Cant root < waiting for device > - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i have tried and tried and searched and search and i cant find a solution to this. i am trying to root my phone, i have all the right files and drivers.
start the phone in boot loader
start comand prompt
type fastboot-windows oem unlock
and i get
< waiting for device >
anyone have any idea for a fix for this?
Thanks
Sam

If you're in the correct mode, my guess is that the USB drivers are not installed properly. You can also try a different USB port.

Wrong drivers? What Windows version are you running? Do you have another OS available?

Only one of two things here...
1 - drivers (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=613217)
2 - mode (with the power off, hold down the trackball and power button. Once you see the droids on skateboards, fastboot will work)

ok so for drivers, adb works so i think i have to the right ones, i also have downloaded the most recent ones from google. and yes i have it in the fast boot mode....

Have you enabled USB debugging?

yes i have put the device in debugging

i tryed a different fastboot (1.0ere27-nexusone-superboot) and it worked.
thanks for your help
sam

Whats the link to that different fastboot download

read these tips first about your USB errors, then find the correct HTC driver, maybe your driver is corrupted
you can re-install HTCSync or search for updates
be sure your PC had latest Drivers too

I just did all this and it still won't reconize it. It is weird because when I connect the phone to my pc it gives a sound and when I disconnect the phone my computer will also give a sound. So the computer sees the phone he just won't reconize it

From what I could read, the only way into the phonr now for you is the fastboot. You are able to get into fastboot. So theoritically you could flash a custom recovery again and save your phone, provided your computer recognises the phone.
So, I beleieve there is no point in trying to look for a diifrent PC. Your PC should be fine. Make sure you are connecting the phone to USB 2.0 port and not to a 3.0 port. Use the standard USB cable that comes with the phone and not any cable. Uninstall all HTC software inluding drivers and wipe your computer clean using something like Ccleaner. Restart. Download and install latest HTC Sync Manager. Dwnload latest SDK package (64 or 32 bit depending on your PC). Use the latest fastboot/adb files to ping your phone and see if it works. If it works, then I beileve you know how to flash a custom recovery. Please keep us posted on your progress.

[Solved]M7 Soft bricked,ADB/Fastboot not working,No OS as well,TWRP 2.6.3.3

Hello.I am in some kind of a trouble..I just bought a phone with firmware problems, hoping i could make it work. The problem is this, someone tried to update the firmware, unsuccesfully, and now it's stuck with no OS.I can only start recovery and bootloader.
Recovery is Teamwin 2.6.3.3.Already tried to clear cache and everything,to use an USB with OTG,but it's not recognised,ADB sideload also it's not working.
adb devices shows the phone is not connected, and FastBoot says "Waiting for device".Any idea? I've tried, read a lot,but I can't really work it out..
Also,I can't find the device in Device Manager, neither in ADB nor Fastboot.
I tried using Windows 8.1 and 7..Same deal.
Thank you!

First, follow instructions given in this post to install the latest android sdk-tools and the latest htc drivers. Also make sure you don't have HTC Sync installed on your computer.
Then connect your phone to you computer with the original cable (or any other cable already known to work for data transfer - some usb cable are only providing power), reboot the phone in bootloader mode by holding vol down and power. Make sure you see the red "fastboot usb" caption on the screen, if not use vol up/down and power to select the "fastboot" menu. Once there open a command window form the android sdk-tools folder and type "fastboot getvar all". Copy/paste the ouput of this command here (except the imei and serialno).
I've followed that,and still not working.pics attached.
It's very weird, because I was expecting for a soundfrom the Windows, like a new device connected .But ..nothing

Ok so its not detected at all
Might be caused by
a bad usb cable --> Try another one that you are 100% sure its working
a bad usb port on the computer (use only usb 2.0 ports btw)
a problem with the computer ---> Try another computer.
a bad usb port on the phone ---> need to replace the usb/front mic board
Might also worth to fix your laptop drivers problem. Might be causing problem if the "unknown" device is an adapter or usb controller...
Then reboot the computer.
I think we can exclude the first two, because I've tried 2 different USB cables, and with my S2 ,both of them are working, even ADB.I will try to replace the usb port from the phone, and then try again. But,do you think it will work ?
Thank you!

