Blargh, market stuck at "starting download" - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm using Modaco's Desire ROM, but I doubt it's a ROM issue given that the problem only started recently (and never occurred in previous alpha builds) and that, from a quick google search, this seems to happen on a range of Android phones, stock ROMs and otherwise. I think the problem started when I added a second gmail account to the phone temporarily because I needed to check my other mailbox. Removed that account since, though.
I tried doing the fix_permissions method. No luck. Rebooted the phone, no luck. I suppose I'll have the phone anyway when Paul releases the next alpha and hopefully that will fix it, but before that point, does anyone have any idea how do I deal with this? Not being able to use the market is bugging me.

Have you tried manually signing into G-Talk?

Yep. Stuck at "Signing in..." perpetually, so no go there either, alas.

About half the time I dl from market the dl doesn't start. I restart the phone and its fixed. Sometimes I hold power and when menu comes up, the dl starts. But yeah I'm not rooted and it happens constantly on WiFi , 3g, e , g networks.

That didn't do the trick either, sadly. Guess I'll just wipe when alpha 13 comes out.

Downloading Apps from Market

Hi all
As the various versions taking over our phones, I notices some phenomena that also occurs with several over people I've talked to.
While trying to download Apps via market , the download doesn't start. The market does initiate the download procedure - The Download bar appears etc , but the actual download will not start even after hours of waiting.
However , by rebooting the phone or simply toggling the 3G / WIFI off and on (the same problem happens with both types of connection), the download starts immediately.
Now , at first I thought that maybe the connection is constantly failing , but all kind of automatic updates like news , weather etc are working all the time , and of course the Net surfing and market access are possible.
It seems that the restart required just for apps download.
I don't know if it's because of Apps2SD or something else , but it happens to several people I know about and with several different builds (CYanogen and JackHero are those I remember specifically )
I would be more than welcome for any kind of reply , eevn hearing that you personally have no problems with apps downloads.
Thanx
Sometimes that happens to me. I just cancel the download and restart it and it works again. A reboot helps too.
It happens to me now and then as well. I just cancel the download and try again a little later. Normally works without a reboot.
I have actually been experiencing this all day... I keep canceling the download and rebooting, but none of this has been helping. I also cleared the marked cache...
i've been experiencing this all day... i don't want to cancel my download because it's a paid app and if i cancel then restart i don't have a choice for a refund. =/
i tried toggling the wifi on and off but doesn't seem to work, gonna try rebooting, i've already been waiting for like 10 hours... lol.
I'm running the latest Cyanogen 3.9.? (the experimental one.)
Well , all this is kinda bad, but at least I know now it's not my hardware.
I tried to leave post in Developers section , but they threaten to ban me for nagging
So I guess we need more information in order to start fixing it.
2 questions for now -
1) What rom version you use (I'm mostly interested in finding someone with official rom that have the same problem, i'm using Cyanogen 3.6.8.1 myself)
2) Are you using T-Mobile or not (for example I'm using the phone in Israel , and they're not even imported to here yet)

i'm using 3.9.1 by Cyanogen on T-Mobile.
i heard toggling the wifi on and off has worked for a few people, also rebooting the phone while it's dowloading has worked for others but it hasn't worked for me all day... i've tried both and nothing. i even re-flashed my phone and still nothing. they won't even start downloading. i'm gonna try JACHeroski rom right now to see what happens. be back with the results in a bit.

I thought Google Checkout allows for refunds within 24hrs, no? I've had this issue but only when I have poor service.
i cant believe nobody has mentioned this yet.
cyanogen has FIXED this problem. the problem lies in the fact that whenever you download something, google collects anonymous usage data. a lot of the time, this process fails and causes the download to hang.
if you want to fix the problem, check this thread.

Activation issues (running cyanogen).

First of all, a hello, and thank you, to this forum. You guys have a ton of great content, and I'd be completely sunk without this site.
Anway, here's my issue.
1) My friend had a G1, it worked great, activated on his t-mobile data plan.
2) He gave it to me, but first, he did a factory reset on it. This was unfortunate, as it was on cupcake, with RC33, and I, and everybody I know, lack a data plan.
3) I downgraded to the old android, and RC29, so I could WiFi activate.
4) I activated it successfully via WiFi, but it quickly developed a tendancy to randomly shut down, all the time, unless it was on a charger.
5) Figuring this was somehow caused by the downgrade, I decided to root, and update to a later version.
6) I settled on Cyanogen, and installed it.
7) Now, I'm stuck back at the "touch the android to begin" screen, and in my original dilemma. The <enter>reboot</enter> command doesn't work, now, as it did on RC29. This confuses me. Why is cyanogen, an OS all about customizing, not allowing me to activate via wifi, or have that good old hidden terminal? How do I activate via wifi, on cyanogen?
If you are running Cyanogen, just touch the android and skip the activation procces...all custom roms have that option.
If you dont get that option, then you are not running Cyanogen. As simple as that.
Hey, thanks. Yeah, I just sort of gave up hope when I saw the "touch the android" thing, and couldn't use the old RC29 method.
Sure, enough, it was there, I got wifi on, and am now activated.

