Where does nandroid backup goes? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

where does all the back ups{ie roms} which we do with nandroid do goes?
i mean does it get stored on memory card or on internal memory..
what happens if i'll format my memory card, does all that backup will get vanished

Nandroid is saved to the sd. If you format the card for any reason save data to the pc first then restore to sd.

thanks mate

Sorry Noob here as well. Where in the root folder could I find the Nand backups? I know I have about 4 of them and I couldnt find anything wit the BDS file name...

I have a nandroid folder at the root of my SD card w/ the backups in it.

[Q] Copying A2SD partition to a new microSD card

I just bought a new class 6 microSD card to replace the class 2 card currently in my phone and I'm wondering what the easiest way to copy the data from the existing card to the new one.
Would the following be the easiest steps?
1) Do a nandroid backup of the phone
2) Copy the contents of the FAT partition to a PC using USB mount
3) Turn off the phone and replace the microSD card with the new one
4) Partition the new card for A2SD using recovery
5) Copy the contents of the FAT partition from the PC to the card using USB mount
6) Do a nandroid restore
Any other ways to do it?
Backup the fat part.
nadroid +ext backup
replace card
format new card
nand +ext restore
profit???
In none of your steps did you mention anything about backing up the ext partition. If you don't need that just copy and paste.
Doesn't nandroid automatically backup the ext partition when used from recovery?
No.
10char
There are several possible loopholes, so let me clarify a couple of things.
When you backup nand+ext, the backup goes to FAT32 partition of the SD. So you need to:
backup nand+ext
mount SD
copy everything from FAT32 to PC
unmount SD
remove old card
insert new card
partition it
mount SD
copy everything from PC to FAT32
restore nand+ext
Now, it might be faster copying the card using card reader, but here's the catch - unless you have Linux anywhere on the computer, the card won't be readable, Windows can't read multi-partition SD cards.

i am using 4ext touch recovery.
My doubt is that will recovery will do backup of ext4 partition also along with fat32? or i need to use separate app to backup data n app in ext4 ?

works perfectly
yest changed microSD from 4GB sandiskclass4 to 16 GB sandisk mobile ultra class 6!!!

Edited:
This method is causing FCs and restarts and insufficient storage error . Check the link.
I don't think its a rt wy for ICS beta ROM at least for me.
While swapping cards better method is(atleast for ROMs which are not stable)
1) backup the apps (apk), app data, sms, call log and other settings using my backup pro or some other good app.
2) Save it to ur PC
3) Then do a complete wipe (factory reset) and install ROM.
4) Copy the restore data form PC to microSD, do a restore using the app which was used for backup.

CM7 internal install and restoring saved games...

After toying around with CM7 via sd card for a week or so, I decided to take the plunge and install it onto internal memory. Prior to doing this, I performed a Nandroid backup via CWM and saved that file onto the sd card and my computer for safe keeping.
Once the install of CM7 to the internal memory was complete and my apps were restored, I was wondering if there's a way to restore my game saves from my cwm/nandroid backup file? Is this possible or should I have done something different prior to nuking the sd card install?
My world isn't lost since I could start each game anew, but it would be nice to continue at a saved spot...
Any input would be helpful.
Thanks!

[Q] Nandroid Backup

I did a backup in nandroid. It said no sufficient space in Sd card, external sd not found and then backup completed, generating md5. later I found 6 files in backup folder in internal sd card. Again I did a nandroid backup, this time backup to internal sd card. same messages. Later I found the backup (6 files)in external sd card. both cards got more than 8gb. Now my question is whether these back up are reliable. In case of emergency can I restore this backup?

My backup files is 1.2 Gig. I dont think you had a complete backup. If you are running on ics dont use nandroid, only use nandroid if you are on safe kernel, but still i dont use nandroid myself even on safe kernel. Do it at your own risk.

I wonder what alternatives are available? All I could find is The Infuse Toolkit. Although I have no idea whether is any good or how do you install it and use it :silly:

question about backups

So, I've gotten good about making backups of everything before flashing another ROM. My question is, where can I access the backups made in CWM recovery so that I can transfer them to my computer in case I need them later?
Inside the clockwork mod folder on your phone.

Personally, I gotta seriously recommend saving your backups to your EXTERNAL SD card. One of our main fixes it to wipe and start over...doing it that way you'll lose whatever is on the phone's internal SD. I went out of my way just to free up 1.6gb of external sd space just for that very reason....1.6 is a lot when you have about 14-15gigs of music and not much more than some apps...got lucky and found some old TB folders .
//Sideloadable backup and recovery would be the shiznizzle.

You're right! I finally found the clockworkmod folder. I didn't realize when I flashed one of the new ROMs that it moved my stuff to /sdcard/0 and found it in there. Moved my backups to my external SD so now I'm golden. Thanks!
I keep a copy of my backups on my PC as well. If my SD card goes bad, I can copy the backups to a new SD card and restore as required.
Always backup to external and keep on hard drive!

JB doesn't support move-to-SD. You can only use the internal as main storage

It's not about that. I just rooted and I think CWM saved backup on internal sdcard.
Can I make the phone use my external sdcard? Or delete the internal sdcard altogether?
Edit: I am afraid to change the rom because I cant find the place CWM backuped.
If you boot into CWM and choose backup and restore and then Restore you will find your backup.
Most of the time the backups are stored in SDcard/CWM/Backups

In CWM you can chose where it will store backup files. You can choice between backup on internal or external (marked as sdcard1) storage.
Backup and backup to external SD card (atleast on my Samsung Galaxy S+)
