Hero bootloop help!!! Need someone to Walk me through! - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I went to flash a new recovery image on my phone. (recovery-RA-hero-v1.6.2-blue.img). following the prompts here; http:hero-roms.blogspot.com/p/amon-ra-recovery-image.html#uds-search-results[/url]
My phone is now in a bootloop. I cannot access the new flashed recovery or the old one (obviously). The only menu I can get is the original recovery screen. HELP! I need to get my phone back up and running soon, or I will have to take it into sprint.
The only other Idea is to somehow create an issue on the phone so that when i take it in (Im within the 30day purchase policy) so that they cannot tell i rooted and flashed ROMs on the phone. Id like to avoid this!
HELP!
I have searched the forums for other solutions already, and I cant help but wonder if i have made it worse.
Edit: If at all possible, I need someone experienced to help walk me through. PLEASE!! I need to get my phone up and running ASAP. Its my bday (Hell of a day to be doing this)

Funny?
Im not sure what you mean. Format the phones memory or the sd card? The sd card has already been formatted (one of the mothods of attempted recovery that was tried and ultimately failed) so now I no longer have the partitioned drive that i did when the phone was working. I dont think thats any issue though, as the problem is in the phones memory, not the SD Card.

Here is what the phone says in the boot screen i get;
HERC XC
HBOOT-1.41.0000 (HERO20000)
MICROP-0110
TOUCH PANEL-SYN0104
RADIO-1.04.01.09.21
My options are (currently in fastboot)
HBoot mode
Reset Device
Restart to HBoot

Okay I don't know how to flash a recovery except when the rom is running so what you'll need to do is a manual install follow these steps below (credit to zelfie and my search button) :
unplug your phone from your computer and turn it off before you do this
First download the ruu installer.exe
run the ruu installer.exe
open up taskmanager and go to processess
in processess you'll see "ARUWizard.exe" click on it and open file location
scroll through the temp file till you see rom.zip and copy it to your desktop
end the ruu.exe
now rename the rom.zip to HERCIMG.zip
place that on the root of your sdcard (on your sdcard but not in any folders)
Now turn your phone off (if not already)
put the sdcard back in and press volume up and the power button
when it comes back on press the volume down button
it will prompt you to push the action button (the trackball)
give it some time and it will do what needs to be done then start the process of getting root all over again. Don't use the page you mentioned before use this one.
Since I'm teaching you stuff I noticed that you don't know how to use the insert link button. Copy the link your gonna use then when you post a reply you'll notice a little globe with a chainlink, click on that and paste the link in there. Your not the only one who's done it lately otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it

I cant install a apk or recovery without having root, im trying to flash RC29 first but cant since it doesnt show up,i cant push the update with adb because its not working for me on win7 X64.i tried to log but it didnt work.I tried home+power i just got normal boot though..Do i rename that recovery image as update?I did a factory default before i started to root process, so i could get rid of the user info from the previous owner.
umm, you don"t need root to install an .apk just use any file manager to do it, you can"t fastboot anything without root and you can"t flash a recovery like a rom
this will give you more of an idea of what is goin on

Done Rooting Please help

Hello all,
can someone please help me?
i have done the guide of rooting here "How To Root The Sprint CDMA Hero" including backing up and save the nandroid file to pc.
i want to run the Fresh Rom and started to follow this thread from android forums.
androidforums.com/all-things-root-sprint-hero/38911-guide-root-rom-faq-tutorial.html
i ran the diagnostics fresh pre-kitchen 0.2 and got an error. all checked mark except java and sendkeys which i received a ? mark.
any help on why i get this?
thanks
Have you tried just flashing the rom? I spoke with someone who ran the diagnostic test and had question marks but he was still able to flash a rom. If you turn your phone off and hold the home button + the power button, you should get a black screen with green writing. If so, you are fine.
yes i do get that green screen.
so what should i do now? like how do i use the Fresh Rom
thanks
*edit..
not in the wiki clearly..
Pull the battery out... While holding your home key, Press power... Continue to hold home... Phone boots into recovery...
Scroll down to wipe... Wipe factory data, dalvik cache, wipe ext... Press back on phone..
Scroll to mount usb... And mount the sd to the computer..
On your computer... Navigate to where you downloaded the rom... Drag and Drop the entire folder onto the sd card...
Press home on your phone to get out of usb mode,
Scroll to flash zip from sd.. and select the rom zip..
It installs.. then reboot the phone..
Download the rom of your choice. Move the .zip onto the root (meaning dont put in any folders) of your SD Card. Turn phone off, hold home key + power button, select flash from sd, select the rom, hit the home key. Wait til it is finished and then reboot.
ok so i am downloading fresh 2.0b now.
no need to extract the file correct or should i extract it first before putting it on the sd card.

