[Question] Clock widget - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I see other HTC models(HD,HD2,Touch 3g) all have that clock widget that flips over as every minute passes. Using Beautiful widget gives the same design, but not the same functionality(the eyecandy effect). Is there a way to manipulate that at the moment?

yes!
I too have been wondering if we can retrieve the Fancy "flip" clock again that just seemed to kill our poor slow g1's... But with the nexus i think it might as well come back! I think we've got enough speed

History: HTC took it out in one of the early hero updates.
Therefore unless they add it back we will not have it.

Weather Widgets Donate version has the HTC sense flip clock. Is that what you are talking about?

They want it to actually "flip", the above guy is right, it was removed in early Hero updates due to the lagging of the UI. For some reason that small eye candy caused Sense on Android to be mediocre, we can't have it back unless someone can recreate the effect.. because it is apparent HTC has given up on it for their Android Sense phones. Though, it may be able to optimized and added again.

From what I remember others saying is that that early build was never deodexed so it can't be used cross platform.
This is be done 100% by HTC and there is nothing we can do.

Beautiful Widgets Backup?

I'm getting my Droid this week, and was planning on getting Beautiful Widgets once I did. Unfortunately, HTC's C&D made LevelUp pull the app tonight. I was wondering if there was any way someone could make a backup of the app and post it for me to download and transfer it to my SD Card once I get it.
I'm not sure if this is allowed, but since the app is now pulled from the market and not available for purchased, I assumed it is.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help me out.
No wares aren't allowed on xda
I'm kinda impressed you're gonna get an Android phone and already know what widgets you want haha. Less it's not your first Android phone.
if you downloading beautiful widget for its htc style clock/weather, you can buy the alternative: weather widget (donate) which also comes with the clock and came out before beautiful widget and is still being updated (for now unless they get hit with a C&D too). for all the toggles widgets you can get those free here on xda skinned by manup. do a search.
Hope weather widget doesnt get hit up...but if they do I hope they only have to pull the default skin for the clock and weather and nothing else
I just flashed a new ROM and then read about the C&D on his Twitter... Gonna have to scour my laptop to try and find a backup now D:

Nope. It's my first. I'm sitting here with an unlocked iPhone 2G on T-Mobile, but I become eligible for an upgrade tomorrow. Waiting for news on the Nexus One, which appears to be headed to T-Mobile.

Any flip clock widget? That was the main reason I was interested in Beautiful Widgets; I wanted the clock to actually flip (I was under the impression it did).
Beautiful Widgets worked WAAAAAAAAAY Better than Weather Widget Donate, and got updated more.
Sad that they were bullied by C & D. If thats the case they should change the look and feel a little and re-up on the market. Lets see the designer of the original physical flip clock send a C & D to HTC for infringing on his design.

if you are interested in a flip clock that actually flips, check out this home replacement app (still beta):
home++
I have the beautiful widget but my problem is that after I got the Cyanogen's 4.2.10.1 my phone was messed up and I had to do a fresh install and go to 4.2.9.1 I have a back up but the problem I am running into is that the forecast animations are not getting downloaded. I know those are free...does anyone have any clue how to get those????

TAT UI

Hey guys found this over at android spin. I think it looks pretty damn cool. I just wonder how piratical it will be for day to day use. I mean we can always use more software to complicate our UI.
http://www.tat.se/home/
Whoa! I'm excited for this, if the implementation turns out as smoothly as it looks.
It's like Sense: The Sequel.

you mean Sense's ugly cousin. Sense all day everyday! brings out the color in my screen
Of course in taking closer looks it's important to separate WOO SHINY EYECANDY from... actually useful.
E.G. will this make my device better, or just get in the way?
In terms of that it's hit and miss. But I do like, for instance, the means of setting the alarm clock (why go into a different screen? This solution seems quick and intuitive), and the 'folding' UI elements - such as the SMS widget, etc. If you don't need them, they fold out of the way. One problem I had with Sense is that most every widget commands the full screen, not leaving me space for much else, regardless of whether or not I'm using the widget at the time.
The widget 'fan' is interesting but I think I prefer the typical 'card' view. The ability to easily drag widgets and shortcuts directly to specific screens is certainly a time saver.
I'm curious to see where this will go in its final iteration -- much like concept cars, everything looks shiny and pretty, but the final product ends up stripping out a lot of the shiny pretty eyecandy in lieu of more practical, intuitive fare.
Good UI design, after all, should be transparent.
ide take this "ugly cousin" over sense any day
+1 Sense is to bulky and doesn't fare well for everyday use. The screens taken for the video were taken fron a MT3G so hopefully we will see that level of smoothness from 1st gen android devices TAT Home is just one of a ton a exciting new things that came out at MWC, cant wait for the beta to drop.
Here is some stuff from an email reply I got from TAT.
We are currently in alfa and expect to reach beta in a couple of weeks.
After that, we will slowly but surely start to roll out the preview to some of the 17,000 people who've signed up so far,
starting with specific Android versions and screen resolutions as we won't target all of them in the first version.
If your are lucky and make it to the list of testers, you'll hear from us in a month or so
I don't remember what forum it was but someone also posted an email reply and they stated that the Nexus1 screen res is supported at start. I also think the G1 should be gtg because it looks like a HTC Hero in the vid.