My happiness is short lived.
I thought cyanogen would fix it, but my phone just started with the random shutdowns again.
It was first triggered when I updated, and attempted to run google maps.
I'm not sure if this is a coincidence, or if reinstalling cyanogen, and avoiding google maps like a plague, might stop thi form happening.
Any insights?
help
how can I activate it later after using the skip method?
I can connect to a wifi spot in school. then what? If I open the market app, It would promt me to register an account, But I always get errors even If I'm already connected to wifi.

internet connection failing

My hero seems like it should be headed for the trash. Over the past few days I have been noticing problems getting my gmail to sync, browsing the internet and looking up things in the marketplace. I am running stock 1.5 that was rooted. That is it. I have tried going to setting and updating profile then rebooting but doesnt seem to have solved the problem. I also just tried flashing cyanogenmod 6.1.0 release and I was unable to sign into my google account at startup??
The phone does show an internet connection. Opera browser doesnt appear to be having any issues, but any other app does... any advise would be great!
I'm having the exact same problem. I have no idea what to do, I've tried everything for 4 hours now. My internet is so sketchy. Everything from google maps losing connection, to facebook, to a weather widget I have not even getting the weather. Its insane
i'll take the phone to a dumb sprint rep if needed, but what about if they see FLIPZ_PRI and stuff on the phone because it has been rooted? There has to be something here to fix the problem?
If you figure it out let us all know because i am having the same problem. I have done just about everything i can think of. From reflashing roms to 5 different kernals and even different roms nothing helps.
Good luck
well if a lot of people are having the same problem doesnt that seem to sound like a sprint issue??? i have no idea what updating prls and profiles due, but something isnt right.
Been having similar issues myself. From what I've been reading it's a Google server issue which is why you can still browse the web etc... but still like the market isn't working correctly.
Don't take my word for it though...
Internet problems
I've had the same issue on and off all day. I first noticed youtube not working, then facebook and then voice. YouTube wasn't working for a few hours, facebook a few minutes and voice just got working again; all my problems started sometime this morning 10ish.
I'm running Cyanogenmod 6.1.0, 2.42.01.04.27 Baseband, 60670PRL and my kernel is Decad3nc #11
Sprint is currently havng 3G issues, Chicago looks to be fixed (maybe)
as of the last 30 minutes to an hour, all is right with the market and internet on my phone... "YAAAYYY... and there was much rejoicing".... we'll see if it holds
It's a google problem, nothing to do with the phone or the rom

Yeah, Chicago was fixed today. Yesterday I couldn't use Navigation because there wasn't a connection being made to Google's navigation servers.

[Q] Google Play Error 403 after factory reset [MOVE REQUESTED]

Edit: To mod: If possible, please move this thread to a non device specific subforum, as people with different devices are experiencing the same problem.
So today I decided to factory reset my HTC One, and install back some applications I had previously.
However, after the factory reset I am unable to either install or update any application, with the Google Play Store returning: ""{app}" could not be downloaded due to an error. (403)".
I've been looking around a bit and have seen quite some others with this issue, however no solutions have worked for me. What I've tried:
Logged into Hangouts and confirmed mobile number.
Removed Google account in settings --> Go to Apps>All> and force stop Google Play Store, Google Service Framework and Download Manager, then clear cache and data for each --> Added back Google account --> Restarted device (without launching Google Play Store).
Using a new gmail account.
Clearing Proxy: I've looked in my Wi-Fi and APN Settings, both of which have no proxy set to begin wit.
Using 3G instead of Wi-Fi.
Another factory reset (repeated other steps afterwards).
Installing apps onto my device from my PC (it won't attempt to install them on the phone).
Please note my phone is not rooted and I'm not planning on rooting my phone any time soon.
Thanks in advance,
Errors4l.

Interesting, this is happening to me also after a factory reset of my HTC One. Tried all of the above, my phone too is not rooted however the bootloader is unlocked.

Yeah I've encountered quite some threads of people having this problem with the HTC One, however their solutions have not worked for me. Hoping someone can bring an answer to this thread
Yea it just seems unusual that it has happened to us pretty much at the same time under the same circumstances, maybe there is some issue with the store rather than our devices, I hope so!
Having exactly the same problem, tried everything. Even got a new handset because of the original issue which caused me to perform the factory reset. Maybe a problem with Google Play?
Hey guys!
I did a factory reset on my LG Swift L9 today
and also can't download any app from Google Play
due to 403. It may not be related to HTC One only.