Nope it install from the zip.
Now that you are looking into roms be very very very careful.
You can only install roms for the CDMA. There are roms for gsm phones and people screw up and brick their phone that way.
If you stay in this forum then you should be OK unless some asshole comes around.

$20 via paypal to who can get me root access back to my phone

Ran into a huge problem with the sprint htc hero and rooting. Alright now heres what happened.......
I was running the original 2.1 os from sprint, and rooted it with the guide on this site. Everything went ok but me being such a noob erased everything while trying to figure out how to put a new rom on it. There is nothing on my sdcard as of right now. My phone boots up and works fine but if i hold down [home] and [call end] it goes to the screen where the little pda is with the exclamation point and if i push those keys again it goes to the screen which is blue (think its the recovery screen) and has an error of E:Can't open/cache/recovery/command. And if i turn off my phone and hold down [vol. down] and [call end] it brings me to the fast boot screen where trying every option on that screen gets me nowhere. Like i said i'll give $20 via paypal, to whoever can get me root access back to my phone. I do have the insurance plan so if its considered "bricked" or "softbricked" ill just drop it in water or something but i just don't want it to come down to that.

Sounds like you didn't flash a recovery image. If you can boot into the normal OS, do that now.
Once you've booted, either PM me, or post here, and I'll give you further instruction.
Also, no need for the $20, I mean, we're here to help because we care, not for money :\
If you can boot into your phone, plug it into the computer and mount it as a hard drive.
Drag and drop recovery image into the sdcard folder on your computer.
back on the phone, set it back to "charging only"
open command prompt, navigate to the android sdk.
then type:
Code:
adb shell
flash_image recovery /sdcard/RECOVERY IMAGE NAME.img
reboot recovery
See how that works

Never flash official ROMs if you want root.
(Regardless if there is an exploit. If you have 1.5, stick with it, and use the older methods of root.)
go to the second post in the 2.1 root guide download that ruu. Now run the ruu and wait for your phone to boot. Do not install the over the air update after it is booted follow the root guide closely and reroot. if it errors out please copy and past it to pastbin or a text doucment uploaded. you should get rooted and a recovery installed.
Once rooted you should really try darchdroid xP

[GUIDE] Unlock bootloader and install Recovery (aka. how to install custom roms)

This guide may or may not be outdated since i am no longer maintaining it! Sorry for that!
I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR ANYTHING IN THIS THREAD
Except the guide itself...
The windows version is under review, sorry guys! But the linux one still is up
*Thanks to everyone who made this possible, GREAT WORK!!!*
First things first, you need to S-OFF your phone and in human terms that means remove the big bad boulder thats stopping you from installing what you want on your phone.
Prepare the computer
1. Go here here and download it for windows ( in this guide i will use the windows version ). and extract it.
2. Install HTC-Sync from here
3. Remove HTC-sync WHAT!? yeah you only needed the drivers but you have to install HTC-sync for that.
4. reboot your computer
Prepare the phone
1.Go to settings/applications/development and make sure USB Debugging is ON
2.Turn on Airplane mode ( you don't need anyone calling you during the process anyway... )
3.Download this and put it on your SD-card ( not in any folder ). This is the recovery Clockworkmod for Incredible S taken from here
S-OFF'ing YAY!
1. Connect your phone to the computer with your USB-cable
2. Start alpharevx.exe that you downloaded before
3. Go to here again
4. Press download again, the file itself is not important just the form.
5. Fill in your information, you will see the serial you must fill in in the alpharevx.exe you launched before. And the hboot version is also visible in the program ( look for 1.09 or 1.13 the one it says is the one you got )
6. Submit the form and you should get a nice long serial-key, copy paste or write it into the alpharevx program and press enter!
7. Wait a while ( atleast 15 min ) if it dosen't seem to work see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130346 for more information
8. You should now have S-OFF!!
Recovery
1. If i remember correctly the phone starts automagically in h-boot and it should automagically install the recovery you downloaded earlier otherwise just start your phone in h-boot ( hold volume-down and press power ) and it will do it automagically.
2. Start up your phone, connect the phone to your computer and remove the recovery file from your SD-CARD
3. Reboot your phone in h-boot again, scroll with volume up and down and choose recovery with the power and now you are in recovery. Neat huh
If this way to get recovery dosen't work try this
John Anderton said:
Shouldn't this be more like..
1. Download CMW's zip file (Available in this thread here)
2. Make sure the file is named "PG32IMG.zip" without quotes.
3. Put file in your SD card
4. Switch off phone
5. Pull out the battery and wait 5 seconds. Put the battery back in again. (This step is needed in case fast boot is enabled..)
6. Press vol down+power. HBoot (white screen with 3 android logos at the bottom) should load.
7. Wait a while.. it should pick up on your PG32IMG.zip automatically and install your custom recovery
8. Reboot into your OS and remove the zip
9. Go back into HBoot and then recovery. Use as you please (I suggest you take a backup first then proceed to flashing or doing anything else you might fancy )

