Just bricked my phone can anyone help? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a used sprint hero with google on the back and figured Id reinstall android. I found this: hxxp://geekfor.me/ruu/sprint_ruu_156/ downloaded and tried it but ended up with a 110 error and a bricked phone.
Any help, Im pretty screwed at this point. I found this: hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654119 but I dont know what a nandroid backup is and I have zero experience with android.

do a search for error 110 ruu. there are directions on what to do.
just read the rest of your post. download Android sdk first. Of I were at my computer I could give you more info.
Can anyone help out.

All I cab say is search for 110 error fix and go through the steps. If u didn't make a nandroid backup...(done from recovery mode after u root phone then u might be screwed but i could ve wrong. I've never used an ruu for that very reason. Good luck

It's in the faq post at the top of each forum in this section.

there should be some files on the ruu fix post that you can download. You don't need a nandroid.
Cbarlon--I will get back to you on the pm you sent.

What does this mean?
From the ruu fix thread:
"2) Plug phone into PC/MAC - The HTC logo should appear at this point
---- If you've been doing anything else, rerun the RUU and let it fail and reboot to the HTC logo.
3) PC - fastboot oem boot | MAC - ./fastboot oem boot"
Im at the HTC screen but how do I run fastboot? Is there a command line program I must use? Ive tried holding the volume button down and turning the phone on but no joy.

This is exactly why people shouldn't play with their phones if they haven't done any research first.
fastboot is a program that comes with the Android SDK. You need to download that. Plug your phone into your PC and you should get the HTC logo. If you have a pc you type 'fastboot oem boot' from a command window.

Start with downloading the Android SDK
http://developer.android.com/sdk/download.html?v=android-sdk_r05-windows.zip

That's exactly what I said
Download android sdkand unzip to c:\android-sdk-windows
Follow directions in that RUU error 110 post and if it doesn't work, reboot your phone. When it is stuck at the htc screen
open up command and type
Code:
cd c:\android-sdk-windows\tools
then
Code:
fastboot devices
If it shows you a devices keep command prompt open then download
http://www.androidspin.com/downloads.php?dir=amon_ra/RECOVERY/&file=recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2.img
and the nandroid.7z file on the RUU 110 error fix post. Unzip(you might have to download and install 7 zip) and copy the recovery.img you downloaded along with boot.img, data.img, and system.img that ere in the nandroid.7z zip into c:\android-sdk-windows\tools
You should then have all the files that you need to follow the steps
If you don't get any device turn off phone and while holding down the volume down buttonturn the phone on. Then press the volume up button once you are on the fastboot screen.
Back in command type fastboot devices. You should then get devioce id. Try the steps again.

[Q] Bricked phone?

I think I may have bricked my phone. It's a rooted htc hero cdma. I'm running cyogenmod on it and it was working fine, until using metamorph to apply some changes to the theme.
I went to reboot, and it now it won't load past the htc screen. Even when i try the key combination to put it into recover mode. I didn't install a nandroid backup, and i'd be fine with just completely wiping my phone. can someone please help me?
Have you tried flashing the ROM back over itself without wiping? Try that first, and if that won't work, do a full format and reflash the ROM and you should be good to go.
And just an FYI, you really can't fully brick your phone by flashing a ROM or theme. You can always get it back.
Do what ranger suggested.
To elaborate, I *think* as long as your phone turns on, it is not bricked. Specifically, as long as you can boot to recovery you can do whatever you need to do, be it make fixes or start from scratch again. (I think even if you can't boot to recovery, but it turns on, you can run the RUU ). The only way to brick is to flash a wrong/corrupt radio or anything below the radio level.
Wipe then reboot and wait. When you change the framework, initial boot takes longer.

I can't even get to the recovery mode screen. it'll only take me to where i can select hboot, fastboot, or wipe. nothing else will load up past that.
What key combination are you using? Hold home then depress end key/power key until phone vibrates.

I can't select that option. Sorry for being kind of new at this, it just loads a bunch of green letters down really quick, telling me it can't find HERCIMG.zip/HERCDIAG.zip files. under that, it says no image or wrong image?

yeah, it won't recognize that either. i'm selecting the right path to my C drive too. the driver just isnt recognized :/
You have to go further than just the C drive you have to specify the path all the way to the android-sdk-windows directory. If your on Vista, find the folder, hold the shift key and right click. Then select open a command line here.
EDIT: Yeah you need the drivers installed as well.
I had this happen to me a week ago. Luckily the phone rebooted and I was able to re-flash another recovery using the terminal emulator.

