Buying or bought a used nexus one? READ THIS - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If you are planning to or bought a used nexus one there are a few things you should get from the seller if you want to have a warranty.
original purchasers:
-Address
-Purchaser name
-Google order number
you might be able to get away with just the address and name but itd be best to have all. i just went through a hell of a time finding the original owner of mine so i could get it serviced.
*mods, if you could sticky this or paste it into a stickied thread it would help allot of future buyers

actually i was looking for this info. after you have the original owners name, address do you call htc to change it to your own info?

Shouldn't this be common sense when buying anything major (lot's of money invovled)?
I bought a PS3 last year from someone off Craigslist. I kept his cell number, got the original recepit, and his full name off the receipt. I even wrote down his licence plate number and the color, make and model of his car.
I was so paranoid because he sold me a flawless 2nd gen PS3 80GB, sealed KillZone2, and BNIB PS3 Sixaxis DualShock3 controller all for $250. This was when the PS3 was still $400 and price cuts and the slim were still a rumor. However, dude was rolling in a mid-late 2000 M5. So either he didn't care or he also stole the car LOL.

I have all of those but i can't get it serviced because i live in Europe. HTC screwed me over with this one.

yes you can call htc to change the info or just wait till you need it serviced and do it while you request warranty repair.
if you are in Europe cant you send it in for repair instead of a device swap?

Best Place To Buy A Touch Diamond

Hi,
This is my first post here, but the site is great and I've been coming back here for about 2 weeks while trying to decide if I should buy a diamond and I have to say the people, reviews and discussions have certainly swayed my choice into getting one. It was touch and go (pardon the pun) for a while after some initial bad reviews, but since the ROM update it seems everybody is a lot happier! I know it will take a bit of tweaking, but I'm a S/W engineer, so its nothing I'm afraid of, but it will be my first WM device, so I'm a little scared...
I nearly opted for the iPhone, but its a brick, if not a pretty cool device, but I want something that I can put in my pocket and use as a normal phone... I have an iPod for music and videos, a phone is a phone (but the GPS rocks)
Anyway, I digress, I do have only 2 questions and the first one is pretty redundant from reading this forum, but here goes:
I saw a Touch Diamond for sale on eBay and the guy selling it said that he was selling it because he was disappointed because when he came to use the GPS it was a lie and that he needed an extra component and had to carry something else around? Whats all this about. I did freak a little when I read in all the spec sheets that it was GPS "READY"... what does READY mean? I assume it comes with it all from reading the reviews.
Second question, since my mind is pretty made up and I will be getting one, where is the best place to buy one (for the UK, and UK spec) I'm not looking for cheapness, as i know they are knew and average is around £450ish (inc VAT and Delivery) but dunno where to get one from (Not eBay anyway) any advice on the best online shop, or if anybody knows of any shops that sell them (in Manchester) that would be great.
Thanks for any help in advance!
DG
Plenty of places in the UK to buy them from, if you had done a search you would have found a thread that listed all the places in UK that are selling them and they are uk spec.
But for you ill name a few:
www.expansys.com now have the official uk spec Diamonds
www.clove.co.uk
www.play.com
www.totalpda.co.uk
www.powerupmobile.com
www.htcdirect.co.uk
those are your best bets...think Expansys is based in Manchester but dont know if they allow you to go there and pick up the phone...best to ring them i suppose.
I would recommend Play.com. Never had any problems with them and at the moment it's only £399.99 with free delivery. Others sell it for about £435 or £440.
Yeah, sorry, should have done a search, but battery was dying on the laptop and no plug in sight!
Anyway, thanks for the links guys. I did heard that expansys were selling non official versions and thats one reason I asked, I have used them before but for nothing really as expensive as this.
Thats really cheap for Play, I may used them since I have an account with them...somewhere!
Now I will have the agonising wait and ensuing dissapointment that when I wake up the postman hasn't brought it its going to be a LONG week!

Woah. If they don't have some super secret locking technology we've not seen until now, that could be a SERIOUSLY GOOD bargain....

