voice search - Touch CDMA Android Development

Has anyone found out how to make voice search work? I tried different ways and still come up with results that are not even close.

You must be using an Eclair build, they haven't quite got the audio lib's perfect so voice search doesn't work yet.
If you really want it, use a donut build like plemen's or myn's. Voice search works great on donut.

Alternative Dialer?

I'm thinking of moving from the Hero roms back to good old CyanMod in my own personal "[expletive deleted] off!" to Google. However, I remember the old Phone/Dialer combo from pre-Hero Android lacking a T9 search and recent/missed/dialed calls in the dialer view, as I'm farrrrr too used to now with Hero.
I've tried some of the free market apps (Dialer+ and SuperDial to be specific) and I can deal with them (SuperDial) if need be, but is there any better dialer alternative for CM roms? Or should I just shutup and deal with it until Google gets their cranium out of there rectum and starts making Android as great as it can be?

You got it, Dialer+, superDialer, and Smart Dialer is all there is. You could try using Enomther's Rogers build to get the HTC Dialer back though...
Also, you should be able to use Cyanoge's boot.img with a stock rogers's rom to make your own build. You get BFS goodness, plus cyanonge's roms already have a com.htc.framework.jar call in the boot classpath, so Rogers should work fine

Search By Voice & Donut

Hi,
I've got a UK Vodafone Magic and just received the OTA Donut update today. However it seems to have broken the Google Search By Voice app, as I just seem to get a Force Close everytime I try to use it.
I've tried uninstalling it and re-installing it but it still doesn't work.
Anybody got any ideas?
Cheers
Mark
Same problem here mate! I've been playing around with donut for the last 3 days, but voice search is completely broken (not even there to be more precise). Just hope google provide us with a fix in the near future.
Guys ,
theirs an updated version of Google search by voice on the market and it is now donut compatible
Is there any way of getting Search by voice if it doesn't list on market? I'm on vodafone.nl and according to google themselves, voice dial/voice search is not available in my country.. which is a tad awkward due to laws regarding phoning while driving...
Seeing I can't find a working root guide for 1.6 using MarketEnabler is out of the question unless I roll back to 1.5, which in turn doesn't have the new search capabilities....

I can't help you with rooting a 1.6 phone, as I rooted at 1.5, but you certainly can root and then flash a 1.6 ROM. That is how I got Donut as my carrier still has not released it.

voice Keyboard

Anyone find a voice keyboard (Paid or Free) that works with Myn's warm Donut. If I can get this to work I will have the perfect android build, for now.

using chomp sms (or handcent sms) will cover you for sms. or you could take the plunge and try mssmison's eclair, the default eclair keyboard has voice to text built in.
I tried mssmison's eclair before switching to Myns warm donut, the voice never worked on anything, myns works on everything very well, except there is no voice keyboard..

may want to double check that, they voice keyboard works since that latest updates to the audio driver.
works better than it does on donut too, IMHO.

[Q] Vivid with ICS and the Voice Dialer.

I am going to upgrade to Vivid from my Inspire 4G. But I just read that with ICS Voice Dialer no longer works and that is one thing on my Inspire 4g that I use the most. What I like to do is get the Vivid (only $49 from Att and it already comes with ICS) and root it to install the last version of GB that the Voice Dialer worked. I have been reading the crippled Voice Dialer thread and it seems that everybody is looking for a workaround to the problem but willing to live with the flaw just to have ICS. I don't really know the major difference between the GB and ICS but to me, it really isn't worth changing if I am going to lose the Voice Dialer. Has anyone else tried what I want to do? I have been reading the Vivid forum I can tell there is lot of difference how things are done to root this phone than my Inspire 4G. I would appreciate any input regarding this matter.
I happened to stumble upon a pretty good interim solution. It's called Voice Control. The free version is called Voice Control Test.
I have tried them all and this is the only one that comes close to working correctly without screwing up other Bluetooth devices.

I decided to go back to GB for this very same reason. ICS is nice and all, and, as a whole there are many changes and optimization's. But if you use sense, 3.5 is not that different from 3.6. Not only voice dialer does not work over bluetooth, there are also many apps that don't work or do not work correctly on 4.03.
After I went S-off on my phone I just decided to install an older version of android. I was afraid that the new Hboot would screw things up but I still tried it and everything seems to be working. I did have a little of an issue with the kernel so I flashed it twice, before and after installing the gingerbread rom.
Third Party Voice Dialer Apps
There is a extensive thread on this issue in the General section. This link takes you to page 4 where I discuss Cyberon Voice Commander. I had also tested Vlingo.

At least one person tried to use a custom ROM with the voice dialer added back in. While there are differing opinions on what works best, I found Voice Commander with ICS to have the same functionality as the built-in voice dialer in Android 2.3.4. Look at the whole thread to see what others have to say.
See also this thread for another recommended app.

Cyberon Voice Commander made my BT functionality flakey.
However, I found Voice Control which works must better. I think the free version is called Voice Control Test.
Set the accuracy low and fast which is the 2 setting. Even at this low accuracy, it is really good.

One point we should make is that Bluetooth sets in vehicles and BT headsets can vary in their capabilities and ability to work with the Vivid (and other phones). While CVC works well for me, WillGill had more success with another product.
It may take some experimenting as WillGill and I did (and Vivid 2X also), but I believe you can find a product that will restore voice dialer capabilities without having to root your phone and install a custom ROM. Of course, Google should never have removed it, but that's another issue.
Just wanted to share my solution:

[APP]Google Now for ICS AOSP

What's working: text and search
What is NOT working: voice input

Hit thanks if you find this helpful!
Wow, sweet. I'll have to give this a try. Would it work with AOKP based ROMs as well? And what are your thoughts on voice search, coming or not possible?
EDIT: Installed on Kangyultra using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28234189&postcount=142 Works to some degree, like showing weather but sometimes does not give results. Will test it out more.
Stock (root),
confirmed : voice not working atm
Voice not working because it requires an api from level 16 and a special driver, and that also caused our JB roms to have no audio. currently there is no solution, but dont worry, this is only a glimpse of what to come mid-july!
Just found this awhile ago. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752301
