Looking for a Stable / working ROM for the Hero? Anyone have any idea's which one would be good.. That'll be great?
Do a search. This question gets asked 4-5 times a week. And it belongs in the general section.
To answer your question: ROMs are highly subjective. What works/is good for one person will be something another person thinks sucks.
Try them all, pick the one you like.

Srsly. Not too mention this is in the wrong forum YET again.
I hate the internet so hard right now
I'd definitely look at fresh rom 2.1.1 and fresh toast 2.1b1 and damageless rom (when the new one from latest leak comes out). You can find fresh's roms at hxxp://geekfor.me/ ... the toast roms with custom kernel don't suffer from the audio loss issues but are currently only available to donors. So, you can either wait for it to go public or send flipz a couple bucks via paypal and show your support.
Don't hate the internet... That's like hating concrete because people suck at driving...
These are forums... People interact on forums. You have cool people, smart people, funny people, and downright stupid people.

Not many people realize there is life outside of xda (no pun intended) but I am a big fan of gbhil so I always check out Beezy's roms over on android central it uses gbhils custom memory management so no more task killers or autokiller app. It is very fast and stable imo. Beezy Kool Aid

I do believe I did, so I hope you're not aiming that at me.
However no matter who you're aiming that at, you need to understand (and will if you've been here long enough or stick around XDA long enough) that it is immensely frustrating to answer the same questions, over and over, because people are too moronic to read, search, and do a little of their own research. It's not that people have a 'god' complex, it's that people are sick and damned tired of having to answer the same noob questions over and over and over and over again.

I wouldn't. Learn to search. And frankly this WAS posted in the wrong forum to begin with.
Edit: What they REALLY need to do around here is set it up so that new users can't post for 1 full day after registering. That would cut down on the noob posts because if they really want an answer to their question they'll search for it. If they don't find it in that period of time they can post when their 24 hour idle period is up.

no my comment wasnt directed at u..my point is while yes people ask the same questions over and over again,,etc and in the wrong section..lol i just get tired of people jumping all over people.lol Being nice goes along way..

I'm currently using Fresh's 2.1. No issues so far. This is based on the newest leaked rom from Sprint.
Previously, I was using Damages 2.08.1. No issues there either.

I'm using damage Rom and it works perfect. Just gotta play with it a little. If your interested let me know!

Dude don't sweat it. There are a few pricks around here that forgot they to were once newbs. Don't worry about it. I use damages ROMs and they seem to work the best. They all work differently and its based on personal preference so just try a few and see what works best for you. None of them are perfect by no means.

I'm using PureHero 1.1.... no Sense, but I love it. Stable and I think is fast. So far I've tried DamageControl 2.08, Godzsons' ROM and Aloysius 2.0.8.

What is the most stable Hero Rom available to flash to G1.... I tried JACHero and it was a lil tooo slugish for me main thing that bugged me was that when ever i tried to add widgets to home screen id get force close and i also couldnt change the wallpaper on home screen

most of the latest versions that are out right now are sable enough to use right now for me. Everyone so far seems like they have text problems. I get about 50 to 70% of my texts. I can text my phone using AIM on my PC and only get a few of the ones i test. Also you need to make sure you follow all the steps so you have a working version. If i were to run a Hero build right now I would run Drizzy's Elite v0.5. With 32mb swap and 40 swappiness. That build over all to me feels like the most sable and I can run with more then 5 widgets and get no lag at all. This is also the build that I have ran for more then a few days. Just wait for the Devs to put out a build based off the Hero 2.0 dump. Texting might be fixed. Until then I would tell you to use CM builds.

ask these type of things in Q&A or search.
jacs 1.6r2a is pretty stable and decent speed. drizzy in my opinion usually has faster roms but he is working on a new update. and it depends on your sd card. class 6 is recommended

Reported? Sheesh. No offense, and I fully understand that this guy is really not trying too hard, but I feel his pain. Every Hero ROM thread claims that it's rom is the best and most stable and best for everyday use and fastest and all that jazz, but a clear report synopsizing all the salient features of ALL the major builds would be incredibly useful to myself and I'm sure many others. Anyone up for the challenge? And don't refer me to the various databases which are incomplete at best. I'm really looking for a major review here. Maybe one of the review sites? Except all they seem to report on is the Market Apps and basically ignore the rooted development community.

