Custom Boot Animation - Droid Eris Themes and Apps

Has anyone tried yet? If so would appreciate a tutorial. I would love to be able to create my own or a the very least get rid of the Verizon Animation. Thanks.

Howto on its way.

It's very simply. Here's an example to have a Nexus bootscreen.
Delete the file: /system/media/bootanimation.zip
Make a folder called: /system/media/bootscreen/
Unzip these files into there: http://www.sendspace.com/file/0qwx4v
You can open up the xml file and see how to customize it in there, or just replace the nexus .gif files with your own.

GrdLock, Thank you very much.
Also want to thank all the devs for all their hard work. I know we all do this during our free time as a hobby. And i'm sure i'm like most when i say my free time is very important to me and a lot of the times a rarity. So i truly appreciate everyone's hard work and time put into this.
Also this might be a stupid question (sorry if it is). In order to delete and create those folders... What program do i need to use? I'm assuming SDK? If so what are the commands?
Thanks for any help, i'm trying to learn as i go with this.

Sweet. I can wait to do this once I get root. Im tired of seeing the verizon animation.

You can change this without root just follow the guide here.

If anyone wants it. Here's the default HTC Boot animation from 1.5.
The only thing i did was resize it to 320X480.
This zip replaces the white "HTC Quietly Brilliant" and the verizon wireless animation with original Black HTC boot animation.

What do you mean to fit 2.1?

If thats what you mean, just want to let you know you can use wayyyyyyy, more than that, I have out that is 250+ pngs and it runs fine.

Blue Droid Eye
Hey guys, first time poster, been keeping up to date with everything but I happened to be one of the unlucky ones who installed the leak 2.1 before root..."doh!"
Anyway I have this custom boot animation that I found a while back, but every time I try to re-size it and edit the desc.txt and reload it to /data/local/ it shows nothing for a boot image.
Any ideas?

I stand corrected.

1. Download the ZIP of the boot animation you would like to apply to your phone.
* For the first boot animation (with green flare, do not unzip the file. Just move it to your tools folder.
* For the second or third boot animations, please unzip the file you download from here, resulting with a folder with another ZIP - inside, called bootanimation.zip. Please move that bootanimation.zip to your Android-(SDK)-Tool-Folder
2. Open up a command prompt, and head into your local tools folder.
cd C:\Android\tools
Click to collapse
(Or whatever folder you choosed for Android Tools)
3. Now, enter the following commands, one line at a time.
adb remount
adb mv
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/bootanimation.zip
adb reboot
Click to collapse
Now when your phone begins to reboot, it should be using the new boot animation you just applied to your phone. Note that if this does not work on your phone, please use the following commands:
cd C:\Android\tools
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/media/bootanimation.zip
adb reboot
Click to collapse
This block of commands will remove the bootanimation.zip file that we just wrote, hopefully leaving you with the old animation you had, before. I just tested all of these commands an they do indeed work, on my CDMA HTC Hero running RegawMod 2.1t.
For VillainRom 10.3.x Users:
You have to push it to /system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip to make it work!
---------------------------
One IMPORTANT Thing:
I don't want anyone to mirror the animations or to post them in another Forum without my permission!!
I'll always keep them uploaded so you can download them here anytime!
[Reserved for later use]
I like a lot. I'm going to use, but I would like more without the last spotlight. Just for my taste,

Awesome, I'm on it! Thanks

Badass.
I tried putting this in my ROM, didn't work. All I get is a black/blank boot. I am going to try a few things to get it working.
It worked on my eris with plain jane. Actually on boot it says htc hero.
Its not actually reading phone info, its just an animated Gif image. Which ever one you download it'll display whatever info is put into it, usually based on different devices. There isn't one for the Eris yet, but the hero has the screen dimensions. That's why it works.
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
anyone getting luck with KaosFroyo and this boot? Love the classic look. Also is there any posts for getting the standard boot animation back? Just in case I go ***** at Verizon one day

sorry i forgot to include the remount line first.

