UPDATE
I just had a word with one of their customer respresenative named Mandy, she sounded very pleasant and nice. After going through the whole dealing process she insisted that the minimum order to modify an item is 500 units. So if any of the manufacturers or businessman can order 500 HD2 then it might be possible that we can have a custom built Qwerty Keypads for our HD2.
By the way she also assured that the item is bieng checked by one of the quality checking teams and it will be available on the website pretty soon. So enjoy the beautiful keyboard since then.
Just found another website which is selling the same product. Have a look here : http://www.chinajiaho.com/mini-bluetooth-keyboard-for-ipad-and-smartphones_p1361.html
The Big Deal
Now while going through the product description i noticed quite interesting details:
It is almost simlar to the length / breadth height with our hd2.
HTC HD2 :120.5mm x 67mm x 11mm KEYBOARD:115mm x 60mm x 6 mm
What More !!
As specified on the website, they also have custom made keypads available if the product is bought on lots or wholesale of 500 and above number.
Now this is interesting as i am going to contact them and ask them strictly to this option whether they can make custom keypads with a hinge or a hook for an hd2, i would happily place an order of 500+ keyboards.
Dont you all think this would be a great addon for our HD2. If anyone interested please add your comments here, and lets make this idea into reality.
Imagine HD2 with a Qwerty Keypad .. This sounds to good to be true.
Price/Cost
And my last surprise to you, this is worth only only only USD 20
For more details you can go directly to the production description website : THE CHINAVASION WEBSITE HAS BEEN DELETED FOR NOT MEETING CUSTOMER NEEDS.
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM CHINAVASION. BAD REP, BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE.

looks awesome!

tooo bad ...
Sold out .....

lol, check the word "Keyborad" on the images, wrong spelling. Typical "made in China" !
The keyboard itself looks interesting and will be very handy though. Really excited to try

I don't get why the OP is going on about bulk orders for modifying them. First of all we need to order 500+ to get them modified, then we only need 25+ to get them modified.
Why on earth do they need modifying in the first place? I'm lost.

i think he means 500+ to get them modified to an easier design to use with the hd2, and 25+ to buy now as they are.
How would it fit onto the hd2? or wont it at all. If it cant clip on, or you just hold it, what the point? lol you might as well have just got a phone with a keyboard...
otherwise ur gonna have to carrry around a huge keyboard with you everywhere.
silly idea im afraid, you wont get 500 people to buy them i can tell you that now..

hey mate thanks for correcting here, i actually didnt remove the other comments after updating, doing it now. thanks. the keypad can be modified only if we order above 500+ units. i am not a businessman so cannot ask them for such order. anyways when it will be available i will update my post. thanks though bringing it to my attention.

visually it reminds me of the rhodium keyboard.
I have to admit for occassional use it would be great, I don't tend to write articles and stuff on my pda any more, whereas I used to on my advantage all the time. I may be tempted if it felt good to use, which is the risk with some of these, they feel awful to actually type with
looks a very cheap price, most other sellers are charging twice that price.

I want one. For $20 you can't go wrong. Could be very handy for remote controlling many apps and may allow control of lots of games, etc I can't otherwise control because of lack of hard keys. When can we order??

For those in the UK have you seen this?

Possible to upgrade the internal 4GB memory??

Obviously not having one yet and few people do I'm wondering what do people think the chances will be we can crack open the diamond and replace the 4GB memory with something larger. I'm hoping it will be like the case of early ipods where they used a CF card as the storage medium and a simple replacement gave you more memory...

May be... Just try
http://www.techlivez.com/2007/03/8-gb-flash-memory-for-mobiles-byhtml/
http://www.physorg.com/news72544557.html
The chances of there being a CF, SD or microSD card in there are zero.
It may be possible to stack the NAND flash chips, or replace the ones in there, but i think it will only be feasible if they use TSSOP package. If they use BGA chips it'll be alot more dificult to do and require special equipment. Even with that equipment its dangerous because of the densly packed components that will be close to the flash chip.
I can see after a little while, if the phone is that popular, some companies selling them premodded with more capacity.
if i remember correctly its a samsund moviNAND in there. no microsds. you would have to find out if they make bigger ones and probably solder on the new ones. with it being so thin you will not be able to fit anymore chips in there.

