samsung i900 omnia official thread

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
hi Friends,
i´m waiting for the samsung i900 omnia.....wait...wait..the best wm phone ever..see the specs (google it) or :
http://samsungomnia.org/reviews
http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=AGcatrxh2vA
and my question is:
is possible use s2u2 in that phone because the resolution is WQVGA 240x400 pixel.
so software like s2u2, s2p, s2v and other software like tomtom, is compatible or not?
thaks for the great work people in this forum.
NOTE: and is time to increse this forum to other phone thade marks phones (not only htc) more and more.
Remenber , diversity is wallways better for the consumer, for the final user
let`s talk of everything related Samsung Omnia
???
no reply?????
Since its just been released in Singapore you probably wont see too much talk about it here. Try this site www.ppcsg.com for a lot more info.
the new ui looks a bit janky and the screen resolution is weird
thats my objection to it
other than that, lovely
I don't like Samsung too much, but the Omnia looks like a great phone - the new Marvell PXA320 processor running up to 800 MHz (stock speed) will be great choice for performance
Samsung Omnia
why is everyone going for an inferior phone? the Omnia only has QVGA. Why not just buy the HTC Diamond which is VGA?

Basically, the touch diamond has it myriad of problems at the moment, In terms of hardware and form factor, I'd go for the Samsung. Basically, the widescreen 3.2" screen is a main factor, as well as the nice hardware on it. The diamond has a cool UI, and that's all it has. Plus Touchflo still has issues, 3D drivers not working to their full potential...etc...
HTC needs to start making devices and stop writing software, they are a good ODM, plus oh please, stop being another microsoft and give us buggy software with every new phone launch.

Screen resolution alone does not make a good phone, are you implying that phones like the TyTN II, Touch Cruise, Samsung i780 and Nokia N-series are inferior because they dont have VGA screens? How about the fact that the Diamond has no storage card slot, or has a 3.2MP camera does that make it inferior to the Omnia? VGA is desireable but not necessary so just because a phone does not have it does not make it inferior.
Versus
Did everyone see my post on Diamond vs Omnia? Here's a indepth review of both phones head-to-head and with lots of pictures.
I thought I might be leaning towards the Touch Pro (Diamond out of the question) but now, I think I'm contemplating the Omnia. The camera review on the same site is great too (Vs. SE X1, Pro, Diamond).

Camera Review:

just got mine yesterday.
totally cool. fast and responsive.
my touch cruise sitting at home while im going out with my new samsung.
1 thing i don't like is why the settings for the camera's contrast, saturation and sharpness
doesn't stay the way i set it?
Everytime i go back into camera, i have to set it again before taking a pic? weird.

But anyway if just use the phone it self is very stable. Is more reponsive than Diamond ... may be the screen resolution id different .. Resolution for Diamond is 640 x 480 however Omnia lower (cann't recall the exact resolution )

Bad news then, because Microsoft normaly don't send the Tomtom voice to any handsfree device (including cd radio car player with integrated bt)...bye bye Samsung.
Any way, thanks for your info.

Most WM devices since the release of WM5 have used the WM stack, there may be a few exceptions but the norm has been to use the BT stack.

Well, Asus and LG are using Broadcomm/Widcomm bt stack, wich can do sending absolute all sound to any handsfree device when needed, without holding active the bt, only connect when needed.
Microsoft bt stack is sending only phone calls. If you want to send all sounds, you must to use third party software that let a permanent open channel to your handsfree, bad very bad.
No
i900 is not the best WM Phone.
HTC Touch Pro is the best all-in-1 WM Phone now.
Also, Samsung material quality is very terrible & cheap.

Console / computer Eumlators ?

Anyone know of a Sinclair ZX spectrum emulator that works properly on the TyTn II, preferably with the keyboard, I'm in need of some old school gaming......
That said anyone know of any console and computer emulators that work correctly with the TyTn II, I don't seem to have much luck running any of the ones I have tried.
Thanks in advance.
yeah. if anybody knows, I'd like to know too.
check out PocketNes, works just fine

it wont run ZX Speccy games....
OMG, I just found that in Russia they were and are real big on the Spectrum and there is an emulator that even works full screen with the keyboard its called UnrealSpeccy PPC.
I could even map all the A-Z keys and play the Hobbit on it. Supports Qvga and VGA as well. Got 50fps on my TyTn II and even had a go at jetpack and it works real good.

