Skype for Verizon phones: APK request and discussion - G1 Apps and Games

Can someone please post up the APK to see if it's going to work on other carriers!?
Thanks
It's been a little over a month since Verizon announced it would unleash the VoIP hounds on select smartphones, an interesting move give AT&T's wrangling with the FCC over Google Voice and begrudging approval of Skype over 3G. Early this morning the Skype Mobile app hit the Android Marketplace for Verizon devices (and only Verizon devices), and while it does work on 3G, it curiously doesn't work on WiFi -- at all. Click on through for some screenshots and our impressions.

I'd love this! Even if only the text chatting works, as text chat was very unstable/buggy/slow on the older skype App.

This Skype app is tied to Verizon... I've tried it... got the app from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=652232

Line2

I am using the new Android version of Line2, the VoIP product for making calls over a Wifi connection from Toktumi. It was released yesterday. I have Attn1's Froyo 2.2 FR008 with a rooted Aria.
The Aria is not specifically supported. However, the sound is good on my end but some people I called noted static.
Once the program is started, it runs in the background and you cannot "exit" the application short of force closing it. (The "menu" button which in many apps points to an "exit" function, does not provide one). Not a big deal.
If you have WiFI access and need to cut back on your phone minutes, it might be worth trying for about $10 a month.
Can you please upload the apk!
Thanks in advance!!!

The Line2 app is available in the Android Market: search for "Line2" or available to download here: http://www.line2.com/download_android.html
Thanks!
Thanks for starting this thread! I'm the developer of the Line2 for Android and would love to hear feedback good or bad.
As for which phones are supported, we were very conservative with our list to include phones we've tested heavily. We have other phones that work well but haven't received the amount of testing we like.
One particular reason we're hesitant to just certify all phones is that we have found some hardware related issues on some devices such as the Evo.

Hi, sorry, but the application is not available in the Android market outside of the US and Canada. You need a US/Canada credit card to activate the paid service.

It's been free for a LONG time…only when it first came out did it cost money…so, hopefully someone will upload the FREE apk on here
I can't post the link b/c I am a new member but if you search the market for Line2, it is free
I got a Pixel Qi 3G Adam tablet from Notion Ink a few weeks back and am unable to get Line2 to work over the 3G connection. It appears that 3G VoIP options are disabled by default and the Dialing tab appears to be missing. Wi-Fi calling works, and I can sign into my account over 3G, but I can not make or receive 3G calls. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I am using a G2 on T-Mobile and have experienced the exact same issue... no 3G/Cellular calling. I too am missing the Dialing tab in the settings so there is no way to tell Line2 to make or receive call. I have been around and around with Customer care but to no avail.

Anyone got NFL Mobile working on Verizon Xoom?

It's crap that Verizon doesn't support the Verizon Xoom like they should.
Like the title says, has anyone found a way to get the Verizon NFL Mobile app to work on the Xoom? I don't have a Verizon cell phone to pull the apk off of.
Thanks.
I made a post earlier about it here. The ticket to go ap is there but it doesnt let you sign in

Yeah, I saw that but its a different app.
This is the Verizon NFL Mobile app Here.
I don't have DirecTV, I have FIOS, but thanks anyway.
I replied to a post about this about a week ago. This is one of the best apps on my android and one of the reasons I got the xoom. If someone could get ahold of the course I'd love to take a crack at making it compatible. I got it running from an apk someone posted on this forum but it gives me a message on startup saying this device is not supported. I feel like now that the season is around the corner there is going to be more pressure on the nfl to get it done, if they aren't working on it already.
Yeah I mean in not on verizon and I don't have verizon where I live but i really never thought about it till now by but I think they do it on verizon somewhere.

Visual Voicemail

Has anybody seen visual voicemial for this phone?
If yes, please leave a description on how to access it.
I can't believe this phone wouldn't have it.
AT&T
AT&T has yet to support visual voicemail on WP.

wspaw is correct; AT&T hasn't create support for this on Windows Phone. (AT&T documented what is supported on their Support page - sorry, I can't post links right now...new member).
However, if you really need it, there are some third-party providers and apps out there that perform this same function. One for instance has a free (lite) version: MagikMail available on the Marketplace.

Just checking to make sure I understand. By 'Visual Voicemail', do you mean the ability to have a text version of the voicemail sent to you via Messaging?
If so, I have this capability now through Rogers here in Canada. It's an option you request when you sign up for service.

I've never had the option, but, yes, I believe that is the concept.

Maybe talk to AT&T. I got it as part of the 'extended voicemail' package with Rogers.
We'll hear about it.

I haven't, but, many others have. One, most or all of the WP blogs will post about this the minute AT&T begins supporting it.
I posted about it in the dev section

I've always known "Visual Voicemail" as the ability to listen to messages by clicking on them in a list on your phone (almost like songs). It's nice cause you can see all your messages and you never have to call the voicemail service. I had it on my iPhone (telus includes it with most smartphone plans) but I'm not sure how to set it up on WP7.

Not sure if that's sarcasm or an attempted flame/trolling, but your post isn't very useful.
Last I was informed Google voice doesn't support mms. This message showed up as an actual mms, not an email, but sent from an email address. It was accompanied by an actual email to my Gmail account, but they both had the picture. I've never received an mms to my Google voice before, and they haven't made any announcement anywhere I can find saying its working, so what gives?

It was announced a lil while ago but it was only working for sprint users at the time. Now they just need short code support outside of google.

I'm an att user. The message came from a sprint user who doesn't use Google voice though.

It has been working for any Sprint user that sends an MMS to a Google Voice number since October. The Sprint user doesn't need to be using Google Voice for it to work.
Also, I'm getting MMS's from Virgin Mobile (which uses Sprint's network) and T-Mobile users as well but they haven't said anything official about it AFAIK. AT&T still doesn't work at all.

Google announced Oct 14 that GV users would be able to receive mms from Sprint users.
googlevoiceblog blogspot com/2011/10/first-steps-towards-mms-support.html
I got an mms from my brother last week and was shocked until I remembered he is on Sprint.
Why is this MMS thing so hard to do? I remember when Apple was going through this with the iPhone a few years back. Was very weird then as now.
Google can't figure out how to send a picture along with the other data?
I really hope they get this working. My phone has trouble recieving MMS messages from iPhone users (my whole family but me), and this would provide a great way to recieve the pictures.