The general consensus is that this is only if you're a business customer buying an additional handset for your account.
Surely if most places are selling it for £400+ Vodafone won't be giving them away with no contract?!
I saw the eBay one with the guy saying no GPS too - and got a bit worried about my pre order one. I actually emailed him and asked about it. He replied saying it was GPS Ready, but needed additional hardware. After a bit of research I emailed him back again saying I was sure it definately had it built in - within another day the auction had closed early!
Whether he'd done a quick sale, or realised his error - who knows?!
Play is the best price - unless you can get a bargain on eBay. Watch out for 'Next Day' sellers whos small print says a week+ unless you pay extra postage!
WARNING!!! if you buy from play.com in the UK, you'll have to pay VAT tax as the unit will probably be held up in customs.. reason being, Play.com ships from a tax free zone.
It's clearly stated in their terms & conditions that the customer is responsible for taxes. Read the fine print!!
2ndly, I called HTC UK the other day and they told me play.com isn't an authorised dealer so you won't get full UK warranty. I'm serious.. a girl at HTC told me...
If it is a USA order
If you are in the US, then the best place to buy the phone is from Ryan at Negri Electronics. I had a problem with the first two phones (the first was a power issue, the second was wifi). I emailed them in the morning, and by the afternoon I had a UPS overnight tracking order. They included return labels, and it was no questions asked. I have bought all my luxry phones starting back at the Nokia 8800 and up til now (yes I have a addiction for cell phones). NEVER HAD A SINGLE ISSUE! The Diamond also registered on the HTC site. The phone is shrink wrapped in the retail package (he has a network, and actually travels to get the product on or before release that are not grey's). Price my be higher or lower but not by much. I trully think its worth it, because you don't have to wonder about what your are getting or when. They ship the next business day (I gotta give them credit on their speed and customer service. The answer emails right away, and phone calls are 99% answered, and messages are returned immediately.
Heres the direct link: DIAMOND- http://www.negrielectronics.com/touch-diamond-unlocked-p-1506.html
DIAMOND PRO: http://www.negrielectronics.com/htc-touch-pro-p-1530.html
Desktop CRADLE: http://www.negrielectronics.com/touch-diamond-desktop-cradle-g300-p-1526.html
Mine is perfect. They really have their business together.
PS: This is not an advertisement, this is my honest opinion. I have made purchase from expansys (paid for overnight, got it a week later).
Do we know when UK networks are gonna start selling these on contracts?
Im assuming all of them are branding this phone?

Tmobile will be doing them from end of the month from what i have heard..as for voda, orange and o2 they will be carrying it but dont really know when...possibly July??.
As for branding??..yep you can be 110% sure that they will be all branded to some extent. As usual Tmobile will make sure its locked to their network and probably Orange. Voda and o2 will probably sell it unlocked but with their branding on it.

Really??? hmm... call HTC and ask them I guess...
Mine shows up as 1 year as well... but with the following message:
Note: Your POP (Proof of Purchase) determines your warranty period. If you cannot provide your POP, your product will be warranted within the above period.
any ideas?? am I still entitled to 2 years warranty??

HTC One for $29 (Upgrade or new) this weekend

Hey guys,
I just figured out how to get the HTC One for $29 after rebates (visa gift cards), and ordered the phone. This offer is only good this weekend so I thought I would share
First go to http://www.wirelessmarketplus.com and order the phone for $149. That comes with an offer to get a $20 Visa Gift Card After you activate.
After that, go to http://www.htctradeup.com/htcone/100promo/?q=start and use promo code HTC100. this site asks you to trade in your old "smart" phone for $100+ in Visa Gift cards. I am trading in either my HTC Touch Pro 2 or a Motorola Droid 1 that I had laying around (both of them qualified for the $100 back)
So there you have it. after all is said and done, it's $29. hope someone else gets use out of this.

Thanks though.
Wirefly and Wirelessmarketplus are owned by the same company, so it makes since they would both have the same deals.
wirefly still has it for 120 with 20 dollar gift card you just need the right link
I did the newegg 129.99 with $20 gift card deal. Is the gift card shipped with the phone?

quick question, i have an old BlackBerry curve that qualifies but in order to get the $100 do you have to have a phone that was recently active? This blackberry hasen't been active in almost 2 years (ive been using a GS2 but want to keep it as a backup device). Anyone know if this will work?
Thanks

I don't think it has to be active. the HTC questionnaire said nothing about that, only the condition (no water damage, does it turn on, screen ok). The Touch Pro 2 I am turning in hasn't been active in several years.
ok great, yea its in perfect condition so i might as well go ahead. Im grabbing my H1 tmrw so I might as well give it a shot. The stupid blackberry has just been collecting dust anyway haha

Read the terms and conditions carefully. Somewhere in the fine print was a clause that said it had to be the phone active on the account prior to the upgrade. Might be worth activating the old phone for a week or so, just to be sure.
I pulled my wife's old LG Optimus V out of the drawer, took it to the Sprint store and activated it in place of my Shift. Then sold my Shift on Swappa, bought the One, and sent the Optimus to HTC for the $100. Came out ahead $75 and have a shiny new One.

