[SOLVED] Completely lost on brand/make of a phone.. - Off-topic

Hi all!
I have a looked ALL over the internet but I cannot find an answer so that's why I'm posting here.
Some months ago I've seen people with a white slide-phone. I believe its from Samsung but I'm not sure, as it's not on their site (at least, I have not found it!). I think it's a special-edition one, but I'm not sure.
Other info that might be helpfull; it's a pretty big phone, it slides, it is white (possibly in other colours too), I think it's a Samsung or possibly Nokia and it has been seen in the Netherlands (which is where I live ).
I know I'm a bit vague on this but if anyone could tell me anything at all, I'd be ever so grateful! I've tried finding a similar picture but no such luck!
Regards,
I give up. I dont know which phone it is and I think I never will

Man, that's really really vague. All you have for us to go on is: white slider.
Does it slide horizontally to reveal a qwerty keyboard? Does it slide vertically to reveal a T9 keypad? Can you tell if it has a touchscreen?
When I think of a white slider, I think of the Sony Ericsson Aino...

what made it so interesting to you?

I believe that what made it interesting to him was the white slider aspect of it...and that it may or may not have been a Samsung....maybe...
then again....
maybe not....
did he happen to mention its white sliding attributes?

i was figuring that there would be something else that i could identify the phone with.

man, if you are going to mention that the phone with is a slider phone, you have to describe what kind of slider it is.
Do you get a qwerty keyboard or a dialpad?
Did it have a touch screen?
How big is it?
How can you not even mention these things?

Ok, first im a she
Ok, the other information is that it reveals a T9 keypad and I think it's rather big of size (maybe 0,5 cm thick, and 10 cm from top to bottom). It does not have a touchscreen but it does have a d-pad (like the buttons that goes up, down, left and right)
Why I want to know this so badly is because I might want to buy one, but I can hardly walk into a store and ask for a "white, possibly Samsung, slider-phone" so I figured I'd ask for some help here
If there's anything else you want to know, I'll see if I can remember it
@ohyeahar, no its not the Aino

Actually, I think I'll give up on it haha my Samsung U600 still works great!
Thanks for the help haha
I'll ask the first person I see with that phone, which one it is

Is there a way to make the Contact picture display larger upon getting a call?
Given the format of the bar at the bottom I'm not assuming this is possible.. but I figured I'd ask.. (I've looked around and searched but no luck)

Slide to unlock or more accurately S2U2 does this fine.
Have a look here.
This works fine.

You can also edit the answer and end button graphics.
Unfortunately you have to pay around $30.
Other that that it is great software.

Lots of similar threads around but I use the s2u2 (slide 2 unlock ) which does the trick for me.
only a few annoyances such as the picture quality being bad and also the top of the picture gets cut off but its still made it a hell of a lot easier to know whos calling when driving for instance

They also have a version of Photo Contacts that is $20. Works great for me.
U can use S2U2 from A_C, Search the forum or look in Development & Hacking section.

Wiz, HAve you used S2U2 yet? I've been browsing through that thread and it seems it's pretty hit and miss with different models? Tilt Friendly?
If you say it's a go. I'll go for it.. =P As long as you've got it working, (or know someone who has) on a Kais/Tilt..

Seems like a pretty good program, You like it.. How's it work with HTC Home/other cabs you've installed?
It also looks like it would be pretty beefy in size.. notice any slowdowns?
Thanks

Yes I have v.86 of S2U2 working fine on my Vario III.
I have had no issues with it. I used PocketCM to allocate the photos to contacts as it appears to allow you to use better quality photos, they are zoomed to fill the screen otherwise.

App to answer and end touch screen?

Is there an app for this? And does the phone have to be rooted? just seems practical on the touch screen
What do you mean, like for in-call options?
I think he doesn't want to hit the green phone button, but the screen, to answer a call, as well as ending the call w/o using the red End button.

So is there something? and does it require a root? can I have a link if its not to much trouble ..the search feature here forwards u to google so its tough to use

Don't worry about them. Your question is legitimate, and the suggestion to use the buttons on the phone was a workaround, not a resolution. These internet tough guys like to show their virtual muscles for everyone to see. Just learn to ignore them.

