Problem upgrading / downgrading HTC Dream - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I own a HTC Dream, Orange branded (I guess is Orange France).
It has Firmware version: 1.1 and Build number: 1.56.73.2 PLAT-1.0_gms-135348 CL#11526 release-keys.
My problem is that I can't update this over-the-air, as I use this in another country - and don't know if I can update this over wifi/3g.
So, I've tried to update this to 1.5 / 1.6 official, but it didn't work with the original img files from HTC's site. I've also tried to root/downgrade to RC7/... but failed due the fact that the signature wasn't good... and then use the goldcard method and hxd editor but now it says "main version is older" when trying to downgrade.
So I need to know how do I suppose to upgrade this to 1.5/1.6? It's a shame that I'm stuck on 1.1 and can't move to the latest official flavour or to modded roms.
Kind regards in advance,
Alex.

Damn bro sounds like u had a ruff time with the g1 man lol i got you tho. uhm im gonna set you wit cyanogen latest and from there you can flash any rom you like. but my main thing is to get you to 1.6 or 2.1 which ever you prefer. ( i think 2.1 smashes 1.6 personally )
ok download this rc7 file here ( download and extract the dreaimg.zip then copy the dreaimh.nbh file to your desktop somewhere )
then go here to my blog and finish the steps. these steps worked time after time for so many xda members with the same issue so youre good trust me. email me at: [email protected] for asap help

Hello, and thank you for your post... but -
I already tried downgrading this using both images US/EU and from multiple sources (from Cyn wiki, and a lot of other blogs) .
This is now working for me. It now states "Main version is older". Before I modified the hxd and the goldcard of the SDcard, I couldn't pass the Checking checksumms. It now pass that step, but I get stuck on "Main version is older"
Anyone has a better idea?
Thanks,
Alex.

Bump for me?
Please help.

Another bump for me.
Please help.

bump please.

NL G1 - Wierd unable to Root

Hiya guys,
I've got a NL G1 since 2 months but I really want to root my G1.
Here are the specs:
Model number: T-Mobile G1
Firmware Version: 1.5
Baseband Version: 65.505.20.17U_2.22.19.261
kernal version: 2.6.27-00393-g6607056 [email protected]#1
Build number: CRC1
I've gone over every possible way to Root a G1 but all fail.
If I want to downgrade my G1 to any RC 29/30/33/8/7.
None worked.
I've tried via various other ways, via update.zip (fond some way on the internet phandroid.com I believe)
I either get an not allowed message with the image (DREAIMG.nbh), or I get an error that the verfication fail while i try to do an update.zip.
If somebody can help me with this. I've flash countless PDA's, PSP's, MDA's but the G1 is not working for me.
Thanks in advance.

sounds like you have a continental European device correct?
If you do, you have a follow a separate guide that requires the use of a goldcard, its still rootable, you just need to do some searching. I won't baby you on how to find it since I've listed keywords that you could use to find it, but if you have problems within the guide, this is the place to ask and look first.
You might just want to search this forum first because another person had the same problem and it was solved, but if you can't search for those above terms in the developer's forum, i'm sure something'll turn up. ;P
yeah I indeed have a cointinantel G1,
And I don't want to use QMAT cause I need to pay, I've paid enough for the G1
Maybe, If its the only solution. A mate of mine got a rooted G1 I'll see him tonight to see if he can Root it for me.
I'll let you know how if he get;s it rooted
There's a Dutch guide here on how to root, I hope it helps
My mate tried yesterday every way execpt QMAT so its clear, so far it's the only way for Continantel G1
The dutch guide is ok. thnQ
But I'm going for QMAT with a WM device that's rooted my collegaue should be in any moment so I'll borrow his phone.
I'll post later on if it's rooted
I rooted my G1 with Help from all of XDA THNQ SO F*CKING MUCH
I used my terminal Emulater to get my CID (works perfect) then with the free Goldcard emailer i used HxH Hex Editor to edit my SD card.
Voila I could Image to RC7, got ROOT and Flashed it
i did had an issue when I put an a JFC ROM but then a did's dudes 1.3 r2 and is working like a chram.
The only thing I can't get to work is the auto rotate wich is possible after root.

