[HELP] Garmin software doesn't detect GPS receiver? - Omnia II Themes and Apps

FIRST POST!
Hello xda-developers!
I have got a problem with the Garmin software for my Omnia 2
I've installed everything correctly, the software, maps, etc. (as far as I know)
But as soon as I want to connect to a GPS device it keeps scanning for a receiver.
I thought Omnia2 has a GPS receiver installed in their system?
If so, is there anyone that could help me out?
Greetings

Well, where can you find information for this?
I've seen
GPS-Programport: COM7
GPS-Hardwareport: COM9
Baudrate: 4800 (default)
But I haven't seen any option yet where I can choose which GPS (internal or external) device I want to use, when I click on the icon in the upper left corner of Garmin

Click the gps signal bars on top left side and then disable then select your port

Thats what I've tried.. It says: Only connection with Garmin GPS-device allowed
any ideas?
*EDIT*
I've reinstalled everything.. Now it suddenly freezes if I want to press on the signalbars..

HI
You need two app
GPS Gate and BeeLineGP to make it work
i had similar problem that you are encountering
after installing the two app and configuring it i finally fix it.
hope that helps

Have installed it. Now I can select what port etc. GPSgate says a GPS receiver has found on port 7 and ready for use..
So I open up Garmin, go to signal and it uses port 7 as GPSgate adviced.. Now waiting for a satalite signal.. But it takes ages! I'm standing outside, clear sky and everything.. I'm I still doing something wrong?

Hi VleNiK
Fellow these instruction!!!!!!!!!!!
I am assuming that you installed GPS Gate 2.6
In your phone go to Start and find GSP Gate
Click on the app and hit settings.
next in the input select setting
next step is to configure port
serial port is com7
Baud Rate is 57600
press OK once your done
Now back to Input menu
click Open
It will tell you that the GPS is OK but no position.
This is fine so leave the application.
Next is is Beeline GPS app
I am assuming that you installed the BEELINEGPS app version 1.90 or 2.0( 2.0 is a beta but it works really well) the trial version is 30 days for both version.
open the app than go out side get a clear view of the sky
wait for few minutes and it should be OK. the way to tell if it is working
is when the latitude and longitude has numbers.
close the app by passing the x button at the top once it is working
open Garmin and everything should be fine.
note: if you completely turn off the phone then you have to do the steps again. so i suggest you put the phone on stand by.
Hope that helps
JOE

since i made these changes, gps works fine for my tt7.
it's the same issue with the gps sensor, so maybe it will work for the garmin software too.
at first: you DO NOT have to install any other software except an regedit if it isn't already installed.
-open the regedit and got to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\Samsung GPS Hardware\InputBufferSize:
change value from 4096 to 512
-then go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\Samsung GPS Hardware\OutputBufferSize:
also change the value from 4096 to 512
-next step is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\Samsung GPS Hardware\SleepOnNoData:
change value from 100 to 0
-last step
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Multiplexer\MaxBufferSize:
change value from 16384 to 1024
now save these settings and close the regedit.
got to yor gps settings and set:
programport: 4
hardwareport: 9
baud 4800
softreset your device.
that's it,i hope it'll help you...

thanks JOE ! It finaly works! BUT.. If I've got a signal and close Garmin, and put it back on lateron.. Do I have to search for a new signal again in an open sky? Because it realy takes a while..

I never had to use BEELINEGPS or GPS gate to get Garmin work on my Omnia i8000...
Just installed the software along with Voice support file and Base Map.. and then I copied India map.. Thats it.. Went to an open place and launched Garmin.. Waited for about 2mins and got a GPS signal...
Below are my GPS settings..

Hi,
thanks for your reply! Well I tried it that way from the beginning.. But for some reason my Garmin Software only detected Garmin Bluetooth devices.. So not my internal one. And BeeLineGPS & GPSGate helped me with it. Now I have to boot those programs before using Garmin Mobile, shame but it works!