I've never actually done this fyi, but I think you need the RUU from htc.com, it would probably be under support, then hero cdma? DL that, and input the command "fastboot flash zip correctnameofhtcRUU.zip" in your cmd.
okay, i found and am currently downloading the file. so i should just have to root it to my SD, then flash it, right?
I'm really hoping this works.

I don't know where the file should be located, but your posts in the other thread will yield better answers, jason knows the way better than me, given he started the thread. Wait for his response. I assume the error has something to do with where you have the ruu and what path you need to specify in the cmd. Wish I could be of more help. Once you fix it and get back to rooted and such, I HIGHLY recommend you get s-off, its basically like idiot-proofing your phone (no offense) so you can fix anything.

[Q] HELP. nexus 6 stuck in bootloader!

Alright so last night i was able to unlock my phone and root it no problem on my mac computer (which I regret and wish i did it on windows) but the phone worked great after. But after debating if I should unroot I went ahead and tried unrooting the phone but the phone would not activate, it became stuck in bootloader. Ive tried everything that I could look up online and even called google for help but they said to search online and ask the developers. Ive tried flashing the stock image back on but it wouldnt work, it kept saying ivalid boot image header fastboot reason fall-through from normal boot mode. I dont even think my computer is recognizing the phone anymore so I dont know how I would get back into terminal to flash anything. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. I have no idea what to do now after trying for a whole day. Thanks all, hope someone can be a savior.
Firstly, if you want help... please please please use paragraphs and lines and not 1 blob of text. It makes it extremely difficult to know your problem.
Secondly, do not ever call Google or Motorola (or any manufacturer) or any carrier for help. What you do on XDA is not their problem, that is why there is a warning when you unlock the bootloader.
Third, if you're able to get into bootloader mode then you can fix your phone by flashing the stock images. You most likely had the wrong environment or it is not set up properly to flash the stock images.
If you don't feel comfortable doing this kind of stuff, stick to using the phone out of the box rather than tinkering with it.

Yea, my bad. I typed it in a hurry on my phone.
Bootloader is the only screen I am able to get into. Whatever option I choose and hit power, all it does is flash the screen and go back to bootloader.
The stock image I download was from the google developers page but it did not work.
Will anything even work if my computer doesn't recognize the phone? If so how would I go about doing it?
I used to this this years ago and never ran into problems, just for some reason when I tried to unroot it messed up.
Is there anyway to possibly delete the terminal so I could start over and re-root it??
Anyways thanks for your response.
Is the device recognized by the fastboot command when connected to either the mac or pc?

Not sure to be exact, if I just go into terminal and enter "adb devices" nothing will pop up but if I enter cd then space and drag the android file into it, it wont say my device number anymore it'll say device. I'm wondering if I could somehow delete my terminal and possibly start over?

If you want to start over you'd want to be flashing the stock images https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Have your phone in bootloader mode (vol down + power)
Go into the directory with fastboot and type fastboot devices.
If your environment is set up properly then it should display your device as the output. From there you can flash back to stock.

You have to change directory to the folder that contains fastboot. Do you even have fastboot environment set up? You need that.
Google search on how to set it up before posting back. There are many guides on XDA on how to accomplish this.
Okay, your environment isn't set up ideally. Follow these instructions to install fastboot and adb on your PC.

Once you've done and you get a reply to the following command, you can move on.
>fastboot devices
---
open the google factory image file (using something like 7zip) : shamu-lrx21o-factory-e028f5ea.tgz
There is a folder in the .tgz file. Extract the contents of that folder to the directory listed for your command prompt (where you successfully ran fastboot just before).
> fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-shamu-moto-apq8084-71.05.img
>fastboot flash radio radio-shamu-d4.0-9625-02.55.03a.img
>fastboot reboot-bootloader
---
The device will reboot. Don't close the terminal window. Now, extract the contents of image-shamu-lrx21o.zip to the same folder that you've been working in. The folder that contains the bootloader and radio files you just flashed.
---
>fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
>fastboot flash boot boot.img
>fastboot flash system system.img
Some time will pass, this img may be sent in parts.
>fastboot flash cache cache.img
>fastboot flash userdata userdata.img

[Q] HTC One bricked

So I was messing around with ROMs for my HTC one and I have destroyed my phone ;(
I think I forgot to update firmware before installing a new ROM and now I can't get past the fastboot page. It doesn't power on, it goes directly to the fastboot page, and no matter what button I push, it vibrates, shows the "HTC Screen " for about 2 seconds, then re-directs straight back to the fastboot page, I can't even get in to the recovery, any suggestions?