Real nice review of it and comparison with other Spectrum emulators for the PPC can be found here

That's funny... I think I have an idea on who wrote this article...
Anyway Menneisyys, are there some news on any emulator that could make some use of the new KaiserGL drivers or the Omnia ones ?
I've tried many emulators (Morphgear, PocketSNES, etc.. and FPSECE) but none seem to make use of the drivers (I mean no fps increase with the Omnia for 2D or KaiserGL for 3D).

UAE
Check out /http://pocketinsanity.org/web/pocketinsanity/Projects/PocketUAE/. It's a nice Amiga emulator. I ran it on my old BA and it was quite fun to have my workbench on PDA screen . Unfortunately some games like North&South didn't start . I will give it a try on Kaiser and see how it works but this reqire digging my long lost CDs with Amiga programs .

[ROM REQUEST] : HTC Touch Pro WVGA Driver

THIS IS A REQUEST FOR TOUCH HD drivers portted to shift
http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-professional-news/272214/introducing-the-htc-touch-hd/
New HTC gadget (TOUCH HD)coming out soon, how about taking this ROM as a base as it somehow seems to include WVGA drivers that support 800x480 which accidentaly is our vista native resolution.
Would using the the WVGA driver from this ROM, or using more, give us the possibility of using the FULL SCREEN on our Vista in WinMo mode
/hoping is better than nothing mode
No rom here!
When you start the subject with [ROM] I actually thought you allready did it!
This is misleading and rather dissapointing
However I hope someone can use your sugestion...

Yes, the datasheet does say that.
However, the Portege G910 supports WVGA and it uses an MSM7200. Of course, it might not use the CPU for display purpose, but that seems unlikely in such a device.

Anybody know where is the descripition, for "howto" install drivers on a Windows Mobile device? Think, it is´t easy like standard windows? ;-)
Just a bump to see if there's any interest in the community , we would benefit from HTC TOUCH HD wbga drivers I suppose
I Think, some people are very interested for a solution ;-)

Maybe the Shift project Team is working on a solution?

right, the only thing at last, what make the shift on WM side a little bit more representative. Some professional customers that I present the shift´s WM side laughing as they see that 4:3 Screen format on WM side ...
will not work as a drop in replacement, but it's useful to have them in any case.

[Games] Spore Origins

does anyone know if there is a version of this game for the diamond?
i've seen versions of it for other mobiles then iphone
so asuming it's a java port guess maybe a midlet manager would work
though i doubt it would use the accell part of diamond
yep, i suppose the java version works..
but it's really ugly
there's a java version which works, although it will only fill 1/4th of your screen, and because the diamond does not have softbuttons, you cannot do anything.
We'll have to wait..
if it makes your feel better: Spore origins is CRAP
welll .... it has been released.
i found it on rapidshare [but i think i'll buy it for only 10$] and it's really cool. nice graphics, full support for the touchscreen [even if you can hardly play with fingers] and quite similar to the first level of spore [... and i love this game].
does it suppor the acceleration sensor like on ipods / iphones?
yes it works for the HTC Diamond, shame about being posted in the wrong forum though
does the accelerator sensor work?
i didn't try it... i dunno.
no it does not work.
nope, just standard d-pad controls :]
pretty poor gfx & performance too, but it's "adequate"

Probably stunted machine currently but actually supported by Google with a lot of regular future upgrades -- drivers too! Can't beat that.
$200?!?!?
Jeez - I paid $50 for it new at AT&T last November when it came out (gotta LOVE those rebates).

I wonder how it performs as far as smooth video playback is concerned (compared to the Kaiser using Windows Pocket Media Player 10.3). Not because I'm interested in getting a G1 (just like the Touch Pro, I believe it doesn't have the tilting screen of the TyTN II) but because I want to know just what the hardware is capable of in terms of processing power when proper drivers are used.
sold my tytn II also
It never worked as i hoped and expected. . .
my old ipaq 2210 did a better job showing video's and recorded tv shows.
that 's one big reason to sell for me.
the lag when ending a phonecall and screen rotating with sms did the rest.
I like the looks of the new touch HD but that seems also lagging and is not able to play video in its native resolution so it looks like more of the same but then in a higher resolution.
calling it HD and not been able to play native resolution video?
i lost my confidence in HTC for their lack in proper 2D and 3D drivers with my TYTN II, and will not travel the same road with their HD. . . . . .
A standard gsm will do for now, awaiting newer OS and Hardware.
XDA rocks tho!