The way I started on this forum was just search and read stickies bc I was too scared to post due to all the flaming for people who ask repetitive questions and threads in the wrong forum. I learned how to do pretty much everything I needed to learn without posting 1 comment for 6 months and only started posting to help people when they ask question in the right section or already in a thread. If I can search and read stickies for 6 months I don't see why nobody else can, and believe me I'm not some genius I just have common sense. Though I'm not gonna lie a report is pretty harsh lol

well i remember when i tried to flash my 8525 i was confused and didnt understand. some people mayb not fully understand things and want a real quick answer. its natural for ppl to want the easy way out. and people have different ways of learning. some ppl can read and learn, some learn visually, some learn from direct feedback.
exactly well put there thR1ll... i am very well knowledged in many diff cellphone areas, ive unlocked many personal handsets over the years, unlocked and relfashed roms or whatnot over various diff providers, and types.. eg: CDMA, GSM, TDMA... nokia's, moto's, iPhones, HTC's, and i did it all from learning, reading, asking questions where and when needed... i was never rude, never impolite, but yes sometime even asked a few dumb one's myself without looking first... lol but yea, point has been proven, to next time post in proper section of forums, and for post repliers., to look it upon yourself to be a bit nicer, as you had to once yourself ask dumb things

True but that doesn't change the fact each and every member should follow the forum's rules and guidelines despite how impatient or type of learner they are. I guarantee that if this thread was posted in Q&A you'd see a couple "use search" posts but not to the extent of possible flamage here seeing both "use search" and "post question in Q&A" lol.
a report is not a flame or harsh it only helps the mods cause they cant read all the forums all the time, and they have said as much. this belongs in one of the 3 THREADS AT THE TOP OF THE FORUM! and that was not yelling, it was only making emphasis.

ive tried a few versions of your roms there Drizz... and i have to admit, i could never dream to get as close to having hero running as you guys have...
ive done my own rom cooking on cdma diamond from htc, and i have to admit, it not be similar, but its still not that simple... regards to the good jobs so far
all i am going to say is.. i like chocolate ice cream, i snort fire ants, and i can take a roundhouse kick from chuck norris.. i am just that beast.

Define "Best rom" please. The fastest one? The best one for gaming? The best one for social integration? The one with most features? The prettiest one? The best one for me? The best one for you? You see where I'm going with this?
You have so many tools at your hands: Nandroid backup, BART back-up, switch-rom, why don't you try all of the roms and pick YOUR best rom. Remember, search button is your friend.

This is such a solid explanation of "what's the best rom" thread, it should be stickied.
people should stop making these threads..I mean when you think about it, what in the world is the point of a search engine?!
@OP I'm sure you will find a few good 1000 threads on "Best ROM" but if you are feeling adventurous then do some Studying yourself. that way You will know what the best ROMs are.

Why do "Best Rom" threads bother everyone so much? You could just ignore them, you know. I'm sure there are folks who would love to give an opinion. If there's not, then the thread would quickly die.
I read them just to see how fast someone replies
A. Try them all and see for yourself.
B. Use the search button.
C. There is no Best Rom.

In any case, everyone has different reasons for reading a thread. Just ignore the ones you're not interested in and everyone can be happy.

Because 10 "Best Rom" threads every week make it harder for people who actually search for answers.
Because there will be as many opinions as there are roms.
Because if someone does not reply this way, OP will just proceed to ask all of the "usual" questions (that have been answered multiple times) without a thought to search first.
Do we need any more reasons?

if you cant do your own research flash that rom and dont use anything else

Those reasons are only valid if the pool of ROMS is static. Since new ones are released frequently, any previous opinions are probably outdated.
Yes there are many opinions. But, that's exactly what this question is looking for. I see these opinions as mini reviews. It gives a chance to explain what you like about a ROM. Maybe I'll see a comment that points out something I had not thought of as important.
I like Sonic 2 or Super Mario 3, there are some of ther good ones out their, but I always find myself going back to one of those two when I am bored.