Gps

Yes you do have to re-open gps gate and Beeline GPS in a open sky place. I am trying to find a better solution to this problem. Using the GPS in Omnia ii is very tedious. I live in Canada and Garmin mobile xt just does not work once i open it. maybe in India but not in Canada i think. Aafi-rocks.
Also I tried lewellyen method everything works out great at the first time but when i open the garmin xt second time it freezes. It would not work at all. entail i had to go back to the old configuration.
My method is all i know so far but if any body have a better solution please share
Joe

There is another bunch of settings in nogarderGPS.exe accessible by typing *#1472365# on your dialer. On the menu select Settings | GPS
For Operation Mode select STANDALONE
For Start Mode select HOT START
For Session Type select NAVIGATION
See if this helps you. I use the GPS with google maps and it works just fine in Canada. I went to the Cook Islands, changed my SIM card and the GPS got a lock in 2 minutes - of course google maps didn't work because I didn't have any internet access.

try this
I) Go to General Settings - GPS
1) GPS program port : COM 7
2) GPS hardware port : COM 9
3) Baud Rate : 9600
4) Enable Manage GPS automatically
5) Make sure to download the XTRA data every week or so while connecting to internet trough Active Sync
II) Under Garmin XT - Click signal bar ( top left icon )
1) MAKE SURE its COM7 : COM7
2) IF NOT then click disable button
3) Click Use serial GPS - set it to COM 7
4) Then Enable it back.

TomTom installed correct, but can't wake internal GPS - help please!

I have the .032 version installed just fine and set to use the 'internal gps receiver', I also have a map in there and activated. Tomtom works great, aside from it says:
NO GPS DEVICE
All the time. I re-check and it's set to internal gps, but no flashing light and no gps.... I also can't see any other apps that I can test out the gps on. It's a UK T-mobile vario III.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I just expected it to work! Initally it said 'can't connect -flight mode, gps turned off' but I turned the phone radio back on (exited flight mode) and it then just says 'no gps device'. I also can't see an icon in connection manager for the gps. AGPS downloads fine and appears okay though.
Greg.
If TomTom is stating there's is "No GPS Device" then you don't have TomTom configured properly. You need to set TomTom to use "Other Wired GPS", select 4800 or 9600 bps and set to COM4. Once this is done it should detect the GPS and it will either show you your current position or it will say no valid GPS signal.
Use GPSTest application (search on google or on this website) to test your GPS. It will automatically scan your device, detect the GPS and give you a lock on your current position.
Hope that helps.

greg123, I've never heard of this (what ecltech described above) working, but if it does, then that's cool.
Did you do something to the external GPS settings? That has been known to cause problems with the internal GPS. I believe the problem there lies with conflicting registry settings.
As a last resort, you may want to try doing what I did. I have my TomTom set up to be capable of switching between the Kaiser's internal receiver and an external one I use to save battery. I did this by manually changing registry settings for the GPS. Follow this link to the Wiki, scroll to the bottom, and use the links there to see how to set everything up.
This, if you do it right, should bring back functionality of your internal receiver (it has worked thus far for the TyTN II [French] and the AT&T Tilt). You'll have to setup TomTom to look at "Other NMEA GPS", with the appropriate COM port.
Note to Moderators: Would it make sense to put the Kaiser Wiki up as a sticky?
Thanks guys. In the settings, if I choose other NMEA, it doesn't give an option for com port. It goes internal/tomtom bluetooth/other bluetooth/tomtom wired/other wired nmea and if I pick nmea it has a slider giving me the option of baud rate, then that's it, 'done' and be it on nmea or on 'internal gps' (which is the first one I used, I never messed with settings till I confirmed it didn't work with internal) there are no com port options and not working.
Happy holidays though!
Greg.
Thanks to all - I think I have fixed it. One line in reg was missing, as if tmob had had the gps 'disabled', the other was set to com1.
NOW when I go to tomtom it still doestn' work on internal, but set to nmea and now com options pops up, select com 0 and bingo it's talking!
Still puzzled why the 'internal gps' option doesn't work, maybe I have the wrong version of .032 I downloaded from the tomtom thread as I don't have the cd and the other version says 'incompatible rom' as I have the tmobile rom.
Greg.
Just to keep this answer on top so that it can be found by google:
THANKS a lot !!! This answer was the key to my question
I just owned a t-mobile MDA compact 3 (or MDA 3 compact) with built-in GPS device.
I found no hint how to use this device with other applications.
I got the device working with google maps mobile but for this
you need to be connected with the internet all the time.
Another quite usefull application is "turbo GPS" (just google around and
you'll find it; it's free). With that app you have some nice features like
tracking, storing waypoints and export to KML-files (for use with google earth).
that was my contribution to this forum to say thanks.

