 Android 2.0.1 works slow on Diamond - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi everyone,
Sorry if this is maybe a known topic but i recently installed Android on my Htc Diamond (stored in internal storage, booting from WinMo 6.1 with haret.exe) and it worked pretty fine, excepting the fact that it is really not fluent...
So i am wondering why it is running that slow (ok I know this phone has not been made for Android)but as an example, a friend has the Htc Tattoo (same Cpu as the Diamond, Qualcomm 528 mhz, but different screen definition) and Android runs so smooth on it.
So why is it that slow on the Diamond? Because of the higher screen resolution? Or maybe the fact that Android is stored on internal storage?
Any idea is welcomed =)
Thanks,
Damien

Check the XDANDROID post, a new version was released yesterday and fix this issue

its not only the matter of the processor or screen resolution but also when the android runs.. currently we port android in external memory ^_^|

does WIngs have a hardware Keyboard Backlight?

[email protected]
i see that a S710 (Vox) have an hardware keyboard backlight. my Wings has not. is that true or only a mailfunction of my wings?
the numeric pad has an backlight on the wings..
BG Joy
The wings also has a keyboard backlight, however if you have the 'Light sensor' enabled, it will not always be on. After disabling this light sensor my keyboard backlight is now always on when I slide it open.

The option is in Power Management.
compliment! Thank you for your assistance I was completly confused I should make a proposal for the first smartphones in our office. i try at the Moment from HTC the S710 and S730.
and i think S710 is much better, we dont need UMTS / 3G for email push, the S710 is smaller, nicer, cheaper and the keyboard light lights better
and of all: S730 don´t have GPS, so there is no advantage at all.
More ram and a much better processor doesnt count?
As the s730 has the RAM issue - (same free RAM as 710) and the processor is underpowered (some guys also respond faster sw reaction time on s710) - seems that you could not count it :-(.
thats right, s710 feel a little bit faster. Test with 2 hardreseted devices without software, as example switching between landscape mode if you open the external keyboard. and RAM:
the most of our users use from a smartphone only for email push services. (sometimes a dictionary and a password safe)
what do you mean the processor is underpowered?
did u hear about the issue with the ATI graphics card internally built in but not supported with optimal drivers?

Yes, I know - that is why I mentioned it as underpowered. Well on http://htcclassaction.org/ pages using the expression: " This means our really expensive HTC phones (the TyTN II is about $700) are grossly underperforming." - same as s730. So, in the end the processor currently (with the last ROM version) has slower reaction time then s710 with 201 MHz core. Confirmed also by joy.d above.
Seems to me HTC scamp the job on s730 and it is a big pity. Wings was adept (with expected GPS) on very attractive smartphone. But the result - if you see here all these threads with so many particular problems (compare it with s710) - HTC made very bad work. Regrettably. Also check the company support responses on mentioned page - do you like it? Grrrr.
so do you think HTC will ever release some update which actually unleashes the full potential (RAM issue or 400MHZ core) of our HTC wings?
does the HTC wings also have the ATI graphics accelerator?
thanks for the expertise

Here is one big opportunity for HTC. If I understand well, s730 was not released for USA market yet. (http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1045). And it is very big market. We can hope, that HTC use the owner responses as back loop and now they are cooking new ROM to be more successful.
Concerning the driver missing: Again from mentioned page: "At the time of this writing, all HTC devices based on the MSM7200 and MSM7500 chipsets from Qualcomm seem to be affected." - so s730 too.

NewHTC 6.1 ROM : another reason to stop buying HTC !!!

