Apps blocked at school! - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I knew bit torrent and Steam were blocked, but today I found out that Android app downloads are also blocked! Does anyone know how to get around this?

That's the problem. They have stuff like that blocked on wifi. So you'd need to use data.

Sadly I do not have data.

Damn... what were you expecting? A "hack" by a vpn workaround or something?
A way to change the ports of the connecting apps to the internet?

You need to set up a VPN on the outside and connect to it.
If they block typical VPN ports, then you need to configure your VPN on a non-standard port.

Connectiong to school's wireless network

in order for my fuze to connect to my school's wireless network, i need to download their recommended persistent agent and anti-virus. can i do that even though the software is intended for PCs? or should i just suck it up and use the intermittent 3g network?
thanx

Depends on the implementation, you can probably connect to it but you might need additional software (I think meetinghouse make something) and based on what you say it sounds like they could implement NAC which could make it quite difficult to connect.

It depends how it's implemented, there is probably a certificate or something you might need in their download

Superuser App

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828
Why isn't this present in any of our roms?
Because it was posted yesterday?

not that app in particular, the superuser app in general. It's present in my friends G1 rooted roms, and I think that's why a few of the programs I want to use don't work and say I don't have root.

Oh okay. It was in myn's up until his most recent release... I'm not sure why it isn't anymore.
it has been in several releases in the past but has never worked on the vogue. I removed it from my builds because, if it dont work, why not remove if to save some space.
I gave this new SuperUser 2.1 a try using RogueTools as the test as it requires SU.
In any case. It didn't notifiy me that RogueTools was requsting su however it did halt and restrict RogueTools from changing both the frequency and lcd density.
YMMV.

lol, I'm still trying to figure out why the two tethering apps don't work and why bluetooth file transfer doesn't work. Both say I do'nt have root. Doesn't matter much now though, seeing as i'm upgrading soon.

[GUIDE] How to Get Free Wifi Tether on Droid Bionic!

So, here's a way you can get FREE wifi tethering/mobile hotspot on your Droid Bionic so you don't have to pay Verizon twice for the same internet you are already paying for. I don't know why Verizon would block this feature especially when you consider that there's a 2GB cap on your mobile internet usage anyways.
<MOD EDIT>
We don't have a 2GB cap. I've been over 2GB's a month for almost a year without any issues.
we don't?

We don't? I thought we did, that's good news for me.
Two gig limit is for anyone that was not grandfatherd in. Data plans now have limits and different caps.
oh

If you feel paranoid, you could do this:
<MOD EDIT>
I am grandfathered in, Verizon throttles you once you reach 5gigs while on 3G, but they haven't been able to throttle 4G still, enjoy it while it lasts, I am at >3 gigs so far this month, and that is with no tethering!
im trying to do this but i have windows 7. for some reason the usb is not recognized by my comp... also do u have the latest readiocomm for me it says that mine is 2 month old

Yeah it blocks all Google ads in search results. Probably shopping too. I can't even view eBay images on my phone if ad blocking is enabled.