Its hard to tell, there isn't any background info about what was done on that phone. The usb board is pretty cheap so it worth a try if you are 100% sure everything else is fine (computer, cables etc..)
I understand, but,I mean,as far as I know,it's not hard brick, because the phone is still booting..in some way ..so if I manage to connect it,I can flash the rom..am I right?

Normally it should be pretty easy to fix if you can get fastboot and adb connectivity. You could then update the firmware so you can flash the correct RUU to restore the phone back to stock, already made the research and all the files (firmware and ruu) you'll need are available.

Sorry for the late reply, the phone is now in service,in 1-2 days they should fix the USB board, and I will get back with more info soon.
Thank you very much for your quick answers and for taking time to help me!
Good news,I've managed to unbrick it.I asked a friend with a Mac to check it out,and his Mac recognized with no problems.Installed the Os,but still,Windows can't detect it.I've tried on 2 pc's(7 and 10) with the proper drivers.Weird..
Anyway,thank you for your time @alray !

[HELP] Problems trying to flash to stock, to flash to Android N

So I am currently rooted on a Motorla Nexus 6 in Android 5.1.1, I started up the Nexus Root Toolkit and when it finishes downloading stock Android 60.1 to restore my device ready for Android N it sends the adb reboot bootloader command but my device then says in the bootloader menu "Connect USB Data Cable"
Since I cannot post the image link of what the toolkit says then I will just write it below...
"FASTBOOT device was not found
STEP #1: Connect your device via USB:
- Utilize the OEM USB cable if available
- Try an alternative USB port.
STEP #2: Manually Boot your device into bootloader mode:
- Power your device down completely:
- Press and hold the volume down button, them press and hold the power button t the same time until the phone turns on. You'll see the word 'start' with an arrow around it/
STEP #3: Install drivers:
- Utilize the 'initial setup' if you not done so already.
- USB debugging is NOT required for connectivity in bootloader mode.
- Just follow the the instructions in the guide for configuring your device in bootloader mode.
- For example: if you are using driver solution #3, start on step 7.
Alternatively you may just need to recheck connection.
Press 'OK' to recheck device connectivity.
Press 'Cancel' to exit this script"
If anyone has any info on how to get around or resolve this issue as I cannot proceed with the stock flash unless the Fastboot connectivity is working, then that would be great
(if it helps I already have Android Studio installed with all its components)

did you install adb and fastboot onto your computer? it doesnt matter if you have the driver installed if you dont have the actual program installed onto your computer. and anyways, learn to do it right instead of using a toolkit, its very easy.

and about toolkits, i dont recommend using them, but feel free to. its just many dont take the time to learn to do it the "right" way. but if you do know it, a toolkit is alright usually.

No it doesn't. LG Up detects it when phone is On, but when LG Up restarts the device in fastboot, it says no devices connected, even when drivers are installed. Yes, the USB port is 2.0, and it can't be problem with port of phone since it is detected in normal mode. I will try these drivers and let you know if it works. Thank you

BTW here is the log from fastboot mode:

usb_read(); DONE. ERROR. len 64
SECURE BOOT: DISABLED

Question Phone in fastboot mode not recognised

Since I flashed my Mi 11 ultra from CN to EEA version Rom, it is not recognised by Windows 10 laptop when in fastboot mode.
Its the same Win 10 laptop which I used to flash the phone, so all the drivers are still installed.
You have to turn USB Debugging on again in developer settings
Done that. I've done everything. It just doesn't get recognised. No little chime when I plug it in, nothing. It works in normal mode, but not fastboot.

Bro not like this. Iam asking if i can connect remotely to your PC to diagnose the drivers.
Unusual xiaomi drivers and adb devices and reinstall
Have a look and try out the method mentioned in the video. Did the trick for me
I did all of it. I don't even get that little chime that lets you know when you plug the phone in. Silence.
It works fine in normal mode.
Hi @spikemann007 !
I had the same issue.
Root cause was (for me) the USB cable. Have you already tried a alternative?
best regards!