gps is not working

Hi,
I've a HTC Diamond, UK version with the following rom:
1.35.401.3 WWE
30-05-2008
0.93.25.NS26
52.26.25.09H
I've try install different versions of tomtom, actually the 6.32, but impossible to detect the integrated gps... I've only bluetooth, wired and Others NMEA...
I've try all Bauds settings possibles on NMEA but noone work...
Any solution plz? I've 1 day for decide if I buy this Diamond for replace my Touch Cruise or not... And i want be sure the GPS is working...
Plz if you know, say me how can i have this gps working with tomtom...
Maybe an other rom? If yes wich? Or a special version of TomTom? Or any fix?
choose: other nmea gps
COM 4
baudrate works with 9600
(other may also work)
then you need to have "waiting for gps signal" in gps status
grtz
I can't chose the port... Only the baud rate...
And i have "not gps device found" always
i use 6.030.
in other postst you can find more information about used versions
I've try this version too but same problem... any idea?
you can check the settings from you internal gps receiver.
settings->external gps
you find there 3 pages with settings(com port etc)
yes
Programs: Ports: COM 4
Hardware: Port: None, Baud rate: 4800
But if i change anything, i click ok and come back, it is back to default value... I can't set 9600 Baud or other value... if i click ok and enter again in external GPS options, it's back to 4800...
This mobile does really have GPS??? I'ts not writed in the box and in the manual too... I see nothing about GPS... The manual is very little and the box is a "diamond looking box"...

offcourse it has gps. everybody is using it.
you do not need to change the settings in extarnal gps.
just open up tomtom, choose other nmea gps, 4800 baud and com 4.
i have tomtom 6.010 (i do not know what the newer versions have different)
and it works very good.
Strange because nothing say in the box or manual that it got gps... And it's not detected by tomtom...
Any idea??? Tommorow i have to give the diamond back or keep it so i've to decide today... And i want a mobile with gps working...

you can also use google maps. that has a gps function.
But google maps need to connect via gprs someitmes and that isn't totally free... I want a totally free use gps... Not a "net depending" gps...

it will be installed under programs > gps test
Lol don't ask me how and why but i've hard reset the phone and reinstall tomtom, and now i've the choice of port and baud... I've chose 4800 baud and port com 4 and it works... lol
[ironic mode ON]So it seems like Diamond has GPS although it is not writen in the box...[/ironic mode OFF]
Bye
I have to say I was dubious when reading the specs too, as they say 'GPS and A-GPS Ready' - which normally leads you to believe that you need another bit of kit to use them.
Then I found confirmation - and was happy to order the phone.
QuickGPS
I order to get a good working signal start the program QuickGPS, download in this program the latest gps file from server.
Start Tom-Tom and use the settings mention above:
choose other nmea gps,
4800 baud and
com 4.
Be sure to stay outside free to air and you get your signal in about 30 to 45 seconds.

