Live Wallpapers on leaked 2.1? - Droid Eris Themes and Apps

I know that we can't have live wallpapers and sense ui running at the same time. I'm also aware the we need root. But I just found out that if you install slide screen, you are promoted to choose which home app is default (sense, stock android home, and slide screen). If we choose the stock one, would it be possible to get live wallpapers working if the devs do some tinkering? Or do we still need the permissions only root can give us?

You still need root to install them. But you did find a nice way to disable Sense if you desire.

I still believe there is a way to do it, I just don't have the time to tinker. If you have an android programmer that wants to do it, have them contact me and I will drop the details, and the files needed to get it done.

That would be great, that's the only reason I wanted root.

Ha, thanks jadesdan. sorry jcase, but I don't know of any android programmers and I myself can't be of any use. Maybe someone who knows what to do will stumble across this thread and volunteer.

Open Home full feature 1.5 build

Hey guys,
Is anyone brave enough to test the full feature 1.5 build of Open Home Full? We know we can always find some brave ones here
It requires that you are running android 1.5 on your phone (aka Cupcake). This build has full supports of 1.5 widgets and also a good amount of stability and performance improvements.
We had not done a lot of testing on this build; also this build will expire in a month (5/30). If you want to test the latest and greatest, feel free to install and try this build.
*Remember safe mode is hold menu button when powering on*, if you see anything wrong, just enter safe mode and then uninstall it.
Do NOT install unless you are running android 1.5
Download the apk at
http://groups.google.com/group/openhome/files
I assume since I'm running the dudes build and it supports widgets it may work. I can always remove if necessary . This doesnt remove open home right? just a different version?
EDIT: it replaces the existing open home
Hmm, I was impressed with the demo of OpenHome when I downloaded it a couple days ago. I'll take a look.
downloading it now. I have just flashed the holiday cupcake build so I assume it'll work with this. I'll let you know.
So far so good. I am glad to have openhome back again in 1.5
I have added all widgets, and they all work as expected. Are some of these the 1.5 "stock" widgets? I assume so because i see 2 music widgets listed, one looks like your own and the other a stock one.
I'll let you know how it goes after some proper usage. great work so far though. thankyou.
oh, p.s .. Will this be a free upgrade for those who had previosly purchased open home full ?
Works well enough. I like it.
Normally use full edition but will keep this until it is updated.
Suggestion: How about that calendar widget from Haykuro's build so those with dude's builds can use it?
Using it. Works well so far. I'm an OH Full user too, will I have any problems going back to the market app when it gets updated/released?
Ps. Is there any way to add support for Jeff Sharky's weather widgets? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509729
Weather widgets ok here. Problem with battery percentage widget though

Hey guys i like the changes the menus are a little more intuitive now! Shame it doesn't seem to maintain your icons from older version, but weirdly kept my fonts theme etc - not sure if that qualigfies as a bug or not really
One problem i have found though is it seems to scrap folder icons the second you open bettercut again, not a huge problem but ....
BUGS!
I have almost 200 apps to SD so it's convenient to have my favorite "few" on the desktop. After I installed the new apk file... everything was GONE! Huge inconvenience! Then when I pull up the app menu I can watch them appear one after another like the app is doing a search for the installed apps. I also tried Picture Frame. It seems like it pulls up the Camera app, then the gallery. I selected my picture. Cropped it. Saved it. Then it went back to "select picture" again. Strange. Also... AnyCut Open Home Edition doesn't work. Definite bugs.
Other then that I love it. Thanks! Is this going to be in an update and when will it be available in Market? I purchased the full version months ago.

I don't think it has anything to do with bettercut because I don't have it installed and it still goes back to the default folder icons randomly, sometimes it comes back sometimes it doesn't.

Yea that kind of pissed me off when I realized it took all my stuff off the screen and the dock. It works fine besides these few issues though.

Hey quick question, is there any way to add a 3d effect on swipe? Like when you swipe to left or right screen, screen shrinks and rotates as a 3d cube. That will be awesome dude, you can name the app something different and charge for it again because I know damn well people will pay for it. I definitely will.

The reguar widget works for me, but not his. It isn't even displayed as an option.
Trying it out on my new Magic
But it's not 'open' in any sense...
Really dissapointed in losing all of my icons on all 7 screens. Glad that "real" widget support was actually added in. Almost went back to dxTop because of this. Please make the full version available on the market as an upgrade to the old full version. It would be nice to make it detect the old settigns and import them in.

Opps. You have to wipe now.
Just kidding. You deal with it the same way as if you would set the defaults as any other app. Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Home>Clear defaults.
Been using this app for a few days now.I havent ran into any problems with it pretty smooth.Only down side was losing my icons. But no biggie.