Installed 1.6 manually, wrong one... How to get back(downgrade) to 1.5?

Hey everybody.. after a failed htc diamond (mda c4)
they exchanged it for a G1 today.. so happy me, on a 2 year contract but with a new phone every year
now... it came with 1.1 firmware (official) and searched the internet for 1.5 and 1.6.. so i installed both and now im on a official 1.6 unrooted.
But i think i installed the wrong one because i STILL dont have dutch language (1.1 had english and german and this 1.6 version has english and spanish)
My question now is how do i get back to 1.5 to get the 1.6 update from T-Mobile NL over the air?
--bump--
sorry for bumping the topic but can someone tell me how? dont really need the rooting, but can someone tell me how to get back to 1.5 or 1.1?
I tried to flash a nbh but it says 'not allow'
btw i have an dutch t-mo g1.. so its an eu device i think.. can't find the RC29 for eu anyone any idea? searched the forum but the only official thing i get is TheOfficial and it isnt even really official cause its rooted and cant use it
if you want to flash RC7 (which is what you should flash instead of RC29 as 29 is for us phones)
you need to use the goldcard method
search for the thread by Yuye in this forum
Whats good B-man.
Also you can root your phone (I know you said you didn't care to) and load a custom rom with more languages on it, so you don't have to stay on an outdated firmware. Also won't the 1 click method work on his phone B-man?
He said hes on 1.6US so no it wont. He wants 1.6 OTA for NL (i think its the same as the EU but not sure), and is looking for the 1.5NL version so he can get up to 1.6NL
i dont know if the EU 1.6 is out yet, i think there are still a few days left.
I think RC7 is your best bet. hopefully youll get the OTA for NL (you should, i dont think theres any reason it wont, but i dont know of the details in regional differences)
okay FINALLY i managed to get a goldcard after 5 hours of searching and reading how to (HxD hex editor did the trick, didnt want to vmware a linux install just for this)
So i downgraded it to an RC7, then i installed the 1.5us update (i think its us because it has the spanish language)
I hope that i can still recieve the 1.6 OTA update.. can anybody confirm if it's possible to get an EU/NL update even though i have an US android now?
And yes to answer the question if the 1.6 is out in holland, they're rolling it out as im typing (since a couple of days) but havent recieved a message. read somewhere that i should make a call then i'll get the update sooner. (to let the network know you have a g1 thats not updated yet)
its hard to get used to the android after having a WM device, but im getting there
If anyone could still provide me with/point me out to tho EU/NL 1.5 with dutch language i'd appreciate that, it would make things a little easier
Okay just got the 1.6 update and installed it. Can confirm that once u update to us 1.5 ur stuck on us.. still gettin spa and eng locale only.. so maybe ill root it during the weekend

Need a little more info here... what errors, at what point do you get said errors.
Here's what I've been able to dig up
You need to create a gold card with these Instructions to get access to bootloader. After that, you just need to flash RC 7 (using DREAM.nbh). You can follow the directions here.
Good luck.
MediaWiki internal error.
Exception caught inside exception handler
i can't view it.
How about this?

I have download the files for the radio 3.42.50 on the tread that you gave. I rename the .nbh in RUU_signed.nbh and put it on the Rom Update utility and start the update.
It gave me the right radio and I click on update. I load to 8 % and after gave me an error
Error 328 Invalid Command
I have to exit the update process and the phone reboot to the old Scoot CyanogenMod that is already install with the old radio. I think I miss something but can't find it.

The only other thing I can think of is to have the latest radio from Windows Mobile. When you were using windows mobile, did you ever flash a custom rom? If you did then that may have fixed your problem if you were using the latest radio version. If you weren't, then I guess if you want to fix your problem, you're gonna have to flash a windows mobile 6.5.x rom with the latest radio and then flash android.