And that's all. good explanation. i did the same and working. But why doesn't detect integrated antena like kaiser? any answer...
Do you guys have the following problem?
When I open the settings of the gps, inside the phone's settings, I try to change the settings, but when I press "ok" it doesn't save the changes. For example, if I change the baud rate from 4800 to 33600 and press ok, if I immediatly open it again, the setting goes back to 4800 again.
This happens also if I change the COM port from "none" to other.
Having "Manage GPS automatically" under "Access" tab activated or not, doesn't make a diference.
Bye

Checking GPS

Please how can i verify that my GPS is working. I have Kaiser with Official ROM 6.1. I just installed the Sprite Terminator.
Can someone educate me on how to verify that the GPS installed on my phone works.
Download and install GPS Test v1.04. It's a free app that connects to GPS satellites.
Visual GPSCE is a fun little tool for checking if it's working.
To Configure go into Connect > Serial and Select COM4. (Ignore the fact that Serial is Ticked and do this anyway).

Thanks for the answer. I have downloaded and installed the app. However when i start it up it stays forever at "GPS Starting Up"
It does not go beyond this stage.
By the way, do i need to peel of the gps cover at the back of the TYTN II unit?
Not really. The cover is for attaching external GPS.
1. Goto Settings->Connections->External GPS. Make sure that the program port is selected as COM4, the hardware port is selected as None and baud as 4800. In the next screen select "Manage GPS automatically"
2. In GPStest settings ensure that COM4 is selected.
3. Also make sure that the QuickGPS data is up-to-date

Those are the settings I have as well!!
I lost gps functionality after flashing to a new ROM.
Radio .07 and doing a "warm start" in htc gps tools got it working again, now from cold (ie initialising device to getting lock) is 25 seconds. (20 seconds to initialize gps, 5 seconds to get a lock!)
Try using gps gate,it will automatically configure gps settings and then start destinator,it should detect the inbuilt gps receiver and give you a fix,I had exactly the same problem with destinator 7, it just would not detect gps after using gps gate everythings fine, hope this helps.

Any help plssss????
Changed the radio but still the same .It will not find any satellites.Maybe the gps chipset is %^$%$#.
ok, your GPS module is detcted, right?
In GPS test, can you see signal of satelites or not?
Flash your radio again and do intermediate hard reset before phone fully boots. If doesn't work flash both rom and radio (hard reset after each!). Just had the same problem on my diamond (solved today) and had it in the past on Kaiser. GPS detected, gps tool see sats but they are permanently red and flat (like they wouldn't have any strengh at all) And its always to do with radio so don't worry about your chipset.
I just read another thread and found this:

POST394:
Hi,
After i had some GPS-Problems (no Sattelite link etc.) i tested many combinations on my own. At the End this works on two Diamonds:
1. Follow the "Unlock description" if necessary
2. Flash your ROM (i used the AZTOR V6)
3. Hard-Reset your Device! <- Important
4. check Com-Port
5. Cold Boot yor GPS
6. Warm Boot yor GPS
7. Hot Boot your GPS
8. No link-Problems, no Lags and very fast Sattelite link (after a few Tests: First Sattelite Link ca. 2 min. After first using GPS ca. 20 sec. to Sattelite-Link)
Important: After installing "Sensor-Lock" my GPS was completely Dead.
I don`t read the completely Thread but i hope this is a little bit helpful.

GPS problem with my tilt after flashing official 6.1 (already searched...)