Live Wallpapers

OK going to bed, wanted to leave an update.
I have them not crashing. Im not saying I have them working, they are just not crashing the phone now.
jcase
jcase are you on rooted 2.1 or leak 2.1?
Both but wall papers im working on rooted.
What are you using to get them working launcher2?
http://androidmobileos.com/?p=12520
More coming later.
Can you make a update package so we can install this right from the recovery menu?
Binny,
hit me up on irc tonight, ill get you going.
No update.zip will be coming for this as far as I am concerned.
It will be part of a new rom, hopefully minus HTC addons.

jcase,
I have the 2.1 leak v2 and I've been tinkering with the live wallpaper issue. It seemed like I came really close, so I thought I'd share my findings and maybe an actual dev like yourself could use it in your endeavor.
First, I downloaded and installed the "LiveWallpapersPicker.apk" from this site:
favicon.greaky.com/files
Next, I downloaded and installed the "LiveWallpapers.apk" from this site:
megaupload.com/?d=RG6KFWTB
Finally, I installed Helix Launcher from the Market.
Everything seemed as if it was going to work. Long press on the home screen, choose wallpapers, then Live wallpapers, which brings me to the list of live wallpapers currently available. Then I hit a wall:
"The application Live Wallpaper Picker (process android.process.acore) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
Well, hope this helps. If you have any other ideas you'd like me to try, I'm up for it (as long as I don't brick my Eris of course )

We've decided that live wallpapers just won't work correctly on our phone... some of them that is.
We've had non-OpenGL-based live wallpapers working without a hitch for some time now. The OGL ones crash when the phone sleeps when not plugged in. This is something that will most likely need some rewriting of kernel/lib files in order to fix.
just checked the dates on this thread...retracting my post

Ok, from my small amount of understanding of programming, I take it that the non-OpenGL-based live wallpapers work basically because of the way the application is programmed. And that programming just won't mesh with our phones OS programming. Correct me if I am wrong.
Also, could you direct me to some of those live wallpapers? I'd like to check them out.
Again, if I can help in any way, be a guinea pig of sorts, just let me know.
Thanks helping me understand a little more. And I apologize if I sound completely uneducated about some of these topics, just trying to learn and help out if I can.

In another thread jcase did say that live wallpapers can work on 2.1 leak with a bit of tinkering. He has the files and such to help you out. So if you can contact him you should get all that you need to make them work.
Just tried this on my eris and got the same error.
We fixed openGL last night, check dev forum for patch.

live wallpaper

I bought one from the market, but I dont know if they work on the slide and if so, how do I apply
i dont think ther is a way to select live wallpapers i tried it the other day with a free one and it wouldnt let me select iton the n1 there is a tab that specifally lets you choose a live wallpaper. i think we will have to wait for a cooked rom or some one to pull a live wallpaper apk so that we can run them
I believe live wallpaper does NOT work on the slide.
no live wallpapers
I read somewhere that because this phone only has 600mhz the prosseser isnt fast enough to support it ... but for normal apps u can throw on whatever u want and the phone stays strong .......but i love this phone
Live wallpapers aren't compatible for this phone
Im so glad this phone DOES NOT support live wallpapers. No need for them

im pretty sure if the g1 can run live wallpaper the slide can it just hasn't been figured out yet this will likely come possible when root is established.
some of the live wallpapers were also running on the TP2 (dual boot with android).
if the moto cliq can run live wallpapers i think we can too heres a vid of the cliq keep in my i think its been sped up
http://www.droiddog.com/android-blog/2010/06/2-1-without-blur-hits-the-cliq/
the motorola droid came without the ability for live wallpapers but after their most recent update (two months ago, maybe one month??) they can now support it. doesn't that phone have a 528Mhz? I could be wrong but if that phone can run it I think this phone could too.
now that root has happened live wallpapers are possible. See the android development threads for that process.
If u rooted ur phone flash eugenes slidemeroot rom it has lwp feature in it.Download adw from market and you'll be able to use it on slide.
I'm 99.99% sure this will work but I can't test it myself cuz i'm on sprint. Also don't know for sure how you guys flash updates (too much going on) but if anyone wants to try this here is an update.zip to get live wallpapers on the slide. you will have to use a launcher to view them (such as adw launcher). If this works then I'll try to get them to work on sense.

haha, is this guy for real? there is no need for:
1. keyboards
2. touch screens
3. cameras
4. flashes
5. advanced os (osx-android-winmo)
6. bluetooth
7. wifi
8. gps
9. text message capabilities
10. need I go on...
its not that we need any of this on a "phone" its that we want it on our "phone"... Look at the first phones, they did nothing but make calls...
If you root your phone and put the legend rom on your phone youll have a faster os with live wallpaper... others will work with it using like adw, but I think the legend is smoother...
so i just tried to disable sense defaults
I set adwlauncher as home default and tried to apply a lwp but its a fail
this process worked on my magic with sense... so is it the new sense or something else in the stock ROM?

Stock ROM doesn't support them. You need a rooted build that has added in the support.

Live Wallpapers
I rooted my phone via Unrevoked 2, and running Liberated_Aria R006. I tried loading a live wallpaper, but I can not seem to find how to activate it. When I press menu then Wallpapers, Live wallpaper is not an option. Can I get a little help on where to go from here?
Thanks.
CM6 allows LWP. I don't remember Liberated allows that function since it bases on stock rom
You have to load the zip file from clockwork recovery.