Back to topic.
I would agree with Turbo, it would be cool to have a function like this, however, when you are on your phone, your cheek rubs against the screen, (and don't tell me yours don't ever touch the screen) it would be nice to be able to have this option with an enable/disable function.

Well that WAS a problem b4 cupcake, not sure if you noticed or not but while on a call after several seconds the screen locks/sleeps, and when on a call and the Dialpad is up it requires a "Double-Tap to unlock" on screen to unlock it. Unless your chewing gum or bouncing it off your cheek it should not be a problem. You can also use Shake Awake.
Now if someone could make a app like OP wants, it would be NICE, as I been looking for something like it for a long time.

True, forgot about that. also if you are using a headset, it doesn't matter either...
Yes, the Hero ROM describes what you're talking about. It has a Green "ANSWER" button and a red "DECLINE" button, just like the iPhone.
Unfortunatly, an APP can't do this yet because it's all built into the version of the phone, not an application itself. If someone could port it over, that'd be great!

well if im correct i dont think the hero rom is the only 1...i may be wrong but i think the HTC Magic ports that Haykuro did also had a different way to answer the phone it had the HTC dialer, its been a while since i used that rom been dealing with Hero, its a little more stable and user friendly then hero you may want to check that rom out.

I used to run off of Haykuro's builds since he started making them. I haven't seen any HTC builds with an on-screen answering option like the Hero build. I know all about the HTC dialer, but there's no on-screen things that are drastically different.
Besides, the Magic and the Dream have no difference UI-wise except for the tiny extra features that Haykuro's "H" builds have offered.

[Q] Galaxy Note Screen Issues!!!

Dear friends...
Im new here so Ill try to be breif.
I bought a galaxy Note and I have an issue.
Im not familiar with terms so I dont know if my problem is called banding or anything else of the kind.
In a page that has a white backround (happens with some other backgrounds too but especially with white) I notice this:
The white changes shades... for ex.: it could take a pink-ish shade or a green-ish shade or a light blue one. All this ofcourse as a shade and not eye-popping differences. Just noticable.
Does anyone have knowledge on this issue?
What I'm really sick about finding out is if others are facing this problem also or if this is just my devise because Im an extremly lucky person and I dropped it right out of the box!!! So my worry is if I did some damage to the screen, or if this is just an issue with the hd led display.
Any help would be highly appreciated because as you understand, I will feel much less stupid if this is a common problem, rather than having caused it myself.
Thanking in advance
Gus
Uh... sounds like you need to return it. It shouldn't change shades when displaying white.
^^^Copy that, you need to get that replaced.

Does the white change shades while you are looking at the phone directly or when you are moving it sideways and viewing from varying angles?
Same problem here
I have the same issue with the screen you describe! I thought I am the only one...Could it be a wide-spread problem and other don't notice it? it is a very faint hue change from pink to green with a variable frequency but on low-brightness is annoying as it distracts me from reading... I do not know if it is a problem with the device or a feature of the superamoled display; I did not see this on my Galaxy s1 nor S2.
So, my concern: is this going to stay like this, to degenerate or to cure by itself.
I may return the phone but due to the stock shortage I will have to stay without it and I am quite hooked by this device...
Also due to the fact that this is barely visible it may not be accepted for servicing.
I know exactly what you are talking about, and i have seen it in my device. Do not fear, it is not a hardware fault, and is not caused by your drop:
Go to settings / display and scroll down. You will see 'auto adjust screen power' and when this is checked it seems to cause this, although i agree it is barely noticeable.
I keep mine checked because i prefer the potential power savings
I want to thank everyone for their replies!
Thank you Gahshn and dannstarr.
You cant imagine what a releif it is to know I didnt cause this problem myself.
Dannstarr thank you VERY much for your settings suggestion.
Im under the impression that it DID reduce the frequency of the problem quite much but it didnt completely stop.
Nevertheless, it is an improvement.
The fact that Im not alone on this, is a releif by itself but,
anyone else who is facing the problem and has more suggestions on this, please reply!!!
I guess there's no point on taking it to Samsung now.
They'll just do a factory reset and I'll loose what ever free apps and progress within apps and games I've made.
directly my friend
Different light intensity
I have a similar problem. I don't so much see shades with different colors, but different light intensities, horizontally across the screen if you hold it in portrait mode (typical way of holding in one hand).
You mostly notice it when all the display is grey, but also a bit on white.
You can see it by downling the free tool "Screen test" and going to the third page (first is white, second black and third grey).
I made a picture of it.
Do you have this issue?
I wonder if it makes sense trying to replace it.
@ Hironimo
Yes my friend, I downloaded the app that u said and these lines DO appear maybe not as intense as shown on the photo but visible.
As far as my issue, its very nerve braking because it doesnt appear at once so if you wanna show someone what ur talking about its very difficult.
Its more vissible with low brightness and with apps with white backround like gmail or browsing etc. You observe the screen for a minute or less, and it appears.
I think we hit the jackpot with this screen and I think we should all contact samsung in Korea because they are enjoing almost my one month salary and I am getting dizzy by reading within their so called hd super amoled screen! If I only knew......

