gmail attach launches gallery? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I would like to attach other files in outgoing emails besides images, but every time I try to attach in the gmail client, the gallery app comes up, only allowing me to select images. is there a way to attach other files I have stored on my sd card in outgoing gmail emails from my nexus one?
edit: I realize now that I can use my file browser astro to attach files. can I use my gmail client to do the same without going into astro first?

I'd like that too. I was in an e-mail conversation the other day and wanted to send a .pdf file to that person in my reply. Couldn't do it and had to send via astro file manager which creates a new conversation thread in gmail. Not disastrous but not ideal.

I have OI File manager from the market and when I attatch in gmail it gives me an option to pick gallery or that particular file manager (not astro, I find it wierd) Either way. That one works!

this is exactly what I was looking for, thank you!

I'm still a little curious why astro isn't available as an option though.

great gMail attachment saver

One huge flaw of the gmail app is the option to save attachments.
Well I accidently came across this simple and great free app...
Blackmoon Attachsave Lite
I've been able to save my PDF attached files from work, on to my SD card, with no issues
And it blends in with the gmail app. Click on preview attachment and it'll pop-up asking to open with the default viewer or save to SD card.
And very small file size for the install
another gripe: can't copy text from the email using gmail app.
You can also try GSaver to save or open your gmail attachment on Android.
just search GSaver to find it out. It's completely free

then click Respond Inline to get at the text

[Q] How to save/download pics from email/web

I realize I'll probably get yelled at because the answer is probably somewhere painfully obvious, although I've searched and haven't found anything... How exactly do you save/downloads pictures from the browser or email, etc to your phone? I tried to do a long press and wait for the option to come up, but just isn't happening for me.
Please be nice, it's been a long day... :-/ lol
I struggled with this myself...
for the browser it is long press/hold and an option will come up, but if your at the mobile version of the website you wont be able to (except for some sites) if you switch to desktop view (full html) you will get the long press/hold options.
Email (gmail client) I have not been able to figure it out not sure if there is a way to, except for clicking the attachment and let it open on your phone then save as within the program that opened the attachment or picture, or open gmail in the browser
hope this helps a little, If someone else knows a way please shed some light
I'm trying out 2.2 and have the default email client (not Gmail) set up to sync with an exchange server. I can't open jpg files sent as attachments. I can open other formats (pdf, doc, etc).
I assume this is because the email client doesn't think there's an app set to default for jpg files, but Gallery and Astro both have viewers and open just fine when I click on a jpg file already on my device.
Does anyone know where/how I set the default jpg viewer in such a way that the email client recognizes it?
Thanks!

black moon doesn't seem to work with the default email app (not gmail). It's probably the apps problem. I don't see any way to preview on attachment. As I posted earlier,I only have this problem with jpegs. I can open other files attachments. The open/preview button just isn't there on the jpeg attachments. But thanks for the suggestions!
I was able to open email, pull down notification bar, tap down arrow of attachments, option to save or open attachment.

Gmail Attachments Not Working?

I was trying to send an email last night with an attached screen capture that I did on the NC but for some reason it doesn't work. When I add the attachment, it shows up in the gmail interface on the NC, and it sends, but when it arrives in the inbox, no attachment.
Anyone else have this issue. I tried to search but not results.
Just tested and it works fine on my NC (1.0.1 autonooter 12.18)
I have the same issue

Sent from my Nookie
It appears the issue is only with astro. Doing it from the gallery worked just fine
You can attach any file to an outgoing gmail message from Root Explorer. There's a market app called attach email too.
work around
I'm having the same issue attaching a screenshot. If I go through the Gmail app and attach the screenshot, the email is received, but no attachment. If I go through ES File Explore, navigate to the screenshot, long hold, choose share, gmail, it opens up Gmail app with attachment showing, but I get the same results. The email is sent, but no attachment.
This is what I noticed though:
Original screenshot is located here: /media/Screenshots/
If I copy/move it to: /sdcard/media/Screenshots/, I can attach/send/receive the screenshot in both ways that I mentioned above.
It's like the Gmail app can't get into the internal memory or something.
FYI - I created the folder Screenshots on /sdcard/media/

A simple task for a PDF

Ok, so I am applying to colleges and I was using my HD7. I got some stuff scanned and downloaded it to a PDF to my windows phone. I open my email to send it to the college push attach and the only thing I can attach are pictures? I don't get how a phone designed for business can't attach a PDF file to an E-Mail. Am I doing something wrong?
If you've downloaded them to your Windows Phone then they should show up within the Office App (although it can't open them directly, they should still show up there if you saved the PDF files properly... in order to attach them in an email, within the Office App swipe over until you get to the page labeled "locations" --- select "Phone" and then long press down on the document you need to send... Then simply select "Share" when the popup menu appears... Select your desired method of sharing (email in your case) and the document is now attached... I'm pretty sure you need to have the PDF file saved in the My Documents directory on your phone for this to work... Do some quick searching & I'm sure you'll find out how if you don't already know...
Cheers...

Any way to attach any type of file through the stock E-Mail app?

The file picker dialog the stock E-Mail app uses is different from the G-Mail one. The G-mail one defaults to only photos, videos, etc too.... but gives you the option of enabling other apps to hook into it (such as file managers) so I can attach any type of file from anywhere on my device.
.... the stock (and I assume made by HTC) E-Mail app for anything that is not a g-mail account.... does not. It only allows Photos, Videos, Documents, Etc. There is a "File" option if you scroll to the bottom..... but this is practically the same thing as the above options, as it only lists recent files (only types it understands) or files sorted by type, etc. It doesn't let me browse the file system.
Is there any way to either choose any file I want, or add a file manager to the list, without basically downloading a different e-mail app?
Download and install the stock Android (AOSP) email app from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1965468
