Legend Souce now available - Legend Android Development

I have been keeping an eye on http://developer.htc.com/ for the Desire source and noticed that the Legend and Incredible source are now available.
Knock yourselves out

Maybe I'm just blind but I ain't seeing it?

Online again

It's gone, but get it here (new member, can't link, but...):
member.america. htc . com /download/RomCode/Source_and_Binaries/kernel_legend_13be9c9c.tar.bz2
or if they decide to remove that too,
w w w . 4shared.com/file/oAb1Hpq0/kernel_legend_13be9c9ctar.html
I don't think it compiles, though.
Now, if only I had a legend to test with

The HTC Hero on Sprint and the Eris on VZW are the same phone right?
If the Eris gets 2.1 before the Hero does, can it's kernel source be used to make the already awesome 2.1ROMS we have even better?
I'm asking because it looks like the Eris may get Eclair even sooner than the Hero will.
Thanks

Umm..not really. While the phones do share the same basic hardware, there are enough differences that the kernel won't work without major tweaking. Not that it can't be done, but it's not an easy undertaking.
Also on the kernel source: HTC doesn't necessarily release the kernel source as soon as the ROM update comes out. For the 1.5 kernels it took like..umm...I want to say 3 months of complaining to them before they released it.
Thanks for clearing that up
As for the Kernel source, I plan on pushing them hard and maybe even sending EFF.org after them
Works for me. Legally they can't delay the release of the kernel source once the application goes live.

Sense and 2.2 ROM on EVO...request for Hero Port

They got HTC Sense and Froyo working on the EVO. It was ported from some other devs work. I figured if they can port it to the EVO without source code, our awesome devs can port it as well. I request a port and am willing to donate to the dev who gets it working. I'm sure others would as well.

Don't send that person money and wait for them to get 2.2 working before worrying about sense on top of it.

HTC Wildfire will get official FroYo next month

hey guys...
i've noticed that wildfire will get android 2.2 (with Sense, of course). Kiljacken had a 2.1 ROM from official wildfire, so we can try to port this version to our Tattoo, no?
I love Sense

ok. but we must wait the official ruu..
yes, in about a month...
PS : Wildfire roms are a bit "heavy" for our Tattoo (because wildfire has 384 MB RAM, tattoo has only 256). i'm waiting from the launch of HTC Tide, which it will released in this month, and is nearly the same that the Tattoo (same processor, same RAM, same display, but with AF Camera). It will bring Eclair with Sense
Specs : http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/HTC-Tide-phone-p_4287.html
PS2 : HTC Salsa will be released this month too, is a 320x240 device, and it MAY cames with FroYo...at least we can got good roms (without camera)
I'll attempt this when the RUU comes out, since I believe Kiljacken will be working on his CM6 port
Thanks Jacob!!
good news (hopefully)
According to following post
there could be an official froyo for HTC tattoo by end of september.
Will call HTC support tomorrow to find out the truth

I don't trust this source. A new member with only this post?! And why not make it official?
In my opinion, HTC gave up on the Tattoo by the time they released the Wildfire....

I don't think so. Recently (june) HTC Italy said that Tattoo will never get official 2.1...

Exactly. I do not believe that Tatto will ever receive any official upgrade.
I am pretty happy with current custom Froyo ROMs The only problem with them is non working camera (which in other hand is full crap, i used it to scan QR codes only).
Yes, Sense UI is quit nice, but it also offers a lot of crap too.
I miss HTC keyboard only, but in other hand it doesn't provide characters nor word suggestion for my language. So i use AnySoftKeyboard which looks like stock one. Oh.. and i miss T9 input and search with dialpad in phone application. That's all.
Vauge reply from HTC
Hello guys,
Telephoned HTC, Orange-UK and emailed HTC.
None of them are giving clear answers. Vague replies.
(Attached the reply from HTC)
Trying to follow up with HTC about the email reply
EDIT (Following was my question):
Recently I have heard from people, that HTC and Orange-UK are releasing froyo update for HTC tattoo. I am waiting with 1000 eyes for this update. So I would be very grateful if you confirm the same. And also if you can provide further information in this issue.
EDIT (Hopes are blown away):
see the latest reply from HTC in the following post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8056368&postcount=15
Does that mean we might be getting a update for our Tattoo's

by the time they release there official Rom
most of us would have changed phones and contracts
as for official update I don't think tattoo is ever
cause this is there low end phone
I got use to no blue tooth by now
and that's the only problem with 1.6
So what's up now the Wildfire is out for some time, any news?

Yet another dev signing off :-(

Hey guys,
Some of you may know me from my HCDR.ROM
I have decided it is time for me to give up development for the HTC Tattoo. A few months ago I began doing a bit of dev work for the HTC Wildfire and recently got together enough from donations to buy a HTC Wildfire and get rid of my Tattoo. I was going to continue development but I am working on CyanogenMod for Wildfire at the moment and it's taking up a lot of my time, which is why HCDR.ROM v2 never got to you guys.
My decision has been influenced by the recent release of Dexter_nib's ROM. He has successfully done what I didn't have time to do, and his work is looking very promising so I suggest you give it a go
As my final act of development for this phone, I'm in talks with iVendor and we're trying to get the camera going using the libcamera2 hack, which I will work on whenever I get time to do so.
Thank you all for your support while I was developing, this was a great community to get me started. If you get a Wildfire in the future or are generally interested in what I've been up to, head over to the Wildfire forums.
Sad to leave you guys but I don't have much of a choice.
Have a good day,
Jacob

Sad to say goodbye, Jacob! I've tested almost all the ROMs available and due to the camera problem on 2.0+ your HCDR seems to be the most stable one! I'm using it right now. Well, good luck, man! Thank you for everything you've done!
Awww! Dats such a sad thing... wil miss u a lot Jacob! Urs is da best 1.6 Rom in da forum... Dats da only 1.6 ROM I use. Currently using Dexter's ROM. It's very nice. Jacob, even I have decided to wait just for one more week, if the camera on da froyo won't work, I wil buy wildfire... the only thing Dar is stopping me is dat I have heard a lot abt the bad resolution of wildfire. How is it per it exp? How better is it than tattoo? Thanks so much for ur grt ROM!