I have a similar issue - horizontal banding in landscape view and hue change of white between pink and green (!) - barely visible in plain light but annoying whan screenfilter is on (screenfilter is a free app to reduce the brightness for use at night); I have not seen other phone (none of my friends have this model) but on previous phones I had I did not notice this type of problem.
I do not think it is a defect - is more like a variation in quality of the pentilematrix I would not expect from a manufacturer this screen.
Sending for replacement may look bizarre because it is a minor problem and you may be told that no screen is perfect and have issues like this to some extent.
Yes, this is also my take on it.
It is no major defect, and indeed if I send it in for repair they may say there is nothing wrong. And if I send it back to amazon saying it is faulty they will replace it (once) and I may get a screen with the same issue.
I do have to say that on the photo it appears clearer as when you normally look at it, and in normal use you seldomly notice it.
But when I compare it with my "old" galaxy s2 I know what evenly lit means ...
My friend also tells me i thinks the defect is not big enough to do something about it.
In so many other respects I love the note.
Especialy that FINALLY they have volume controls on the headset.
But I'm very intersted to see how many others have this or similar issues...
Maybe if we are enough we can contact Samsung and get a statement.
What about creating a poll?
edit: sorry, other topic.

See the pic, that is supposed to be full black. Granted, this was taken in total darkness and with a long shutter, but it can still be seen. Hell, I noticed it yesterday when I wanted to take notes on a black background, under standard room lighting conditions.

Wow, I also have this problem and really thought it was just me because nobody had mentioned it so far. It's a problem that doesn't feel big enough to send the phone back, but is a big enough problem to annoy the hell out of me.
I have so far chosen to ignore the issue, but agree with the other comments regarding the fact that tinkering with the settings does make it less apparent. And again, I agree that I love the phone so much, I don't want to send it back for repair (if that's what it needs), but the underlying problem is... does it need a repair? or is it a feature?

So far only under moderate light and a black background. Which is what I'd use for e-book reading or writing into the note app during a session.
edit: tried it with fbreader, on night mode. You won't notice it during the evening, even with minimum brightness, unless there are a couple of empty lines. Then it looks as if the screen would be dirty.

Judging from the fact that there are many of us, it seems that it is not a matter of repair.
But... Im surprised that not all users have noticed and I sure would like the opinion of a samsung technician or a professional. Just to make sure.
But I also have difficulty turning it in...
Thats why we are here
To be convinced that it is a general issue and not individual.

I have the same issue, and I haven't dropped mine. But it's subtle enough that I wouldn't be surprised if many ppl don't even notice it. It hasn't been bad enough to bother me... Just kinda makes me wonder if I'm setting things sometimes

Would you return this phone? (Video)

Please watch the following video of my screen and tell me I'm not crazy for wanting to return this based on it's screen which seems to be flickering between cold and warm hues. If you watch the grey areas carefully you can see it switching between having a blue tint, to having more of a red tint.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fmraqenxno&feature=youtu.be
I'm worried that because the issue is so slight they won't accept the return, what do you guys think? Is it obvious to you? A fault is a fault right?
I found someone that also has the same problem!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-mVWkBK41I
First of all, no offense, but that video is mostly blurry.
Secondly, I think it looks fine. By all means, return 10 of them until you get the perfect unit, but it looks fine as per your grainy video. Yes I watched in 1080p.
It seems people are so over obsessive about every little bitty thing about phones these days. It looks fine to me.
Maybe u set your setting to Auto adjust screen power.
Try disable it Setting>Display>Auto adjust screen power.
See if the problem solved.
It's already disabled - thanks for the suggestion though. Why should someone put up with a screen that's changing colour temperature constantly? Secondly I'd rather not take the risk of this developing into a larger problem in six months and end up with £500 mess of a phone. Also it doesn't matter that the video is blurry is it pertains to colour not clarity. If the first video isn't clear enough take a look at the second, the problem is very obvious in that one.