I've got a new Nexus 5 delivered to me hours ago, first time using it and i can confirm the same sadly, hopefully it will be resolved soon !
What would be the quickest way to alert a mod so that the thread can be moved to a non device specific forum?
Hi all,
Picked up a Nexus 7 today - it was initially loaded with an old build of Android (Blue connectivity bars not white etc) and everything seemed to be working fine. Notification popped up for me to install the latest version, so I stopped what I was doing, got it installed and I'm now stuck with the same 403 errors as everyone else.
Looks to me like a Play Store issue but damn infuriating seeing as I can't even put any basic apps on my shiny new Nexus.
Noticed on another forum earlier that someone was having the same issue, and a guy responded saying he'd returned his Galaxy Tab to the store it came from today (Curry's, I think?) and after the staff there contacted Samsung - they were told that it was an issue with the Play Store. No obvious citations of course, but seems pretty legit what with everything else going on.
And now we wait...

I changed the title and inserted a request in the first post, hope it'll get noticed faster this way by a moderator
(Not so) sorry for double post.
I just tried again, without making any changes to my phone, and I just downloaded 3 different apps (2 I had previously, 1 new one).
Need a confirmation if the problem is solved for other people (with different devices) before I request a close.
Yeah, it works for me too now!

Nope, still 403'ing over here. But I'll keep checking in case it's gradually being fixed.
Still getting errors here too.
403 =/
I'm glad it's not just me.
I tried resetting/clearing everything thinking it was my phone cos I just recently rooted and flashed this brand spanking new HTC One (it was a replacement for my broken HTC One that had a working store :crying, until I went ahead and Googled this annoying error.
Seems like it's a problem on the Google end! =/
Get same error, tried RUU reset and ViperOne ROM.
Still 403 error! Very annoying
Spent 2 hours or so messing installing cyanogen on my new nexus and thought I'd ****ed up. Then googled it. I can believe it, talk about bad timing. lol
Looks like we are not alone...

[Q] Internal Service Error - Lack of network....

Several months ago I installed CM10 on my Nook HD+ and for the most part everything runs perfectly.
However in mid March I installed a Cyanogen update and very soon after I noticed many of my apps (all downloaded from Amazons app of the day) would not run, giving me the following error:
Internal Service Error: An internal error occurred. This can be caused by a lack of network connectivity, please make sure you have a good network connection.
At the time, I Googled and tried the suggestions I found (although the suggestions were all for other devices such as Kindle Fire). I checked the time and date were correct, deregistered and reregistered my device and tried rebooting.
And that seemed to fix the issue, although I concede I havent been using the Nook much lately.
Tonight I went to use my Nook to play a few games and the problem is back and its even worse now. I now cannot play any of my games, even ones I have played numerous times before without any wifi turned on. We dont have wifi at home, I tether my phone when I want to use the internet on my Nook. I do know there are some games that require internet access, however the vast majority of mine dont, which I know for a fact as I've played them so often with no internet.
So, why all of a sudden, does everything need wifi? How can I fix this? Is it just coincidence the problem occurred immediately after a system update, and if it could be the update that caused it, how can I find out which update it was and can it be uninstalled?
The instances of this I found mentioned online mainly referred to it happening to just one app, and some people found uninstalling and reinstalling the app fixed the issue. But I have close to 200 apps all doing this.
Since I mainly use the Nook for playing these games, its useless to me as it is now and if I cant fix this issue I wont have any choice but to remove the Mod and return it to stock software, which I really dont want to have to do.
Please can someone help me with this, in basic, non-technical language please?
Thank you.
Hello?
Please, does anyone have any input on this problem? Have I asked in the wrong forum?
I asked about this in another forum and it was suggested that maybe the update made my Nook appear like a new device to Amazon and that the error message is the games wanting to confirm with Amazon that the license to run the game was correct (or something along those lines).
I have just tried uninstalling and reinstalling a couple of games and now they work so it would appear that suggestion is exactly what has happened. So I guess I now have to uninstall and redownload all those 200+ apps and games, which is going to be a nightmare with no internet at home.
And if updates cause the device to appear different, then how do I know this wont keep happening with future updates? I am not going to keep reinstalling every thing, so do I just turn updates off instead? That doesnt seem like a very wise idea.
I would really appreciate some help with this please, or even just to be pointed in the right direction if I should be asking elsewhere.
Thank you.
Well I guess no one has any advise or help of any kind to offer. I will post this update in case anyone else has the same issue.
I ended up having to uninstall and redownload every one of my apps, and now they all work fine again, so I can only assume the suggestion I received on a different forum that the update made my device appear as a new device, meaning the internet was needed for the apps to check licenses with Amazon was correct.
With this in mind, I would now never recommend the Cyanogen mod to any one else. Whats the point if updates are going to screw everything like this? I have now turned off the updates, which I would normally never do. When my Nook gets to the stage of having to have updates I will uninstall Cyanogen and just go back to using a stock Nook.
Its a shame as I have been very happy with it up until all this happened but since there is no back up or support from anyone when things go wrong, its simply not worth the hassle.