don't know why it wouldn't run your boot animation. Use root explorer to look in your system/media folder and make sure you've got bootanimation.zip in the folder (and only one copy of it).
From looking around xda forums, I've seen comments about boot animation in data/local but I've always placed mine in system/media when I've used kaosfroyo or any other froyo based rom.
I really like this a lot.
So much so that I have been working on modifying it for the eris.
Does anyone know any specifics of what the png files need to be?
I created mine in photoshop 7, saved each one as png files and named them in numerical order, but I just get a blank black screen. (I also made sure they were 320x480)
Do they have to be a certain color depth?
no clue, but i want one updated for my eris in the worst way. also, maybe make the font a tad bigger so it's easier to read? idk if this is possible without having the text cut off or wrap or something...but i'm willing to help if there's anything i can do.
eris animation
I figured out what the problem was... I wasn't saving the zip correctly
You have to create a zip with no compression ("store" in 7zip)
If you want to make your own changes, I have attached the psd file I used in addition to the bootanimation.zip (which is ready to be uploaded to your eris)
My photoshop skills suck so don't laugh too hard.
Also note that the animated gif below only shows the part that I modified, but the bootanimation.zip contains the full sequence.
Hmm seems like I'll have to modify it to show V27. Other then that great work!
For anyone on KaosFroyo heres the fixed Bios boostscreen for ya.
It can be found in this topic. Big kudos to sobsmb for taking the time to fix it.

[BOOT ANIMATION] Vaudeville Android - with Preview

I posted this over in the Vibrant forum, but wanted to share it with all of you. I have one other that I posted there that I'm redoing to include a shutdown animation as well. Let me know what you all think of this!
The zip is flashable through CWM on at least galaxy s phones and a mt4g, so I imagine it works on others, too.
Credit to jlbmgrnr for collaboration on the idea and packaging it.
- Standard disclaimer about me not being responsible for phones getting messed up goes here -

I love the vaudeville green man. Can you put up a version without the -unqualifiable- apple?
In 2011, it's not as if we still have fight to get the green man a seat at the table.
awesome boot animation man. already installed it to my HTC Desire HD. good thing it's 480-800 resolution by default. i thought i would spice it up by adding my own custom sound mp3 to go along with it. sound file link at the bottom of this post.for those with a DHD you can push the files through AndroidSDK adb with the following commands. for this instance i am using the rom LeeDROID 2.2.2. connect your dhd to your computer and make sure it is set to charge only and make sure debugging is set to on.
first download vaderville-boot-anim.zip and extract the contents to a folder on your computer. first go to system folder and then media folder and find the bootanimation.zip file. copy and paste the bootanimation.zip into the same folder where your adb.exe is located which is usually program files\android\android-sdk\platform-tools\. open up adb through your cmd prompt and execute the following commands to load the new boot animation.
adb remount
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
also extract and put the android_audio.mp3 file into the same folder as adb so type:
adb push android_audio.mp3 /data/local
now we test everything out by rebooting
adb reboot
if everything goes well, your dhd will reboot and play the awesome boot animation along with the "new york, new york" song by frank sinatra minus the voice. this tutorial can be applied to any android phone provided you know where your rom stores it's boot animation file and sound file.
thermanlee maybe you can ask jlbmgrnr to add this sound file to the package so it can be flashed through cwm. in the bootanimation.zip you can open up the desc.txt and change the resolution to fit your android phone and then save and flash it. enjoy
Awesome

UPDATE 3/27 Thunderbolt Bios Boot Animation with sound

This has been floating aroung for a couple of years now so I take no credit for the original idea.
UPDATE: I have redone the boot animation to see if this will work for those having issues with the original. Please give this one a try.
I simply edited all of the images to match the specs of the Thunderbolt.
When booting it has a sound of a hard drive starting up with beeps like an old PC.
This file greatly speeds up the boot proccess of the Thunderbolt as well!
The original file is about 3meg, this file is just over 1meg.