I'm not an expert but I'd really have to say no (assuming by simlock you mean locking your phone to your carrier).
This method gives you s-off so you can get root.. there after, you can do what you please on the software side.
For unlocking your phone from your carrier, you need an unlock code (afaik).
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though.
Small correction suggestion

Recovery
Neat huh

My post speaks about the technique for the IncS. Anything else, I've not tried on. The reason for this method is that AlphaRevX doesn't work on all ROMs (like the Indian/Asian GB update for the IncS). So my post talks about moving to the Optus/Virgin RUU ROM to get your phone AlphaRevXed
knightrocker might be pointing to threads such as this one (It has a complete guide so enjoy )

Hey one of my friend just got a HTC incredible s! And its on Android 2.3.3! I'm not sure if its s-off or s-on. Do I just proceed with this steps or can I go into Hboot to check first?

You should go into HBOOT and check because if it is S-OFF, you will need to know which version of HBOOT you have in order to download and generate the appropriate AlphaRevX key.

Volume down + power ( what i call hboot ) is where you wanna go i think, there you will see s-on or s-off and also what hboot version it is etc.

Yes, if you device is already S-OFF then you just need to flash a custom recovery and then you can flash a rooted ROM or you can add root your current ROM.

I need help asap

okay i was puttiing a new rom on my phone and long story short i deleted everything and now i get stuck at the htc boot screen and CAN NOT get any further past that, im not sure what or if anything i can do to fix this, some one please help, email me will be quicker, [email protected]
im used to working with samsung phones not htc and im stuck in quicksand with this one.
Did you make a backup in recovery? I tried to flash a ROM once and it got stuck on the HTC screen but I somehow managed to hold the power button for a while and reboot back into recovery to restore to my previous ROM.
Question about situation
Normally in this situation you could hold Vol Down+Power until the unit shuts off then let go of Power and continue holding volume down. This should drop you back off in HBoot/Fastboot from here you could get back to the recovery screen and most recoveries now allow for ADB access to repush or flash another install.
If you are able to get into Recovery what are you currently running?

there is absolutely no rom on it now, so theres nothing on the phone. i think my only hope would be trying to run something of an sd card or hope that i can run some program on a computer.
twrp isn't installed as well. everything got erased, i think what i have to do is send the files over through terminal if i can get it connected via usb, idk. im not sure, i feel like I've really done myself in on this one, some one save my skin please

i don't want to sound like a noobie but how would i get that to flash i can't pull up any screens besides the htc white screen
Have you tried pressing power while holding the vol up button then when the screen goes black pressing and holding the volume down button to get into the bootloader? If you can get into the bootload (and I suspect you probably can if the phone still gets to the white HTC screen) you can flash a recovery and then flash a rom.
nothing is wrong with your phone nor do you need an sd...if u know how to use adb...push the rom back to the phone in recovery..simple as that..sd card works too but youll be fine which ever way...u have no problem