If you guys actually read my post in its entirety you guys would realize that I did not just ask what is the best rom....I stated what i wanted and I also sated that i heard its slow and laggy....All I wanted was feedback about the HERO ROM....I said i wanted a HERO ROM....what is the best HERO ROM.....and i also asked how to get a hold of it...Also if you look at the amount of posts that I have put up, you can see I am new to this...But if I did not make myself clear....I WANT A HERO ROM.....but i hear runnign a HERO ROM on g1 is slow and laggy....WHAT IS THE BEST ROM(HERO).......SORRY IF I DIDNT MAKE MYSELF CLEAR....people in my other post helped me out greatly

New ROMs come out often, yes. However, that doesn't make all previous opinions "out-dated." The only ROM I've noted a significant difference in is Cyanogenmod. Used to always be kinda laggy (never too buggy) and with newest update it really flies. Other than that - most ROM "updates" are mainly just fixing minor bugs/adding some other random feature. Except for eclair ROMs, those are the only ROMs that are getting closer and closer to being "complete." Just because a ROM is the newest ROM released does not in any way mean it is now the best ROM out there.
As for best Hero ROM - none. They're too slow, and not really THAT great. That's just my opinion, though.
One more thing: ROMs are all based on YOUR opinion. These threads irritate me beyond measure. Its like when I ask my fiancee what she wants for dinner and she responds, "I don't care, anything sounds good." I say, "Ok, how about a steak?" to which she responds "I'm not in the mood for steak." I CAN'T TELL YOU WHAT YOU LIKE! YOU CAN'T TELL ANYONE ELSE WHAT THEY LIKE! PEOPLE HAVE TO BE ABLE TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES! The only possible thing this thread is able of achieving is a suggestion - which EVERY other thread like this has.

I'm sorry, but if you're going to attack someone for their lack of knowledge, then you're going to have at least show your own. What he said has a very good point. There are too many threads like that that NEVER offer an answer. Only suggestions, and guess what? THE SUGGESTIONS ARE ALWAYS THE SAME. Pointed that out earlier in my post but I see it needs to be reiterated for you.
Oh, forgot to point out: It's "their" not "there". There is a place. Their is a group of people. You need a comma before "and" because everything after it is a full functioning sentence. Need/could use a comma before simply. You need to show a pause, other way that just sounds like a run-on sentence. "...common sense bug me" should be the end of the sentence. If you do not want to end the sentence there, you need to drop "and" and add a semi-colon before "congratulations." "Your" should be "you're." Actually... you are is more formal, but this is not a formal essay so it is acceptable your way. "Forums" needs to be "forum's" to show possession. You need punctuation at the end of your last sentence as well. Last thing: you do know you are only supposed to capitalize the first letter of a sentence, right?

If you guys actually read my post in its entirety you guys would realize that I did not just ask what is the best rom....I stated what i wanted and I also sated that i heard its slow and laggy....All I wanted was feedback about the HERO ROM....I said i wanted a HERO ROM....what is the best HERO ROM.....and i also asked how to get a hold of it...Also if you look at the amount of posts that I have put up, you can see I am new to this...But if I did not make myself clear....I WANT A HERO ROM.....but i hear runnign a HERO ROM on g1 is slow and laggy....WHAT IS THE BEST ROM(HERO).......SORRY IF I DIDNT MAKE MYSELF CLEAR....people in my other post helped me out greatly

Your original post does not state, in any form, that you want a Hero ROM. We are trying to help. What you don't understand is how we are helping. If none of us use search, I'm almost positive anyone here who can help will leave because of the massive amount of threads/posts that will be utterly pointless. I promise, searching is not hard and usually returns fantastic results. I understand you are new. If you want a good starting ROM - go with Cyanogen. Easy to flash, easy to update, great community support, a full fledged wiki with step by step directions, and the best feature: doesn't need Danger SPL as most hero ROMs do. Danger SPL has caused the most dead phones than any other issue. That's my suggestion.