How come the flip clock animation wasn't added back, was it that bad?

I thought with the horse power behind the Desire, and the N1 - that the flip clock animation would be allowed once again.. it is even on the HD2 if memory serves me correctly. Is it because Android has to handle multiple applications, and the clock would slow this all down? I'm honestly not educated in the subject, but I do enjoy my eye-candy.. it isn't a problem, really, I was just curious why HTC wouldn't add it to their higher-end Android phones also.
EDIT: Well this is meant for the Desire, not the stock N1. Sorry if I caused any confusion.
The flip clock widget is part of HTC's Sense UI, which the Nexus One doesn't have since it's more of a Google device than an HTC device (despite the two company's joint efforts in building it).

You know, I noticed that this question is irrelevant in ways. Since I'm really referring to the Desire..
I would love to see it also, but I think there has to be something missing in the build.Maybe taking a look to a HD2 build to see if there is something extra.
Some things are definitely missing in the leaked Desire ROM, like a full Flash player. I wouldn't be surprised if the flip clock animation will only be in the final version of the ROM, too.

HTC Sense 5 UI

My EVO 3D with Sense 4.0 and Ice Cream Sandwich has 5 rows and 4 columns of apps on the home screens. The One is 4x4, at least out of the box. Is there a way to change that?
Wait for a developer. On the sense 5 port I've been running, there's a mod to get 5x6.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
5x6 would be amazing. Will I have to root for that? Not that I am opposed... I've rooted every Android I've ever had and "jailbroken" every iPhone before that, but I was kind of hoping that the One would meet all of my needs without having to do so.
Does anybody know how to make the background transparent on the 4x1 clock/weather widget? I would like the one on my home screen to look just like the one on my lockscreen, but I can't find any appearance settings at all, really. It really feels like there are a lot fewer customization options in Sense 5.
Also, in Sense 4 when you went to add a widget there was a button at the top called "Browse all HTC widgets". You could go through their whole library and download whatever you wanted. Does that still exist in Sense 5? I'm really missing my 4x2 music widget, among others.
I feel like I'm getting screwed out of a lot of really cool features that I loved about Sense. I know that a lot of people hated it, but I don't see why I still shouldn't be able to download and use the things that I enjoyed.
I HATE that the HTC clock/weather widget forces you to use Accuweather. Accuweather is an absolute joke. I've seen them miss the temperature by 40 degrees the day before. Today their hourly forecast show it as sunny after 1:00 pm in Indianapolis. Weather.com shows it raining until 6:00 pm. I would just about guarantee weather.com is right.

[Q] Having the 3d scroll on sense 5.0

Hi there!
I was looking at the new sense 5.0 and I think that it's a shame that HTC has removed a lot of widget from it and even the 3d slide effect ( which basically has been copied from all the others competitors: samsung, LG, Sony etc ). Now you have the 2d slinding effect of sense 2.0 which is a shame in my opinion. I think that sense 5.0 need those things:
- widget from sense 4.0
- 3d sliding effect
- mobile wallpaper that slide itself when the user slide through the home pages.
Do you think that a custom rom could restore those things?? I think that it's about to hacking the rosie.
1) Umh, widget will be resized and rebased on new structure of sense.
Sense 4+ and sense 5 are very different.
2) I don't think is nice an 3D effect on sense 5 and it is very tough to add in sense 5
3) Maybe with a smali hack is possible
you have to find a Dev that can have a look into it and other users like it.
Personally i don't like #1 and #2 post

Well personal taste are personal taste but HTC has basically removed half of its widget on sense 5.0 and this has no reason to be because sense 4+ is very fast on my One S and the One is much more powerful than my phone, so they could leave the widgets as they was. They have even removed colored meteo widget, there only is the black and white one which I think it good just inside blinkfeed.

But the 70% of sense 4+ widget didn't used.
And i had a One X...
Personally i think sense 5 is better then sense 4+.
For animation, menĂ¹, new style of clock and blinkfeed
this is not true as it's true that when a user decide which widget need to use he doesn't change them anymore but every user choose his combination of widget so the more there are the more a user can choose. So I'm really disappointed that HTC has removed 3d sliding on home, mobile wallpaper and a lot of widgets

When htc One was presented htc said that the 80% of htc users didn't use the 70% of the widget.
So, the deleted that and they added BlinkFeed because people want know what is going in the world or country
They removed 3D animation and the wallpaper scrolling because is fast and fluid...
Personally I like sense 5.
It's simple and clean and better of sense 4+
I do not agree, I use 5 full pages widget and surely the combination that I use isn't used from many others, every user has his own combination. Also the sense 4+ in super fluid on my htc one S and it has a dual core processor, so the HTC ONE which has a powerfull quad core would have no problem at all in having 3d sliding.

Is an HTC choise, not mine, and I agree with HTC.
Sure, anyone have different use of widget, but a lot of widget (for htc) were not used
It's not just a problem of processor, but, imho, isn't the best to see...
Opinions are like assholes. Everyone's got one
How come no one actually answer the question instead?
Yes I think it could be done but if it will happen I have no idea since I don't know what widgets are missing (haven't got a One here atm).
- Sent from here to there
I haven't a one either, I was asking since mine One s could get sense 5.0 as well. The missing widget should be the meteo 3d version and many others.