Not to be rude, but just because you see some blue->red change (very slight, I couldn't even see it) on your screen, that makes the phone A MESS? Wow... Not to mention you have a 24 month warranty on it and if you have a problem with in in the next 23 months you can take it back to either get it fixed or have it replaced.
If the phone doesn't satisfy you, PLEASE return it. There is no need to post here and ask for advice if you think the phone will be a mess in a few months because of a slight color change (in your eyes, once again, I didn't see it). You should do what you think best. I really don't think you should take people's opinions into account if you believe your phone will not satisfy you. It's a personal choice.
I for one LOVE this phone! It's the greatest phone I've had since my SGSII lol.

Not to be rude, but read more carefully. I never said the colours currently make the phone a mess. I said that what is initially a small problem could turn into a larger one in time - why would anyone in their right mind take such a risk by not returning? The secondary reason I posted is because I thought others might have similar problems - and indeed they do, and now we have a thread relating to this SPECIFIC screen problem. It's documented, it's not useful to you, but it might be to one of the other people that will inevitably experience the same problem.
Upgrade to the kl7 update if it is available over the air. It will fix the hue problem in changing colour when scrolling. This way you still have warranty. If it doesn't work return the unit.

Mad? Not at all! I find it funny, that's all. If I am not satisfied with my phone, I'd return it. I wouldn't look to others to help me with it. Not to mention, we can't know how it will be in 6 months because no one has had this phone that long to know if it will turn into something more serious.

I never said it was a current mess, sounds like you could also read a little bit more carefully .

It's a personal choice. .

From the screen issues thread there are a multitude of different issues, ranging from black blocks in videos, banding, changing in hues of colors (which a lot of people are claiming has disappeared in the newest KL7 rom just released), etc. It's a very generic thread only specific to the screen itself.
Regardless, I understand your point. I'm sure a lot of people will find it helpful. All I was implying is that if YOU are not happy with the phone then YOU should return it. I personally didn't see much of a change in your videos, but if it's something that bugs you, then you should return it! No one can tell you how it will evolve because no one has had this phone for more than 2 months. So in 18 it could be the worst experience ever, or it could be exactly the same, or it could get fixed with software enhancements. I don't know. Sorry if it sounded as if I were mad, or offensive, it wasn't my intention. All I wanted to express was that if you weren't happy with it, then you should do what makes YOU comfortable, and not what others say here.

4x Display Question: Problem or normal behavior?

Hello guys,
I've noticed something, that to me, seems strange about the display in the 4x HD.
Usually in black backgrounds. What i see is some kind of "static", as if there were little waves moving when i focus on the black background. I can see that on some dark grey backgrounds too. Anyway, another easy way for me to see it is to open the notification bar. It's easy to see on the transparent part with a black background behind it.
Is this normal? I tried to look for those things in my old xperia arc, but i couldn't find it.
Neither did i find any topics on this.
This would be a bad thing for me, since i've just gotten a new 4x (the first one i got had those "particles' of dust in the screen). And it was really hard to make them give me a new one. Now it would be pretty much impossible.
I don't really think it's a big deal, i guess, but you know, just to be sure.
Thank You!

Its not a normal behavior, I already had that once or twice but, maybe because I don't care a lot with the phone, sometimes I seat on it... or it falls... I care but not like if it was made of glass...
Try to squeeze it gently when that happends, maybe some kind of bad contact of the display, if doesn't disappear take it to the service center (unless if you live in Poland of course...).
To the OP: that actually happened to mine once. All I did was a simple reboot and everything was back to normal. It was kinda weird.
I don't know if you experienced the same thing that i did. They don't seem to go away. They are always there. After reboot too. I'll update firmware cause i haven't done that yet. Then i'll post back.
Thank You!