Not sure if Samsung has higher density chips already but I think they do. It's just a matter of time before costs drop and the Diamond suddenly starts shipping with 8 gigs of ram. Though they should have gone with something similar to the Apple with the iPhone and if the chips are available now, released a 4 gig, 8 gig and possibly even higher model at initial release with the added cost of course. If I'm buying an unlocked non-subsidized version of the Touch Dimaond, at the cost, I would have easily spent an extra $200 to get an 8 Gig or 16 Gig model. I'm sure a lot of people would agree.
I'm not complaining though, I would have liked at least 8 gigs of ram and a larger capacity battery but this is pretty much the phone I've been wanting for so long, good amount of program memory, vga display, everything I want (bluetooth, gps, radio...) plus extra (hard screen, accelometer..) and I couldn't ask for a better size in form factor than the Touch Diamond.

I'm hoping that HTC are clever enough to release models with more memory later - they were certainly clever enough to do that with the Touch. However, having said that, I can't see myself needing more than 4GB anyway.
i remember i even went as far as getting the model number for the nand on the diamond when i investigated the chipset it had bac when i had one of the first diamond roms. If anyone wants when i find some time i can go bac and look once more. pretty sure it was a samsung. though i think there wasnt any bigger sizes at that time.
I'd be interested to know what chip it is.

if you look. 4gb is the biggest it gets for the size of the chip. you will see what i mean when u check the page and the specs for each of the sizes.
Wow, not what i was expecting. That architecture looks like it should be slow. I'll try to find a proper datasheet for it.
From the link provided 8GB is available. Also as I suspected and mentioned before it is a BGA package, so no modifying for the casual user. In fact depending on what’s on the reverse side of the pcb, and how far into the keep-out area HTC have encroached while laying out the circuit, it might mean no modification at all, unless you’re prepared to re-solder on a whole bunch of passive components.
Here is a shot of the Nvidia that seems to show a SD slot inside.

yep, i agree. I think its unlikely removing such a small BGA chip is going to be feasible with the densly packed PCB we can expect in the phone.
Any updates?
I like HTC Diamond, but no expandable 4GB flash is a no go for me. So if Samsung is developing 8GB flash drives it is possible HTC will release a 8GB Diamond version too.
HTC Touch Pro as alternative device is too big and i don't like the slideout keyboard (had one on HTC TyTN).
In the early days it was possible to upgrade you're ram on the ipaq hx4700. Perhaps these guys are offering some upgrades in the future: http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main~unit~Mfg-M59~area~upgrades~action~select_unit.htm
it sounds unlikely from the BOM lists i've seen. Most likely they're using samsung uBGA packages, so stacking isnt an option.
That makes it more expensive to upgrade (because you have to throw the old chip out, or reball it and sell it for a pitance), and alot harder and riskier (because the uBGA package is tiny, if you rip a pad off while removing it, you'll need a new pcb!)
If no one finds the trick to plug a usb key , we will pay for a professional service that could change Nand's , as long as a new model with more memory will not be released...
4gb: use Rss (a few podcasts), mp3 and Gps maps and you 'r quickly done :-(
It's been a while since anyone posted in this thread. Has anyone figured out a way to increase the storage capacity of this phone yet? I've got one and the 4 gigs just does not cut it. I would love to really upgrade this to more memory. Any new input?
I recall a post where someone cracked a phone open, and the community agreed an upgrade could not be done.

Paid Apps/Games Reviews

Paid apps are here. You need to sign up here to purchase apps checkout.google.com After youve signed up when you purchase app/game it will verify card then install normally just like any other market app/game. If you see a 1.00 charge on account that is google verifying funds, not to worry it technically isn't charged at all and will disappear in a day or so. All apps/games are fully refundable within 24 hours so even if you dont like it no worries which i think is pretty awesome of google! Once your G1 shows paid apps in market, reboot your phone and a new option will be in menu that gives you the option to either view free, paid or all apps. Worked for me anyways! Oh and they update like most normal apps do, just got update this morning. NON U.S. g1's can't get paid apps
I thought it would be a good idea to get a thread going on all the paid apps/games available out there for the G1. I have wasted some money on garbage and if i or any of us can save someone wasting their hard earned money on trash why not right?? Recommend an app/game as well, not much out yet but hey good for future use as well
Paid App Reviews
I think it would be a good idea for us to review paid applications on these forums, since the Market typically gets flooded with "first" spam and other nonsense.
To do this we would need a template to rate the applications, I suggest the following:
------------
Name: <Name of the App>
Type: <What kind of App it is>
Cost: <Price of the App>
Rating: <Your review, please keep this on a 1 thru 10 system>
<Any comments you have about the App>
------------
Please keep this thread organized and follow the template laid out above.
And screenshots would also be awesome...
Don't know how easy it would be though.
Nice to know the refund thing works though.
Name: Prime Full
Type: Game
Cost: About .79 US
Rating: 4/5
Comments: I was a big fan of the free version (not Lite version). The only drawback to that was that you couldn't get past lvl 59. The full version seems way better. Allows you to change between two backrounds, and gives you multiple shots as you get highter. A nice feature, but currently makes it easier. We shall see how it goes on the later levels. For 79 cents, it's was worth it just to try out the buying experience.

