Cant Flash / Hard SPL via USB....any ideas? - XPERIA X1 ROM Development

Some some strange reason if I try and hard spl / flash via usb method Windowds Mobile Device centre drops out half way through the process (when phone goes into boot screen) and the install fails because the phone is no longer sync'd with the PC....
I have never had this issue before....which is why it is puzzling me..
I get an error message on the PC saying: "Error [206]: Connection"
PC is running Win 7, 64bit if that makes any difference...
p.s do I need to hard spl each time I install a rom? I kind of do it now out of habbit......

Windows 7 x64 is the problem, you need hacked drivers.
update the drivers of your phone with the ones attached here.
You don't have to do HardSPL every time, only one time is enough.

Since when do you need a hacked driver to flash Xperia X1 using Windows 7 64 bit?
I've been flashing using my PC which is on Windows 7 64 bit, never have I used hacked drivers.

Thanks for the reply.
I have unzipped the folder, but am unsure what I have to do with the files....
Sorry for being such a n00b....

I have a Windows 7 x64 PC and got no problem flashing different ROM's on this thread. As what the others have said, you only need to HardSPL your phone once and then you can flash any ROM you want. You don't need any drivers as I have not installed any on my PC. Maybe your phone's battery is below50% during the time of flashing? If that's a no go for you, why don't you try flashing using the SD Card method?

If you want help, it's better to actually include vital data: G3 or G4? CID & SIM unlocked, or not?
What ver. of ActiveSync do you have? Win XP or Vista? What have you read so far?
Goodluck
change another ROMUpdateUtility software
Sorry,
G3 device, cid & sim UNLOCKED.
Windows XP home editon.
I flash from bootloader..

thanks so far!
I bet it's the Operating System. My desktop has WinXP PRO SP2 and everytime i try to flash a ROM it simply hangs. I must reboot the hard way (using reset button) as not even CTRL+ALT+DEL work. I know it must be something wrong with the USB configuration as every time i need to print something the USB pen drive opens LOL
I'm forced to flash with my old laptop that runs Win2K

Are you Vista x64 or Vista x86? Either way check the information on step (0) of the guide in my signature. You need to update the driver for your HTC USB Sync.
Hello. Verry good guide im running vista 32 bit and try to install driver, but windows said the driver is good HTC Driver, ive install a vista driver from this forum a few monthes ago. It look like the usb driver is working because i use this vista laptop to flash roms.

Ahh, ok. Do you have antivirus running? It can also interfere with USPL. If so, try disabling it temporarily and try again...
No problem in Vista 32-bit (many times), if you use this guide : http://www.modaco.com/content/windows-mobile-news/252977/ruu-on-vista-it-can-be-done-the-ultimate-guide/
It`s from Duttys guide.
you need to revert to the old drivers even if vista tells you that you have a good driver
I did everything that is possible and on Vista x64 I can't make it work! BTW The 64 bit Vista SP1 wants Digitally signed driver and the one provided is not!

Run it from a command prompt window instead so you can see the error text before it disappears
if i run it from the command prompt i got exactely the same error like the threatauthor. then i tried some things and now it works! i don't know what i ve done
thanks a lot for the help
btw, very good guide!
i also got the error message "no response from device"
i have the old driver (from 2009) installed.
also vista, but 32bit
anybode can help?
I have actually followed the guidance on modaco earlier and have successfully installed cooked ROM on my HD using USPL, but after upgrading to 1.56 now when I try to follow the guide and install the driver an error msg comes up saying "Windows has encountered a problem" and the driver does not get installed. I have no idea why it is not working as I know that I have done everything right, and btw I have 32 bit vista. Can anybody help? For the time being using HSPL, but would like to have stock SPL instead.
Try to change the USP port where you phone is connected. Just connect the cable to other port. This helped me once.
try this:
in your command prompt window (which you have set to run as administrator), navigate to where the exe is.
then type blac_uspl.exe (i think thats what its called) BUT DONT HIT ENTER
then, put the usb cable into your touch hd. as soon as it says USB in bootloader mode, hit enter and it ought to work then, provided you do it quick enough.
this worked for me when i had the same issue.
weird.
i tried to flash it about 15 times. 10 times this erroer message. then i was able to install uspl! wow.. but the flash-process stopped at 0%.
so i tried again and again and then it ahppened. i flashed that stupid rom
i didnt chance anything. i just did the same as before. so i dondst know what the exact problem was.
but ok. wating for the next rom which i wanna flash
thanks for your help!

Cannot flash Blackstone

Hello,
Yesterday I tried to flash my phone. First I read al the info here and also watched some videos at youtube. I have a iMac and use parallels to run Windows XP. I can sync without any problems through Activesync. The usb is plugged in at the back of the iMac.
So I started the hsplwrapper from olinex. Everything went okay until I got the tricolour screen including text 'usb'. Then the usb connection stopped and the phone could not be flashed.
Checked the issues on the forum.
I tried different usb ports a sspl-manual with no results. Also restarting pc, hard reset on phone also nothing.
Maybe it is not possible because I use windows through parallels? Or do I have to use a cradle instead of a plain usb cable?
Does someone have a clue?
Unplug the USB cable after running uSPL or HardSPL, then plug it back and wait till USB comes on the screen again.
Maybe search for the proper HTC drivers for Windows XP.
Reply
Thank you I will try this.
blackstone ruu is known to stop functioning using xp running on parallels..
ull need a pc to update to hspl and then u can use the sdcard to flash in future..
try instead of parallels using boot camp with the updated drivers, maybe this can help..
Is there also an other alternative virtual maschine for Imac that is more stable for performing this task?
If possible I do not want to use bootcamp.