1. I would be curious when ICS is 4 without bugs,I mean ... can be used every day and work sound, camera, wi-fi etc.
2. I have installed on your phone MIUI, but volume is very small,the call is loud but in speaker and headphone sounds pretty slow,I can do to be heard otherwise?

why ask such stupid question?
ICS is in development, lots of people are working on it in their free time.
first of all, when it's unpaid work it's disrespecful to ask for ETA's..
they are doing some great work en need te be left alone to do their work without people asking for ETA's..
you can do two things..
- wait patiently and monitor the topics for the updates.. they will anounce when the rom is stable for daily use.
- you can pay the dev's by the hour, i'm sure when you do that they are going to put more time in development of the rom.
in the mean time.. there are many great GB roms here to use until ICS or MIUI is ready..
show some respect!

No worries. Just for future reference do some research first.
it's the truth, first thing/rule that comes up when you sign up at xda is to do as much research yourself.. use search button before you post any question.
maybe my answer was a bit to aggressive but these things just makes me angry.
the thing that makes me angry has nothing to do with the rules here.. so much users here that don't take the effort to read forums.. asking questions that are already answered a thousand times. (you can't imagine that such questions pisses people off?)
And i find it very disrespectful if you ask dev's for ETA's on something they are working on in their spare time.. they do all this hard work for free!
And they do it much better then the ones at LG!
if we just show them our respect and just use the thanks button on their wonderfull work.. that will give them much more positive feedback then asking for ETA's.

Dude, if you wanna get over the 10 posts mark, you can do that, but threads like this are just pointless, sry.
1. There is no "best" ROM
2. There are many JB ROMS around here (well, at least a few), so you gotta be more specific
3. The 10 posts mark is exactly to avoid stuff like this in the dev-section, so ...
You can get over the mark easily though just by trying to help people, asking good(!) questions or share your thoughts in the right thread for it. Stuff like this just makes it crowded, U know Don't wanna scare you off, just make things clear, cause people can get pissed easily here on xda.

This problem was already "cleared" up
that is the best greeting i ever had...actually i have been in XDA for about a year ago...i've try out many of rom in this XDA..and i really thankful to this XDA..when new rom was out,i just follow other's comment to know what proper bug by other's..i think many people will do the same as what i did a year ago..im trying to help other's,but i cant leave a single comment..so started to follow XDA RULES..(sorry for bad english)

Wow, I don't wanna see your other greetings If you really like a ROM, you can of course share that with us, but it's just pointless to open new, uninformative threads for it, U know? If you like sth, you can go to our famos Off-Topic thread, we share EVERYTHING there And next time just be a lil more specific about your setup if you wanna recommend sth, cause like that it will not help anybody (-> ROM, kernel, mods, we wanna know everything)

Moderating from my One Xl
I feel like an idiot, I am personally a galaxy note 2 rooted and custom rom'd user. The G1 was my first android phone years ago. I got 2 g1's for my mom and dad and am trying to get a custom recovery on them. I have rooted both, (1 on 1.5 and the other 1.6) and cannot even see clockwork mod rom manager in the market. I'm guessing because it is such an old android build. What the hell do I do to get a custom recovery on these? All the sites I have found that host amon ra 1.7 do not have the file any more. I wish it was just as easy as installing rom manager, but I canot find it in the market. Please help me, my parents are without phones and I look like a fool.

Ok, first, I will say THANK YOU. As I have already ready that and every other thread and must have missed the section that I just now found.
Second, you need to learn how to talk to people, because at risk of sounding like a keyboard cowboy, I am not the type of person that people talk to that way. No need to be on a high horse here fella, trying to help you understand how and when to post in a forum, if you spent any time in the stickies you would see rules on where to post, theyre very basic and usualy shouldnt even need to be said as theyre kinda obvious. When you hit the search key it may be kinda hard at first, but then you realize its sorted by date, and when "recovery" pops up 30 times in the past fews feeks you haved to assume thered might be something for you in there
And yes i am just trying to help so i appreciate you saying thank you but really, your on the internet, dont be tough, i and everyone else will talk to you however we want, no one is tough on the internet, dont pretend like people care who you are and just be happy you were pointed in the right direction