This is a fantastic strategy game with a risk-like concept. Great thing about this game is that there's a demo. Try it out, if you like it, buy it! The full version adds world domination mode (As opposed to race to 100 pts), and different eras you can play in (Changes the amount of factions, etc). There is a currently inactive spot for online multiplayer, which hopefully they'll add soon. If you like strategy games, give this one a go!
Name: Retro Defense
Type: Game
Cost: $4.99
Rating: 7/10
This is probably the cleanest tower defense game I've played. Reminds me of Vector TD. This is a huge upgrade from the lite version as you get tons of levels. There are still just the 3 towers (3 ranks each) and the slow tower, could probably use more. This game would be a 10/10 if it was $1-2.

Name: Guitar Hero: World Tour Mobile
Type: Game
Cost: $9.99
Rating: 7/10
The game is ok, with only three notes and no true "strumming" action it feels kinda bland. The biggest drawback is it's price. At $9.99 its a pretty expensive game for what it currently offers. Unfortunetly this was my first paid app and I mis-clicked refund/uninstall on the market and got a refund before I could really even play. Doing this voids you from getting any future refunds of that particular app. All in all it's Guitar Hero for your phone, with free monthly updates.
1.) Word to the mods! Either make this thread a sticky, or one like it because a Paid Apps Review thread is sticky worthy! Also I expect to see this topic get a lot more action within the next week.
2.) I've paid for BetterCut and Advanced Task Manager, both of them at reasonable prices and both quality apps. There are garbage paid apps out there, most of them should be a dead giveaway from the title alone, but some are not. For BetterCut, I would recommend this app to anyone and give it 5 out 5 stars. The only added value I see would be if it included stock icons (like iPhone icons). Advanced Task Manager is great as well, but its true value is for rooted phones. Like Task Manager before, it gives you the capability to kill apps if you're rooted (no dirty pun intended) ;-)
3.) There should be a way for theme developers to now start charging for their themes, of course warning the customer that they only work with rooted G1s, and make some money for their hard efforts. Theme devs, I hope you're paying attention, I would be willing to shell out a few bucks for some very nice themes!

Im not sure on the accelerometer & GPS v the iPhone but the iPhone does have a dyno app and i have seen video comparisons of their Dyno app v a dedicated unit and every time the app won out over the dedicated unit.
Im not saying that it will be exactly the same but to me its promising.

I retract my previous statement, but we'll c how it comes out, hopefully the same or better
might be waiting for paid apps. if this thing is as good as Dynolicious for the iphone then its definatly going to be worth paying for.
i agree, if this thing is as good as Dynolicious then i would definitely pay for it. Hope it wont be much longer now, as the market is accepting paid apps.
Thats awesome. Hope we have that soon.
just for reference, i have used a mobile dyno device a long time ago, and it was pretty accurate.
if you want spot on results go to a shop with a dyno.. but it gave a very good estimation for a 200$ device back in the day
it more of something fun to find out.
And if its as good as the iPhone version than it will be really accurate.
Plus i wouldnt even think about spending 200 on something like that, if i can get something for 10
You mean you got your phone for $10?

If you make a statement like this, then obviously you're not a car guy, not even with that screen name.
Yeah, it would be a "cool" app, but if someone was to quote me their engine power based on the reading from a phone (G1, iPhone or otherwise), I would laugh.
a nice dyno app would be better if you have fuel management hardware. there is a system called megasquirt which you can build the hardware from scratch and download their application to tune the engine. i think its open source so it should have the source code and it can possibly ported to the g1, im not an expert. just know how to use a dyno and an engine management system. just integrate an android device with megasquirt or aem, or greddy emanage it would be a nice combo. so there would be no need for a laptop. too bad im not a programmer.