I think it's a lot better than Tattoo, the screen is a lot better looking. It has more contrast and a higher brightness.
Sorry to hear that... A lot of brain-drain in the Tattoo community....
I wish you the best!
Thank you very much. You have contributed to make our Tattoo experience much better. As many other users, I've been toying with 2.2's, and I agree that so far Dexter's is very good (despite it's 1 week age!), but having a trouble-free ROM plus having a working camera drags me back to 1.6, meaning "the one and only 1.6 Tattoo ROM: HCDR!!".
It's conforting knowing that you intend to support the development to put to work the camera on 2.2.
Again, thank you very much, and maybe I'll keep following you on the Wildfire forum!.
Good luck, buddy!

HTC Tattoo and CM9?

So CM7 was a stellar success for our tiny lil device called Tattoo.
Now that CM7 is over, we'll are eagerly waiting for CM9. I posted this thread to know if Tattoo is going to be supported in the CM9 builds. If anyone of you has an idea of what is going on, you can reply here. Also you can use this thread for dev purposes.
Others here, you can list out what features you want to see on out Tattoos running CM9. This can come of great help to the devs until the actual thread comes up.
So when many devices have got early CM9 builds, why not us? arco68 and KalimochoAz, you there?
The CyanogenMod team already announced that one phone which will not get the upgrade is the Motorola Droid because of it's outdated hardware. You know, Droid is really similar to Tattoo specwise. Same CPU specs, same RAM amount, same internal memory.....
You draw the conclusions.
pretty bleak future for us indeed. but the hero and the G1 are running early builds of it already. so if G1 can do, why not Tattoo?

This blog post pretty much confirms that we won't be getting CM9.
Our goal is to provide continued support to all CM7 devices back to the QSD8250 series of devices such as the Nexus One.

Our device is MUCH less-powerful than the QSD8250, which is a 1.0-1.2GHz CPU and Adreno 200 GPU System-on-a-Chip.
if that is true, wildfire wont get it too.
My guess it it will run. But should be optimized heavily for a smooth experience.

I'm afraid the low resolution will be the show stopper there.
Maybe possible but it will be light version of ICS a few of the ingredients may be removed.
The screen is 2.8" n this is maybe the drawback...
I have installed ICS on G1. Its horrible ROM, Very Laggy and still needs lot of development for smoother experience. They haven't fixed the rotation problems yet. It looks to me Tatto0 will have a hard time with CM 9 because of its lower quality hardwares.
Tattoo is a 2 years old phone
Once we made it 2.1/2.2
It great already
And now we even have 2.3
What are we still asking for
As google told before
4.0is for high end
So let's enjoy the extra bonus that we get

There was a Christmas gift to buzz community from Arco
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20639586&postcount=61
which i think is a good news for Tattoo as well in terms of CM9
i still have hope!
it might not be a perfect version of android 4, but at least we can try and have fun a little bit while we wait for next year's christmas for a new phone!!
Look at this

It's ICS running on htc g1, the first android phone! I hope we can run it also on our tattoo

Yes, it's running, but as you can see it's too slow, really.
Yes but tattoo has a little better specs than G1
Hey all,
If no-one is looking at porting CM9 to Tattoo, I could have an indicative look at doing it; no promises though; as I am doing it for HD2 at the moment, where I am spending all my time
I may have a go in a few days.
Although I may need some assistance with drivers and kernel later on

Update on compilation
Hi all,
Everything I do is all open, so you will see what I have done; this also gives others the chance to contribute
If someone wants to see my progress, then you can go to the following git repo
https://github.com/arif-ali/android_device_htc_click
and when I have a build it will be located here
http://cyanogenmod.arif-ali.co.uk/rom/test
So far quite a bit compiles, working on the wpa_supplicant part now. Looks like it may be a hack or need to look somewhere else.
I've had the Tattoo for 2 years now, but don't really know the HW much, so much research will be required. I've just installed nfinityGB, as and when arco built it.
If someone can give any input, it may speed up my work; and it will be appreciated.
Edit 1:
* Got passed the wifi, just got the drivers from gingerbread (for my notes)
Code:
cd system/wlan
git clone git://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_system_wlan_ti.git -b gingerbread
mv android_system_wlan_ti ti
sed -i s/LOCAL_MODULE_TAGS.*/LOCAL_MODULE_TAGS\ :=\ optional/g system/wlan/ti/sta_dk_4_0_4_32/config/Android.mk
* Need http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20737947&postcount=27 for compilation as well
Code:
unzip ../webrtc.zip -d external/webrtc/
Edit 2:
Good News; first compile done.
Bad News; it's 4am in the morning, and I can't be bothered to test
I have no idea if it is going to work or not, and if someone is really adventurous, then feel free to try flashing the file from the following URL in about 20 mins i.e. better to try 04:30 GMT to be on the safe side
http://cyanogenmod.arif-ali.co.uk/rom/test/update-cm9-click-20120101.zip
system is going to be 162M, and gapps can be downloaded from http://cyanogenmod.arif-ali.co.uk/misc/gapps-ics-20111128.zip
Personally, I won't be able to test until tomorrow now
Edit 3:
NVM, this won't work, our system is only 150M; I will give it another go later