What OS do you have on your pc. If Windows, what is the phone listed as in device manager. It should be "MY HTC" If its Unknown you need to fix your drivers.
Maybe its a problem with adb itself, What exactly is the problem. Any error messages?

Ok so your device is Sprint. Since its been some time like this it could be difficult to figure out exactly what went wrong so it is best to start by returning the device to stock with and ruu. You should be able to use this one
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407573774
Download and unzip it you should get a windows .exe file.
Reboot your device to the bootloader and connect your usb cable. The phone should be in fastboot usb mode. In the command window type
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem lock
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Wait for it to reboot and go back to fastboot usb then run the ARU.exe. It will return your device to stock.
If you get problems running the ruu let me know. It may be necessary to flash a firmware package to get it to run, but we'll cross that bridge if we come to it :good:
First of all, thank you so much for all your help on this, means a lot.
Now, I did the fastboot commands, but the ruu program freezes whenever I run it after it starts sending the updates

It depends how your using adb. Fastboot works only in the bootloader.
Adb works only in recovery mode.
As I suspected you'll need to flash the firmware before the ruu will run. Give me a moment link and instructions to follow . If the bootloader is still relocked leave it that way. It needs to be relocked to flash the firmware also.
Edit:-
Download this firmware zip and put it in your fastboot folder. Rename it "firmware.zip"
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407573774
Reboot the phone into the bootloader and connect fastbootusb. In the fastboot command line type.
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
**---case sensitive ---^^^
Your phone will reboot to a black screen with silver HTC logo. This is ruu mode we can now flash the firmware.
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
The first flash is just a pre-update. The screen will go off and then return to ruu mode. Flash the zip again immediately.
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
The second flash will flash the firmware, the progress bar on the screen will not reach 100% this is normal as long as the command line has finished it's output it's done.
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
with the phone still in the bootloader connected with fastboot usb run the RUU exe on your pc.
After that your software will be completely stock. You should also be able to update with OTA updates Let me know how that goes :good:

Hopefully someone will come along who does. Maybe @clsA @alray or @nkk71 can help with that?

Not sure about this either, but you should check the Sprint section(s) http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-htc-one
(probably in the General section)

I havent read through it completely, just glanced at it, so make sure, that's what you need

HTC One M7 stuck entering recovery after installing Android revolution HD one 92.04a9

hey sorry I'm sure this has been covered but I've been trying to root my new phone for the past 15+ hours and after installing Android revolution HD one 92.04a9 through Team Win Recovery project v2.6.3.0 it now keeps restarting in recovery and then takes me to Recovery project after a htc logo screen.
This is the first time I have attempted to root a phone and I'm a noob evidently so please go easy on me. (all I wanted was to hook up my bluetooth controller so I can play FF7 with more ease) any help would be greatly appreciated as I've just moved from London to the middle of nowhere and I'm bored out of my mind without my beloved HTC
Thanks a lot Mr. Tickles
I am so frustrated with general support of HTC. I am trying to get in touch with service for two months and no luck. My next phone won't be HTC for sure, I know.

Try factory reset from twrp recovery and the flash again. Also you can try to download the zip of the ROM again to be sure it is downloaded correctly and try change the twrp version.
You are using an older version of twrp. Try updating it first to the latest version and try flashing your rom again
Get the latest one here
https://dl.twrp.me/m7/
But how do I do that if my phone wont appear in my computer any more?
Its 100% connected to my computer though because its appearing in devices printers but under the name android 1.0
You cannot enter in fastboot mode? If you can, then you flash recovery via fastboot

@istribo is right, to flash arhd you need at least twrp 2.6.3.3 or newer (latest version is 2.8.7.0) To update your recovery, make sure you have HTC drivers installed on your computer and also uninstall htc sync if its installed (but do not uninstall the drivers). Download your new twrp .img file from the link istribo posted above, save it in the same folder where you have adb and fastboot installed on your computer. Reboot your phone in bootloader / fastboot usb mode. Open a terminal window from your adb/fastboot folder and use these commands to flash the recovery:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_file.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Then reboot in recovery and flash arhd.
Note that you should also have a 7.xx.xxx.x firmware installed on your phone if flashing Android 5.0.2 Sense roms. You can know your firmware version with the command "fastboot getvar version-main"
My phone wont appear in my computer so how am I supposed to copy over the files...
sorry guys I'm going to need a step by step guide made for an idiot lol