Just a heads up for those who were looking into the trade up offer you have to register on the HTC website and they will send you a specific promo code not sure if just HTC100 works or not... and as for terms and conditions i thought it said you had to send in a previous HTC smartphone (I'm sending in my Evo 3D) I think it was like a customer loyalty promo thing...
but i could be totally wrong if so please correct me I'd hate to be tellin' people the wrong stuff...
ps. you guys S**K, , but really super dissapointed... I pre-ordered mine with sprint silly:dumb idea i know but they gave me an early upgrade) So i missed all the good deals you guys are gettin' now... damn I wish i had waited, the only thing that could make this phone any better would have been getting one free, I mean a phone this amazing for $100 is great but free, man thats sweet!!! good for you guys though:good:

Haha, should've had Sprint push the upgrade, then went online for the good deals.
The HTC100 promo is only good this weekend and only using that link. The pre register is something else (though I did that too). Also I don't see how the phone would have to be active if the site lets me select the Verizon Motorola droid 1 as a valid option.
From the terms of use

Without a valid Proof of Purchase, you will not be paid the promotional trade-up amount.
It doesn't say had to be active
I just bought another one for my wife's line from Wirefly but they are sold out. Still $149.99 - $100 - $20 = 29.99 is pretty great! Silver only though.
Awesome deal, but not yet complete
HTC One (Black) purchased through Wirefly F&F for $119 today. I followed the aforementioned steps and got the $100 trade-in showing. If I select the "Continue" button (given the following verbiage: "You can click Continue if you've purchased your new HTC One phone and are ready to complete your Trade Up now."), the next screen requires the ESN from my new phone. Obviously I would need the phone in hand to enter that information, so it seems the best I can do is wait for the shipment to arrive from Wirefly.
But that is the rub. I can't complete the on-line trade in process by 5/5 because it's unlikely I will physically have the phone by then. Per the trade-up site, "Complete the online trade in process, by 5/5/13 (no later than 11:59PM EST)". This has me worried I will be denied.
What should I do?
Thanks!

The rep I talked to at wirefly told me the delay in shipping would not affect any promotions. I took that to mean HTC will change the dates like they did for the original promotion because the phones were delayed.

I had did the pre-register like quite a few here did and got a new email from htc on May 1 saying buy new One by May 19 send in old by June 19
http://www.htctradeup.com/htcone/ and from that link you get this link http://www.htctradeup.com/htcone/?q=terms_of_use and in section 8 ( nice pun in there ) you get To receive the $100 trade in value (or actual device trade in value, whichever is greater) in exchange for the Device you trade in, you must register valid email address on or before April 4, 2013 at HTC OneTM Upgrade site, you must purchase and activate a new HTC One by May 19, 2013 and mail in your used Device with a valid Proof of Purchase of your HTC One (copy of UPC or invoice/receipt showing the IMEI) post marked by June 19, 2013.
Looks like the phones are about to start shipping. I had a live chat with support and they were able to give me the ESN number of my new HTC One, so I can finish the paperwork to get my $100

[Q] Asurion - New or refurb- T-Mobile HTC ONE

So i had an HTC One phone from T-Mobile stolen from me in my city's mall and when i called it on an AT&T store display iPhone some dude said he had it! I told him to meet me in front of the mall and he never did :/
anyways we got the phone number deactivated now because of it being off, and T-Mobile told me to go to Phoneclaim.com, so i did and filled out a form with Asurion, and all i need to do is enter the Credit card details but what i am wondering is if the phone i receive will be new or refurbished?'
Here is what it says on the Insurance Details
Device Details:
HTC
ONE
Standard
$175.00 ( Which was the original price when i payed for the upgrade to this phone)
I hope Standard doesn't mean refurbished
More than likely it will be a refurbished phone that is what happened to me with gs3 so I just took insurance off it it's good at times but when they give you a refurbished phone is kinda of a draw back
Sent from inside the T.A.R.D.I.S
You will get a refurbished unit. If they are out of refurb you will wait a while, if its too long they may spring for a new one or provide you with a phone of equal value.
They are not required to give you a new phone. The phone you lost was used and thats pretty much what they replace it with.
Careful they send out junk sometimes

Google play bought nexus 6 question

Hello All,
I wanted to ask, if you buy your device from the google play store and had to do a warranty replacement, does google use refurbished devices like Motorola or do they send out new in box devices?
I am just trying to decide where would be a better place to buy the phone from, Amazon or google.
As price is the same, return policies and warranties would be the only difference.
Thank you!