OK, i've already searched the forum on this issue (went through all 12 pages of results for the words "tilt" and "gps", and while some others seem to have had this same problem, once they get down to the actual problem, the thread seems to end.
the problem is that ever since I upgraded my 6.0 wm version to 6.1 via the official att rom, my gps does not seem to work at all. and by this, I don't mean that I just can't get a lock on any satellites, but the gps itself doesn't seem to be working at all. i've loaded gpstest and after scanning through all the com ports (skipping com4 which is where it should be), it cannot find any gps device. I have downloaded the quickgps updates and the only other thing of note I would say is that I didn't load the att bloatware with the update. and because it started the moment I upgraded, I don't believe a hard reset would do much (would like to try everything possible beforehand so I don't have to reload everything)
now, if i have skipped the thread that gives the answer to this question, I would very much appreciate a link/response on this, as it's been bugging me for quite some time now. thanks in advance
Did you update the radio as well as the rom? Most 6.0 radios are not compatible with 6.1 roms. See the Ultimate Radio Thread for more info.
radio version is 1.65.21.18, and according to the wiki that should be a working radio for wm 6.1. lists this specific radio under the section "KAISER Radios These Radios were ripped from Kaiser WM6.1 ROMs. "
What program are you trying to use with for your gps? TomTom, Googlemaps?
I think I mastered getting a gps fix and I don't think you will have a problem if I help you.
Please provide
1) what gps application are you using
2) baud rate
3) are you using anything to open your gps port before you attempt to run the program?
4) did you change anything in external gps settings?

1.) well, initially i've just been trying to get gpstest to recognize the fact that i have a gps device at all, but i generally use google maps as my main gps program.
2.) for baud rate, i've been setting at 4800. admittedtly, i'm not sure what the baud rate does, but i've always read that that is the correct setting with few that say otherwise (i've tried multiple settings just to see if they work, they don't)
3.) i can't get anything TO open the gps port, as in gpstest skips com4 when searching for a device, google maps just times out trying to locate a signal (outside, clear view of the sky, before the upgrade i could get a signal sitting in my apartment on the first floor)
4.) i haven't changed anything from what it is at default (gps program port: com4, gps hardware port: none, baud rate: 4800, manage gps automatically is checked)
very much appreciate the help

sorry about the delay, I was at work and having issues posting a response with opera on this site because it stated I didn't have the proper tokens? No idea...
Anyhow, it appears you have all the right settings which is good. But you are definitely needing a better program to launch your gps. So stop using gps_test, as I offer you HTC_GPS_Tool, attached cab is at the bottom.
1) install cab to main memory
2) open googlemaps>menu>options>gps settings>set manually> com4 > Baud 4800 > click ok> menu select use gps
3) close googlemaps
4) open quickgps and download updates
5) open HTC_GPS_Tool>set com4> baud 9600 (yes 9600) > Click Open> "Hot Start" should be selected below it > let program run for about 45 seconds or more > DO NOT MINIMIZE OR CLOSE THIS APPLICATION BY CLICKING X OR OK
6) open googlemaps by going to start menu as it is the only option to select the application with GPS_Tool open (unless of course you have a hardware button shortcut for it)
7) You should have no issues getting a gps fix on googlemaps within 30-40 seconds for the first time.
8) However if you do receive issues restart this process and at Step 2 change Baud to 9600 in google maps but it shouldn't be necessary. These steps shouldn't be necessary everytime you want to open your gps port. However, if you encounter issues you have HTC_GPS_TOOL to help you. Always remember to update your quickgps outdoors if you plan on using it. Finally, leave your external gps settings alone.
If you have any further questions feel free to ask via pm or back in this thread, that is if mods don't lock it because your question was answered?
i just got done following all of the instructions (i already had htc gps tool installed in my quest to find something that works), and google maps came back and said that no gps receiver was found, even after setting the settings manually exactly as you said.

it was enabled, just disabled with kaisertweak and am going to try the process once again
ok, we're making progress now lol. after disabling agps, htc gps tool started to actually give me scrolling text like it was working as opposed to the dialog box being completely empty. I goto open google maps, and at first get the same "gps device not found" message, but then for kicks I changed google maps to get gps settings from windows, and now it's past the initializing gps and is finally seeking satellites now. it might be because of a cloudy day today, but neither gps tool or google maps has gotten an actual fix on any satellites
thanks very much for the help so far, can't believe i didn't think of something so obvious to try
just went to grab some lunch, figured i'd try to get a fix on the way, google maps by itself got a fix in less than 5 seconds. thank you very much for taking the time to help me out, i am in your debt
