I installed the RenovateRom, which is really great. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2202696
But since they Removed the "select input method" notification. I dont know how to change the keyboard, i wanna use the original jellybean keyboard.
can anyone help me how to change the keyboard ?
thanks in advance.
What about if you just go into settings, language and input or something like that, then keyboard. Select keyboard and I would think you would be good.
On most keyboards, if you hold down on one of the buttons such as "spacebar" or "123" or one of ones on the bottom row, it will give you pop up a box to select your keyboard. On the stock JB keyboard, you hold the space bar to get the pop up.
hi,
i tried both. no way to change the keyboard on HTC ONE with your hints.
very strange.
someone any other idea ?
You can download something called "input select method" from the play store. I love the renovate roms but can never understand why they remove the input method selector.
Anyhow, hope that helps.

logo2search?

Not sure has anyone thought of this, but is it possible to (probably possible with another kernel change, but also wondering is it possible to do it without) implement logo2search (ie. pressing on HTC logo lets you search)? I am wondering since I personally use Poweramp and there's no search button on the app so I used to use my search key which no longer exists on HTC One.