They're all new. They don't repair or refurb. They send you a new one, which puts a hold on the handset value on your card. They release the hold once you send your old one back

this is very good to know. I have heard Motorola sends out refurbs, but if google only sends out new devices, no reason to not buy from them.

Another reason is google won't care of the bootloader is unlocked.
I called google support for the hell of it and they said that they actually replace devices with refurbished units, which contradicts everything said here. Was this rep mis-informed? Is it possible they only use new in box devices for the first year of the device until they have a good amount of refurbished ones?

Maybe he was misinformed. They charge you full price for the replacement phone if they discover the one sent back voids warranty. They cannot charge you full price for a refurb.
The one I got today looks brand new. Brand new, Sealed box, the works.

I will say this, Motorola does the same thing. They put a hold on your credit card for roughly $500 until you send the older device back. I am going to order through the play store I think, there is no real benefit to ordering elsewhere other than amazon for an extra 2 week return period.
random question, what was the build date of the brand new unit you just received?

I'll check it in a bit, i'm just copying data to it at the moment.
FYI how the Google RMA works, they send you a link and you use the Google play online purchase to get your replacement unit. The only difference is that you don't actually get charged, But you add it to your cart and purchase it like you do the first unit
During the early part of the life cycle of the device, they replace with new units. Later on, towards the end of life of the device (like when nexus 6 was about to come out and I replaced a nexus 5), they will offer refurb. If you look at the link you are provided, if it does not say refurbished when ordering, it is a brand new unit. When I received links for refurbished, they provided me with another link that clearly stated refurbished. Google for the most part will just give you a brand new unit. I am talking from personal experience with 2 different nexus 5 units and my nexus 6...all of which went through the RMA process.

Thank you dan. Question for you, is that the date from the boot loader or the box? The reason I ask is I've found some large discrepancies on manufacture date between the box and boot loader.
If you wouldn't mind, could you run your imei through the below link and reporting the manufacture date it has there?
https://imeidata.net
The warranty section shows the actual manufacture date of the device. I'm curious if google is reboxing repaired units or is truly sending out new units.
January just seems like either its extremely old stock or it was reworked.

So basically when we roll around to October of this year - if you had a defect it'd more than likely be a refurb device and not a new one?

Well, depends if they have new units still. If they still have new units, you'll most probably get a new unit. Once they are out of new units, you would get a refurb.

Got duped LG-V40 Thinq Simlocked/Blacklisted

Hi
As the tittle suggests i got duped with a v40 i bought in Ebay a while back, i was looking for a new phone with good sound quality and came across the v40 with all the Dac's and so forth sound quality is amazing, as much on headphones or connected to the car stereo receiver, so i am quite a noob with smartphones don't really got much into to it, so i just went on Ebay bought this phone, awesome because now i had music at work high fidelity style, but it was simlocked, actually the obvious thing to do was contact the seller and send it back (USA) but i did not because i was still living in a reality that all phones could still be easily unlocked, i was working in Holland at the time and when the corona hit after a few weeks i had to come back to Portugal and with a lot of free time in my hands i started on the quest to unlock the beast but no good, i used a few services to unlock but none can get the code, can not find any software neither and i came across a blacklist check site and there it was :cyclops::cyclops::cyclops: the phone is blacklisted because the owner missed payment and probably that is why they can not get the code, so my obvoius question is there any way i can unlock it? i do use the phone for music, GPS routed thru my old phone for data connection, and go to the web when i am at a place with WiFi but would like to use it as my main phone.
Thank you guys.
No way to get around it that I know of. What was the ebay sellers name? Curious if it's the same seller that sold me one that was brand new factory sealed. I just returned it and got my money back eventually. Wouldn't be surprised if it was the same seller and he tried to resell it. Seemed like a shady character after trying to get a refund.
Sorry to say, but you own a hot phone. It was sold illegally by the original owner who didn't technically fully own it themselves. If you pay off the original debt, that may remove it from the ban list.

Yes it seems like it, well i see that as a lesson learned, i did contacted At&t in the USA they told me that they can not do anything about it and that i had to speak to the seller, too late for that now, i guess i just keep on using it as a supped up Flac player lol and it is awesome for it, next time i will cash out a bit more and buy from the shop
you can buy a used unlocked motherboard from Aliexpress for around 70USD and swap the motherboards. Thats what I ended up doing.