Im just not a guy who wants to waste money. Going off the video i posted in this thread the iPhone version was more accurate.
so i wouldnt care if the dedicated unit was the same price id still go with the one that was more accurate.
If i can spend $10 on an app for my phone have it more accurate than a dedicated unit and easer to setup and use with multiple cars. I know which ones a winner for me

Problem is the HP data it displays is pretty much useless. Sure it can show you what your MAX HP is, but it won't show you Torque output and what's most important your power curves. Max power is useless unless you know WHERE your max power is in your RPM range. Dyno tuning is used for more then showing off big numbers, its used for tuning your engine where and when you want that power to come into play to suit your style of driving and the kind of racing you're doing. For engine tuning stick to a real dyno.
Now, as for the other data such as 0 - 60, braking, turning G's, etc etc. THAT data I find useful because combined with google maps of the track you can help yourself identify where you made mistakes and to better tune your suspension.
Ron,
Good point with using with on the track to find your weak spots.
I didnt even think of this.
To be honest i was thinking of it more of a toy to mess around with, with a few mates.
Ron Overdrive said:
Problem is the HP data it displays is pretty much useless. Sure it can show you what your MAX HP is, but it won't show you Torque output and what's most important your power curves. Max power is useless unless you know WHERE your max power is in your RPM range. I wouldnt call it useless, obv if they want to tune their car, and/or want to know their curves theyd jus go dyno their car. The app is for the people who just want to know what the app tells u. Its not replacing an actual dyno

Oh that I know, but you know as well as I do that there will be some wannabe dyno-queen ricer that would think otherwise. I rather lay out reality on the table before anyone who doesn't know what they're doing comes back whining about how its such a horrible app because they blew their motor trying to net 300+ hp out of their poorly tuned honda while trying to get a base-line on some back road.

Who thinks there will be an iPhone slider phone?

of course the iPhone would have a keyboard...who thinks this will happen within the next 10 years (2009-2019) for the iPhone line of phones?
Edit: When I said "of course the iPhone would have a keyboard" I meant that if the iPhone was a slider a phone, than of course I am talking about an iPhone with a qwerty keyboard...not a dial pad....not like an N95 but something more like a Touch Pro
as a follower, they should prepare to have it
i doesnt really matter even if they attach some xtrange keyboard is just one thing i never but never matters to me
No, will not happen
I don't think there will be a slider phone from Apple, simply becaise the designs of the Iphone won't allow sliding extras. The design of the phone was always based on looking solid and out of one piece, like it's the case with the Imac, Iphone and Ipod. I rest my case
Even if they do, it will still be crap. Anyways, I don't believe there will be iPhails in 2019.............
EDIT: It looks like in my blind hatred I forgot to answer the question.
I think it is the next logical step. iPhail users can be easily satisfied, but many people have switched to devices with a physical keyboard. Pre, Xperia, N97 and so forth offer much more flexibility and I will not even mention the endless stream of messaging phones. I bet that crApple will try to tap that market and the only way to do that is to add a keyboard. Advancements in haptics will not compensate for the lack of one.
Haha look at this:

Same here +1
Iphone will never have a hardware keyboard because they're all abut touch and so on plus the iphone looks boring in design since they all look alike i bet the only difference between the iphones now and the distant future ones will be the thickness.
Yup I dont think so neither

Yeah!! I also think that it will have a slider phone.
Really
Nope, don't think it will ever happen
The concept of Iphone does not allow additions or protruding parts. Besides, the latest trends indicate shift towards keyless or full qwerty full touch large screen devices and Iphone is already there. They will improve functions and OSX, adding a video call and other gadgety things, but will not add a keyboard in any shape or form. They don't even want an external one used, that's something to ponder.
In 10 years we won't even remember Iphone, we'll have the next best thing - a cellphone inbuilt into our brans with calls made by voice and answered by blinking twice or pulling on the ear. Or better still - we'll genetically modify our future progeny to be born with a cellphone already growing in the brain and attached to the eye, so that any e-mails, txt messages, photos and movies are downloaded and viewed automatically and video calls can be made clicking your tongue

minor inconveniences.
back on topic... the IPhone will probably never receive a built in keyboard. but i am sure small external ones will appear eventually with Bluetooth being opened up.
Apple will likely release an overly expensive bluetooth keyboard that the masses will buy because it looks good and works only with the iPhone.

Doubtful , Apple doesn't do accessories, not enough of a profit margin.
They are more likely to come out with a tablet that makes phone calls.
The number of iPhail threads lately is concerning....

then i bet the fact that XDA-developers.com owns Iphone-developers.com must be really unsettling.