well parallels and vmware actually limit the xp capabilities..
for full functioning there is only boot camp yet..
Okay then I will give bootcamp a try

Luckely I still have some older desktop windows pc and tried there to flash it and it works without any errors ... so thank you all for the help and I am looking forward to all new roms!
are you unlocking your phone, or trying to flash a rom? if its a rom , just name it BLACIMG.nbh and copy it to the root of your SD card. then reboot your phone while holding down the "volume down" button.
Well I flashed a rom and now I'm enjoying the new 6.5 wm and it works fine.

upgrade rom htc hd with WM7 64bit

upgrade rom htc hd with Windows 7 64bit creates a problem? can do it without active sync?
edit: does not make me change the title
just copy the .nbh file in your sdcard root and rename it BLACIMG.nbh, turn off the phone and keep pressed vol down + power button, job done, happy flashing.
btw i'm using windows 7 64bit and works fine, you can flash without worries.
What you can try, is to place the HD in tricolor mode, when the device is off, push on the low sound button and keep it press while pushing the power button until you see the tri-color mode.
After that, connect your HD trought USB to your PC. Wait until the PC have load the drivers.
And Run the rom upgrade program "as an administrator".
Normally, it should work.
ALF it works also the old way, just run the RuuWrapper that comes with the rom and it will ask for administrator privileges, press next and update the rom. This method needs active sync.
W7 64 bit and touch HD
I have all my computers with windows 7 64 bit. I have no problem sync the HD, or flash. I have not seen anyone comment about it, so here you go- from trying it, no problems at all. Actully, it works better than it was with XP.

ovviamente non debbo usare il vecchio active sync vero....
course I must not use the old active sync true ....
Thank you all for the clarifications
usually use the USPL but does not work
upgade from the SD don't start remains in bootloader
depend by the SD ....
Please optimize the head of this Thread from "with WM7 x64" to "via Win7 x64". I was really confused cause I wondered if I could find an early WM7 (Windows Mobile 7) in an 64 bit edition in here. Maybe you could change the title to not confuse any more people? WM7 -> Win7!
Thanks,
Future
you know the USPL 2.5 works with Windows Vista?
can someone give a full "step-by-step" to perform the ROM upgrade successfully?
Hi, I referred to this web page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3625567&postcount=272
It does not sound as easy as this topic. I tried to upgrade the driver, wceusbsh.sys, Windows does not allow it (said does not match the manufacturer), and the steps given do not work at all. What other software is needed? Please provide link to get them.
I am trying to upgrade from WM6.1 to TOUCH_HD_WWE_21882_231109 (Duly maryone). Thanks for helping. I am using Windows 7 64-bits.
There aren't problems with Windows 7 64-bit and rom flashes. Also, your thread has absolutely nothing to do with Windows Phone 7 so please correct the erroneous subject.

are you sure you understand the issue?
Win7 driver for HTC USB is NOT compatible with those RUU Loader.
And you need to restore the XP one which DOES NOT have digital signature.
Win7 users need to press F8 before booting windows and choose disable signature check (something like that) option. And you will be able to install the unsigned driver for flashing.
So, please correct your erroneous statement.

Important! My rhodium crashed during flashing

I synchronize my phone using ActiveSync. After flashing wizzard my rhodium wanted a driver. I didnt find it and now I'm standing in the tricolor.
Somebody help me please what to do !!!!! :-(
In the tricolour screen (the bootloader), does it say "USB" at the bottom ? If so, you should still be able to flash it ok. Though if there is a missing driver on your PC, it might just come up with an error and not be able to flash it. You could still try flashing from SD card in that case.
I did a soft reset and my old ROM was boot. Driver is missing. I have to install it. Thx

if you want to obtain the missing driver, you shouldve left the phone on the tri colour screen, and now this is my question, what OS are running? Win7 or XP? if youre on Win7 its going to search for the drivers on the internet and it should take 5 mins, as stated above if the drivers are installed it should say USB on the bottom and should be ready to be flashed, this happens to me once in a while when i flash a ROM, i just leave it on that screen and let the computer do the work and sometimes the RUU which is the program u use to flash a ROM will have an error, thats fine, just re run the RUU and should be fine from there
My OS is win XP, but this computer is adjusted using XP lite. One of important component is removed (maybe drivers support... idk). I did not know that I have these problems during the flashing on this computer.

If you have the ActiveSync drivers it should be automatic. If you were able to Sync with ActiveSync, you can flash. Just let it install the drivers by itself or download ActiveSync again and install and try again.
or flash from memory card.... no need for drivers.

Copy RHODIMG.NBH (you can take from any Rom, sometimes it has another name, rename it rhodimg.nbh) to your SD card using a card reader form your computer
Put it in your phone than start. It will ask you to push start button to begin flashing.

Have you tried doing a Windows update while the phone is hooked up to your computer? Your computer probably just doesn't recognize the phone. I had that problem when I did my first flash. Windows update just found the drivers and installed them and I was good to go.
I think what he was trying to say is that he used N-Lite to strip down his XP install and removed some critical driver or possibly PNP pieces..

I understood that but if ActiveSync works, then flashing should work as they are the same driver. Probably needs even less components than ActiveSync.