Live Wallpapers
Thanks for all the help. I got it working.
I found this in one of the XDA forums archives, so I figured I would share it here again. I did the clean install option with Liberated-Aria R006, and no issues so far.
Here is the exact wording from the post by Bobj:
------------------------------------------------
6/28/10 - Updated to allow LWP in the Sense UI
* This assumes you have your phone rooted and have access to the Clockwork Mod to allow updating your phone with unsigned zip files *
1.) Put the file onto your SD Card in the root directory
2.) Access the Clockwork Mod
4.) install zip from sdcard (option 5)
5.) choose zip from sdcard (option 2)
6.) Click on the file you downloaded and put on your sdcard
6a.) If you run into an error when installing shut off your phone,, unplug it from the USB cable, then reboot it back into Clockwork Mod and start again from step 2
7.) Once done installing, go back one menu and reboot system
8.) Upon reboot you can now choose Live Wallpaper in the wallpaper options
*Issues*
The only issue that I know of at this time is you have to use the settings/personalize/lock screen wallpaper option in order to change the lockscreen wallpaper
If you have any issues let me know, I tested this on a fresh clean stock rom flash then updated to add in the LWP.
*Files*
Clean install of the LWP packages yyy.mediafire.xxx/?t5mjyjjgnjm
Select this if you want to install the LWP on a clean install or install without any LWP
Update install of the LWP packages yyy.mediafire.xxx/?jjowddzzmdw
Select this if you used the previous version with LauncherPro and Home Switcher. This will remove those packages and update to the Sense Enabled LWP.
--------------------------
Thanks again, and hope this helps.
(Due to that I am a new, please change the yyy to www, and xxx to com in the links.)
Thanks! Works great. Is there no way to use a LWP on the lockscreen though?

If you are using CM6, then whatever your wallpaper is is your lock screen. (sorry about the double is. 8th grade) If you are using liberated_aria, well my technical knowledge DOES know its bounds. Sorry.
I downloaded it, went into clockwork recovery and tried to install it from there and it didnt work. So i rebooted it and extracted the file, found the .apk, and installed it from there. It gives me the option of live wallpapers and lets me see the selection of live wallpapers, but everytime i try to set one of them, it force closes.
Any suggestions?

Honestly, it's not worth it. At all.
Reasons being, for this little Aria, it takes up an insane amount of battery. As much as the screen brightness when it's cranked all the way up. Also, in CM6, some of the touch screens (eg. Nexus LWP) aren't touch reactive, or at least do not respond quickly to it.
You can do it, but I'd advise just sticking with a regular background.

i agree. it works as says and installs easily. but most of the LWP on the market cost money and the ones that came stock with the install aren't worth having. the floating bubles and the pond with leaves were the only ones worth playing with. but i lost interest quickly. and reflashed a R04 rom and did a clean install of everything to get rid of it.
fun if you're easily amused

[Q] Theme layout

Hello guys,
ive been browsing the forum for a while now and been reading alot of guides, and i dont seem to understand how people have achieved to use themes where they have text icons for different apps at the bottom of the screen and such, and different slide options to unlocking the screen.
Im also unsure if this is done via root or not.
Thanks in advance
DHD FTW
I'm new to android also but I found this:
lifehacker.com/5627286/battle-of-the-android-home-screen-launchers-adw-vs-launcherpro-vs-helixlauncher
(copy and paste this link because XDA won't let me post links until my account if verified by a moderator)
This was helpful to me and may answer a few questions for you.
Launcher Pro lets you have a sliding dock if thats what youve seen. There is also a paid app that lets you copy custom icons for Launcher Pro your phone (i haven't tried it yet), but i guess all you need are text icons that have a symetrical background and then you will achieve a 'bar' accross the bottom that looks like one solid piece.
Like I said. I'm new to this too but after installing launcher pro and AWD launcher there seems to be a lot of answers to how people are achieving what you're seeing.
Furthermore, to use these launchers you don't have to flash anything. Just install like a regular app. You can then select which one you want to use when the phone boots. Or you can select from a pop up window when you press the 'Home' button.
I'm still trying to find out if I like Launcher Pro or AWD better....
Thank you so much this is exactly what I needed, I'm guessing if I was to install a custom Rom is just back up the paid version.
Thanks once again man
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
No problem dude, I'm just as new to this as you are...
As far as custom rom's are concerned you can back up the rom if you need to but I think most of the stock roms are are somewhere on this forum anyway if you need to return to stock after flashing a custom one.
I'm still trying to fugure out if I really need a custom rom.
The only thing I think I need is the overclock, which I could do just by flashing a custom kernel..
So far I think the only thing custom roms have that stock doesn't are customised standard apps preinstalled and they also include the overclock in the package. I can remove preinstalled apps with Titanium backup anyway so I'm left wondering what other benefits there are to custom roms.. Maybe someone here can answer this..
Finally.. here's a link to some terminology I found useful
wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Terminology
Also here's a link to the icon changer app website for launcher pro
launcherpro.droidicon.com/
Let me know if you go for the custom rom, I'm still thinking about it....
Thinking about the same thing. Probably I will wait until gingerbread gets the custom treatment