If you press power button and volume down button it gets you into recovery. Then u choose fastboot and the you do what alray said.
right so the fact my phone wont appear in my computer doesn't matter then?
Okay sorry for being silly I've just read that properly. Problem is when I got to install adb/fast boot it says something like incorrect parameter 'sheppard'

Download the sdk tools here (fastboot and adb): https://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html#Other
Download and install HTC drivers: http://www.mediafire.com/download/k7trah995whrw0d/HTC-Mobile-Driver_v4.16.0.001.exe
Connect your phone to a USB 2 port directly from your computer (no external usb hub, better to use back ports, not front ports)
Reboot your phone in bootloader mode by holding power and volume down. When in bootloader, make sure you see the red "fastboot usb" caption, if not select the "fastboot" option using the vol up/down and power key to enter. Once "fastboot" option is selected, make sure you now see the red "fastboot usb" caption.
Open a terminal window from your sdk tools folder
Type "fastboot getvar all" without the quotes en hit enter
copy paste the output here so we can see it (but do not post your IMEI/Serialno)
Then update your twrp:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name_of_file.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Sorry I forgot to say I got my phone all working and rooted! Thank you all so much for your help! wouldn't of done it without you guys.

This would also help me out as i accidentally deleted os while trying to reset with twrp.
Lol... Back up is 5gb.. Not only that, TWRP for this device as of now has bugs and will break root after nandroid restore. Download RUU from HTC website put RUU in adb folder and put phone into download mode. Thru adb type in "fastboot oem rebootRUU". Run RUU on PC (DO NOT UNPLUG USB). Process takes about 10-15mins so be patient and your phone will be back to stock.
I tried it and it finished way to fast. The device is not in adb devices. After accidentaly trying to reset thru twrp now my device wont show up untill i boot into twrp. Any idea of whats wrong. I have the right files in the same location as adb. I have the updates htc drivers for my device.
After typing fastboot oem rebootRUU all i got was a silver htc logo with a security warnig about non htc roms.

After I run ruu.exe for my device nothing happens. I let it sit for an hour. I think I can get this fixed but after accidentally deleting things with twrp tryign to reset now my device is not recognized by adb. I reinstalled the stock recovery thinking that might help and it didnt. I was able to get the rom.zip extracted from the ruu. Do you know what steps I would take to install the rom with the stock recovery. Or do you know how I can reinstall twrp. This phone is about to get thrown against the wall. Its my stupidy for nopt backing up before trying to reset.

Put ur phone in download mode if adb can detect in twrp than it should detect in download mode. It's not gonna show on ur PC that it's detected. Just connected and see if adb work in download mode. Same process download mode and type in "fastboot oem rebootRUU" when it goes to silver HTC logo screen open RUU and run it on your PC make sure you have metropcs RUU

Stock recovery doesn't do anything. And why are you extracting RUU? It's not meant to be extracted but to run and execute on adb thru PC

I have the stock recovery now and cant figure out how to put twrp back on the phone. Ok put it into download mode and ran
C:\HTC626s>adb devices
List of devices attached
C:\HTC626s>fastboot oem rebootRUU
...
OKAY [ 0.053s]
finished. total time: 0.054s
C:\HTC626s>
as you can see adb doesnt recognize the device. Once the ruu starts the install sheild it loads, I accept terms of the licence and hit next, Then nothing happens. It just sits on ther silver htc logo screen and the ruu installer never shows back up.

It actually is detected because ur cmd says "<C:\HTC626s>" meaning it's in adb mode and connected. Make sure RUU file is in adb folder. The RUU takes awhile to run. And window will disappear after proceeding, and will run in the PC background and takes approximately 10-20 mins. Took a good 15 mins for me and I don't have the best PC

I've wiped everything before. This is my second HTC device. I had a desire510. Either flash a stable custom ROM which 626s don't have any, or run RUU thru adb is your only option.
I figured it out Thansk for your help I had to run cmd as admin and install this
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)
Because you have the wrong ruu download sprint ruu

I created an account to thank you. Your method worked for me. Thank you so much. My device was soft-bricked from wiping with Cyanogen Recovery. I was stressed out all week looking for a solution and finally found your solution that worked for me. Thank you.