Hello, I just would like to give a feedback of my usage of the last HTC 6.1 ROM.
The good thing :
- HTC Dialer is a lot faster than the 6.0 dialer (Thanks god !!!). But I guess I could use it with the old HTC 6.0 ROM.
The bad things :
- For IGO 8 to work I need to disable the "HTC Home", the "A-GPS" feature, and soft reset my device !!!! That means I won't use IGO 8 anymore, and that was my favorite GPS application.
- SPB Backup does not work anymore
- NO CAMERA IMPROVEMENT : still the same ****, slow and blurry.
- Performance issues with my SDHC card : all read/writes done from the Kaiser to the SDHC card are very very very slow.
- my device freezes all the time !!! I have to wait for 10-20 seconds before I can use it again. EDIT : since I stoped using "Quick Menu" this, problem disapeared ... So another usefull application I can't use anymore !
- performances are lower !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just talk about using the device, the way it displays the menus, the way applications come to the screen, it's really slower than the original HTC 6.0 ROM I had !!!!
So one more time, HTC shows how they deal with their customers :
"don't worry, we will make an update with performances improvements" ...
instead the performances have decreased, absolutly nothing have been improved, and I meet a lot of compatibility problems !!!!!!!
So think twice before installing this f***ing ROM !!!!
How can HTC put on the market such an unfinished/untested product ???!!!!
I just realized they just did the same with the Kaiser ...
Hi,downgrade to wm6 because my pda became crazy !
Same thing : my official microsd card with Nav and Go doesn't work, and the rest too.We must say a big thanks to HTC !!!
Please then, do not use the HTC Rom. We have a lot of Very Good Chefs that will make your problems go away. (If you ask them nicely0

Hi,
Did you pull off the microsd before upgrading ?(perhaps the upgrade process
corrupted the card)
Perhaps you could try (trial period) pocket mechanics pro(from wizzcode)
to reformat your sd+scandisk , it is a very reliable soft.
I had a worry to upgrade the official rom with vista, so i had to make the upgrade with a winxp desktop.
For time being, i found an improvement in the sound volume(phone usage)
and my bluetooth earpiece(nearly inaudible before).
Some softs are faster when launching(P.M.Pro for example) and sprite backup
(i upgraded from the light edition to the full one 6.22) works well under wm6.1.
But for the rotation screen when sliding the keyboard, i didnt notice any
progress.(i dont watch movies/videos on my kaiser, so unable to tell if it is better)
The only bad and good thing when upgrading:
i wasnt able to restore all my softs with my backup(some registry bugs)
so i had to reinstall all (tomtom6, sprite,netfront,pocket informant,etc)
boring but it has the advantage to start from fresh install.
One problem, windows mobile center(under vista) has some difficulties to
synchronize my kaiser.(i had to do some "menage" in my outlook 2002 appointments).
regards from France

I think that we must all realize that in this day and age of " give me more now" software development we have seen the last, long ago, of the finished, polished , stable software release. Look at Vista and Leopard and the such. Both operating systems were beseiged by bugs and incompatabilities. Vista is getting better but still crap.
We are going to have to get used to getting Beta versions of everything. Yes, HTC makes the bulk of their money off of hardware. As unacceptable as it might seem they are not going to spend millions in R and D and beta testing on upgrades they give away for free. Perhaps if we were willing to pay $100 or $200 or so for a software upgrade, like Vista or Leopard we would get a better finished product, or not. Everyone still got a beta of Vista.
My point is , this is it . We wanted it now. We wanted it free. We got the Beta. We tested it , it sucks ,give them the feed back and push for patches. Unacceptable ? Yes but, like the current gas prices, it is the reality of the situation.
Yes,i remove each time sim card and memory card before flashing.I think i'm not alone to have problems with french update ( cf french forum ) .I've downgraded with wm6 and everything works fine again .
reading through the frustrating experiences makes me feel better. so i am no alone. how absolutely unprofessional of htc. i hope palm comes out with its new OS quickly. my windows mobile adventure is eating up my time.
how can i downgrade again?
i need the original 6.0 Ger rom
Hi,
Sorry for the slight variation on topic, but I just logged into my HTC E-club and could not find the WM6.1 Update, am I looking in the wrong place?
Thanks.
Same issues for me as you folks. I dumped it like the smelly crap it is and reloaded with dutty's hybrid. This one I'm diggin'.Very stable, awesome actually.

it seems most of your issues are compatibility with applications. shouldn't you be complaining to the developers about these? I'm sure they will fix those up to make them run smoothly with 6.1, I don't think it's fair to blame HTC for application incompatibility with a *new* OS.
maybe do an HR and see if you still have issues [except the driver issue because we all know they didn't fix that]
sometimes it's good to wait for apps/devs to catch up before updating to ensure that your apps a working well with your new OS.
just my 2 cents. peace
Guys, a little help please...
I need to downgrade to WM6.0.
Where can I get the official Portuguese ROM for KAISER???
Thanks in advance
here's a fix for the freezes:

I disagree with what you say. Most of the Windows Mobile 5.0 applications were working on the WM 6.0. I never loosed so many applications (and I didn't try all of them yet) with an update which is not supposed to be a major update (6.0 to 6.1).
My biggest issue is the IGO 8 application which does not work because of an HTC application : HTC Home.
So now, if I want to run IGO 8, I must disable some tabs of HTC Home (contacts, weather, music ...) which were essential to me.
When I bought my Kaiser, I also bought HTC home which I cannot use now.
I also noticed that since I installed 6.1, HTC home does slow down my device and is responsible for some freezes of it. If I remove HTC home from the today screen, no freezes !
So this is definitly an HTC problem !
Firstly, this is not an HTC problem. It is a Windows Mobile (Microsoft) problem.
Every device is different.
What works well on mine, might not work on yours for obvious reasons.
Folks are quick to criticise HTC because they don't know any better or don't understand the problem.
Why "upgrade" to wm 6.1? wm 6.0 works perfectly well.
And btw, Vista is NOT crap. I have been using Vista Business for over a year now without problems. You really just need to figure things out.
Don't fix it if it aint broke.
Guys thanks a lot!! I intended to upgrade to the official ROM, but now I stay with Dutty's.
It saves me a lot of time.

1) "HTC Home" IS an HTC product... And it is the source of a lot of problems in the 6.1 ROM (just read what I wrote).
2) Why upgrading to 6.1 : because HTC said the performances will be increased. And the performances where an issue in 6.0 (and still are in 6.1).
I waited for an upgrade, seems like I got an downgrade. Device with this big price tag should perform well out of the box.
This is what i think.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395110
allright... I've done downgrading to latest wwe 6.0.
6.1 is a real crap- do not let some ppl fool You- there is no speed gain at all.
what more, it's slower than ever.
simple tests: I have opened a web page in opera mini on both 6.0 (stock t-mob and latest wwe) and 6.1 (stock wwe, plk and leo's diamond v2) and guess what- on 6.0 scrolling is smooth on 6.1 visible screen tearing occurs.
second test was 3 minutes of doom2 e1m1- again, visible and annoying screen tearing on 6.1. no fps gained at all.
the other thing is that 6.1 doesn't support card export II and have many other more or less irritating bugs.
I am seriously considering swapping my Vario III for N95 8GB, but still hesitating. with tweaked 6.0 it is a quite nice machine, qwerty keyboard is a big + aswell... I dunno. I shall see...
anyway- br and good luck to all with their devices.
bro
Just chiming in with my $0.02 worth, that the 6.1 upgrade works fine for me. I'm only running very minimal 3rd party apps (aside from TomTom), so compatibility hasn't been a problem for me.
The RF quality of the phone seems much-improved, I don't notice (without benchmarking tools) a big perceptible speed difference from a user's point of view.

Worth getting Kaiser ?

Hi
I'm upgrading my PDA from BlueAngel to something newer.
I'm choosing between Eten M800 and HTC Kaiser.
Kaiser seems to be preferred choice right now, but I'm scared by the "video performance" issue.
There seems to be a lot of discussion on the web about "missing driver" and so on.
Can anybody tell me if it's true ?
Especially with current WM6.1 ROMS... are there problems with display performance ?
I've searched XDA forum and found some info about fixing laggy PIE scrolling etc.
But I wanted to know from someone who used an Intel PXA or Samsung SC device and can compare it to Kaiser.
Cheers
depends what your usage is for the device.this is a business related phone so really people shouldn't be complaining about the issue if they got it outside of business purposes since it does well for everything except video related performance such as playback, gaming and enhanced plugins for the today screen such as manila with slow frames per second.
The driver issue is a bit overexaggerated on here. I can play movies and games perfectly. Would the drivers be a nice to have? Definitely. A must? Not really (for me at least).
same goes for me,i knew what i was getting before i got my tilt in december and this driver issue has been going prior before and i still use my device on a frequent basis daily as its "intended" to be
best phone i ever had! go get it
i agree, my herme's keyboard starting having keys popping out and i was available to upgrade anyways and basically its the same thing except it has more memory and the sliding mechanism can tilt

Games not working(6.5 Energy ROM 3.0) - rom issue, resolutions issue, or fone issue?