The attached zip file is not a flashable zip, it contains the boot animation.zip and the mp3 sound file. Open the zip file and copy the bootanimation.zip and the FinalThunder.mp3 to your computer so that you can copy them to your phone.
Depending on the ROM you are using place the 2 files in the following directory on your phone. If you are unsure, just look in the directory and if it has bootanimation.zip and FinalThunder.mp3 then you are in the right place.
You may have to set permissions on both files to rw-r--r--
(You could also use adb to push the files to your phone if you would rather)
If you think you may want to revert, copy the originals somewhere on your SD Card first.

And are you setting permissions? I'm not really sure that makes any difference but who knows.

LCARS Custom Boot Animation

I found this boot animation for the EVO 4G and I realy liked it! only problem, it's evo 4G only.... Anyone know if a simmialer one is here for the HTC Hero?

If you can find a download of it you can always resize the .png's to fit the hero screen size
The download is in mine post, tried to but didn't work.... Meby HTC HERO is completly different then the EVO ?
Yeah the screen size is different, hence why you'll need to resize all the .png files
Like I sad, I already resized all the .png files, but this didn't work

What's the problem, black screen?
If it's an animation, how have you packed the zip file?
The "bootanimation.zip" needs to be "STORED",
The flashable zip (if you put it in one), can be compressed.
You also need to make sure you dont have a "thumbs.db" in with Your images too!!
If it's a .gif make sure it's NOT optimised or you'll get a black screen also.
Hope this helps
I've tried both
adb push C:\bootanimation.zip /system/media/
and
adb push C:\bootanimation.zip system/customize/resource/
and they are in there, but still standard anim
I've attached my modified file for you gkillerx just in case you didn't change the screen sizes part of desc.txt
Argh phone just crashed.... Reflashing as we speak, will report back later.
Just flashed it and not working it's just not working to bad
What's the problem?? In order to help and trouble shoot you'll have post details about the problem.
What rom are you using, where is the file being located, are you getting a white screen, black screen, it boots but is distorted, kicked your dog and stole your car??
Any info will help.
I use:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003381
That ROM version
I flashed it using clockwordmod 2.5.0.7. Placed the ZIP on the SD card (root of the SD card) and flashed it.
the reboot and still getting the normal boot screen.... So no error but also no new boot screen
and my dog drove the car in to the bush.... hehehe
Post up the zip file you have and i'll take a look at it, it's more than likely something simple.
Thanks that you are willing to help me!
I am a realy noob at this so probely you will be laughing but here it is:

Your welcome, we all have to start somewhere.
I'm still a noob myself but have made plenty of bootscreens so have a fair idea.
Looking at the rom your using, the boot-animation should pushed/flashed to system/media in a .gif format as it's an eclair (2.1) based rom.
I'll download the boot-animation now and report back shortly.
Edit: the reason your were failing is because you were trying to push a png animation instead of a gif animation. I've turned the images into a gif and changed the evo information on the images to say hero instead.

I'm running floyo(2.2) at the minute so i cant test it, heres a zip file to flash. If the flash fails it probably needs re-signing(my sign tool is broken atm), so you can either re-sign it, adb push or copy and paste it with root explorer or something.
hope this helps.

Ah I wasn't aware it had to be gif, I'm so used to fannying around with my Galaxy S I assumed it would be .png
I'll give it a try when the sprog has gone to bed, it's not really my cup of tea, but I'm using my hero to experiment with stuff

You are the man!!!! I real, REAL appreciate this, will try this NOW!
YES! it's working! wwwweeeeehhiiieee!!!!
thanks man! But it keeps looping it's but that isn't a big deal it's a little weird. Can't you make the animation like 60 seconds(that's how long it takes for the boot screen to go away)
Glad it works.
i know why its looping, i put the gif into an old bootscreen zip, its using the instructions from that, ill sort when i get a chance.