When you were using it, what was your radio version? If it was the latest, then it should have been 3.42.50. I read that for "Bell" users like you, the radio 3.42.50 is recommended for this installation.

did you read the whole post that i had provided before??? there isasolution to yourproblem there.
Way 3 (I know I said two ways...): There are a few
stock roms that come with new radios. One of
them can be downloaded directly from HTC and it
is for the Sprint Touch. This one comes with Radio
3.42.30
The other one is for Bell Mobility and this one
comes with Radio 3.42.50.
Why am I giving "Way 3" if the other two options
seem much easier?? I have run into the problem
where my device would not let me flash other
radios than the one that I had. SD card method
did not work and the RUU started out fine but
quits at 8% rebooting my phone and displaying
Error 328 in the RUU on the PC. Anyway, here are
the links...

I've read the whole post but I don't understand the 3rd way. If I click on the Bell rom with radio 3.42.50 it bring me to the HTC site and there nothing to download.
I've try to download the All Above Radios zipped. It gave me 3 files in a zip. I rename the file 3.42.50 in RUU_signed.nbh and put it in the folder of the ROMUtilityUpdate. Maybe is there I do something wrong ...

[Q] an idiot newbie desperately in need of help

can anyone advise if there is a stable froyo rom on here in 'zip' format
that does not need any radio/hardspl/ or recovery tweaks beforehand ? (hopefully with GPS, BT, Wifi, Camera etc working)
I genuinely have sweated blood over the last 3 days trying my best.
I have read all the guides, tried using ADB, Fastboot, Terminal Emulators etc
and for various reasons have always managed to crash and burn.
I really was after Lazlo's Froyo, but could not even get the Radio and Hardspl he advised on to the phone !
in desperation. I tried it anyway, and was very close to bricking the phone.
(thankfully though the help on here got me out of being stuck in fastboot)
I failed, even with the guide below ... as it said no room on device !
http://www.webnetta.com/2009/01/02/t-mobile-g1-rc30-to-jfv13/
I plead for a simple zip that I can apply via clockwork as I can manage that method ok.
I have found loads of zip files here:
http://www.filecrop.com/android-2.2-froyo-G1.html
would any of these be of help
anyone ?
thanks in advance
First of all what is your current state on the G1? (IE: SPL, radio, etc...)
And do you really want the froyo ROM to be loaded on your G1 only, or any would do to get your G1 up and running?
thanks for the response ...
the phone is currently running ok on the original 1.6 rom, but I had managed an spl update on it.
fastboot shows:
Dream 110 PVT 32B
HSPL.95.3000 (was hboot 0.95.000)
CPLD -4
Radio 2.22.19.261
Oct 20 (28?) 2008
in settings:
Firmware version 1.6
Baseband version 62.505.20.17U_2.22.19.261
Kernal version
2.6.29-00479-g3c7df37
[email protected] #19
Build number
DRC92
I don't know if all this is original as the Lazlo rom seemed to go on via clockwork,
but then hung, and somehow I got back booting to 1.6
ideally I would like to get Froyo on it
Have you look at [ROM] Froyo 2.2.1 for T-Mobile G1 " Froyo for Trout! " F4T1.8.2 (01/19/2011). You will have to load the SPL and radio that is related to the ROM. And it's Froyo.
sadly that was the one I previously went for.
I did the sdcard ok, but could not get the radio & spl images flashed to phone with either adb or emulator whatever I tried.
usb drivers are on ok, I have the sdk, and despite showing up in windows device manager, and connecting fine when mounted,
adb will not connect to device.
if this Radio and the SPL were available in zip, rather than .img format I could succeed.
I have really browsed all the roms in the Rom Bible link, but cannot find one that does not require these type of fixes.
I was having the same problem with mine the other week. I could not use the img file so I had to mannually search for those zip files.
Afterward this is what I found. See if that helps.

the links unfortunately give me a 404 !
John Denver once sang
'Some days are Diamonds, some days are Stone'
with my luck lately I suspect I was born in a quarry !
@beandroidized
maybe it was a diamond quarry after all !
I got the filenames (radio-2_22_27_08-signed.zip & hboot0013d-signed.zip)
from those dead links, put them into google and got them both via Mediafire !
so thanks a lot there my friend,
I'll have a go at flashing both, and the Laslo rom, tomorrow afternoon and will let you know how I get on.

Kevin
Good for you. And you are welcome. Good luck.