Hello there,
I wonder if you can help me, I have up until now been the user of a HP 614c (running windows mobile 6.5 - used various builds) but recently I have upgraded and got myself a HTC touch pro/ Raphael which I straight away updated to the energy ROM 3.0 (windows 6.5) from the ROM development section, however, for some reason I am finding alot of the games for windows CE that I had working on my HP 614c are not working on the HTC touch pro ..
I find that on starting the game the screen goes blank and sometimes you can hear the music and nothing else?
Is this an issue with compatibilty with the phone, or the rom, is it because of the g sensor? I have no idea ... some of the games work perfectly well but a vast majority of them just blank out which is a shame .
I have looked at all settings and been tinkering for ages and still come to no conclusion, I find it strange as the HTC touch pro has the equivalent specs to the HP 614c but with extra capability ? and the windows 6.5 software I have installed have stemmed from the same pre release builds ??
Any one have any ideas?
Wouldnt normally bother me so much,
but my much loved 'arcade games for adults' didnt run which was the last straw
I am not sure if I can live with out b00by breakout etc hehehe
You can try it...
you are the man! they all work fine now
just out of interest what does that cab file do exactly? wat does it change to enable this to now work ?
I have noticed that there is a clash with the HTC touch flo 3d software tho, but if u take that off the today menu it runs perfectly ... which it didnt do before installign the fix

installed froyo, lots of problems

Help please. Phone is freezing/crashing, location awareness never works, apps crashing, marketplace crashes immediately after boot. I did VZW data tech support a few years back but I'm fairly new to Android and custom phone ROMs. Other than the apps that crash (market, camera crash consistently) and it being a little sluggish I really like it. Even with the whole phone crashing it's only a slightly worse experience overall than the WinMo 6.0 it came with xD Lack of location awareness is the most distressing problem.
I have a KAIS100 HTC 8925 P/N: 99HCY090-00
I installed Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo 2.2 [Deodexed] [RLS12] from microSD
with kaisimg-panel2-320-tilt-froyo-26-07-10.nbh which I set to froyo with NBH Editor
which I installed from microSD using SPL-3.56.Hard2
with radio KAIS_RADIO_ONLY_1.71.09.01.nbh
I had WinMo 6.1 installed previously.
There were some suggestions to use Donut but I really wanted some of the 2.2 features and other people seem to report it working a lot better than what I've experienced. I'll probably try a different radio in a few minutes but all suggestions and help are appreciated.
So I didn't get around to updating the radio but it hasn't crashed in a day now and the location started working randomly, with extreme accuracy, 20 minutes into a 35 minute driving trip. Tried it again this morning and it didn't work anymore.
Could anyone point me towards information about how Android does it's location awareness especially relating to how it is different from the way it's done for google maps on WinMo? I'm wondering if maybe android just refuses to give me any location at all if it can't get a much more accurate reading and if there is a way I can adjust that setting. I don't think my phone and/or service area can give me much better accuracy than 500 meters.
You're a pioneer into the unknown. I am thinking about flashing my htc 8925 with this same build but I was waiting to see the result. I have the polymod build on it now, flashed to nand. Everything works but the camera. Do your camera work with this build? I will flash mine and report my findings.
Location awareness uses both Cell tower and Wifi for best result from my Tilt. Plus I have not gotten a single problem with the Incubus Mod. All works well, or too well. Tweaked the CPU to 520Mhz as stated.
Only thing I advise do not use is Animated Background will Slow Boot up and sometime may Hang and Restart it self. But other than Background Animations, everything work Spectacular.
I install OS to Nand, and Program Memory to Ext2.
I flashed (to nand, nand) the “Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo 2.2 [Deodexed] [RLS12] [7/26/10] Combined All Languages” to my kaiser 8925 hardspl 3.29, radio version: 1.71.09.01, and so far everything runs well. I used the 520 clock settings. The only problem so far is my copilot will not load. It gives the “error invalid library copilot cannot be loaded by the system.” I guess this has something to do with the “deodexed” build. Better terminal also crashed. Overall, I think those are minor issues.
Copilot version 8.2.0.218 works with this build.
maybe my phone is just broken... the hardSPL version shouldn't make any difference once the OS is up and running, should it?

there are nothing to do with hardSPL. Have you try different Mods to see if other works or not?