[APP] Birdy Bounce -[R]- 11/23/2010 -[U]- 01/25/2010 -[V]- 2.1

Name: Birdy Bounce
Our old game "Doodle Tower" has been removed from the marketplace because of the similarity of its name to the name of another app, but we did not give up and started working on a successor. We were very careful in the development process to avoid any further inconveniences and are proud to finally be able to present you our new game Birdy Bounce for Windows Phone 7. The game is available for FREE, we want that everyone who previously downloaded our old game can upgrade for free. However, it will not stay for free forever, so better hurry!
App Description:
In Birdy Bounce, you are steering a young bird on its way up to the horizon by using the accurate tilt controls of your Windows Phone 7 device. Be warned, the way is dangerous and many birds before you fell to their death. Only the fittest will survive this dangerous travel - how far can you get?
The gameplay experience provides a vast amount of different platform types you can use to jump higher and higher. There will be breakable, moving or thorny platforms and even some that give you a turbo boost and some that vanish before your eyes when you aren't fast enough.
The levels of Birdy Bounce are generated by an intelligent level randomization algorithm which provides a new experience every time you start playing while avoiding impossible situations to keep the fun for a long time.
We are planning to release continuous updates containing new platforms, effects or characters. We are always looking for new ways to improve the gameplay experience our game provides. Feel free to contact us to tell us your feedback and ideas, it is highly appreciated.

Hello!
I downloaded this game and...I LOVE IT!
It runs smooth, the gameplay is very funny and different from other games, it's beautiful...Well...Just give it a try!
Thanks a lot!!
and another real cool game
and ofcourse thanks for it being free
Ok the 4 days of the welcome back sale we configured are obviously over now. Microsoft just updated the price to 0,99€. Sorry that I posted in this forum that late, but most people read about it in other forums where we posted the news, so I think we reached a lot of people with this sale.
And I believe that 0,99€ isn't too much either for this app, the free offer was primarily for those who bought "Doodle Tower". We wanted that they can upgrade for free.
I wish all buyers as much fun as possible with the game. Make sure to write a review in the Zune marketplace if you like the app or if you have anything that you don't like. We are trying to read every single review.
I love your game...its very addicting!
love it
I love this game one of the only good game on WP7
Unfortunately, paid apps are not allowed under Rules 7 and 11 of XDA. You cannot advertise the sale of a paid app unless you are providing it for free to the community or at least provide a lite version. I will close this thread right now and if you can provide the community with any of the aforementioned options, please feel free to get in touch with me and I will be more than happy to unlock this thread for you.
Thanks for re-opening the thread. I added a note about the free version of the game in the first post. It's playable up to a score of 12-15k (depends on the current situation of the level generator) so make sure to check it out. There is no time limit, so you can theoretically play with the free version forever without paying a penny if you like to.
I wanted to buy this game when it was still called doodle tower but couldn't find it anymore. I noticed the name changed so I was able to pick it up for free. Nice game and smooth. Only little bug I noticed is that the game icon in the games hub is zoomed making it look ugly. Icon gets normal again when you pin it start, but in the games hub it is keeps zoomed in. I noticed this bug also with other free apps.
Has this something to do with my phone (hd7)? Or is it app related
I really believe that's a general OS problem. Microsoft only says they want icons in 3 special resolutions. I provided all resolutions and the icon is still buggy in the games hub, I really don't know what I should change.
There are many developers complaining about this in the dev forums, but Microsoft doesn't provide an official answer.
Good to hear that you like it. I would love to see a review in the marketplace if you'd like to =)
Hey the detail suggest its free, while it asking for 99 cents.
Really fun, happily paid for it.
Would be cool if you could add in some more platform types.

The detail says it's free for a limited time. This introductory sale is over now. I already sent in an update to change the description, but I have to wait for Microsoft to approve it.
Gotcha, takes a little while for it to update.
I did say it already but I love this game ( at 29K now )
the latest update is also cool , now we can see hour latest scores
but here is a suggestion :
it would be nice to have a auto save at some time (20k 30k 40k etz) .
Autosave doesn't seem appropriate for this game, though maybe support for saving the state when you exit could be cool, so you could pick up where you left off (since quitting isn't really the same as failing).
Great job, I will post a review in the market place!
LOVE this game. Favourite so far. LOVE IT.
Suggestions are, if you're looking for some are...
Up and Down moving platforms.
Mute button
Obstacles and shield power up
springs power up for multiple longer jumps but less than green boost
Naming highscores
Multiple highcores shown ingame as you pass them.
Bird to look like a bird than a peice of toast

and most important :
a hight score validation process , so we can show off hour hightscore
This game is crack...I love it! Now you just need to make friends with an illustrator to make it is as gorgeous as it is addictive.
Not a criticism per se, but if this game were as pretty as say, Angry Birds, you'd be rolling in the cash.
Ok guys this is huge. Here comes the first sneak peek into the upcoming huge graphical update for Birdy Bounce!
All screenshots are for demo purposes only! The real game might look different, the color fading from one color to another will be very smooth, I just had to pack it into some quick screenshots that you can see some of the color themes that await you! The screenshots are from the upcoming Mac OS X version of the game, there are things that will be different in the Windows Phone 7 version!
I don't want to talk much, it's time for some eye candy!
